Polish Programmer Keyboard V2 (BETA) - G1 Android Development

Hi,
I have made available Polish Programmer Keyboard V2 in Market . To install search Market for "Polish Programmer Keyboard V2" (it is in Applications/Tool) or "Klawiatura Programisty" if you have Polish locale enabled in settings search Market (posting in Polsih about that applications should go to this forum).
For quick description see cyrket.
It provides on-screen right ALT to enter Polish characters as well it allows to use hardware keyboard right ALT (press ALT + polish letter and see it accented).
I am looking for friendly beta testers to work out kinks of implementation, interactions with Android IME Keyboard APIs are as much fun as programmin C, and to improve usability and documentation.
NOTE: to upgrade from previous you MUST select default Android keyboard first, then use Settings > Applicatins > Maanage Applications to remove "Polish Programmer Keyboard V2" and/or "com.example.inputmethod.popolsku" as Android sometimes is not able to properly upgrade/uninstall and lefts some package remnants (sizes will be very small). Only after successfully removing previous version (and that may require phone reboot) download and install new version form Market. If you do not follow this procedure update typically fails with INSTALL_FILE_UPDATE_ INCOMPATIBLE or similar "friendly" error

Would you like to share how you made this keyboard? I'm trying to make a norwegian version, and it would be great with some help.
The keyboard seemed to work fine except that it's not possible to change back to the standard keyboard without deactivating this keyboard. If I hold down ?123 and selects "Klawiatura Progrmisty" nothing happens.
edit: I found out now that if I long press on the input field, I can select Input method, and change back to the standard keyboard.

I used LatinIME from android git tree and modified so it does not use JNI (headache to install) and can be built under Eclipse. Then I added intercepting of hardware ALT and Shift to allow entering Polish characters.
Send me your email and I will send you zip of that Eclipse project.

It's working, but you should correct your first post - in market you have to search for "polska klawiatura programisty" because "polish programmer keyboard" doesn't bring up any results. If you need any details about how this application works you can always PM me.

the name of app in the market is locale dependent and it seems, unfortunately, that google will search only locale specific description so no english names if you are in Poland

Well, misunderstanding. I should've typed "if you need any feedback or comments on how does it work or what can you improve we can stay in touch".

It doesn't work on JF's 1.51 CRB43 ADP, also tried on Haykuro 6.0r1 Build and when attempting to install (trough Market) it says "Installation error / Incompatible update". Please help, its the only way to have polish input in modded builds.
I'm worried about the Hero build I hope that we'll get PL keyboard on it, but let's not worry at least for now.

It was working on the Dudes 1.1 and now 1.2 flawlessly.

I am very glad to say that I believe this is now fixed in the 1.0.2 version that I have just uploaded to Market Let me know if there are still problems.

What is Hero build and who is working on Polish keyboard? I would be glad to help.

The problem is, that there is noone working on that (as far as I know). If you want to know about the hero build you might want to check this thread out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517853

Does not work for me. It keeps on crashing.
I have downloaded the latest version from Android Market yesterday - November 30th, 2009. It installed clean. However when I enable Polish keyboard the application it just keeps on crashing.
I keep on getting the pop-up window: "SORRY! The application Polish Programmer Keyboard V2 (com.example.inputmethod.popolsku) has stopped undexpectly. Please try again" with [FORCE CLOSE] button at the bottom of the window.
Once you click the button the pop-up goes away but then it keeps on coming back when you work through the menus.
Some details about hardware/software:
HTC Dream by Rogers (32B)
Firmware: 1.5
Baseband version: 62.525.20.18U_3.22.20.17
Kernel version: 2.6.27-9af60ed4 [email protected] ) <-- I think he missed the left bracket in his kernel description string
Build number: 1.85.631.5 146733 CL#33863 release-keys

Could someone publish apk for users without android market? Or add it to some accessible appstore, like SlideME?

I like the work of richardtrip, but I think that the Nexus Froyo Rom has some useless Apps (like the Amazone MP3 one). Thats why, I have taken the ROM of richardtrip and modified it a bit.
The first releases will be only app modified, but later there'll be also theme modifications.
Rooted and ported Froyo ROM by richardtrip

Just flashed the ROM, coming from Modaco r3. The default android Keyboard kept on Force Closing on me.
You know, You can do the same stuff in recovery via adb?
Just delete the apks you dont need and push the ones you need. You dont need a special ROM for that, just a short tutorial.

