Grey-ish camera issues on Asus P535 - General Questions and Answers

Hi all.
My P535 is giving me a headache. When trying to take a picture in a not-so-well lit room, I'm getting grey stripes at the bottom of the image (always just the bottom) and pretty often some grey "overlay" over the whole image. Daylight images are just fine, artificial lights sometimes create poor-quality images. The latter is a common with the low-res digicams as far as I know.
PPC ws shipped with WM6 and didn't have issues with the camera. I later switched over to some 6.1Roms. There were some from PDA-Viet I found to be well fitting - don't remember versions or names, sry - and finally stayed with the Rom by vivi (I think it was something with AKU). While that Rom testing I noticed the first camera issues with vivi's release having the least issues of them all.
I later switched back to the original WM6 from the Asus Website for other reasons and am now facing the cam-problems mentioned above.
Is there some way to fix this via registry, hack or patch? Boardsearch results weren't really conclusive on this since almost none related. I'd prefer not to have to install another Rom since it took me quite some time to get my current setup straight and runnin'.
I'd appreciate any kind of help with this. It's nothing too urgent, but drivin me nuts
I'll append some sample images later.

no idea any1?

last bump on that. still hope there is some kind of fix or sth to make it a bit better at least, although i still couldn't find something myself.

I had same thing with default rom now using custom 6.1 and these lines and "half-images" disapeared i dont know it but i guess it can be something with pagepool because picture size is maxed to 400kb now i take 800kb pictures without glitches.

orange E650

Hello Hello,
Just got my SPV-E650 (orange) after having a good research of reviews. Everything was so positive i thought i could not go wrong! problems:
1. RAM - I think applications should close once you exit them. However i can tolerate task maanger so this isnt my real problem - The thing is, even when you close all application using Task Manager the RAM sometime remains really low - around 1mb to 4mb! NOT GOOD AT ALL! i tried refresh but it does nothing - in the end the phone has to be switched on and off as i can find no other way to sort it - i just dont see where all the memory goes! memory leak perhaps? anyone else had this problem?
2. In reviews no mention seems to be made at the painfully slow screen rotate from potrait to landscape - much much slower than the m3100.
To be honest it is a great little phone and i think i would put up with any problems as it is a nice little piece of HTC craftwork!
But if there is a soultion to the RAM/task manger issue i would be happy lad!
thanks
Look what ROM version you have installed! Sounds like an old one. Under settings -> device information. Flash a newer one, if you want to do that, the screen rotation will be faster and the memory leak isn't as bad with newer ROMs, mine usually stays above 20 Mbyte with a 1.27 ROM, but there are newer ROMs out there. Also you should have a look at AppCloser: http://wwwu.edu.uni-klu.ac.at/apitman/appcloser/index.php
ROM version is : 1.22.61.3
not really tech savy in this field. how would i go about making the change your advising?
also is there an application name list? as in all the .exe application names?
Well you should probably first try the appcloser and if that isn't enough, read the Vox Wiki on Flashing a ROM, there are enough on the ftp. If your not so good with all the tech stuff, you should rather try a shipped ROM than a cooked one, espacially since New Guava is more a beta version right now! But anyways read the Wiki first (link is in my signature)!
is there an pplication name list - as in all the .exe names?
I don't think so, just look in a task manager that shows you the process names like this one! and then add them to the list.
Well reading the VOX wiki has not really helped. It seems like a far to tricky method to fix the problem. The app closer doesnt really help. the problem seems to be:
That when an application is open the RAM goes down. When the app is closed it goes back up , but not back to where it was. Therfore every couple of hours the RAM has dropped to between 1mb and 3mb even if no appilcations are running.
I am surprised that other people have not had the same problem and that there is not a simple user friendly fix?
I have the same problem, its very minor though and sometimes I also regain the "lost" memory when closing programs.
I tend to close them one by one, and make sure I don't have too much open. Ofc I don't use that many programs at once
If Memory does get low, a soft reboot (turn it off/back on) fixes it.
Now if only my screen hadn't cracked today I'd be all happy

Hello everyone, It is time for me to finally make a contribution to this forum.
This is my first rom, and I have been working on it for way too many hours making sure that everything I use works. However I don't use everything and just haven't had time to make sure.
This is where I hope you will point out my mistakes so that I can fix them.
Notes:
CE OS shows 318 build because I used that nb0 (I couldn't find a bigger one)
Memory at startup is about 27-29mb free (with voice command enabled by default)
Also the storage memory, I synced my contacts and took some screenshots (informative ones) which is why it shows that number. You should get about 45mb before you sync 198contacts/caller id pictures, and not to mention about a dozen .bmp screenshots
The screenshots are edited obviously, to fit all of the icons

