When i go to new sms and hit add contact, both sim-contacts and contacts are showing.
In contacts i have the settings-show contacts...
But ONLY when i go to new sms-add contact, both are showing...
It sucks, because then i have all doubled up in the list...
The only way is to delete all from sim...
Go to:
Contacts -> Menu -> View
Choose 'Contacts' or 'Sim' or 'All'. You have them doubled because it's on 'All' by default.
i had the same "problem" when i add contact in a new sms even when changing the option that coldmachineUK told, to Contacts only.
but solved my problem with an .exe that is somewhere in this forum
is easy to use
-copy .exe to sd card or some location on ppc
-run .exe and it hides SIM contacts...run again and it shows SIM contacts
easy..

I just came from the Tilt and on the Tilt you can store SIM contacts and not show on your regular contacts.
On my Fuze, it shows both...how do I hide the SIM contacts so it doesnt show on the main contact folder?
I'm also interested if there is a way to do this.

Use the software name "Diamond Tweak"... there is an option for this
If you don't want to install the program, try this
Hide SIM Contacts: HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone - create a new DWORD value named "ShowSim" and set it to 0
THANK YOU!
If you download the Advanced Configuration tool theres a drop down menu for this option as well.
there is also a cab, search nikisimfix
Don't ask to be spoonfed.
That could have been answered with a simple search.
Alright so here's my problem. I have searched for contacts and for favorites and found nothing useful.
My contacts works first of all. I go to "all people" and all my contacts show up just fine.
The problem is when I try to add a favorite, I have no contacts to select from. Its like they disappeared or something. You smart people have any ideas why this is happening. All contacts are saved to my sim card. I am coming from a Samsung C417.
On that note would it be possible to have all my contacts show up instead of a favorites tab?

