Sorry all I didn't mean to abandon the thread. I drove 11&1/2 hours yesterday from Elburn, IL to Dimondale, MI and back to pick up a rare polydactyl kitten. "Mew mew mew mew meow mew mew".....

You heard the man! get downloading.
I have to redownload hero myself. I was in traffic going down I-94E coming into Indiana, and maps took over a minute to get me back to the home screen. I was furious lol. so i went to the forum and grabbed the latest cyanogen and flashed on the go.
while my downloads are going, and my skillet is cooking I'll throw out what cleanup commands I remember using.
Code:
su
cd system/apps
rm ./*idget*
rm ./*itter*
rm ./*eather*
rm ./*tock*
Yes I am one lazy ass bastard more to come ...

Warning you will get a force close message each boot if you remove the social network provider file. i still did it and I'm looking on how to get rid of the message
The "One Thing" about Hero above all else is its Rosie interface. Get rid of it and you have a really crippled Hero. Of coure Hero has a nice dialer, facebook/twitter support etc but I'm pretty certain 90% of people want Hero for its UI
one word: FLASH
F**K the rest
This is exactly what ive been hoping for!!!!
yeah i recently left all social networks ... i remembered that I'm not a social person and I really dont even like to leave the house so who needs 'em?
I have a feeling that plenty of people know whats wrong but wont tell me because my searchFu is weak
The Launcher.apk that comes with the latest Hero releases will work as the standard Launcher. For example, I'm running JACHero 2.1 right now in this same fashion (Rosie, Stocks, QuickOffice, Widgets and various other bloat removed) It functions very well, and makes everything way more responsive when you ditch the TouchFlo UI, but you will also lose the widgets. The upside to it though is that almost every widget in TouchFlo is basically an interface for its main app. So even though you're using a standard Launcher.apk, you can still fire up Weather, Twitter (HTC Peep), Stocks, etc. The dialer, Contacts, Facebook integration and such remain intact.
This a great way for people who don't have class 6 SD cards and run into excessive loading times, or the few users who just plain don't like the TouchFlo interface.
If you're running JACHero, you should already have a Launcher.apk in your apps directory. You can either go into your applications list, click on Rosie, and Clear defaults (then press the Home button to select your Home of choice) or simple delete the Rosie.apk and Rosie.odex files from your build to automatically make Launcher.apk your default home screen (Make sure you actually do have the Launcher.apk in the apps directory before you do this though, or you'll be stuck staring at a ghosted boot screen)
Also, I'll add that i did attempt to use the 5 icon 5 screen Launcher from TheDude's build, but it wouldn't work in the Hero rom for some reason.
Ima try it out
Seems that the Launcher.apk has been removed from JACHero builds 2.3.1 and higher. If you don't have it in your build, you can most likely pull it from and earlier 2.x build that is 2.3 or lower.
here you all go. i needed this because i have to create a "Phone Info" shortcut with Any Cut to switch to "WCDMA Only" so my 3G signal does not drop and the shortcut doesnt show up on the TouchFlo interface.
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=6bf0dcc2f919bfb907258ee67c679e4ae04e75f6e8ebb871

su [enter]
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system [enter]
cd /sdcard/ [enter]
busybox cp launcher.apk /system/app [enter]
busybox cp launcher.odex /system/app [enter]
then reboot
You will need to grab Launcher from an earlier JACHero 2.x build if you want to use it. It is not included in the roms you mentioned, and as you have already noticed ones from non-hero builds won't work. Sure would be nice to get the 5 screen mod working on the launcher from hero.
Touchflo is definately more appealing to the eye, but it really isn't happy running on the Dream. All the Hero roms I've tested run great with launcher as default. Even the ones from before the tweaking was done. I know there are moddified versions or Rosie in some of the roms that are supposed to use less ram, but I still didn't really notice much of a differance when using them. Just installed the new "Super Optimized" one that coolbho3000 posted and it works great so far.
Here's a couple ideas (for someone more skilled then myself)[still learning]
How about a modified version of launcher to mimic touchflo? Would it be hard to make an overlay above drawer level that has links to dialer, add to home, and open drawer? If most people just like use it for the look
someone could even make one for non HERO builds.
Also, since all the "HTC" widgets are linked to apps, could we possibly make "Android" widget clones of them? I know it's probably too much time and hassle, but this would be good for use with hero apps (like the music player) that are ported to other builds.
Personally I'm getting sick of the hero build ... yeah the launcher looks good but the only good point is that it has flash player while its looking by the end of October its will be released to the android community
I'm now waiting for the Ophone build to be ported lol I actually sat there and said I WILL BE THE ONE TO DO IT! ..... I haven't a clue where to start ha-ha
but my quick answer to the above question I Believe if you push the old launcher .apk first then u should be able to upgrade to cyanogen launcher.apk
hey im getting ready to remove rosie and what not.....since im not gonna be using rosie, cant i do away with all the htc widgets??

