Does anybody know if it's possible for the TD2 to download weather and stock quotes using the wifi only (if available), and not 3G connection (cause it's very expensive)?
Thanks
Its set up to automatically use WiFi when available. WiFi will always override 3G..
But you can't totally disable 3G, right?
You can, by using the Switch in the Comm Manager => Data Connection
Or you can go into All settings => Personal => Buttons and configure the End Button to disable Data Connection..
I know that, but the device turns this feature back on automatically if I try to send an e-mail or receive.
Go to All Settings>Connections>Advanced Network
In the drop down menu go to disable. That is all. Should be off for good till you turn it on/
heloooo~!!!1
i confirm that weather works with wify faster than 3G. Any application will lauch faster tahn 3G in wiffy.
Any who... i have T-mobile.....US...no 3G..just Edge but it works....actually i have the Touch pro2 and i can even stream video from my own home using Orb. Edge works perfect but wiify is way better than any band u are into.
Have a nice day guys.

HTC support said to go to Connections (in Connections tab) --> Advanced tab --> select networks --> create an empty profile and use it there
what about using NODATA.CAB???
If you're talking about Modaco's nodata.cab it didn't work for me....

That was the method I used to prevent costly dial-up on my previous 2G phone, it works fine.
what I did so that my Topaz dowsn't connect to 3G: settings - all settings - connections - advanced network - and there: Enable HSDPA only
and this pretty much did the trick. I saw that instead of a 3G icon on the screen, I'd see an icon with an "E".

I dont have a data plan for my SP5m so my provider defaults any data access at a high "per KB" rate. Is there a way to prevent all GRPS/EDGE usage ? Ideally, I'd like to just be able to turn GPRS/EDGE "off".
the only thought I've had thus far is to use some "fake" settings so any attempt to use GPRS/EDGE would simply fail to connect.
Is there a solution or is my "fake" idea the way to go ? If I use the "fake" solution, what setting(s) do I need to change ?
I think all you have to do is delete the connection. Click the start menu then settings then connections and connections again. Then click on manage existing connections. Then take your stylus and hold it down on the connection name, for example for me it is tmobile, until a pop up box comes saying delete and connect. Tap on delete and your gprs settings are gone and you cannot connect.
If you want to keep your settings, maybe you can just create a new connection with fake settings and have that chosen as your connection when you dont want to use your providers GPRS.
The settings to change would be the number to dial, for me it is internet2.voicestream.com.
Goto Settings/Connections
Choose Connections, got to Advanced tab.
In "Programsthat automatically connect to internet should connect using:"
choose "My ISP". Or create new one with empty parameters..
Have fun....
deleted connection
Thanks for the easy solution (I like those types). I went ahead and deleted the GPRS connection. Things are behaving just the way I wanted !

hmmm...I think SP5m does not have touch screen.
BTW: window mobile and window mobile smartphone are totally different OS.

This is not an easy solution to your request, but I just upgraded my QTEK 8300 to the latest Imate SP5M ROM and noticed that under the COMM Manager one can "Stop Data Services" by moving the joy stick to the icon or hitting number "5". It immediately stops the Data Flow (at least the G) disappears in the header. Not sure it is really stopping Data because when I go to WiFi and open IE, the G reappears. Might be due to the way I have my Cingular connections set up. I'll experiement some more and re-post later. I like the new ROM, snappier, the radio is much better in that I get a much better signal where I'm at.
Here's how you disable GPRS/EDGE Auto connect!!
Start > Settings > Connections > Manage my connections > Then just point to the list item and hold down until the menu pop up and select delete. Do it to all the items there such as T-Mobile / AT&T or Winmodem..etc... after you deleted everything and you go back to the connections page you will see "Add a new modem connection" under My ISP. Do not delete anything under "My Work Network"... Hope this help.
You can use Modaco NoData to disable GPRS/EDGE =D
Have a nice day
hello, i just got the cruise.
i try to do a search but it always say i dont have enough characters
my problem is
the 3g icon is always trying to connect and i cna't figure out why..
is there a way just to select GSM? no 3g band at all?
please if any one knows.
its getting kind of annoying lol
What do you mean by trying to connect. Are you sure it's actually connecting and not just letting you know yo uare in a 3G coverage zone?
If you want to disable all 3G, then you can go to Settings | Phone | Band and set Network type to GSM. That will fix it to stay on Edge/GPRS/GSM.
But then it simply try to connect for data anywyas on 2.5G. You should try to find out what is trying to connect. Do you have a weather app that is syncing? An RSS reader that is retrieving news? Etc....Find that, disable that then it won';t matter if you are on 3G or not, it wont' try to establish a data connection.
It's probably the Weather section from the Today screen. You can turn auto-update off in the screen where you can select your city. There is a menu with the corresponding option.
You can surpress data connections using (for example) the MoDaCo NoData tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=76226&d=1205761083
or simply go to settings -> phone -> band -> select your network type: GSM
3G will no longer connect, and you can leave mail checking and weather updating on for Sync-connections or Wi-Fi
Is there a way to disable 3G? I don't use it and I know it used a lot of battery.
yes use advancedconfig
go to more settings to to comm manager and add the toggle to that
Alternatively, if you have the band tab enable in start>settings>phone>band, you can just choose "GSM" instead of "Auto" on the first drop-down list.