Have you tried copying your contacts off the sim and onto the phone first?
Hi there,
After finally getting the Android Stock Contacts app on my Desire, I'm finally able to use the "Sync Group" option to only show one group (let's call it "cormie) in the phone book. This is all fine, I have ticked off all other groups and only "cormie" is ticked on. It displays the "cormie" contacts and the contacts on the SIM (I can delete them off it later I guess) but the main objective is to just use the "cormie" contacts and nothing else.
However, when I go to add a new contact and save it, when I sync it to Gmail, the new entry doesn't show up in "cormie" but only in "all contacts" and once the contact is saved on the phone, it doesn't appear in the phone book because I'm only showing "cormie" contacts and it's not there To see the entry I have to go back in and to show all contacts, then I see it.
This puts a great hindrance on the purpose of the Sync Group option. The guy in post 10 here seems to have got it going, but as you can see in my reply, post 11, it's not saving to the desired group for me!
I'd really appreciate if anyone has a solution for this and could explain how to get it working properly. Or is there an alternative contacts program that will do it? Also, if anyone knows how to not display SIM contacts in the phonebook please share too
Any feedback appreciated at all!
Brilliant! I think I got a workaround
When I first started using the phone after rooting it, I selected "contacts" to be the default for all the options and it actually turns out that the Sense "people" app allows you to save a contact to a group even though it doesn't allow you to "sync groups", choosing which groups you want to sync only, so I needed to get the "people" app to be the default for adding contacts.
What I had to do was go to the main menu > settings > applications > manage applications > scroll down to contacts > and press "clear defaults"
This clears "contacts" as being the default for all the phonebook related actions. If you go back to the home screen and click "phone" you can set "contacts" as the default for this, but then when you go to add a new contact in contacts, it will ask what app you want to add a contact with, click set as default and click the "people" app. Now all "add to contact" actions will be carried out using "people" app, here you can select the group you wish to save it to and then it will show up perfectly in the "contacts" "contacts" menu and will be synched correctly to the chosen group on Gmail!
I think, after 18 days of buying it, I'm finally ready to put my normal sim card in the phone and start using it as a phone! Finally!
I realize this is WAY later than the original post, but have any of you found a solution to not being able to add a new contact to the group you want to add it to? I'm using an HTC Hero (cdma) that I Froyoed with aospmod 2.2.1, so I cannot use the htc "people" app - at least I read that. Sorting by groups is mucho importante to me and I find the default contacts app built into aospmod lacking in this area.
Thanks if you even reply to this!
All my contacts are based on Google Contacts since I have no idea how to sync this phone memory to Outlook 2007. Now I found out that you can't add individual ringtones along with other features if you are pulling them from google. I would like to know if there is a way to export them to the phone memory.
i did that by setting the view to only gmail contacts and then going to menu - more and then export to sd card, then changed view to phone only and then back to menu - more and then just imported them back, then long press edit and added custom ringtone. It did mess up a few of them i think just a few businesses that were imported from google maps and ended up as just phone numbers on the phone view but i just changed the links when i was done and then went back.
Thanks, thats what I figured out eventually. The only thing is also copies your sim card contacts so now i'm deleting the sim contacts one by one since I don't think there's a way where you can do a mass delete on it.
Hi everyone,
I've been searching for an app to do this but I haven't found one. I might write up one soon but I'm too busy, so today I found a relatively simple way to do it manually. Basically, this gets Facebook contact information, including email and phone numbers, of all your friends and copies them to your Gmail contacts. There are quite a few steps, but this is really something you have to do once. When this is all said and done, your Google contacts will have all the necessary information, and you don't have to worry about rejoining all the contacts if you lose the data (by flashing a new ROM, for instance).
Things this will not do:
1. Grab contact photos. There might be a way around that, but I'm not sure.
2. Link social media, like statuses and such. This is all STATIC information.
3. This only works on Galaxy S phones (I think). Other phones might be able to follow the same general procedure if they're able to import ALL facebook contact into the phonebook.
This assumes that all of your contacts on your phone are synced to your primary Gmail account.
So, here's the procedure.
1. Create a backup of your Google contacts, save them to your Desktop. You can do this by going to Gmail -> contacts -> Actions -> Export.
2. To be safe, you can export your phone's contacts as well, in case something goes wrong. To do this: Contact -> Menu -> Import/Export -> Export to SD.
3. Import ALL of your Facebook friends into your contacts. To do this: Menu-> Get friends -> Check all of them, then press Save. This part can take awhile, so be patient.
4. Export all of your contacts to your SD card again. Contacts -> Menu -> Import/Export -> Export to SD. This includes ALL your contacts, existing and facebook contacts, but the important part is that the Facebook contact information is included. The file will be named 0000x.vcf, where x is some number, and it should be located under /sdcard/external_sd.
5. Transfer that .vcf file to your computer. You'll need a file manager like Astro, and you can email the file to yourself.
6. In google contacts, create a group called "Original Contacts", and add all of your current contacts to that group.
7. Also, create another group called "Facebook" (or whatever).
8. In google contacts, import your .vcf file, which was exported from your phone. To import: Contacts -> Actions -> Import. Check the option "Add all contacts to this group:" and pick the group "Facebook".
9. When that's done, go to "My Contacts" -> Actions -> Find and merge duplicates. Check to be sure that the right contacts are being merged, then press OK. All of your existing contacts that have associated Facebook information will be merged.
10. Go to your "Original" contacts group, and remove the "Facebook" contact label from all of them.
11. Go to the "Facebook" group, select all of them contacts, and delete them.
12. Ta da!!! All of your original contacts now have Facebook information right in Google contacts, and data portability is no longer an issue! All the contacts you didn't care about are also gone as well!
13. This step is optional. By doing this, you might find that you'll get contacts that have duplicate entries for phone numbers. To fix this, you can export the "Original" contacts group as a CSV file, open it up in Excel, and quickly remove all the duplicate phone number entries. This is actually a very quick process - it took me about 2 minutes. Save that file, then go into Google and delete ALL of your contacts. Then, import that CSV file you just edited. Now, you have all of your contacts but all the duplicate data entries have been removed.
14. Clean up: you can delete the Facebook group and the 'Original' contact group, as those were just to keep things organized.
Photos are probably not preserved. They weren't for me - other people might have different results based on whether they perform the optional step or not.
I hope this helps everyone!
