Windows Mobile PPC + Zune Subscription Music - General Questions and Answers

Hey Folks,
I have a windows mobile touchscreen device (Omnia) and I am interested in getting my subscription Zune music to play on it. As most of you may know this music is DRM'd since I technically don't "own" the music and only get to play it as long as I pay my subscription fee.
Anyway, I found in an article that if I sync my Omnia via ActiveSync, it shows up in the "Sync" tab in Windows Media Player. From here I can drag albums over to my Omnia and they will play in Windows Mobile Media Player, s2p, etc.
Here is my problem: For some reason, a large portion of my Zune music has a little error next to it saying "No Sync Rights". There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason as to what I can and cannot sync. I believe the Zune pass allows the music to be synced to up to 3 devices. I only have one zune, so there is no reason I can't sync with my Zune and my Omnia. One thing I did notice, if I sync to my phone, then I do a hard reset, the music I had synced now has "no sync rights". It's like WMP doesn't know that data was removed.
My question is:
* How does WMP and the Zune software know what songs are and arn't on my Zune?
* Is there anyway to prove/reset my sync count so I can sync more of my music properly?
* Any other Zune+WinMo users out there have any success stories to share?
Thanks a lot!

"3 devices" means 3 Zunes.
Microsoft doesn't support syncronization outside of Zunes.
However, some users have said that their Zune Pass music works on their phone. Idk how, I have the same "problem" as you. Microsoft needs to integrate stuff better though.

WMP10 PLAYLISTS / SYNCING / BOOKMARKS AAARRGGHHHHHH!!!!!
 Sorry people but I'm F*%@!ng! fuming over this. The reason I like Winamp is becuase you hear something you like and all you do is "Add to Bookmarks", couldn't be simpler, and easy to copy and backup and replace, I wonder if Pocket Music is this simple? probably.
BUT WMP10 what a frikin knightmare!. I've tried the Windows Media Player 10 Mobile help sights, tried some of the SYNCING things, it did sync 29 things??? but still hasnt transfered My Playlists looking in the WMP Library on the XDA. SO in frustration I copy "My Playlists" from My Docs on my main PC to my PocketPC's Docs AND Storage Card to a folder called My Playlists, I Open WMP10 on the XDA, then using File Explorer in XDA to find the My Playlists then try to open them that way, oh no of course it isn't going to frikin work is it!! Playlists for WMP aren't associated with WMP10 eh!??? WTF!!! Why can't they make it simpler!!!??? AND I cant "FIND or SEARCH" the "My Playlist Folder" associated with WMP10 in my XDA, for the life of me someone please help me out.. sorry for the rant but I cant be the only one having this problem.
Welcome to M$ !!!
They way I use it:
- Check that all your music is in the WM10 library on your PC.
- You need to have all the playlists you want to sync in WM10 on your PC.
- WM10 (again the PC side) has a "sync" tab, which you need to use for synching to get your playlists to your PocketPC. Check the playlists you want to sync in the sync settings, hit "sync"
- You're done!
If you are using another music player and DON'T want to use WM10, you're out of luck....
Please excuse my noobness.

ok I just went to the Library and found My Playlists with the Radio Stations I like, clicked on Sync, found the folder on My pocketpc to send to, picked one and ticked it on the PC side, highlighted it, hit the green Start Sync button.. ERROR the player may not support the file... tryed a few more , same thing.. please excuse my noobness, I like to stream radio stations off the net, How do I "Add Bookmark" as it were into my own folder say My Playlists? I was able in version 9 but not 10 it seems. i'll keep trying, and thanks I'm getting closer.
Went into Sync settings
Went into Sync settings, ticked all the radio playlists, found My Playlists in My Documents on pocketpc & storagecard..
ERROR the player may not support the file...
tried a few more , same thing.. I made sure the player wasnt playing at the time, I have had no problem with active sync so far its the latest version, firewall is ok in program controls, and it's a very recent ROM, I have been able to stream 32kbps streams using a neighbors wifi connection but can't even manualy drag drop some playlists.
I feel your pain. I gave up on the sync thing with Windows Media player. It never worked right.
Been using Yahoo's music service and it works as advertised. Click sync and your done...no playlists though & it costs money. Still, good audio quality and its easy.
Thanks inbox7
Thanks inbox7, I am using www.radiofeeds.co.uk for UK radio listening links.
Also one work around (can't believe I just said that Microshaft!) I am saving the .asx links as Favourites. works anyway.
Slightly off topic, has anyone reading this managed to stream an MP3 stream using there XDA and a WIFI connection?, What is the maximum bitrate you achieved? I'll start a thread on this unless you can point me to one.
cheers all choppidge.
Im trying the WMP10 sync now.... 20% complete.... keeping my fingers crossed that itll work without a snitch... thanks!
Im done syncing two playlists.. took a while to complete but when I checked my universal, couldnt see the playlists there... What did i do wrong?
I synced WM10 to save the Playlists to the storage device but couldnt find anything anywhere. My Playlist folder just shows Now Playing.. help! thanks!

iTunes Podcasts on Windows Mobile Device?

