OK so if I posted something that is on here I'm gonna be pissed cause I've been looking for hours!!! So the bottom line is that I bypassed the bloatware on my fuze. It sure as heck helps but there are certain programms/apps that I want to download back on such as x-press mail, opera, etc..... Does anyone have a link, list, or any helpfull hints as to sort out what means what in the windows folder of the device? I'm no programmer but have a very good concept of how to install them and that stuff but I can't for the life of me figure out what all that stuff means!!! I really appreceiate any help from anyone. I think what you guys do here is absolutely amazing. If I double posted I am very sorry and will can this thread ASAP if that is the case. Cheers!
I'm not amazing, lol, but download total commander and open \windows. Order everything by file extension, and scroll down to the cab files. Install ms. pacman. Then say "screw it," and flash energy rom.
Thank you for the reply. I would prefer to keep the stock ROM at this point. You know if there is anything or anyone that would have a list of the files in the windows folder and what they mean? God I hope I'm making sense....
*Double Post*
Just organize \windows by file extension (either with Total Commander or Active Sync) and look at all the cabs. There may be a few you want to install, like manila. There will be many that are total crap, like the games. You may want to look up a cab for a stock HTC manila. It won't have all of the ATT crap on it and will be more pleasant to use. If you don't know what a cab does, copy it to your desktop and analyze it with Wince Cab Analyzer (search for MSCEInf.exe). Or, if you have sk tools, use the CAB manager to look into the cabs and figure out what they are.
http://filext.com/
this site tell you what the various extentions mean
it's not just for pc's and in many cases pc extentions
and pda extentions mean the same thing like
.txt and .jpg dll exe ....
Ok Great! I get the whole Cab thing and stuff I just needed to know what it meant. You know how these things are.... you load em up with some stuff and sometimes it doesn't work the way it was intended. So my plan is to hard reset to clear everything then start all over. Done it before but there are certain things you want and need loaded. TF3D, Manilla, Microsoft security, opera ( Cough, if you want it) etc....... Once again, you all have been a great help. I appreceiate the lack of criticisim for me being a new guy compared to most of ya. Not often you can find good help without catchin flak for it. If you have any suggestions for a guy like me that helps improve the performance/ability of my fuze that would be awesome. Thanks again!!!

"why spend time learning when ignorance is instantanious?"
It defeats the object of having them in the ROM
as soon as you use initflashfiles to move a file it takes up room in the storage memory. make the lnk's link to the /windows/ dir instead

If you just cut straight to the last paragraph in the post above , he is right.
You are best trying to keep everything in \windows to prevent duplication of files as it copies rather than moves them over.
My fault i should have been more clear
I cant use the EXT-ROM as this program requires user input, so forget that idea.
now i have gotten the program to sit inside the \windows\ folder correctly but now i need 1 last step, i need to have a folder w/files inside transfered as well. Its a theme folder!
Example OEM folder:
program.exe
\Themes\
It copies the program and i use initflashfiles.txt to make a menu shortcut works fine ,but when building the ROM it freezes on the Theme folder. Ok so you cant have a folders w/subdir and files.
Now what should i do? i made OEM folder have all files inside but i need the themes folder to be XFER'd to \Windows\Themes\
or is there a solid command or a config file i can write to make adjustments to create/copy/move files and folders?

you know i have seen you react like this a few times on the forum, stop being so damn annoying to everyone here, really STOP. i asked a question and revised it as it was written bad, but EVEN as that you should learn how to talk to people.
do you have anything positive to bring to this thread ? if not just move along!
Easy guys, easy.... tempers often fray, it's not worth taking things personally

With my wisbar advance, i've got the theme on my sd card and I put the config.ini file with the settings in the oem. Hence WA in \windows, theme on sd card.
You cannot move things from rom to another directory, only copy them.