My guess is, that he meant "recovery-YourOS.bat, with youros standing for your Operating System
Just take the recovery-windows.bat and you are fine.
BTW, had the same problem with the RC of the google.keyboard-stuff.
Somehow i managed to install SWYPE and since the the problem is gone.
However, I CANNOT BE CALLED!
If someone calls me, they just hear a busy tone.
I can make outgoing calls....very strange...
Does someone have the same problem?

[APP][Keyboard] Android 2.2 Keyboard! as seen on Cyanogen Nightly Builds

After lots of looking and time tearing apart Cyanogen's Roms I found the awesome Froyo keyboard, that expands up for numbers and such. I take no credit for this keyboard. Cyanogen got it from somewhere and I just pulled it from the rom.
Install Instructions:
1. Download the Apk file to your sd card
2. Locate and install it. It might ask you to uninstall or upgrade depending on what keyboards you have on your phone previously. I just uninstalled the previous keyboard and than installed this one.
3. Go into your settings and enable Android Keyboard
4. Open a text message and change the input method to Android Keyboard (Long key press on the message box)
Confirmed Working on:
OMJ All 2.2 versions
Damage Control V3.5
Ava-FroyoV3RevA
Fresh Evo 3.1.0.1 (not sure why people are having problems, works great for me)
Baked Snacks 1.2
Burnt Droid 1.0
Does not work on 2.1 (as far as I know) Testers would be nice

Thats something new in the 2.2 keyboard if you swipe up it gives you the numbers. Its suppose to make it easier but I find it harder then going to the number pad.

Any chance of the same "fixes" for the new capacitive YDPG18A model?

Buttons simultaneously in YDP-G18. Continue...
Hello, I bought a G18 v2, and to my surprise still problems with the buttons pressing simultaneously. Just like R1+X (fpse), or A+B (nitro in snes emulator) nothing happened. How can I solve this... Thanks...

People are saying the latest ICS for 18A no longer requires the gamemanager to set buttons. They are using Titanium to remove it.
The down side is that the emulator icons disappear (but not the apps, they can still be used normally). The icons return with a launcher. I use Holo.
You could remove all emulators too and insert Tiger ones.
Your custom ROM would be the only one for 18A and everybody would use it.
Thanks, Snake.
UPDATE: The new ICS is great. It even fixed my wifi. All emulators can be replaced.
I had to edit permission.xlm (or something) to allow writing saves in external sd, but it worked.
One good thing is that it comes with no chinese garbage. All english.

Huu I am interrested about this mod, I have the same issue to and this is very annoying ! :/
Using Root Explorer navigate to /system/etc/permissions/make sure filesystem is set to rw Open up platform.xml in the text editor look for the permission 'WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE' there will already be a permission group "sdcard_rw" but you will create a new group under that one.. so add <group gid="media_rw" /> save the file, reboot.

really, really weird... . i mean aside from the stock nuance lib(same as official swype) could be crashing on your device. i really can understand what made the reboot. i mean in my tests. when i was porting it. when crashed only the apk would crash, it wouldnt reboot.
so please if you can install again. then send me a logcat. i could take a look to see whats wrong and fix
This looks really promising, any progress? My main language is spanish and i would love to use this keyboard.
wait for ICS
Don't want to be pushy here, but any progress with this?

[APP] Google keyboard with dedicated number row, without PC additionnals keys

Hi everyone,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and a Galaxy Note 3 and I always liked the number dedicated row on the Samsung Keyboard but still liked the Google Keyboard more. My problem was that the obly way to get the dedicated number row on the Google Keyboard was to add Qwerty (PC) to the input style but I was stuck with additional keys wich made every keys 20% smaller...

