i have my HTC 8125 mobile with WM5 OS.
i didnt unlock my CID yet but I will unlock it later right after if someone answers my important question that always twinkling in my mind.
Upgrading roms for WM5 to WM6 is just like installing a application? ( sorry coz this is my first time to do this.)
currently downloading Xplore1.1 and farias rom. is it alrady overclocked when i installed one of those? do i need to overclock my mobile?
thanks alot!
I would stick with Xlpore's Rom, since you didn't mention that you had a 4g or 3g, since it will work great on both. Just extract those files and run it, simple as that. If i were you i would read up a little on the whole process. nothing like having a $200 brick cause you didn't know what you were doin

Dude, you have a LOT of reading to do before I'd suggest you even start to do this (based on that question alone). No, its not like installing an application. You are installing an entire new OS (Installing, not Upgrading). So when you do this, its going to wipe out everything on your phone (not your SD card, but on your phone's internal memory).
I'd highly advise you to read and understand whats in the Wiki for the wizard. Then read and understand the stickies at the top of this forum and the ones at the top of the Wizard Upgrading forum.
For the sake of your phone, make sure you understand this stuff. Don't just run an executable because it sounds cool. I'm not trying to scare you off or anything, I just want you to understand what you are looking at doing and understand that flashing custom roms isn't the fix to everything.
Understand also that these custom roms are (for the most part) test things. There are bugs, there are quirks, and there are things that flat don't work. Sure, for the most part they give you more power, and a better functioning phone, but for some of the roms that requires tweaking to get it to that point, so you need to understand what is involved (people here will assist, but we won't spoon feed).
Here's an excellent post with TONS of pointers to information (yeah its buried in the XPLore thread. We need to pull this out into the Wiki or make a sticky with this):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1206964&postcount=894
Read and learn before you start flashing. You will save yourself a lot of grief, and may even save the life of your phone.

You definately need to read the Wiki before you do anything. It gives you step by step instruction and will most definately make flashing your device easier. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to PM me. Good luck.

I've been using various Cyanogen and Hero ROMs since June and have now reverted back to the stock Vodafone UK ROM. In general the stock stuff is fine, it's quick and bluetooth audio works for phone and media. I need root access though to use Bluex for bluetooth file send/receive and pushing the HTC_IME keyboard
What I'd like to know is does anyone know how to root the new Donut release?
I've tried the Haykuro's rootmesigned but get a FC and constant reboot...it was worth a try
there is already a full solution for you.

I used it on mine and works perfectly, no flaws. Install that and you are done.
yeah there is a way. but im not going to answer because this is in the wrong section. read the stickies up top, search around, then post in the right section and maybe you will get more answers.

