what do this processes?
timewizard.exe
bluetoothmanager.exe
datakeeper.exe
siplistener.exe
alarmwatcher.exe
can i disable this processes without problems?
there are many others in background
These aren't all Default WM Processes.
Easier would be to say:
Does my phone break when i disable them?
All of these except timewizard look to be canditates to kill for regular PHone use.
without alarmwatcher, the alarm don't work?

It's not a default start up service, so it was placed by an app that i don't know or use to check the windows Alarms or something like that.
do you use 6.1? what do you keep in startup?
timewizard is necessary?
Timewizard can be kicked.
It's part of the DRM package so it should'nt be a hassle.
It't weird that this tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=262476
Only has just over a thousand downloads.
You can disable and re enable start up processes on the go.
This way you can find what works and doesn't and go back to original situation.
And yes i run 6.1 i prefer it over 6.5 at the moment.

When I used a blackberry, it had an "auto-turnoff" function that would turn off the device from say 2am to 7am.
Is there a way to do this for windows mobile? CT scheduler looks promising but is for smartphones only.
Are there slick ways to already do this?
I know about setting an appointment and using an automatic profile, but I would prefer something less... dependent on my remembering to set my profile before I got to bed.
Thanks in advance for any help!
try this
it does what u wish.
Thanks! I have it loaded and will try it out. Few questions:
Does it need to remain in memory or can I close it?
Does it work with CDMA phones?
I will probably figure them out sooner or later.

When I tried this app on my QTek 8500 (StrTrk) running WM6.1 Clean, it produced an error relating to Forms. Maybe it wasn't meant for WM6 or something. Does anyone know of a different, preferrablly free, program that I can use to set my phone to switch on/off the "phone" feature at certain times?
SPB Mobile Phone. It has it's own profile settings. You can choose to run it automatically on any specific time. It is not free though but very useful. It has a today plug-in with all the necessary icons to control the system.
Hi Guys
Is there a way to disable Google Voice in Nexus One in non-Rooted devices? Google results are not useful.
I don't want this application to run in the background. It restarts even if you kill it.
read up on how android handles memory allocation.
maybe you can help me and show me where to read?

Here you go. Highlights are at the bottom of my post and of the article.
http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
*Android is hard coded to automatically kill a task when more memory is needed.
*Android is hard coded to automatically kill a task when it’s done doing what it needs to do.
*Android is hard coded to automatically kill a task when you haven’t returned to it in a long time.
*Most services (while possibly running in the background) use very little memory when not actively doing something.
*A content provider is only doing something when there is a notification for it to give. Otherwise it uses very little memory.
*Killing a process when it isn’t ready only causes it to have to reload itself and start from scratch when it’s needed again.
*Because a task is likely running in the background for a reason, killing it will only cause it to re-spawn as soon as the activity that was using it looks for it again. And it will just have to start over again.
*Killing certain processes can have undesirable side effects. Not receiving text messages, alarms not going off, and force closes just to name a few.
*The only true way to prevent something from running at all on your phone would be to uninstall the .apk.
*Most applications will exit themselves if you get out of it by hitting “back” until it closes rather than hitting the “home” button. But even with hitting home, Android will eventually kill it once it’s been in the background for a while.
Thanks for the reply.
Most of those highlights are not valid for me or for any nexus one users because:
a lot of unused application cause a big amount of RAM which is resulting with a lag/slower N1
Some applications will never be used by some users, for example Amazon MP3, or Google voice (for me)
So, coming to my initial question, is there a way to disable Google Voice?
I guess the simplest way is modacos kitchen. There is a option (?) to remove google voice.
And i agree that removing unneeded apps will improve performance.
any other ideas?
I have just deleted the apk from /system/app
;-)
when i go to /system/app and try to delete amazon MP3 it gives me an error...
i do see that it is -r- (i assume that means read only) is there a way to override that?
Either root and delete the .apk via adb, or you're out of luck.

Exactly. This forum isn't really the place for anyone who doesn't have or want root. Pretty much everything we do here requires root access.

