I'm not 100% sure that the phone's built in hardware can handle a stream of 320x240 video at any decent framerate. I think there used to be a camera software called cool camera or something that performed better than the default camera, though. Other than that, this is not a Herald ROM development question. Actually, it's not really a Herald question at all, as software isn't device specific for the most part. You'll probably have better luck searching through the main development forum as they post a lot of software there for all phones.

New to android.

This is (or will be come June) my first experience with an android set. Now I've read that the codec support in Sensation is quite poor but I'm wondering if that support could be extended to include e.g. .mkv playback now that Sensation will (hopefully) be unlocked.
first: welcome to the android world

Thanks! So the codec support depends on the media player like in PC OSs.
I'm also wondering if there's any possible "fix" for the quality of the photos taken with Sensation's camera. The photos I've seen aren't too bad but someone mentioned too high level of compression of the file which creates artifacts. Are there apps for the camera that will lower the compression level? The ones I've looked at on Android Market don't mention anything about compression. Or maybe it's a hardware limitation.
Welcome to android as well.
To be honest I am pretty new myself. The sensation when purchased, will be my first android smartphone. Had an Archos tablet for a few weeks before lending it to my sister 6 months ago lol...
Regarding the camera, I am not certain if we are talking about the same thing but they do seem similar. In the engadget review, they mentioned 'artifacts' where isolated areas of a picture were randomly soften or blurred. This is most likely due to software/settings that are processing the raw image before saving as pictures/files. With the recent HTC bootloader unlocking announcement, we should be able to see custom ROMs or even just single solution, fixes, tweaks, updates or whatever you want to call them to address issues like this. Or of course HTC can also fix the issue themselves.
Here is a link to the review if you need it

if you are looking for the camera portion scroll down until you see the picture of the daisy? (sorry know very little about flowers)

Screencast video capture

Haven't seen this mentioned here but having bought it wanted to recommend it.
It lets you capture what you see on your phone either to pictures or mpeg 4 video and I must admit to being impressed with it.
It needs root access but is the best screen capture video tool I have found and might be useful for people wanting to make app reviews or video tutorials as you can also record audio.
It managed a tough challenge of recording in high definition the sunset live wallpaper which has a lot of animation in it, and did so very well so hopefully this will help people who might be after a video capture tool

EDIT: Ooops forgot the market link. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ms.screencast

[Q] Is our camcorder app able to record PAL instead of NTSC?

Hi there,
I am not sure if this is a HTC Sensation only question or maybe a general Android issue. I tried the search here and at Google, but it looks like nobody did ever wrote a word about this?
I am looking for a PAL compatible camcorder mod or app to be able to record PAL standard compatible. That means I want to have a camcorder mode with 25p, 50i or 50p. Not as many frames as possible. Also not NTSC with 30 or 60 frames. Just PAL with 25 or 50 frames per second, maybe interlaced.
I am using PAL video editors at hobby and at job. I do like to use my FullHD camcorder and maybe my HDV also. So my video projects are PAL, thats the video standard here in Europe. I can't ever use my phones camcorder beause all pan and zoom will look very bad if imported into a 50i project. Thats because the camcorder in our phones seem not to be able to deliver PAL? The conversion while importing into my project is from 30p or 60p down or up to 50i or 25p. That must look bad after importing.
I know that our phones original camcorder soft goes down with the frames if the light is not enough, I also know that some modded camcorder apps seem to be able to record with stable 60p at FullHD. Maybe it is possible to reduce the frames with a modificated media profile or with a camcorder app?
Does anybody know if these phone camcorders are able to record with a stable rate of 25p, 50i or50p? I would like to use this feature of my phone really much..
Thanks for your answers, hints and help!

:fingers-crossed: Yes, thanks. Also Australia uses PAL standard. Only USA and Japan have NTSC I think..
Does anybody know camcorder apps that are able to do PAL? Please?
Nobody?
Hmm, since the forum rules says that I am not allowed to post my question anywhere else than here, maybe someone out here can post my question at a camcorder app threat? Maybe the specialists there are having an answer?

Which is the best Screen Recording app in your opinion?

I was thinking about purchasing the app called Rec. I like it, simple, and very smooth, but there's this app called SCR Screen Recorder, which is favoured by most, I tired that free version but whatever bitrate/FPS I choose I don't find the recorded videos as smooth as Rec! Am I the only one? Does SCR is favoured mostly because of its front facing cam recording or what?
I just want smooth recording, and for whatever reason I find Rec to be better, even when two videos are recorded at same frame rates I find the one recorded by Rec to be much smoother? Am I missing something?
SCR is currently priced at 3X than Rec (Rec is currently on sale), however that shouldn't matter if the app is really great and I am unable to see its true purpose.
Kindly vote for your preferred one and if possible please mention the reason too.
Cheers.

[Q] LgCamera App bad quality video on Samsung S4

Hey everyone, I have a stock Samsung S4 that I like recording concert videos on.
I had a real big issue with the audio. I might have that fixed with BootlegMic. I have also installed LgCamera in hopes of finding a fixed focus for my video. I found that this app did let me use an external mic that my stock app did not, but I cannot seem to get a decent quality video from it at all
I have tried changing video resolution, video encoder, video bitrates, and file formats. Every conceivable combination that's possible, (I realize any video res past 1920 X 1080 is not supported), but cannot get any video quality even close to the stock video app.
Is there anyone with experience with this problem that can help me get it sorted out?
Thx. Jerry.
This may be late
This may be a late reply, but just in case any one else happens upon this thread, it might be worth looking at Open Camera app. Lots of tweakable settings, fixed focus, exposure lock, external mic, etc.
BTW, I just put together a bootlegMIC and it is fantastic.
