When changing time zones, prevent appointments from shifting. - General Questions and Answers

So,
When I go to set my clock for a different time zone (not using the automatic setting in phone settings, that has been disabled) for a time change, it seems all my appointment times shift with the time zone change. This makes no sense to me, and has been with me since wm 6 then 6.1 and now 6.5.
Does anyone have a solution to this (which doesn't involve keeping the time zone the same in clocks and alarms)
Thanks!

Time keeps shifting randomly

On the original ROM and the udK Diamond R6 I have the same problem: the clock of my Cruise/Polaris shifts about 2 times a day from the current time to a total different time.
For instance: around 21:46, the phone switches tot 1:18. The time difference is also always different, so it doesn't look like a timezone issue. The timezone is always correct by the way.
It looks like the shifting usually occurs in the evening/night, I haven't noticed a change in time before 6pm.
I can't find what's causing this, but it's annoying, I missed a few wake up alarms this way!!
The programs I've installed (on both the original and the R6):
- Spb Traveler
- Spb Time
- Live Messenger
- Opera Browser
- TomTom 7
- Spb mobile shell (R6 only)
Does someone recognize these issues, and know how to solve it?
turn off auto update for the clock.
where can I find this?
Turn off Automatic change timezone and clock
you should go to Settings-->personal-->phone
Under phone you have Time Zone Tab, Just uncheck the "Automatic change timezone and clock" and press ok that should take care of the problem.

Syncing the wrong time

Hi there,
I live in Brisbane, QLD, Aus, which doesn't participate in daylight saving. I run windows xp on my laptop, and when time zone this is confirmed by the absence of the option to automatically adjust for daylight saving.
When I sync my HTC touch pro, it changes the clock and all appointments to an hour later. I've tried deselecting the option to not sync the clock, but it still changes the time of the appointments.
Any ideas?

Verizon Touch Pro 2 Calendar

I have had a TP2 for about two weeks and have a problem I can't find a fix for.
I travel across time zones frequently. When the TP2 clock updates to the new time zone all the times in the calendar change.
The only workaround I have found is to set the home and visiting times to EDT and disabling the clock auto updating, but this makes the time shown on home page wrong whenever it is not in my home time zone.
Does anybody know a way to fix this?
Thanks
Don't they just update to the time zone you are in and then return back to "normal" when you return to your home timezone? I'm not totally sure I understand your question with this, as this is something that I personally like
If this is what your issue is I'll fiddle with it and see if I can find a fix.
The problem I have is I when I stay in the other time zones all the calendar times are off.
Example: If I am in Denver, Mountain time zone, and I want to enter a flight next week from Seattle to Indianapolis do I add 1 hour to the Seattle departure time and subtract 1 hour from the Indianapolis arrival time, or is it the other way around? Too confusing and too many ways to mess up.
I want to put sync my Outlook calendar with the TP2 calendar. When I travel the times on Outlook do not change when the time on my laptop changes, but all the times on the TP2 change.
Thanks
I set the proper time zone when creating the calendar appointment in outlook on my laptop (I think its under options). Then I'm always on the right time. On the phone, I have to "fool it" by temporarily setting the clock to that alternate time zone before creating the new appointment, but with the world clock its pretty quick.
I don't want the times in the calendar to ever change. I want them to stay the same no matter what time zone the phone is in.
If I disable the clock updating the calendar times will not change, but now I have a phone with the displayed time wrong except when I am in my home time zone.
Does anybody use a TP2 when they travel?
There should be a way to make this calendar not change when crossing time zones.
I don't have a solution for this, but I suspect that when you change time zones, there is nothing that will keep all of the appointments from changing.
I don't know this to be a fact with 6.1, but I suspect that like in other operating systems, the dates are stored in UTC time. When they are displayed on the screen, they are adjusted, on the fly, for the proper time zone. If this is true for 6.1, then it's all or nothing.
I'm on an Exchange Server, so I can enter appointments anywhere and they sync to the phone. When I travel, I DO NOT change the TZ on my laptop and enter the calendar appointments on it, not the phone. This may not work for you, but it's a thought.

Automatically set vibration from 8am-5pm?

Hello,
I am searching for a way to automatically set vibration from 8am to 5pm (during work).
Like the sense option to automatically set to vibrate during appointment but without having to set an appointment for work everyday, it would look to confusing.
Do you have any ideas?

There's an app called Mute4 that will set your phone to vibrate for up to 3 h; maybe you could ask the developer to increase the mute time to 9 h, or have it adjustable. Otherwise, you can definitely do it with SK Schema.
I used to have a program on my old blueangel that used to allow me to change ring tones etc according to which cell tower i was in, I think it also had a time based scheduler)
Give me a couple of days and I will try to find it.
The downside was that it sucked the battery (back in the wm2003 days)

BUT it doesn't seem to have been updated past wm2003, there might be similar programs though

App recommendation: need alarm clock that can be pinned to a time zone or GMT/UTC

Hi all, I'm looking for an alarm clock app for which I can set alarms that go off at a given time in a specified time zone, regardless of the current time zone I'm in, or in the case of Standard vs. Daylight zones, regardless of the currently active time zone. For example, if I set an alarm to 6:00 am Mountain Standard Time, it will go off at 7:00 am in Mountain Daylight Time, or 8:00 am in Eastern Standard Time.
I've looked into the Suntimes app on F-droid, and it's almost got what I need but not quite.
I could also work with an app that supported setting alarms on GMT.

Background: I work as an over-the-road truck driver, and my work sometimes takes me across time zones, but I'd like to stay on my home time zone sleep/wake schedule. As a truck driver, I am required to have 10 hours of "sleeper berth" and/or "off duty" log time at the end of each day before I can start driving the next day, and changing time zones can really mess that up.More background: Also, I abhor these stupid, anachronistic time changes we suffer every spring and fall here in most of the USA, and since I can choose when I start my work day, I'd rather just ignore that change by having my alarm clock automatically adjust when it goes off to keep me getting up at the same mean time each day, regardless of what the clock says.