erm, i awnsered your question if you read my post, dumbass.
no really i saw it...
i am just telling you i don't care for you attitude that you dish out and to others as well. you could try being nicer...
ever do a search on your post and read how arrogant you are? you should try it. If thats your example of helping someone... you need to rethink things.
To be honest i was hoping someone of your caliber would come here and offer help, but that doesn't mean you get to talk to people as you like because you ..." Know More "
Its expected that you know more when we post "[Help]" in the title. That's correct we EXPECT someone with more knowledge to help, not abuse people.
Thanks.... NO really thanks for the help
I think grayme or MIDGET are more than nice, because it looks like U've never been working on ROM at first, at second YOU DIDNT use search button(that fuc.. button 9th on top) Im not a god like midged or helmi, but at least before u post something like this, try to read. Why mess this forum

I did search for the how to copy a folder w/files using the initflashfiles.txt as was not able to find any information, hence the post.
Helmi has nothing to do with this so don't throw his name around. And midget has run to this issue with a few users on this forum lately. Yea i read those too.
And i don't care if he can breathe underwater, fact is just because you answer somebody doesnt mean you get to talk to people like trash.

gotcha ya, i was hoping for a way around this as the only other issue i have is a *.rgu file which set a string in the CURRENT_USER area but for some reason it fails to build on that specific RGU which is the registration for wisbar.
besides that everything is working smooth
here is a preview of the default look which i helped a great skinning artist (Dingo) make into a great wisbar skin, the new version has sounds that are awesome
here is a preview,
Just FYI, MOST of my posts are helpful and 'nice'
I dont have to be here answering your q's so im sorry, but you have to expect an answer that reflects the mood im in atm... if you dont like it i wont answer your q's next time. it's nothing personal!
try 2 read 1st helmi kitchen wm6 post, there is explained ho 2 use initflashes if U use his kitchen if U use another try 2 read apropriate howtos. BTW dont use initflashes.dat if u can bypas it(it makes a copy from ROM to Storage - so there are files ocupiing both space in ROM and in Storage - redundant) btw there is package for wisbar for helmis kitchen

This is the point that, until I made a kitchen ROM, I wasn't aware of; did I (and 1wayjonny and others) miss it?
Ranting and raving at people that don't know what you do is not moving things forward, this isn't a simple, 'how I instal ROM?' (sic) question...
I was not sure where to post this. I was going to put it in the Development and hacking but since i am not a programmer nor do i know anything about writing apps so i figured i would post it here. I've tried searching for one of these but have come up empty. What i am looking for is a file/folder explorer that is more finger friendly because i find it hard to use the built in windows explorer or total commander with my fingers(and i'm sure i'm not the only one) and i hate having to reach for the stylus just to browse for files.(call me picky) it would be nice to see a finger friendly that would have the functionality of total commander or rosco explorer(being able to brows/edit reg). I'm not sure if anyone has any interest in developing this but i think it would be enjoyed by everyone. I had thought of making the background for it using Mortscript, but i'm new to using this and am not really sure how well it would work, and then have someone make a graphic interface to go on top of it.(probably not really possible) anyways i would like to hear feedback and maybe input from developers if any find this idea worth working on.
Thank you for your time.

File explorer
Have you looked at things like GS Finder or Resco explorer?
I know there not exactly 100% finger friendly, but if you change the settings so that the icons appear larger, and combined with finger scrolling this saves the need to get out the stylus.
Works for basic file operation, let me know what you think.
um i think its called TouchFlo, but it may be called something else now...but it will give you sliding of your files and all other apps including your contacts. and nothing will be changed, its your default file explorer, but you can scroll through the lists. it works pretty well, so check it out!
this is what I had in mind. When you get your phone/pda, say Mogul, out of the box, click Start -> Programs. The program icons are arranged in a dialpad formation. Well, I changed to quickmenu and everything is put in a list, which is alright, not a major boo-hoo, but for some folders I do like the "dialpad" kinda of presentation. I've not been able to figure out if quickmenu can be changed. Uh, also, well, the programs you list put things in lists also. OH, yeah, the other thing, shoot I forgot again... oh yeah, the ability to change the order of the filename/icon. It only allows alphabetical listings. I would like the custom arrange the files, particularly on the Start menu. Like the original poster, I am not sure how to search for it exactly, but fortunately came across this thread.
Finger Friendly File Explorer: Total Commander
Howdy all,
Start using Total Commander (freeware data manager (and more)) and make the following settings in the menu; Show - Large Icons
Done, have fun!