By the way, I'm thinking of adding fring and replace the explorer with the one duty made.
What I will not add for sure because it can run standalone off of a card is :
TaskManager2.9; PocketXpdf; Google Maps 2 (they actually update); TCPMP; ClearTemp;Backup SMS.
reserved as well just in case (for fixes and files)
Will try it out, Thanks for your work.
Thanks S.V.I.
Downloading now, will flash later today and post accordingly
Have a good one
Nice Job, The only bug so far is that it took 6 soft resets to get it to recognize the Data AT&T Network.
1)Hangs a bit when adding an appointment, Newer Build does not happen
So at this time 29 people downloaded. I hope to get more feedback but I don't expect it from anyone until about 24hours with this rom.
Pumpiron579: could it have been a bad flash? or perhaps a corrupted archive?
I don't have that issue at all I set up network wizard, let it reset and it works immediately. strange that you had to reset so much. I hope that everything works now?
Thanx for downloading and trying
I don't know why that happened. That was a first for me. See if anybody else has that specific problem. If not, it was just something with my flash ?? Everything works great know. Been using it for 5 hours.
I needed three soft resets to get the phone to start up, froze on splash screen - after three resets, its all good........
Will update this post as soon as I use it a bit more
All additional software installed and works without issue

camera works well - no issues, wifi set up without issue, sms tested and working. Phone works, calls are clear. Bluetooth set up with car hands free without issue.
I've never used pbar, so just need to get used to it. Lots of extras with this, so will need to play with it. But it does work.
So far, so good - battery is at 100% fully charged, will use for a bit and update some more.
I did not hard reset after flash, so that may have been my issue.
Nice rom so far - will continue to update
3 soft resets? strange. I will upload a different upgrade utility. se if that is solved. Mine does not do that. I did a hard reset after flashing without my sd card.
It may just be that the thing may have become corrupted when uploading/downloading/compressing. I will compress it less next time.
Working on fixes for things that I have experienced. will probably upload again tomorrow late night. I really need more feedback other than that issue.
How is the battery? Is the pBar working for you? camera, mms, Live office? everything good?

I Have the xip from 209, I just used the nb0 from a different one because it is bigger. is it really important that the numbers match??
Also, for those who have the issue of having to reset 3 times (2 people complained) I am posting another link in the 1st post.
congratulations on your rom I have seen grinminded has helped you out in your rom...
definitely this is a very good rom

yes, Grinminded guided me in a couple of areas.
I plan to get rid of live and replace it with fring (all in one instant messenger with skype capabilities) I have used it before and have to say that it works, but has a flaw: while a message is coming through, it freezes, so you can't type anymore. the result may be a garbled instant message if you are not carefull. You guys think it is a good idea or not?
also, i need to get rid of menu animation in the registry to make it work a little bit faster (you can fix that in the reg your self for now, before I upload. sorry for the wait.)
I'm also about to add some battery fixes so you may have to wait for that as well.
I have to catch up with a lot of work at the moment. if you have suggestions, please post them. I will work on it as soon as I can.
happy flashing
Hey SVI,
I've read a number of your posts in a few threads and must say I'm really looking forward to trying this. I think our ROM flavors are very similar. I've DLed your ROM, but haven't had a chance to install it yet, since I'm on the road right now. As far as replacing Live w/ Fring, I'm kind of the mindset that Live tends to be a little more 'universal' right now and working pretty flawlessly. Fring can always be added by cab. Just my 2 cents. Thanks very much for all your hard work.

Battery life appears as good as the other 6.1 rom's I've been trying - do not have any drain issues here. Good solid rom - works well for me.
Are you aware of any specific issues that I can perhaps check out for you ??
Good job - thank you

I would keep live messenger. 2 reasons I love this rom, 1) messenger, 2) M$ VC. when a rom does not have them cooked in, it takes up a lot of room installing them into the main memory. I use my messenger a lot.

I was working on this rom last night and decided to try out the "Live" and beat the $#!* out of it. The oem package that I have, is not very rock solid. I took the package out, and the performance improved. It runs in the background weather you like it or not. A far as messenger is concerned, I'm not sure yet. MS is letting people download Live Mobile in standard and pro. maybe they have updated and fixed some issues. I have also been working on the graphics for this monster (it's big) so not everything is black and white; originally I turned everything Grey to save space. I added some Reg tweaks having to deal with caches. the result is loss of ram (about 2mb). Will keep you posted, and probably update another version tomorrow.