Aw gee thanks...NOT
If you don't have anything contructive to add then don't.
I spent hours searching and read through countless threads. For your info I have been installing ROMS since they came out in May (before the Wiki was in place), have contributed and would you believe it I have even been thanked for my help, I am comfortable with using ADB, Fastboot etc, am familiar with linux and have read the stickies.
Is asking about a rooted ROM not developement? Have YOU read the stickies because from what I have read, surprise surprise, in this section there is a sticky up above here about hacking and rooting. As far as I'm aware any developement focused questions would be posted in the developement section not general.
If I'm wrong them I'm quite happy to follow the MODS rules and their directions.
Are you going to repeat your post with questions about OTA updates being in the wrong section too?
P.S. the very helpful 'htcmagic' had already spoiled it for you
@BigRD: no problem mate, glad i could help. I installed the rom above and i am extremely happy with it. I have also installed busybox on it too.
Its much faster that vodafones original.
Hey mate, try Amon_Ra's Donut Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
Very fast and stable with Root and others. I'm using it on my vodafone magic. Works really nice.
Or alternatively just go back to Cyanogen. Its Donut and it has more features than any other rom on this site so...its all up to you
@widezu69 & @htcmagic Cool, thanks guys.
I spent a lot of time with Cyanogen's ROMs up until the Google thing happened and was running eViL's Hero ROMs up to v3.0. I wanted to get back to a smoothish stock ROM issued by my network supplier but rooted by one of the great developers on XDA. I keep finding that other than the Vodafone original and the Google ION ROM bluetooth audio for phone and multi media working at the same time is very hit or miss. Am going to give both versions posted here a try over the next few days
Another one who wants a Rooted Vodafone Donut
I am also searching for a method to root a stock Vodafone Magic 32B that has had an OTA Donut update.
The answers on the thread so far involve flashing a new Donut Rom - my issue is that I have Donut already, and have never rooted - I am assuming the Root instructions included in the Wiki and Relentless Rooter are only aimed at Cupcake.....or am I wrong?
Any help/advice appreciated....
rooting the magic 1.6
Hi folks, dito as above. I've been up half the night trying to work this out. Have recently bought an htc magic from vodafone, and been 'updated' to doughnut 1.6. Not bad, but I'm really keen to get root on this, and eventually install the latest rom from cyanogen...
Seems there are now a few issues for people like me wanting to root their handsets... so far I've managed to erase my user settings, but keep getting errors trying to flash a rom. Followed the link above to nk02's thread, and no luck. Same issue, update aborts. There must be an easier way...
nk02 says his ROM works with 'wipe + flash'. How the heck do I do that? Seems this latest update to 1.6 has made all the other methods of gaining root obsolete... I'm far from a linux novice, and would love some advice here. And please don't tell me to keep searching, solid help would be appreciated. Cheers.
Hello All,
I confess i am a noob and proud too. lol
I am looking to flash my first device (Touch HD) aka Blackstone.
I have been looking around the formum and researching bits and bats but not found the answer to one question.
If i flash a new rom on to my device, am i correct in assuming the old Rom will be overwritten? therefore preventing a hard reset should i stuff things up?
If so, is there an app for creating/backing up my original Rom/Device Image?
Please no sarcastic, ****ty comments. If i have missed a thread with this information on then i apologies and could you just pass the link to the thread as my search criteria, didn't bring anything up.
Thanks in advance.
MBP
1) yes hardreset will just bring you back to the default state of the rom you flashed
2) http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone how you flash how you backup and more
Hello all,
Just got my HTC Desire a couple of weeks ago, so I am a newbie in the Android world.
I understand there is a massive collection of threads regarding this, which is the reason I am posting a new one here as I am totally confused - I've read so many threads and articles on what and how to do it and got myself confused.
What I want to do is, back up the whole device as it is right now (factory state) so in case something goes wrong I will be able to restore everything back to normal in order to continue fearlessly trying out some custom ROMs.
If you guys could reply with some up to date links on what is the best way to do this and how to would be great.
Sorry for my question being similar to others but I need some clear steps I don't want to mess with the device blindfolded.
Thank you in advance.
Hello guys!
I have installed Cyanogenmod 3.7.0 (android 2.3.7 version). It's MALGDR installed.
I want back to stock, but I'm not sure how.
I have downloaded the ROM from local HTC-site.
The rom is put on SD-card, so should I erase everything on SD card and make a partiinion FAT32 or can I do this AFTER I have installed WinMO 6.5?
Or could this occur some corrupt data or something during installl? Any help is highly appreciated.
Also, when I will start installing. Should I use the method on using VOLUME DOWN + POWER ON button, to get into that tri-colour screen and then plug in USB, wait for it to connect and then just drive from computer?
When I run the ROM from the computer it is like random rom install. It has to detect the device etc.. for it to install. This will not be any problem?
Thanks alot guys. I really hope someone with education around this will help me out.
Please any help!!
would like to give it a bump, so perhaps someone can help me.

I'd be very surprised if you were the 1st person to want to go from a Magldr booting ROM back to WM, so the answers you need are probably already there. I pointed you there purely because you'd be surprised how many people don't know their devices have specific forums.
Edit: Here you go. A quick google search found this...

Wow, that was a real nice thread. But I'm wondering about if I install without deleting partitions on SD card, and just run the ROM-file that I downloaded from HTC.
Can I do this? I'm really not sure how to exceed this prodedure, since I want radio and HSPL being all original.
Thanks for the thread though, mate. Hope you can help me out perhaps here!
