battery life? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

i just got a Fuze and I love everything about it except one thing...battery life. I have been looking a round and alot of people are saying that flashing a new radio can almost double the life. Im getting about 7 hours out of it right now and im not at my desk that often to charge it. my question is, can I flash a new radio and keep the stock rom? i have no complaints about the Rom its self im just looking for better battery life and im pretty new to the flashing so i would rather keep it to a minimum.

There are a few things you can do.....
Download Advance Config, and turn on all the battery options in there.
If you don't use 3G, turn it on EDGE.
To flash a new radio while staying on the stock rom, you must have Hard-SPL, it is recommended that you have the matching rilphone.dll installed too.

ill look into the advanced config, also one lats question. How can you get background images on all the tabs, i found a cab to do it but i guess it was for the diamond and it keeps screwing up my clock on the home tab.

The best way to improve battery life what I found is to increase the poll interval of the battery. This means that your phone isn't checking the battery status as before.
Grab a reg editor (phm regedit or total commander will do) and go to HKEY_LOCAL _MACHINE\drivers\builtin\battery and create a dword value named PollInterval with the value 20000. This means the phone will only check the battery every 20 seconds instead of constantly.
Good luck.

I have a Fuze, and the battery life is just fine for me running the leaked AT&T rom. Had the phone since it came out, no problems, i get a full day out of it easily, only charging it when i need to before working out
The biggest thing to me that almost doubled my battery life though, is reducing the email checking interval. When i had set my gmail account to check for emails every 10 minutes, i was getting less than a day.
I have it set to check every 5 hours, and download my RSS feeds (40 feeds) every 9 hours.
Battery life is way better than what i had for my Cingular 8525 (TYTN).
Another suggestion - keep the phone from getting too warm, like in your pocket or in a hot car. Heat speeds up the chemical reaction in your battery and reduces battery life.
Let me know if that helps!

well I took a leap and flashed the energyseries 2 ROM and the newest Raphael radio and so far seems like a good combo,I'm not draining 15% a hour anymore.

Battery Life Diminishes with Cooked ROMs

Hello all,
I was wondering if there are any other S710 users who have been experiencing battery issues with the HTC Vox.
For a while I was running Dr. Gonzo's Guava Rom and everything was great with it all except for the battery life. I didn't pay much attention to it, but it finally got on my nerves. It came to the point where I could only use the phone for around 14-16 hours under moderate use and wifi+bt OFF after a full charge.
Today, I flashed the VOX with fireburned CLEAN v1.2. and it seems to be the same. I don't recall having this issue with the Official ROM.
Battery issue? any ideas? I dont want to spend money on an extended battery if it is a software issue.
Much appreciated!
It seems same to me too. I flashed not less than 20 ROMs in my VOX's use of nine months and I found that my battery slowly got weakened and was going only for 14 15 hours without too much use. Practically I had to buy a fresh battery from www.megacapacity.com. It arrived yesterday and serving me about 1.5 days for normal use. It is 1100mah in place of 1050mah original but is of std size.
Opinion of other users invited.
Did not notice anything as such. My Vox is nearly 1 Year 4 months old. So I am not expecting much from it.
Because during my initial flashing, I never had any noticeable battery performance issues. I have flashed almost all ROMs of Dr. G's, a couple of fh's and 3 of fireburned's ROM, about to flash with the 4th
I've had my phone for approximately the same amount of time and I've only flashed it probably 4-5 times in total.
Perhaps I shall look into getting a new battery as well...I want to be able to use Wifi normally without losing the phone halfway through the day.

I think you may have a hardware issue (not sure though). When I am not travelling, my phones battery at the end of the day shows more or less 60% charge left. I use flexmail to check my mails every hour. If there is any mail worth reading, then I use i.e. to check mails. So I think you can consider it moderate GPRS usage, plus there are of course voice calls . Though I do not use wifi or BT.
If you plan to buy a new battery though, I think it will be better if you go for an extended battery.
I read in another topic that it's somehow related to the Radio version.

Parthabhatta, what were shipping charges to india? how much is the total cost? How much time does it take in delivery?
i am looking to buy a new one same 1100mAh.
Because im new with Vox in generally can someone tell me what should be aproximated battery life with vox? (NO wifi, NO bt, 1-2h/day using normal phone calling)
What could be normal battery life with TCPMP and movie divx 320x240 256kbit ?
Everyone seems to have great battery life, so I wouldn't be the person to tell you what the average battery life is.
I just tested out the battery life this morning. 100% charged and i turned on Wifi to use. 45 minutes later, my phone dies.
So I get less than an hour of power on Wifi. I don't think that seems like a battery problem. Using it normally, gives me at least 14-15 hours+ (no wifi/no bt).
Perhaps its a hardware bug? Software bug? Any input is appreciated.

Hi gwmnx!
The same problem i have to, my battery life is very poor , maxim 10- 12 hours(no wifi/no bt), without browsing internet or other else and battery dies.
I buy a new battery, and exact same problem with it, in maximum 14 hours is finished
I was in a service , and they verify my batterys, and they told me the batterys is very good both.
And probably the phone have a hardware issue , but they don't know to repare it because they don't have a electronic schematic of my phone
I tested 3 ROM's by now, but nothing is change, with every ROM, same problem.
I don't know what to do and what to say, i'm very disappointed
Excuse me for bad English , i don't speak very well!
Same issue i am facing here. My phone battery dies in 10-12 hours. Don't know if it happens due to lot of ROM upgrades everyday or using overclocking...
I am going to purchase a new battery soon. If that also works same, i will revert to original VOX 6.0 ROM. No overlcoking, no R&D, no research no development further because you need to compromise with hardware malfuntioning, damages etc against this kind of R&D.