P.S
PLZ if some on knows how to make a 5 screened (auto-rotate *cough*) Launcher.apk that is compatible with JACHERO 2.3.3, that would be grate and i think im talking for all of us when i say "THAT SH*T WOULD BE AWESOME"...so if you want the respect of many, and have the skill to do this...PLZ DO!!!!
Thanks again in advanced

thanks for this,
I tried touchflo hero but it was way too slow and clunky but I really like the HTC apps so using the alternative home launcher is much better for me.
Best of both worlds
BTW I'm one of those rare people who haven't done apps2sd
me = Black G1
JAC2.3.3 with old launcher = happy
If you've never heard of rar it means you must be a windows only user which means you probably want this

Hello everyone, I've been playing with my defy on 2.51.1 blur for a while, trying to deblur it to the bone I removed a lot of stuff without messing with the standard phone operations like sms or mail sync, and I freed up almost 100mb of RAM.
Now I'm fine tuning my removal procedures but I'd like to start a sort of "mapping" of the remaining apps, in order to avoid renaming the wrong apk and finding myself with some broken funtions, which I'll probably discover in a month or so when I'll have forgot all my tweaks..
So here we are, the next list is the "non standard" apps I left untouched, mainly because I did not know what they do and cannot find any useful info online.
They may be "blur" or may not, so help identifying their usage would be good

Thank you all and sorry for the huge post.. hope it'll be useful to someone
just to clarify something, I know I left some blur apps in the "untouchable" list, but I did on purpose for different reasons. Sometimes an app is needed to properly use the contact list or send sms, sometime removing it made the phone really slow.. so I left them unrenamed
Well, as the APK's in the system/app folder differ depending on the ROM you use, this list might not be useful for all roms, but thanks for sharing, i hope this helped removing bloatware for many people.
2.51.1 Italy to be precise

Good work! Think it would be a good idea to put the actual lists in spoiler tags so they're easier to scroll through

I deleted blurhome.apk and found myself with 100% cpu occupacy all the time, as soon as I put it back where it belonged the cpu usage returned to normal so... not a good idea to remove blurhome, believe me.
as soon as I remove voice recognition I get an error popup which won't go away even if I reboot the phone, it keeps popping out, so voice recognition has to stay
quickoffice has nothing to do with blur, it's an application I might want to use, same for revolver and amazon. I mean, I DO remove them, but they're not blur related

I read a lot of comments about cpu usage removing blurhome, maybe it's different depending on the rom, I don't know.
Same story for voice recognition, I keep having that popup if I remove it.. but, no big deal, it's not blur related, I don't think it really slows down the phone
I'm more concerned about *moto* and *blur" apps/services
I'm using official froyo korea rom on my defy and it hasn't kodak perfect touch kpt.apk.
I want to install kpt.Anyone upload kpt.apk to anywhere please.
UgduiBill, voice recognition service always stay in memory, properly because of this, I removed it and I just never used this service.
fine for me.

How in the world can I reinstall the stock clock app?
you can't, because the HTC apps you took from the stock MT4G rom WILL NOT work with AOSP roms (cyanogenmod, vanilla roms, etc). why? because Sense apps require the Sense frameworks, that AOSP don't have. closest you can get to getting the Sense widgets on an AOSP rom is trying to find them on the market.
SO WHATEVER YOU DO, SENSE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT INSTALL ON YOUR GLACIER IF IT IS RUNNING AN AOSP ROM.

I recently rooted my MyTouch 4G and installed Cyanogenmod. However, some of the stock T-Mobile / HTC apps were really good. For example, the clock app, "HtcClockWidget.apk".
However, when I try to install it, I just get a green checkmark and a message "Application not installed".
I have the APK's that I have extracted from a backup archive:

Download go weather they have a sense clock theme
sent from mi myTouch ICS 4G via xda premium
There is a way to make fancy widget look like the sense clock, but I don't know of another way than extracting it from royal ginger.
On another note, if you want a slimmed down version of sense that those widgets and apps might work on, try the NoNsense ROM in the Dev section.

