Diamond2/ Updating .net framework? - General Questions and Answers

I have been trying to trun a few apps like BeMario, and LightSaber etc, bother requiring .NET Compact Framework.
here is the details from the diamond2;
Error
BeMario.exe
MissingMethodException
The Application requires a newer version of the Microsfotr .NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device.
I have downloaded what i though to be the framework, but it is all windows installers in .msi packages. I have tried this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...49-3C6B-42F1-9FD9-0041345B3385&displaylang=en and the 2.0, but both are for Windows desktop, rather than mobile. I'm confused on how to update now.
Cheers for help

You probably need .net 3.5 on your phone.
Try installing from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373721

The
.NET Compact Framework 3.5 need for development.
Hello,
you wrote, i need .NET Compact Framework 3.5 for development?
But the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 has 3,5MB
and the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable has 33,3MB?
Sorry, but are you sure, that i need the Redistributable to install on my Phone, because there an a different in the Filesize and so a diffrent for my Diskspace on my Phone ;o)
Thanks
The redistributable package contains many other files, including the .NET SDK, various installers for different Pocket PC versions, etc. But only the files necessary for your phone will be installed (assuming you already have ActiveSync or Device Center installed/set up). I believe the .cab itself was about 2,6MB.
if it's a windows install then redistributable means that
it include everything it needs where the non redistributable
means that it downloads the files it needs during the install
redistributable is required if one want to install on a computer
which is not connected to the Internet
Thank you all for the answers!!!
My questinon is now responsed.
Thanks and by

Cannot install MS .net Compact framework 3.5, using a custom rom reason why?

I can not install the 3.5 cf on my TP. Was wondering if this was due to running a custom rom. Any suggestions. It goes through the install process on my phone then pops up with this error:
Installation Error. Stop all applications and processes, maximize all available storage space, and run installation again. Support info: 3.
Any help is appreciated.
Perhaps it's already installed in the custom ROM?

If you are using a cook rom, Its more the 100% true that this rom has nf3.5 allready. So if the install fails you already have 3.5
You can use the .NET Configuration Tool which can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373721
It will tell you which version of .NET is installed on your device.
I have had a similar problem, I in-fact did have 3.5 pre-installed but the program wanted specifically v2.0 for some strange reason. I just didn't install but now I am curious as my understanding is that the v3.5 and any version for that matter is inclusive of previous versions. Anyone care to shed some light?

As far as i know, net. 3.5 is not an "update" to net 2.0, you have to install both, if a prog needs 2.0 and you already have 3.5
in a registry key i can see that i ve both versions installed

Erm, 3.5 does in fact support previous versions of .net cf without requiring them installed..
From the belly of the beast
The Microsoft® .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable contains the common language runtime and class libraries built for the .NET Compact Framework. In addition to version 3.5 support, it also supports applications developed for version 1.0 and 2.0. The .NET Compact Framework 3.5 provides new features such as Windows Communication Foundation, LINQ, SoundPlayer, new runtime tool support, and many other features.

Indeed. The issue is that some installers check for installed .NET CF versions incorrectly, so when they don't see 2.0 on the device, they automatically fail the whole installation.
This should not be compared to the way the desktop .NET Framework functions, because the two have some very significant differences.
This will do the trick.
Much info about .net compact framework 3.5

Microsoft framework outdated?...help please

I have tried putting applications such as gyrator and advance config on my touch pro, but after it downloads, when i try to open it, i get an error message saying that it requires a newer version of Microsoft Framework. I downloaded version 2, or 3.5, i cant remeber, and it said that " a newer version that already exists on the phone would have to be deleted".
If i have a newer version than the one i tried installing, but is too old for apps such as advanced config, then what do i need? or what do i do?
any help would mean the world to .. really
thanks
you need compact framework 3.5
google for it, or look @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446306

Need to dwnload .net framewrk 3.5 to htc touc

I downloaded .net framework 3.5 to my htc touch so I can run the advanced configuration .exe that I found on touchxperience. When I tried to install the .net framework 3.5 the error msg said it was not a pocket pc application. I used the activesync through my pc, the .net framework 3.5 downloaded to my pc and the htc touch, it just wouldn't let me install. also, the advanced configuration error msg states that the htc touchs' .net 2.0 is not sufficient to install the utility.
Run the exe from your desktop pc not through your device
as corpse said already you have to run the exe from your computer.
Setup exe are run from the computer and your computer copies a cab file to your ppc (through activesync) and installs it on your ppc.
netcf runtimes
do u guys have a ready .cab file of netcf runtime. i cant use activesync on my vista pc and i cant use also the built in activesync of vista. it only sync using media player. it was not detected when i install the software
Please install first WINDOWS MOBILE DEVICE CENTER - that is the VISTA VERSION of ACTIVE SYNC.
Afterwards download the .NET COMPACT FRAMEWORK 3.5 REDISTRIBUTABLE from this link - READ THE INSTRUCTIONS in the OVERVIEW SECTION on that page carefully !!!
You can download the cab for net cf 3.5 here

i've installed rom from here

Start File Explorer. Browse to \Windows\CGAUTIL.EXE and run it.
It will list all versions of the .NET CF framework installed on your device. Every Smartphone or PPC already has one version of the .NET CF in ROM.
Post the image of that.
\Windows\CGAUTIL.EXE

no such file available
Sorry, should be \WINDOWS\CGACUTIL.EXE
no such file available
i even tried to search
may be because i am using a non official ROM
should i try to flash another ROM?
You may have to flash another ROM to cure it. As a rough guide, .Net CF 1/1.1 was in WM2003/SE, 2.0 was in WinMo 5.0 , 3.0 was in WinMo 6.0 and 3.5 appears in WinMo 6.5.
They are 'supposed' to be backwardly compatible, but there are a lot of ifs and buts. I have .NET CF 1.1 programs that run quite happily on later versions, but I might have been just plain lucky!
also if the file is hidden explore may not show it try using a better file manager like total commander or reso
all right got it
it was hidden i guess so
thnx Rudegar for your comment
OK here is the screenshot for the

That message says that you already have .NET CF 3.5 installed on your device. The numbers following the 3.5 are build numbers, used by installations to detect later versions etc, hence the original message when you tried to install 3.5 above.
As mentioned earlier all devices have one .NET CF version already installed in the ROM.
It should work, even with programs created against previous versions, but, as I said, it is not an exact science. I'll see if I can come up with anything.
What .NET apps are you trying to run and what is the error/problem they present?
thnx stephj for your reply

Right, this could be one of the weird things mentioned above.
The GENE was originally a WM 5.0 .NET CF 2.0 device. It appears the ROM you have flashed has .NET CF 3.5 installed in it as a minimum, preventing the retro installation of .NET CF 2.0, which is a stated requirement of the BTMusic software. It should work under 3.5, but maybe it's one of those that won't.
It may be considered a retrograde step, but it may be necessary to reflash the original ROM, in order to get it to work, or hang around until the software gets upgraded to .NET CF 3.5
Either of them are hardly ideal solutions.............
Anybody else any good ideas?...................
i hope i'll have to reinstall another OS lol