Need info to make my own Custom ROMs for X7510

Hi people,
I come from the other side of the fence "Palm"
I just upgraded to the X7510, sweet piece of hardware and beautiful 5" display
So i'm very familiar in the Palm Treo world on customizing my own ROMs.
After reading & searching A LOT in here and other PPC forums, i still have a few utilities i can't seem to find.
So i read there is also a BootLoader screen in the PPC world, very typical of the HTC devices, makes custom ROMing very simple.
However, i still haven't come across the name of the applications you guys use to Dump (backup) the current ROM, and the Upload the new ROM into the device.
Or it seems like the only way is via ActiveSync 4.5 ?
Another doubt i have is about the Unlocked part.
My device is straight from HTC unlocked, does it mean it is fully SIM and CID unlocked, or it's only SIM unlocked?
By that i want to figure out if i need to run the CID unlock before doing the Custom ROMs etc.
And last but not least...
I'd like to contribute with the 7510 ROM original dump, seems like the Wiki doesn't have it yet,
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Athena_Upgrades
so i'll probably need the same whatever tool you guys use, as asked in my first question, to backup the old ROM.
which will also help us fill the empty space in the Wiki left for the very same question
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Athena
"How to dump the ROM"
Thanks
Cheers!
well... since i got no response from anybody
Thanks to myself
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408519
found the tool i was looking for to build my own rom.
and to top it off i finally found the ROM backup topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334680
now beats me on the mobile 6 subsection, and something that is totally on another area for another phone... oh well...
Good on you allgamer for taking a lead here. Some of us have been pushing for a separate 7510 forum under the Athena section. Without that we 7510 owners are continuously looking for "needles in haystacks".
cktlcmd and eaglesteve have been burning the 7510 candle for us. With your input we'll get this device on the map yet.
Hey i also just got a x7510, and id love see a x7510 rom!
hell yeah, you can say that again.... it was so hard to find anything, some times stuff like this the Search engine did not pick it up
like the rom dump, on another phone, i understand it is all PPC, but still it might have been different for some models
at least that was true in the Palm world, so i guess in the PPC world we'll have it easy, since it looks like all models dump appears to be the same.
as for the utility, never would have guessed it would have been found mentioned within a thread about something completely different.
anyways, now that i know, i'll be writing more about it, once i start working on it.

well, i don't mind sharing my custom ROMs, once i start cooking them.
but don't expect too much since, what i usually like to do is simply clean up all the junk that i don't need
then replace them with Freebies, or registered software, which if that is the case, i wont be able to share it here.
x7510 owners - forward march!
Something several of us are keen to see is a work around to make RealVGA work with Spb Mobile Shell. AllGamer, you mentioned in a post under "SPB Mobile Shell incompatible with Real VGA 96 dpi on the X7510" that you got a solution posted elsewhere working. Can you share with us how you did that?
Also, my devise is definately not running as smooth and quick as I would like it (or expect it to given its processor). As a prelude to getting some cooking going (and I'm not a chef) could we start to identify some tweaks that will make the stock ROM more efficient? For example I always ramp up the siz of cache etc. via MemMaid but to be honest I'm never sure whether it does any good or not.
Hi robjhellis,
Are you saying the performance in x7510 is not as smooth as it should be ? Can you please tell during what operations ie. Video etc it becomes sluggish. That would be a good place to start with.
Thanks,
Srini
Just guess, but i think that is the so much talked about behaviour of the video drivers issue on all HTC products
Videos are great no lag (well when i play them in coreplayer full screen, with specs up full). Only one "problem" lol...the audio is exactly -0.512milli seconds behind (when you hear it). So stupid tried all kinds of videos same result lol so thankfully coreplayer has an option were you just put "-0.512" in and ill kinda sync up the audio.. windows media player is pretty much pointless to play video now since you can't put -512 anywhere and the audio lags big time.
the audio in general is really bad, put on real expensive headphones and you can hear ssshhhhh hissss - the background noise.
Note: i was so shocked/surprised that i did a hard reset thinking maybe its something that i might of installed, but nope problem still there

Hi Guys, my issue isn't playing video - I haven't got to that stage yet on my 7510. Rather its just slow moving around menus, reloading after a soft reset, opening programs etc. I can sometimes count up to 3 and even 5 after selecting a tab before the tab appears e.g. Settings-System. I've also now started to see the start icon in the top left corner not redraw after a soft reset. There is much more lag than I see on my TyTN which, of course, is running a custom ROM

