Hey Fellow XDA-Members This issue has been bothering me for quite some time. Heres the background info you need:
My girlfriend lives in buffalo (where i go to school) but in the summer I work and live on Long Island. We dont get to see each other as often as i would like, so we keep in touch with a combination of phone calls and webcam (skype). Now, when i call her, or she calls me at night, and we are talking for at least 5min or so, every once and a while my speaker drops her voice. What I mean is, she can still hear me, and I can hear static (the same background noise thats there in the normal phone call (feedback?)) but I cannot hear her. So far the only thing that fixes this is a hang-up and re-dial. Now on some nights this only happens once, and other nights it happens every 2-5min or so. This is quite annoying and I am curious to see if anyone has any suggestions. I have tried Multiple Radios and their respective Rilphones. I have Tried talking to her on and off speakerphone. No Go. Whats stranger is this only happens at Night. When I speak to her during the day, I always hear her perfectly, and everyone else that calls me, I can hear fine.
Any Suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!
-Dave

Hey guys,
Hold your phones tight, hold your hands over the mic...! Next time someone calls you and you decide to let it ring, they might hear what's going on!
Tested and warranted. My girlfriend called me 3 days ago. Right before the phone rings, she can hear for about 5 seconds what is going on around thw phone. Thank god I'm the faithful and non-hypocrite type, or else there would be some major reaveals!
My phone is an 8125 with TNT.19199. Wierd thing! I even tested it and I can hear what's going on around the phone for those split seconds!
Anyone else has had this happening to them too? Do tell how this may come to be...

I've never heard of such a thing. Maybe a bad flash. Try hard resetting or flash a different ROM.

Can you explain in more detail?
Eg the beep-beep (calling sound) is still heard from the caller while the phone is ringing?
If the caller can hear things before the phone starts ringing maybe the phone is set at auto-answer (by bug/mistake).
At another of my posts I said that with bluetooth I answered the phone & while I was talking the phone kept ringing.
The difference with your post is that I answered the phone and it kept ringing and you didn't answer the phone and it acted like you had...
I have the same ROM TNT v2 and you got me a bit worried...
Has anyone else noticed, or had anyone tell them, that the background noise is extremely loud and distracting, when you are talking to them on your Raph?
Apparently my microphone/receiver is picking up everything and people are hearing even the slightest sounds.
I called my wife from the car with the music very low, and she said it sounded like I was at a concert. A buddy called me and with no music on in the car, he kept asking if I was driving with the window down, or standing in the middle of traffic... And then when I went into a Panera Bread, with only a few people talking around me, he had to let me go because he couldn't hear me over all the extra noise.
I was not on speaker phone.
Is there anyway to dial down the microphone/receiver, like you can on a computer?
I did search through the forums, but was unable to find anything.
Thanks for the help.
There is in the settings area a item for hearing aid and non hearing aid mode. Try to set it either way and see if it helps?
I'm having the same problem too - is there a registry setting for this? HKLM\Software\HTC\Audiogain is no longer there...
Chiming in with this...have had several people tell me it sounds like I'm on speaker or like someone else said above, driving with the windows down.
I've had this issue as well. I can't remember if I had this issue before I started using cooked ROMs.
What ROM is everyone using?
I'm on PROven 1.08, but I've noticed this with earlier versions of PROven as well.

Yep - just wanted to add that I'm having this problem too.
Almost every call I've made without a headset- someone has asked what was going on in the background.
Currently running Elite ROM
I mean, I know the mic is on the very bottom of the phone, but what's the deal?
Hello, guys.
i had this problem twice: just after i buy my Raphael and afer i take it to my service-center. There serious men just make hard reset and that's all!
the issue hide as i take my pda in hands.
but in several days it started again... i didn't know what to thing - cause i was very sad about this ****en problem.
nevertheless also after few days this problem hide away and never goe to my pda again.
I did'n do anything with my ROM (RUS 1.90.411.3, Radio:1.02.25.19)
...and it's very interesting.
if anybody has the answer to the question: "Why does it happen?" i'd be very glad to hear about this one.
sorry for my english)
hear myself
I have a simmilar backround noise problem, but for what ever reason the speaker kicks out what the mic picks up, so I end up hearing my self more than any one that calls unless it is dead silent in the room, then I can hear the caller as long as I am not talking.
any tips on how to stop hearing myself?
same here im using ROMeOS conFUZEd edition...
Just to add that the problem happens for me with the PROven 1.08 and LantisOS RC 1 ROMs.
I've modified AudioPara3.csv and turned the gain and tx volume way down. It seems to be ok for me, but I haven't done extensive testing yet. Please backup your copy before overwriting it. Copy to your \Windows directory using Total Commander. Let me know what you guys think.
Yeah a lot of people said they can hear everything when I talk to them. Both on my Raphael and my old Hermes. Its just the mics that HTC uses are really good. Maybe not good for phone usage but really good quality and can pick up all sounds.
I ended up getting a Bluetooth with Noise Reduction, everyone is much happier now.
Same here
I've been going crazy looking for a solution for this problem, I was in a restaurant the other day with very soft music and I got a call and the person on the other end said that it was SO loud she thought I was in a night club (I wish I was but I wasn't).
I'm gonna try the AudioPara3 and see what happens.
If anyone has found the perfect solution to this, please post it. Thanks.
Backgrounds too loud
Just installed and the problem seems to be corrected, will try a couple more days.....
I have this problem and have tried a couple of the posted audiopara files - no such luck with this issue?
Any progress on dialing in this microphone setting?
thanks!