I managed to edit the PC layout to make it the perfect keyvoard for me, with special characters like ! @ # $ with the number on wich it appears on a standard qwerty PC keyboard. I also had to move every special character. Here's my edited layout
To edit the APK yourself:
Decompile the APK (I used apktool)
Open the res>xml folder and edit the appropriate XML files so you have the perfect layout.
To edit the characters (to edit each rows...), see "rowkeys_qwerty1" or "rowkeys_pcqwery1" for example
To edit the rows (key widht, order, etc.) see "rows_qwerty" or "rows_pcqwerty"
* I had to edit the "symbol" layout also, to have it on 5 lines, and I had to enable it on the PC layout. I'll join all the files that was edited by myself so you can take a look
Recompile the APK (I also used apktool)
Open the recompiled APK and the original one. You'll need to move the edited files from the recompiled to the original APK. (You want to keep the original APK but have the edited XMLs for your layout)
Resign the APK (I used APK-Multi-Tool2 because "Autosign" wasn't working for me)
Install it and enjoy
I joined all the XML files I edited. You can take a look and use it as a start.
APK Link on the next post!
I hope you find it usefull, if you have any questions, I'll be there to help you out with your custom layout
NOTE: It seems that there is a problem that keeps it crashing, I'll try my best to solve the problem but to make it work, you have to use this workaround:
Having an other kb enabled (so you don't have any crash or problem)
- Go to the settings
- Click on "Text correction"
- Click on "Add-on dictionnaries
- If there's a green light next to "English" click on it and tap "Cancel
- Click again on English and click Install
You should be able to make it work in English now

Sorry for asking but the apk I downloaded "needs" to be decompiled for it to function? I ask because I received the downloaded apk, installed it yet it keeps crashing.
Again apologies if I'm not understanding your instructions properly.
Thank you,
Da Baron

The APK i provided is my personnal version of the keyboard with the layout you see on the second screenshot. It supposed to work as-is, as I'm using it now, but I'm using Lollipop. I used the keyboard version 4.1.22123.2053724, wich is supposed to be working on android v4.0 and up (API 14)
I'll be glad to help if you give a little more info (Android version, device/phone, etc)
(My instructions are to edit the APK yourself. I provided my APK if the layout is good for you )
Thanks
I have a Sprint rooted S6 Edge running a deodexed stock OH1 5.1.1 ROM. I uninstalled my Playstore Google keyboard then rebooted. Your apk installs w/o fail but once the keyboard is prompted when texting, emailing etc it crashes. Am I overlooking something?

Have you enabled the "PC" layout? In the keyboard setting -> 'appearance and layout'?? (The fourth choice) > Custom style > Enable Querty PC
**I'm using a french device so I do translate the menus, wich may be a little diffrents as yours
Would you be able to provide a crash log? (Apps like aLogCat or CrashLog may do the tricks!)
EDIT: I was able to reproduce the problem by switching to English (US) (I was using French Canada). I'll debug tonight and try to provide a fully working APK for you.
I cant install apk provided in OP, always get an error.

Make sure that you don't have a newer version of the keyboard. The APK I made use the keyboard V 4.1.22123.2053724 but the current version on the app market is newer (4.1.22124.2053724 or so, I think)
If so, uninstall the app before installing mine.
**Note that the APK I made currently don't work with English US keyboard. I didn't try any other keyboard thant French (Canada) and English (US). I'll try to make a new version soon

OK, I found a workaround. Reading my crash report, it seems that the google keyboard doesn't have access to download a dictionnary. You have to download it manually, then it will work.
I still don't know if there's a way to repair my APK, it may be a signature problem (Can the server check if it's a legit version and block the auto download??)
The workaround is:
Having an other keyboard enabled (so you don't have any crash or problem)
- Click on "Text correction"
- Click on "Add-on dictionnaries
- If there's a green light next to "English" click on it and tap "Cancel
- Click again on English and click Install
You should be able to make the keyboard work in English now
Let me know it that works for you!

can you elaborate your work with:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/lollipop-keyboard-phones-root-t2910268
It seems to be the same idea, I honestly have searched for 2 days before trying to edit the APK myself. I just wanted to share how I did as I was not finding informations. I'll try to use a previous version of the keyboard, to see if it fix the dictionnary problem!
Thanks for the link, I will read more about it!
Very useful, thanks for sharing
How can i resign this apk so that it doesn't conflict with the built-in Google Keyboard on my phone?
Please update for Google Keyboard 4.1.2622203. Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply. If you edit the package name in the AndroidManifest.xml you should be able to keep both version.
Code:
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" coreApp="true" package="[B]com.android.inputmethod.latin[/B]" platformBuildVersionCode="21" platformBuildVersionName="5.0-1512834">
Edit the "com.android.inputmethod.latin" to something else.

The updated APK with Version 4.1.262203 actually crash whatever I do. I'll try to investigate it and will try to update it ASAP but it's the actual reason why my APK wasn't based on the lastest keyboard bersion at the moment I did it
Thanks for your support
