Contacts restore - General Questions and Answers

Is there a way to restore outlook contacts directly from a file via copy /paste?
I mean like a .pst file as used by ms outlook.

did you mean outlook contact on your PDA?
please backup PIM file.

you should do what the guy above me said, or copy/paste through activesync which will convert into phone format,
anywayz i reccomend pim backup for contacts =D schedule auto backup and less hassle
um almost 99.99% of all custom roms come with it.. give it a try

PIM Backup 2.5
here it is
I find it easier to just let it sync with outlook after a rom upgrade. you will get all your contacts and mails back.
but make sure to use the pimbackup to keep your sms messages and call logs etc.

My push email server and pim backup started conflicting with each other after a few rom flashes so now only my email syncs with the server...I backup everything else via Pim Backup.

It's not a WinMo phone, right? contact your service provider. Most have the means to conduct PIM transfers between incompatible phones. Most will also charge you for the luxury. I think it's usually worth it not to have to retype every contact, when you have over a hundred...

how to import contacts directly?

Is there a way to import contacts directly to the phone, with no sync program.
I tried created a vcf file(vcard) but when I run it on the phone it doesnt seem to work.
Is there any other way without connecting it to a computer?
thank
There's a absolutely final ultimate solution, named as ppcpimbackup, with which you can backup your contacts, appointments, tasks into one file on your storage card, then restore them in just a click when you need.
Let alone to say, it's a freeware and also green.

Not what I was really after..... but maybe I will have a look at the format of it and rewrite mine into that.
The problem is I have all my contacts in a database and Im writing them to file, which can be anything..... So my idea is to write it to some format and then to make the change on the phone I just run the file(thinking opening a file like vCard) will import all the contacts into my address book. While this works for outlook and other programs I want to skip the computer process as everything I have is online........
So I will try and open the backup file and see if I can create the same format, if not I will need another plan.
thanks

Contacts Import?

Is it possible to put some kind of file, database I suppose, on my pocket PC and then import that into contacts? If so, to what kind of files should I export my Microsoft Office outlook contacts, where would I place it, and how would I team put it?
(I need to do this because my pocket PC will only sync notes and other files, it will not synchronise contacts, tasks, and calendar.)
PIMbackup will backup most everything, custom settings(some) all contacts and contact pictures to a single backup file which you can copy to another device and restore the backup.

POOM - App to read EDB (pim.vol?)

Hey
does there exists a reader respectivle an interface to gain access to EDB database files from microsoft over POOM? For example I need to reveal hidden contacts from my pim.vol after deleting my PCs partnership in activesync.
I know that the contacts and numbers are saved in plain text in the pim.vol - so, It can not be that hard?
thanks
nicky
why dont you use PIMBackup by dotfred?
thanks...'caus I guess PimBackup just copy the pim.vol to another location, like SPB Backup it does. Yesterday I tried SPB Backup without success... thats the problem: I need a tool that can establish a "connection" to the pim.vol and not just copy it.

Wrong.
PIMBackup DOES establish a connection. Copying over the pim.vol hasn't worked since WM5.
ah yeah, ur right. I checked it out. PimBackup gives me an compressed archive with all my pim items in plain text... but unfortunately it does just backup of the visible items... of course it does...^^
I called on dotfred regarding this matter, hope he can help...
thanks anyway for your suggestion!

Save messages on pc

Hy, I'm new of the forum. I ask sorry from the beginning for my bad english
I want know if ther are a program who can save all my messages (SMS and MMS) in a file of excel or word, like pc suite for nokia.I try with PIM backup but it save the messages in a file for him.
My phone it's a site,and I don't like have my messages on a site
SPB Backup program saves all of your phone information to there pc program. Then you can later see your texts through that program. I am not sure if it outputs to csv file though
how can I read csv files?
The reason I said CSV was because excell can read and open that file format
Jeyo Mobile Companion 2.1
It can backup sms to .xml format
