I downloaded the HTC FM radio app on my fuze but when i start it, it says that I need a headset plugged in to be used as antenna..is it possible to use the FM radio without a headset and just play it on speakerphone?!?!
Nope, the headset-cable is needed as antenna, you won't get any station without the headset. I remember a little tool which can redirect the sound to the speaker, but also only with plugged cable.

As far as I know, the FM Radio has a Menu option to output audio to the Speaker. But of course the headset still needs to be plugged in as the antenna.

I have a friend with the Sprint version of my ATT phone. He doesnt require anytype of adapter or headset, or so he says. Is there another version of the FM radio program or is it some type of functionality with his phone?
its just a sprint thing i guess because ive read tons of threads about FM radios and they all needed to have a headseat or earphones for the reception . i do know that you can route the soud to the speakerphone inside the application but you still need the headphones like stated before .

AFAIK the Sprint (CDMA) version of the Touch Pro does not have the FM Radio hardware that the GSM version does. Perhaps your friend is talking about some type of Internet Radio?

hi, for those who got the ATT Captivative, do you konw if the phoen comes with FM radio? I searched online and it looks like the phone may not come with it.
Doesn't have the software for it, may or may not have the actual hardware.
Doesn't come with FM. The hardware *may* be there and if so could possibly be enabled with a custom kernel but no one knows for sure yet.
The hardware is there, theres just no drivers in the shipped kernel, but yes theres also the chance that att decided to request samsung to remove the fm radio chipset, so that people would use att radio services etc.
Sick and tire of AT&T. Why disable the fm radio?
ATT wants to make more money off of their subscribers by making them use the ATT app which causes the user to use data (pay for a larger data plan) and pay a monthly subscription fee.
The Euro version comes with an FMRadio.apk I installed it and the GUI works fine (even detected that I didn't have my headphones plugged in) but, threw an error that the app couldn't start the radio.
So, my conclusion would be that we just need to get the drivers from the Euro version of the Galaxy S and put them into a custom kernal and install the FMRadio.apk = we would have a working FM radio.
Should be very possible and very likely to happen!
If you want it to just listen to the Radio, try IHeartRadio it has an extremely large collection of Radio stations across the nation streamed to the phone.
Once again: that uses data. I think we were hoping for a REAL WORKING FM RADIO. This should be possible.
thanks for the feedback guys. I really don't understand why ATT always want to cripple these devices.
Hopefully someone will get it to work.
Can't blame AT&T solely here. It looks like none of the US spec Galaxy S phones will have FM radio.

I heart radio only has clear channel stations. So if the station you want to listen isnt owned by clear channel, you need to find an alternative.
I use RadioTime on my squeezebox for both local and non-local radio, and it appears they have a (pay) app.

pandora app in store but it uses data to stream your music, just music of your choice nothing else
what is the outcome of this investigation?
I use this portal http://www.thestreamcenter.com/ and streamfurious http://www.streamfurious.com/ but I agree! We need to get our FM radio hardware working. I did this with my Fuze and Tilt II thanks to xda.

Doesn't make sense, since the HTC Aria has an FM radio. My guess would be Samsung didn't take the time to get FCC clearance for the FM radio.
Why did this thread fall to page 3... It's still a problem and I want to know if it has an FM radio or not.
Dont get me wrong, all cell companies are evil. but dont blame them for something that the hardware manufacturers are obviously doing.
im in canada with rogers with the i896 version of the i897 model, NO FM.
not even the international version of the i897 model has working FM.
dont blame att.... for this.
Hi, I need to know before buying this phone if there is a chance to activate FM Radio in this device. Or if only by downloading an application like Spirit FM Radio found in the android market would work.
Would work on this phone.?
Thanks in advance to all who replies!
I'm sorry. AFAIK there is no radio chip (hardware) in this device.

RDS RADIO!!!
So there is no way to have real FM RDS radio on this device....that really sucks!! ok, supposing I buy this device, I listen to radio a lot, at my work, when going to it, when going to home, whatever....what I need to know now is, how much bandwidth or internet gprs traffic do I need to buy or pay (for example 3GB per month) to use TuneIn and listen to radio without concerns on the phone´s bill?
Use WiFi not 3G

.... ah, that is like asking 'How long is a piece of string'. I use WiFi at work and home and so I cannot answer that question. I only know it makes no dent in my Broadband Plan.
I plan buy this mobile but I want know if it supports FM radio?
Normally it hasn't... But some other phones, like Droid 3, support it via application like Spirit FM etc...
It has the same solution???