I will suggest to check in the ATHENA WM6 section the thread how to speed sogarth base rom....
Basically install netCF3.5 , FDCsoft Taskmanager 3.1 and start changing how/stopping started services and applications (There are many lauchxx keys in the registry to change to avoid self application startup)

By any chance, do you know how to exlude Biotouch from starting list? It is not started from startup links, or at least not directly. I was browsing the regs also, but could not find anything. I use FTouchSL and UL for cube effect on Today screan, so Biotuch seems to be useless.
Also, do you now what a wt5portm or something like that is for ?

its in advance - > near the bottom "manual A/V offset +/-"
but it still dosn't work...anyone got a solution plz....i don't know what to do the audio is always out of sync for any video..
I've found the same lag on audio and it is SO annoying! Nothing seems to fix it!!
I've created a quick "how-to" on dumping the x7510 ROM, which may be found here: http://htcathena.freeforums.org/dumping-your-x7510-s-rom-t6.html#p7
I will follow up with a "how-to" on re-constructing the ROM (unless somebody else feels inclined to do so instead). [Edit - found this how-to] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066
However, we still need HardSPL or similar. CMONEX told me she and Olipro are working on an unlocker with that functionality, so we'll need to wait a tad! Once we have that we can start cooking some ROM's.

My Fuze arrives in 2 days! What to do in the meantime?

So my new Fuze will get here Wednesday, and I'm trying to figure out the best sequence of activities so I can hit the ground running once I got it. Any suggestions?
P.S. My last phone was a Blue Angel, which I flashed and upgraded until eventually the radio stopepd working... and I lost the phone

You can start catching up on the ROM/radio threads so you can be familar with the device and its functions etc.. maybe look at screen protectors/cases for your fuze..
Ill tell you right now...
F*** the default ROM, dont even bother.
Once you get your phone flash HardSPL to it.
Make sure you found a ROM you think will be good, I suggest a 6.5 ROM you make, or any of At0mAng's ROMs, they are amazing.
Then make sure all the apps you want on your phone are ready to be installed.
FULLY CHARGE YOUR BATTERY. I cannot stress that enough.
Get a radio to flash to your phone.
LoL
Scratch ur hair lol
Well if you're intent on keeping it then I'd definitely get a nice case for it...I'm actually looking at a few right now The stock ROM isn't really bad with calls/call quality or anything else.
The only real problem I have with the stock ROM/Radio is that it is TERRIBLE with GPS. From a cold start you can expect about a 10 minute lock time with speed/position lag once you do get a lock and begin using it. So do some research on a radio that would best suite this...if its even that important to you..it is to me
I've read good and bad things about various radios, some say a particular one works for them, others say that it doesn't. I guess you'll have to flash and see..man that sounds dirty doesn't it... lol
Fap fap fap.
Heres a quick list of what (for me) you will need.
-New ROM At0mAngs stuff is good, Elite RC3 also, ROMeOS aswell.
-New Radio Try 1.12.25.19 or 1.08.25.20M1 You dont need the rilphone.dll but i figured it wouldnt hurt.
-hTorch by DeepThought (Light application, Brilliant.)
-PIMBackup Contacts BackUp Software.
-Advanced Config, Registry Tweaker as well as some other useful things
-Diamond Tweak, same as above but more related to Diamond/Raphael
-Nitrgoen 0.3.2, Music Player, Easy to use and nice on the eye.
I basically learned the ins and outs of my Raphael from www.blownfuze.org (if prompted for username/pass both are 'xda') d0ugie is a saint for doing all this so give him due credit.
surf for porn....
tvos
ditto what was said before.
i have the leaked att test rom upgrade and it works great for me. think about some skins, i'm trying out mobilematt's fuzeberry right now, or take a look at spb mobile shell 3.0. Gorgeous software, only it lagged my physical keyboard on the fuze (as did a program called battery meter - displays ur battery at the top of the screen - be sure not to install this). what else?
hmm i have finger menu installed, finger keyboard v2.1, cleanRAM, gAlarm, pocket Uno, skyfire mobile browser, opera mini, iris browser, spb tv, total commander, touch in call screen tweak or whatever it's called. hopefully you'll find a good set of apps