Agreed! Be rooted and do what mod you want to do...
Out of curiosity, with the Nexus, with GoogleVoice running how much free memory do you have? As Cy would say, "free memory is wasted memory." Why kill the app if it's not draining the memory that's needed?
So Carloswithac, that means ("taskiller", "advanced task killer", etc) are practically useless??
If so I'm uninstalling them From My Nexus.
Hi,
I wish to stop a WM6.1 device booting the OS and instead launch an application....
Is this possible and how?
Thanks.
Ping
Pong... bounce... etc
No One Knows
Cause no one knows....
Probably because you haven't been clear on what you want to do.
For instance, you need an OS running (ie WM6.1) in order to run an app.
Surely
I don't see how much clearer that post could be.....
Essentially the OS can load in the background but i dont want it to be accessible to the user...
Currently the closest i have got is to remove the start menu bar and launch an app straight away, but theres an intermediate load period involved in this.
If its not possible then just say, I heard it was possible through editing the registry.
Cheers.
New one on me! What app are you wanting to run, why would you not want access to the os?
Prevent OS
I can hide the OS if disabling is not possible...
The whole point is so that a user cannot access the handhelds OS, only the application.
applications are not running in the background
it stops when the screen locks
when it opens again it reloads and shows resuming
is there any way to run the application even when it is locked
Apps have to be recompiled for mango before they can use the benefits of mango. The market place will begin accepting such apps later this month. Also not all apps will "run" in the background. They have to be specifically coded to do background tasks. However apps may benefit from fast resuming which at face level it might appear the app is running but really it was dehydrated.
dont think its possible with current apps
Yeah theres a video on wmpu that goes for about 20 minutes where a guy from the windows phone 7 team discusses multitasking in depth. He pretty much says the last 5 apps you have used will not need to "resume" but will jump straight back in. Background task using apps that will give you toasts, live tiles etc can run an agent for 30 seconds every 30 minutes so battery is not used up.
Something else thats very good is in the settings you can choose to disable specific agents that you dont want the app in question to use, and then the app cannot force it back on, so you wont get annoying toasts etc from apps you dont want.

I think its the 3rd video down

Apps need to be recompiled with the Mango dev tools and resubmitted to the Marketplace, but the Marketplace is not accepting Mango submissions yet, so there are no applications on the Marketplace that support Mango multitasking at the moment.
i got a feeling the multi tasking isnt the same in mango beta as in the final version.
ok, seems the official wp7's multitasking is a crap - if I need to get the real background execution (constant socket listener), I cannot do this even with dehydration hack
but can I perform such background processing in an unmanaged code, through interop service?
Is there a way to use wifi in background cuz he turns off with screen? Anyone know for some fixes? I use Mango. -.-

if you developer, use this code lines:
Microsoft.Phone.Shell.PhoneApplicationService.Current.UserIdleDetectionMode = IdleDetectionMode.Disabled; // disable screenlock
Microsoft.Phone.Shell.PhoneApplicationService.Current.ApplicationIdleDetectionMode = IdleDetectionMode.Disabled; // disable to diactivate application

its works only with Mango.
I hate the way that when you open a app and you exit out that its still running in the background and you are either forced to go into its options and close it or go into the task manger and force close it.
I want to know if there's a easier way to manage the apps so that when you close the program or leave to go to home desktop that it automatically closes, i hate the process that is currently inflicted and wish there was a quicker/easier method.
All help appreciated.

come on mate...
do you ever wonder why they turn back on? its called multitasking and android is pro at it... its not like ios and quits when u exit an app its actually shuffled to a lower process state and not using bugger all power... if the load gets high because another app is open; that previous app is then wiped thereby automatically providing the extra state...
\
if u really want a app; get autotask killer (you will notice many of them will turn back on its an android thing)
Android is managing them for you and it does so in a very efficient manner.
The best way to manage apps is to not load your phone up with tons of junk you don't use or need. Other than that, leave Andy alone.
P.
Aight so in terms of power and speed it shouldn't affect performance as its processed in a manner to reduce battery and process usage in order to function normally ??.
i agree with paul and josh on their posts