This works fine on my Fuze, but I would like to have the toggle in Comm Manager.
HOWEVER, when I use AdvancedConfig, the toggle shows up, but it (along with Data connection) is greyed out. Could anyone help? Thanks.
People should also note that setting it to 3G only ALSO saves a lot of battery. Not as much as 2G only, but it is definitely better than 2G+3G because only 1 radio is running instead of 2.
If your area is well covered with 3G and you use data a decent amount, I would recommend trying 3G only.
Disable all T-Mobile Dataplan radio activity?
I use my GSM phone with wifi only - I have no data plan.
Still, my phone looks for 2g and 3g connections when network activity happens and there is no Wifi connection.
Can I disable this behavior? Is there a way to disable both 2G and 3G, all cellular data activity - but still allow cellular phone activity so I can get calls in and out?
I have a 1.5 Cupcake-rooted-rom from haykuro (good stuff, BTW) ...
thanks,

Most chefs cook the option into the Com Manager. Check in there.
Thanks for the help
Disabled 3G by pressing the green phone button>Menu>Alternative...>Band (scroll down) and then select GSM rather than automatic!
Thanks for the help!
Just delete the connection settings from Start>Settings>Connections>Connections>Manage Existing Connections
No way for it to connect without settings
I've got an Xda Orbit 2, which I like. I use the wifi connection a lot, but would like the phone to default to wifi if it is available, instead of trying to make a data connection. Is this possible?I've seen this somewhere before, so apologies if it's been covered before.
TIA
Desmac
Go to settings -> connections -> connections... then tap header advanced... then press button choose network...
for both options choose company network...
now the device is not using other connections anymore...
now you can turn on your wifi... it establishes a connection as soon as there is one reachable...
Thanks, sinoo, I'll give that a try

Hi,
I've got an old htc diamond 2 with Energy Rom.
I changed Action Screen menu and link in registry.
I want know if possible create a botton that allows data connection on/off like there are wifi and bluetooth toggle bottons, to avoid go in the comm manager menu page to select or deselect data connection every time.
The Energy rom use "comm manager.exe".
Unfortunately in italy, "3" (telecommunications corporation) works in umts frequency to data connection and when there's not signal, it goes roaming to other company, change umts in gprs, so i can't stay on line forever otherwise I have a big bill.
Thank
Sorry for my english

it seems you need the application BandSwitch
Now JMLcomm.exe works so I have found what I want
Topaz does not provide a *.lnk file to
Windows\wrlsmgr.exe
Which does what you want!
TOGGLE ON/OFF -=[ WiFi - Bluetooth - Phone ]=-
I'm using it since I bought my phone. Plus I added an icon to it by creating this (ASCII) text file;
Code:
#54"\Windows\wrlsmgr.exe"?Windows\sktools_icons.dll,-276
sktools_icons.dll ???
S-K-Tools delivers their old icon set in a dll.
Download here; http://s-k-tools.com/sktools/sktools_icons.zip
Have fun,

Good info. Thank you.
Maybe you can try this. It's just to disconnect data but your device connect automatically if you start an application, so it can be enough.
