how to prevent data roaming? - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

how to prevent data roaming?
Is there a way to detect when im outside local area when using data, so it will stop automatically or show some kind of notice.
If accidentally using data while roaming for a while, it would be costly.

Systems settings > Wireless > Mobile Network Settings > Data Roaming

Try APNdroid, you will find it on the Android market.

Opera using 3G / EDGE?

I just signed up for a regular plan without the "data plan" meaning i dont get wireless internet. I plan on only using WiFi, but i just tried using opera, and typed in yahoo.com and it started to go to the site with wifi off.
How can i completely shut off internet except for wifi so i dont get charged!!!!
blahhh!
One way would be by going to Start / Settings / Connections (tab), press the Connections icon and then the link "Manage my existing connections" and ensure that no connections are set up. If there any just delete them.
A safer way would be to call your carrier and have them disable data on the account so it is their responsibility not yours. (had to do it for my son's phone)
Hi Here is an application
Hi Here is an application (cab) by installing it you can disable or able your GPRS/3G connection whenever you like.

[Q] Messaging center number change. how ?

Been using Raphael for nearly two years on vodafone, no problems. It was a contract phone. Unlocked out of the box, flashed spl and elite rc3 the next day. also no problems whatsoever.
Now, bought another phone and let my missus have Raph. All is good and well but for the life of me i cant figure out how to add a messaging center number, since the phone cannot SEND texts. Fine with receiving though.
Whats tried:
1. Settings > Personal > Phone > Services > VMail and Text Messages > Get settings.
Result - Reading from network and then network error, reading "Cannot read settings from the network. Try viewing settings later or disconnect data connection and try again." Data connection is on, but it can be more of the same - settings are wrong for data connection. Also tried to use my wifi as data - no dice.
2. Settings > Connections > Advanced Network > SMS Setvice > set to GSM (Originally "GSM Preferred").
Other sources indicate that its HERE that should be messahing center number filled in, but there are no fillable fields apart from pulldown to change "SMS Over", options are GSM, GSM Preferred, GPRS, GPRS Preferred. And thats it...
The card i try to run is O2 Pay-Go.
I'm out of ideas. Help...

[Q] Android System showing Data Sent&Received even when all data networks are off?

[Q] Android System showing Data Sent&Received even when all data networks are off?
I'm sorry, this topic has probably been brought up before, but Im just wondering since my data network connection is disabled even from my mobile operator it self. No 3G or GPRS are working, APN name has been fundled with, so therefore there is no way for my phone to be connected to the internet unless I use Wifi.
On the 2.3, the android system lists a whole list of system apps associated with it such as Crash Monitor, SemcHDMI control service, customized settings, diagnostic tool, download agent, account and sync setting, status bar, fmrx services, google backup transport etc and etc, and it shows that there are Data Sent and Data Received in which this number just increases out of no where. Now I'm probably paranoid by the word Data Sent and Received, because I doubled check with my mobile operator and it is assured that my data connections are all disconnected, from operator and from my phone as well.
So excatly where are these system apps sending these datas to? and where are these system apps receiving their datas from?
Wifi's not on, yet these numbers continue to increase. Not a whole lot, but it increases. Traffic Info application also shows no data usage from internet, but data usage from system apps.
Can anyone confirm this?

[Q] How to completely disable data

Good day,
I posted this question on the Verizon community forums but it hasn't been answered yet. Hoping for some help here. A little info about the phone:
Model: SCH-I535
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband Version: I535VRBLK3
Build: JRO03L.I535VRBLK3
Basically completely stock, no mods, no root, no nothing. Here's the question I posted:
Recently upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S3 from a Droid Incredible. On the Incredible it was pretty easy to turn off any kind of data while roaming. Simply shut off 'mobile network'. Done. I could still place and receive calls with absolutely no data usage.
After upgrading to the S3 I went on a trip to Canada. Here's what I did to disable data.
Open the notification bar and de-select 'Mobile Data'
Go to settings -> wireless and networks -> mobile networks -> global data roaming access -> Selected 'Deny data roaming access'
Note that the 'network mode' option the same page was set to 'Global' but given the other two options I thought this was enough.
When we landed I received notification that we in fact are using data on a roaming network, but given the options above I ignored it. Sure enough when my bill comes there are several lines of 'global data pay as you go' or something to that effect.
So the question... how do I completely turn off data on this phone? I'll be making several trips back to Canada in the near future and I don't want to be dinged for global data roaming every time. How many options does it take to turn it off???
Thanks,
-Howdy

I did that. In fact it's the first step in what I've already done to solve the issue:
Open the notification bar and de-select 'Mobile Data'
Go to settings -> wireless and networks -> mobile networks -> global data roaming access -> Selected 'Deny data roaming access'
Note that the 'network mode' option the same page was set to 'Global' but given the other two options I thought this was enough.
Yet I'm still charged...

Data roaming doesn't work

I have Mediapad X2 701 B003
The data roaming doesn't work. If I use data locally - everything works, but if I go abroad - then not. I spoke with my mobile provider - they said that my device is not supported for data roaming. If I use the same SIM on a different device - then data roaming works. This shows the problem is with my X2
If I go to Settings>More>Mobile network:
..I can't get inside that menu, nothing happens when I click on it
..my mobile operator symbol disappears for a second, and I get the following message in the notification area:
"Data roaming
You have lost data connectivity because you left your home network with data roaming turned off"
Is there any way to enable data roaming on this device?
Thank you for your help