Maybe I was unclear, but I don't give a crap what the clock looks like or the widget. What I'm interested in is the "Clock" app, which has a stopwatch, timer, and alarm clock.

still won't work... read my post again...
I am curious where some system apps do reside. For example My phone has preinstalled "UCBrowser", Vimi and other useless applications for me.
I have the phone rooted but I can't find where they are installed! I also searched the 3.2.1 ROM by extracting system.img but the apps are not there. Where do they reside?
Thanks
If you're looking for the APK files:
/system/app
or
/data/app
However, you should use some dedicated tool to remove those preinstalled apps (in order to remove their data other than the APK).
Yeah, I've looked there, nothing. I tried many root uninstallers but no root uninstaller is able to delete the apps, they all say unknown error, cannot delete file please try again and so on. The applications are not running.
Similar but opposite case is with my alarm application, that one (also system app) uninstalled using root uninstaller, but I removed it by mistake probably as a part of some other application and now I can't get it back. Like UC browser I can't find it anywhere, this time looking in ROM image.
regarding the lost alarm app here are all "userdata.img" apps:
Code:
AldikoEbookReader.apk Facebook.apk OperaMobile.apk tetris.apk
Anduzzle.apk frozenbubble.apk PDF.apk touchpool.apk

baidu_ime.apk MSN_Talk.apk robodefense.apk YouTube.apk

Hey, guys. I am not native English speaker, sorry for my English.
I bought a China Smartphone Haier HT-I860, technical details are here:
CPU: MediaTek MT6589
RAM: 1GB
ROM(eMMC): 4GB
Screen: 5 inch qHD(960x540) TFT screen
Cell network: TD-SCDMA / GSM and dual SIM card
Android version: 4.2.1
Kernel version: 3.4.5
I made a CWM recovery for this phone and flash Gapps (20130812 version from goo.im) into it. Everything works fine except Google Play. Everytime I click Google Play, it shows that "No connection, Retry". I am sure that my Wi-Fi network is OK. Other Google APP like Google Plus, Gmail, Google Voice Search works fine.
I have tried many method to solve this problem, like wipe /data and /cache, wipe dalvik cache, edit /etc/hosts, flash other version Gapps. All of these are *useless*. I think there are something wrong with this android build or library.
I have contact Haier customer service, they only send me a old version ROM. I tried and still have this problem.
I updated this ROM into Baidu.com. You can download it from http://pan.baidu.com/s/1dD3kWyH
If you want log or any other thing, please reply this post and tell me how to get it. I don't know how to get log or more.
Thanks

I have ran logcat on my phone, and got too many logs(about 10000 lines) to read. Here are logs:
But I found something interesting in logs:
Code:
E/DfeApi ( 1980): [1] DfeRequest.deliverResponse: Null wrapper parsed for request=[[ ] https://android.clients.google.com/fdfe/toc?shh=zen2II1nK1Sx2swLcCn16w 0xe8d195d1 NORMAL 12]
I search it on Google, find same problem like me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131790&page=131
http://forum.tegraowners.com/viewtopic.php?p=42588
Perhaps these problems are not solved.
4781 2688834
Still unsolved. Does any one have good idea?
I had similar problem with Coolpad phone. Here's what I did:
Edit build.prop file chaning language and location to en and US
Remove the existing vending.apk and what appeared to be google apks
Follow instructions in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874285
I'm not sure if the files provided in that link were the ones that worked for me or not, I found similar instructions across the net and downloaded a few different versions of google play, framework and login apks. I tried a few different files until one worked.
Don;t load the apps, save them in the system/app directory.
As outlined in one of the replies in the link above, edit the permissions for each of the files you copied and then reboot.
When I first did this, I kept getting various google... stopped working messages. I then went into app manager and reset the apps. This loaded some bloatware I deleted but after a reboot it worked fine. Now I'm freezing a few bloatware apps at a time to see what I can get rid of without impacting this.
One last thing I noticed was that sometimes when you load or unload apps, you need to give the phone a minute to configure itself. Don;t jump right into the app and get upset if its not working right.