Choosing the right ROM

Well I'm sad to say but all the ROMs I have tried in the past couple of weeks haven't worked for me...
The story of my ROMs experimentation starts with T-Mobile Vario III and T-Mobile customized ROM. In short, like a worst nightmare! New version of T-Mobile customized ROM, nothing happened, everything was exactly same as with previous version.
Then I finally decided to try couple of WM 6.5 ROMs which worked like a charm but WM 6.5 is beta and half of the stuff in it is unfinished... Back to 6.1...
Than: HyperDragon (a few variants), shifu, Paradox, AthineOS, TPCExtreme, Ultimate-X... Mostly SuperRam ROMs... Hundred of pages in topics, dozens of fixes, black screens, restarts and so on... Applications that I don't need, folders confusingly organized, startup and bootup screens that don't fit to one business phone, black background icons (what's wrong with WM icons with transparent background) and so on...
Currently using stock HTC ROM and it works. It is sluggish but my device doesn't restart and I don't have to install at least 5 programs or fixes to make him work...
My question: Can someone point me to ROM that works without reading through 100 pages of topics and installing fixes for stuff that should work like notification and volume control? I use my Kasier as a business phone and primary e-mail reading device and I can't afford for my Kaiser to be offline for couple of hours (not to mention a day) and don't have time to read thousands of posts of "how-to-fix".
What do I need? Messaging (SMS and e-mail with notifications working), Opera, iGO, working Volume control, Bluetooth and jog wheel to be able to quickly quite my device if in a meeting or to change the volume of speaker when in a call.
I don't mean to disrespect all the chef's around and I do appreciate your work because for most of people around here you make their Kaisers work the way they should work!

If you want you machine to work right off the rip I would stay with a stock rom. while all the roms here are great unforseen prob do come up. While the cooks try to help fix it they do it for fun and have other matters to attend to.

I totally agree...
Anyway, if you look at the way PDACorner organized his post, you'll see that on post #2, there is a list of known bug with links to all fixes... This is really a way of organizing things that I personnally like very much and can save you from reading 1000s of posts for getting the info...
Flashing is for those of us who want to make our phones perfect, the best Apps, the best speed, the very best function and style. We don't mind a little work to or reading to get them " exactly " the way we want it.
I have worked at getting My phone perfect ( also a business phone ) and it is. None of the problems that you seem to think are inherent in every cooked rom.
You sound to me like the stock rom type not the cooked rom type. Do it HTC's way and stick with the stock rom.
There is a huge difference between stock roms and cooked roms. Stock roms are meant to work flawlessly, without bugs and without too many additional software. The default configuration will work, will (most likely) not crash, but won't do anything fancy either. It might also be slow at times.
Cooked roms are made for those who would like to experiment. People who don't mind a crash now or then, and don't mind to reflash every day/week/month (tick the one that applies ).
If i would use my phone for business purposes i would probably stay with the stock ROM or flash a stable 6.1 ROM, like PDACorner's.
Nevertheless there is no such thing as a perfect ROM. Every ROM has it's advantages as well as disadvantages. Live with it; Windows Mobile just isn't a perfect mobile OS, while doubting the fact any OS can be...
I switch ROM's on a regulary basis. Basic functions always work, no matter the ROM. I flash because additional features work better/faster/more stable on certain ROM's than others. But this requires some of your time, to flash and set everything up again.
The fun is that all of this is up to you. If you like to experiment, then flash as much as you like until you find something you like. There will always be certain flaws where you will have to live with.
There is no such thing as perfect ROM! Always remember to keep flashing and keep reading!

Read, my friend. I said they are meant to work without bugs and work flawlessly in a default configuration. You won't hear me say that they always do.
Nevertheless the stock ROM will in most cases do sort of everything the way it is meant to be. The change of finding broken application links or errors from mortscript i.e., is pretty small, if not none. And if these errors do appear, you've obviously bought a phone of bad quality.
This said, i'm not using a stock ROM myself. In that case i wouldn't reply to this topic. I'm someone, just like the rest here i suppose, who likes to switch to the newest, even though the quality might be worse then what i've had. But i'm always in for something new, which you might not be if you're using you phone for business purposes and do very much rely on the call quality, for example.
It's simple really either you stick to stocks or you become a flasher @ which point you will flash untill you find that ROM that you know can be used every day and still carry on flashin to try find a new better ROM if you don't like or got bugz you flash back to your every day ROM......
If it all seems tooo much and your a person who can't problem solve "read" and also put in the time to set up device as you wish then a stock is best bet.
Goverment Health Warning:
After flashing you may suffer from Flashers OCD!!!

Then you have one last choice in picking up a kitchen and learning to cook your own rom, but above warning still applies.
yes
As it has been said, rom flashing is personal preference, please find the perfect one for you whether it is a oem or custom rom through searching and flashing.
Closing thread,
Peace,
Joshua