The chipset of our phone supports it, but I seem to recall that our phone doesn't have an antenna connected to the pins to enable it.
too bad... same situation in Samsung i927 too??
I don't think so.
Playing around with my AT&T V20 I noticed with the fm radio while having my headsets plugged in I can toggle the phone speaker on. So for people that don't have headsets they can use a 3.5 cord and be able to use the fm radio. Its located in the top right hand corner next to the 3 for menu. Just make sure a 3.5 cable/headset is plugged in first lol
So I don't know if this is known or not but figured can't hurt to post it.

There was some discussion that the FM radio is on the US996, but none of the driver files is. However, we would need someone to actually take a look, or supply the driver files and have someone with a US996 load them...
I have the DS model with FM Radio. If we can get root on this model I should be able to rip the FM files for you. Usually the FM Radio is part of the chipset. I suspect the hardware is in all phones, but some are missing the software/drivers. It makes you stream more data without FM Radio, that's how the telcos make $$$
Do you need root to simply start with adb pull through usb to try and get the app out as a first step / test. I'll try it on my rooted us996.

Me too!! Searching for a way to enable the FM. NextRadio says it "doesn't have access to the FM receiver in the device."
You can try the app - FM Radio Speaker is an easy-to-use tool that can turn on the speaker to play when the headphones are inserted.

Wow, talk about necroing a thread
Since it is already necroed..... The FM chip exists on all models of the V20. However, it isn't just a firmware issue. In the CPU there are feature qfuses that can be blown to enable or disable features. Since it appears that the FM chip can be enabled by a firmware upgrade, the models that it doesn't exist on probably don't have that feature fuse blown. So, yes, it is possible to blow the fuse and then add the firmware. I am still researching how to blow fuses that aren't blown.

I went to use my NextRadio app and I got this:
"Thank you for trying NextRadio!
Unfortunately, NextRadio no longer provides radio streams and is now incompatible with your device. We apologize for the inconvenience."
I had my headphone plugged in, firmware up-to-date and nothing.
I check my Note 9 and it works perfectly.
I'm saddened to be missing this important feature. Especially this time of year when I'm listening to sports radio frequently.
I checked with google and I came across post that said Verizon confirmed that the chip is there but is blocking it on the Verizon network.
I am with T-Mobile but this is the first time I have ever purchased an unlocked phone. I am a little worried that I am s.o.l. with this and that Samsung has disabled the chip themselves (if I even have it). I know T-Mobile pushes their OEM partners to support it. Can anyone with an T-Mobile branded phone please see if theirs work or notwith NextRadio?
OR is this really just an unintended causality of war in the removal of the headphone jack? I was hoping that having USB-C headphones would still act as an antenna.

Went to a tmobile store yesterday and installed nextradio on a SN10+, this is what it said after trying to run it:
"thank you for trying nextradio!
We'd love to bring you local fm radio, but nextradio doesn't have access to the fm radio receiver in your device. Let your wireless carrier know that you'd like to listen to free fm radio on your phone with nextradio!"
So tmobile has gone back on their word? Or maybe they cannot figure out how to turn the USB-c headphones into an antenna?
Frustrating but at least we got an extra 100mah in our batteries (2.33%) to make up for the lack of features.

After reading the Verizon post and my experience at T-Mobile, your statement is incorrect. There is a FM chip but it being enabled or having access to it is a different situation.
My phone came directly from Samsung and gives the same message. This is Not a carrier issue, it's Samsung.
I think this is a Samsung thing as well. I made the unfortunate mistake of ordering the international version so i would be able to root it and play with some of the ROMs that are out there, without realizing the phone would be locked into Singapore mode (all samsung and google apps are giving recommendations for popular apps or products and services in Singapore even though my google play and samsung apps are registered in the US!). Either way thats my fault for not researching it better but, but the point of my post is that I get the same error everyone else is getting for the FM chip, so its not a Carrier thing. Even if i take the sim card out and connect to wifi only, and no carrier at all, i still get the error about the FM Radio.
Hi everyone. I have N975U1 and have the same problem. Is there a way to use FM Radio? Or gsmarena made a mistake saying this phone has? Thanks