Silly question, but did you reboot your phone after you copied the file?
Yup. I occasionally get people telling me I sound like I'm in the middle of the sea with waves and stuff. When I end the call then redial, the problem is usually gone. Happens maybe once a week. I'm a fairly heavy user - the phone that is. Well not just the phone. Erm, can we not go there thank you?
Raph Elite Project RC3. When I've tried audiopara, I lose almost all volume from the speaker so I uninstalled and hard resetted.
So, I've searched around quite a bit on this, and the only things I could find were on other devices, not even ones in the moto_msm8960 family, either.
As the title states, I'm getting what sounds like a feedback squeal in my ear when I make a call, or receive a call (doesn't matter which). This does not happen every single call, but it does happen most, almost all, of the time (>=95%). As of yet, I can't determine a pattern of any kind, such as people on a particular carrier, within a certain region or location, or even a time of day. When it does happen, however, the other party can hear static over the line, and it has nothing to do with signal (full bars or no, it's consistent with the squealing I hear). The sound decreases phenomenally when I put the phone on speakerphone, I have to put the phone almost right next to my ear to hear it...but the other parties can still hear the static pretty bad. One person told me it "sounds like [I'm] in the rain" it was so bad, and him living in Florida means he's not talking about a light sprinkle
To answer questions I've seen frequently on similar posts for other devices, and to give you an idea of what I've tried; it does not matter if wifi/GPS/bluetooth are activated. One post even mentioned pocket mode, but that did nothing with I toggled it. The sound does not occur when playing music through the speakers, only calls. On that note, I'm going to reiterate that it does not matter if I'm making or taking a call, the sound persists. I can move the phone away from my face during the call, but it doesn't decrease the sound.
UPDATE: When I make a recording, I can indeed hear the "rain" that the person mentioned above, making me think that it might be my mic.
If this is a hardware problem, I can easily replace the microphone. Spare parts are easy to find, and I'm tech savvy enough and even have the proper tools to replace the parts myself. However, if there's even the slightest chance that this is a software problem, I'd rather see what you guys think first.
Thanks for your time!
When I receive a call and slide the green phone symbol to answer, the caller never hears my first hello or two, only hears me after a few seconds go by.
At first I thought it was network related but it has happened in a few other places too including bluetooth in my car.
Any ideas where I can look for the problem?
Phone is unrooted.
Thanks.
Actually, now that I think of it... I believe I might have this issue as well. I can think of a handful of similar instances where this has happened, but it took this thread for my mind to connect the dots. Time to do some testing...
Yeap. Same here. I learned to be quiet for a few seconds. But then there are some like my brother who would get irritated that he doesn't hear me as soon as he picks up.
I really want to say this is an AT&T problem. I have been wondering the same thing. This also happens to me. But not just this phone. All my phones for the past two years. Including my n5. And if you search this problem in Google it's common on our network. And across many phones.
Hi People.
Every day more pissed off with the pixel, for the coverage issue and for something that is already being the straw that breaks the camel's back.
Now, every two or three days, if someone calls me or I call someone, in the first seconds of initiating the call or receiving it, some very unpleasant noises sound, like when you take a medicine out of the plastic.
It is a "Clack-Clack" that almost makes you want to remove your ear.
Then it goes away and if you try to reproduce the problem, you have to wait another two or three days. Very rare.
Does it happen to anyone else? Thanks in advance.
I remember having same issues (network and the noise) but so far after installing kirisakura kernel never had it. I'll keep on monitoring if they're still the case
I think the phone part could definitely be better. I have had several disconnects with a perfect 5G signal that I find to be suspicious.