Firstly apologies for the noob question, I'm still very new to this WinMo stuff. And secondly I've searched about the forum all day but still having problems....
I've just got an HD2 and wanting to put some of the tweaks on it I've found via this site. When downloaded on my PC I'm faced with 4 or so files, two or three perhaps starting with a 'cab' file name and the other a reg or set up file. Basically what do I then do with these files? With the phone conected via USB I went into the deice memory and dropped all the files into the memory, did a soft reset, but nothing happened, no extra feature etc. Phone just started up as normal. Sorry for my 'thickness' lol. Would welcome any advice or a pointer to somewhere where it may be already written.
Thanks.
Do not unzip the .cab place on phone and browse phone with File Explorer, click on the .cab and install to Device....
It's a common noob mistake as .cab's are compressed archives so look like .zips on computer....
Thanks for the quick reply, I'll give that a go....
after dropping them on the device you have to run them. Open File Explorer and just launch them from there. A setup will be launched usually.
Thanks for the above advice, worked a treat.
Well I've had no problem putting cab files onto my HD2, however now I want to remove a few of them. Not sure how to remove the actual thing that I've changed??? I go into the device memory and I can delete the cab itself but the 'change' still remains, such as new task bar icons etc.
Any help appreciated....
settings -> add remove programs
just like on a computer
Oh yes of course, makes sense now. Many thanks
I've used CFC GUI and Photoshop to extract a picture from <numun>'s bullseye set (I changed the photo in the middle of the big Contacts icon to one of my wife!)
But now, how do I put it back into a cab to install to my phone? I've looked at QuickCab 2.0, but unless I'm being dense I can't see how I can use it to create a cab - the only options seem to involve copying direct to my phone and I want to make a cab on my PC.
I'd suggest asking for help on the QuickCab thread. There's a LOT of people that use that, so I doubt very much that you can't actually make cab files with it! lol
If you can't find it again, just look in my bookmarks in my signature
Hi All,
I need a little help in understanding something, either by explaination, or by directing me toa webpage, but everything I found really doesnt explain it.
I used 3 tools to extract a HTC ROM Leo, I used: NBHExtract, IMGFS utility (NBSpilt etc.) then used Package-tool to create the folders OEM and SYS, and now I'm stuck.
What I want to know is how do i go about making a cab file of something so I can install it? for example like the Messaging App. In the OEM folder it has two folders, one says for ex: HTCMessaging, the other says the same thing with .0409 on the end.
How would I go about being able to cab the messaging system files, registry etc, and cab it?
Thanks a million for any help.
Anyone? Or did I post in the wrong forum?
<Bump> sorry but I am still searching, I have been reading and reading for the last 12 hours and nothing is pointing me to a solution, let me clarify one thing. I am not wanting to know how to make a cab file, I know how to do that.
What I am trying to find out is how does one go about sorting in the example the HTC Messaging App and all the files needed to be installed into a cab, obviously 2 folders doesnt complete it, I know that possibly contacts, and appointments apps have to be put into the cab, but How would I go about finding out all the files needed to the appointment app, all the files needed for the contact app, and all the files needed for the Messaging App, so I could cab them individually and install them to test on a spare TP2 phone, I am not trying to flash it. I want to cab it so if it doesnt work or is unstable, I can uninstall it from the remove programs.
Anyone? I even tried New Visual Kitchen, but it crashes during the building of packages after the extraction process of the ROM.