Hey there,
I have an iPod Nano 8GB and a lot of PodCasts. I arrange all of my Music and PodCasts with iTunes and now would like to sync them as easily on my HTC Kaiser (TyTN II) as I can on my iPod.
I found a lot of software capable of reading RSS feeds I add manually but I want to use my iTunes. On the Mac there's "The Missing Sync" which syncs my iTunes Playlists including my PodCasts on my Windows Mobile PDA. Is there a solution which works the same on WinXP?
Regards,
NiTeSHiFT
OK, Think I found a solution:
Freeware: iTunes Sync:
http://www.binaryfortress.com/itunes-sync/
Will give it a try tonight when I'm back from work.
My Phone doest show up as a drive letter, so iTunes sync wont work has anyone else found a solution?

How to sync music from itunes to your winmo device for free.

since i started using winmo devices several years ago ive always had a big problem syncing my music via wmplayer on my pc to my device.at best its a long, laborious and tedious process until now.
ive been trying out several apps to play music on my samsung b7610 and came across pocket tunes.i downloaded the trial w/c comes with an itunes sync module for pc(it installs to your desktop) and an app w/c installs via activesyc onto the winmo phone.i tried out the itunes sync to transfer music and playlists to the b7610 and it was a straightforward process not unlike syncing your ipod to itunes(very easy).i tried the pocket tunes app on my pocket pc and true enough my music was there, all organized into playlists like in itunes and ready to go.i put on my earphones(a pair of klipsch in ear monitors) played a few songs and found pocket tunes very unsatisfying so i uninstalled it.
next up on my try out list was an app called kinoma play,so i installed it,updated its library and after it did its updating,lo and behold,my music was still there, complete with playlists and album art.curious i opened up my touch media player(built in player by samsung)updated and again my music was there.tried the same thing on wmp mobile and wasnt dissapointed.the music was still there.
i tried playing around with the sync module, taking out playlists, adding songs to itunes etc... and it still synced.
finally i have solved a problem ive had all these years trying to sync itunes with my winmo device.give it a try.heres a link to pocket tunes trial

*remember to d/l the windows installer and not the cab file.

[Q] What is the experience with itunes on mango?

Hi, I'm thinking about making the switch to windows phone 7 but I have some questions.
If I don't use zune and add music from my iTunes library, will I get the same experience on my wp7 phone, like the artwork in the hubs and artwork on the lock screen (mango feature) ?

You have to use Zune to get Music on your WP7. I imported my music from my iTunes library to Zune, and everything worked fine. I can't tell you anything about the artwork though, because it's not available for countries without Zune music store..
remove DRM and play itunes movies freely
Because of the protection, you can't transfer itunes files directly. To edit and remove protection from iTunes DRM protected video, or convert itunes files to iphone and other devices, you can download a m4v Converter free trial to convert files to any popular format easily.
Get it from: m4vconverter4mac.com/m4v-converter.html
once imported, the artist info will either be pulled by the phone itself or transferred when synced with the zune software.
but as stated, you can't sync a windows phone with itunes, just like you can't sync an iphone with zune.

[Q] Can I add a music CD to my Windows Phone?

I am looking to add a specific CD to my Windows Phone. I can see the CD listed in Zune Marketplace, but when I go to buy it, all songs are for some reason listed as “not available”, and I am not able to purchase this album. Is there a way for me to go to the music store and buy this album, and somehow install it in my Windows Phone?
Thanks,
Dave
You can certainly add albums, yes. A "CD" is a physical thing, which obviously can't be added to the phone. If you had a CD, you could rip the CD (using Zune, Windows Media Player, iTunes, whatever) and sync the ripped MP3/WMA/AAC files to the phone using Zune.
As for buying albums through the Marketplace, it can certainly be done. However, some songs/albums aren't available for purchase through the store - they're in the database, so you can search them and the phone will recognize them, but you can't play or download them - and you'll need to get that music from elsewhere if you want it. The first thing to check is whether the album is actually available, but under a different name or genre or publication date - it's quite common for one album to be in the catalog multiple times, with only one copy actually available. In the USA, you can also use Amazon MP3 to buy digital download music. There's also iTunes Music Store, if you don't mind installing that piece of *ahem* software. The phone can play music from any of those (though note it can *not* play iTunes movies/video clips, since Apple puts DRM on those that locks them to Apple products).
Thanks!
Hi,
Thanks for the great suggestions! I immediately found the album in question at the Amazon Digital Music Store. I downloaded the required software, and the album is now on my hard drive in my Windows Media Player.
Now – Please how do I get this album in my Windows Media Player added to my music collection in my Windows Phone?
Thanks again,
Dave

You need to add it to your Zune collection, not your WMP library. Your Windows Phone syncs through Zune.
Thanks Guys,
My Titan was a replacement WP. I had not set up a partnership between my new Titan and Zune because……… I didn’t have any reason to. Everything I needed synced perfectly from the cloud when I set up the replacement Titan.
I now have the album I wanted in my device and I appreciate the advice,
Dave