I bought my battery for 15.5$. Shipping is free worldwide on all items. It reached me in 16 days. It is now giving me 1.5 to 2 days on fireburned 1.2 ROM.
For a change, you just change the homescreen from sliding to anything like windows default. And make normal usage. I'm dead sure you'll get better results even if you're in Rose ROM. I mean, you'll get better battery performance if you're not in sliding homescreen.
I'm using Fireburned's 1.2 version ROM.
Thanks

How does the sliding panel attribute to 45 minutes of wifi usage. I'm not even on the homescreen, just using the web browser?
I mean, I think it might be a definite reason since I only started noticing poor battery life after 6.1. With the original Vox WM6.0, I definitely had better battery life.
there are some roms that kills the battery life to around half or more. like gonzo's latest rose rom.

Sorry skchattha! its for 18.5$and not 15.5$ (actually 15.5$ was for my nokia battery). I confused. Just go to the site and it will be clear. Actually I was charged Rs.948.00 in IndiaN Rupee.

Great man! Rs.948 is still cheaper, HTC service centre rates are Rs1390.
What do you mean by Extended battery? Any difference from normal battery?
And what about 2250mAh battery, does it fit fine or looks odd?
2250 mAh is the extended battery. I didnot buy although it was comparatively cheaper because to me it will not only look odd but make the phone bulky and heavier too. But now i feel that 2250 would have been a better choice as i am an avid gprs user. Now think and buy- difference of only 2.5/3 USD.

Well, being in browser doesn't mean your homescreen is off. Sliding panel itself consumes lots of battery. Just change your homescreen from settings to something else not related to sliding panel or Rose Homescreen. For a change just change it back to windows default. let it be changed for a day (You won't loose anything). I strongly believe there would be some difference in battery consumption and consumption will be lesser.
Thanks
Extended Battery really looks too odd. it looks like you've added another battery

[Q] How can you make the battery last longer??

Is there a tweak out there that stops the stupid battery from guzzling? Im tired of charing it constantly and I swear it takes hours and hours to charge it back to full power. The thing cant last longer than a day without loosing power I cant stand it. Whats making it use all that power? I thought maybe if I switch wireless it would help but I didnt notice a difference.
I can get 2 days out of my battery.
I let it drain to 1% and then stick it on charge over night. When i get up the battery will be at 100% and then 30 minutes later down to 90% but it settles down after that.
I do not have wifi and bluetooth on all the time, just when I need to.

I don't understand people telling battery lost for 2 days..... even if we keep phone idle it will lose power in 24 hrs i believe....try like this try to use ROM with out manila & with manila once you will know the difference other than that there is some tips to save battery in Energy ROM thread in 3 rd 0r 4th post ..
4 days normal usage.
Manila2, GSM
15 minutes call, 6~10 text message, sync exchange, 30 minute ebook reading per day
If I build rom myself from the kitchen. It usually runs for 2-3 days.
However, in most cases when I try decent cooked ROM, for example, Energy - battery drains in about 5 hours. That's been the case with other cooked roms as well.
I suspect that some popular configuration change done by cooks causes battery to drain in certain environments. Would be nice to find out which change is that.
Processes and services often place a strain on the life of the battery; add to the mix a buggy service or application that further shortens battery life and one has an unusable device.
Another habit that can shorten Li-ON battery life is full discharges - near 0%. One of the members put out a thread a while back on research he/she had done on batteries - worth the read if you haven't already.
Cheers,

I just had the same experience, cooked for the first time and my battery was better than it has ever been!
Since then I have flashed to RRE 21731 6.3 and it seems my battery has stayed the same (Brilliant, 2 Days no problem).
The only thing ive done differently is I have used the new UK Voda rom as my Stock Rom that i flash before flashing custom, and i believe this may have something to do with it...What, I don't Know.
I also believe changing the Radio After a flash can affect battery life, I always try to flash a new radio before a Custom rom.
I have wondered for some time wether the European Touch Pro is slightly different to the US Fuze in its hardware, Since most Cooked Roms are configured for the Fuze maybe that is what it is?
maybe we will find out..One Day
turn off 3G and you will get much better battery.
Get a Blackberry Bold. My phone has been on for 2 days, sent around 150 texts, got in 150, I'm at 85%

That will ****-up your battery, you should never let it drain to 1%, just charge it when you have the time, preferably before it drains to about 20%.
I guess it all depends on the eye of the beholder, I come from the Diamond part of XDA, and we are lucky to get 24 hours on the Diam.
I was happpyyyyy with my new TP battery life -compared to Diam that is-
But ya, turning of 3g and being picky about processes and back light helps.
Greets to all.
Search the development and Hacking thread for Windows Long Life/save your gonads. Chainfire is developing a neat application to automatically switch from 3G when not needed. I tried an early version and it seemed to significantly increase my battery life.
Check my sig....it tells you how to deal with Li-ion batteries...
battery stuff on my site
Check out chapter 17. I cover this pretty thoroughly.

An app that may help is Advanced Task manager, it has a widget to end all running processes/tasks which i tap before putting mine to sleep about 1000+ times a day it seems. go in and exclude ones you may want to exclude always and then its as simple as 1 click. as everyone else said, no gps,wifi,3g when not 100% necessary. also, get widget "toggle disply" from rounded labs and keep your screen completely dim (not like you can't see it...), being able to make it bright when you step outdoors. Also, toggle backlight app for root users keeps the pesky keyboard backlight off when you don't want it on (suggest making keyboard shortcut for quick toggle). last but not least because i'm sure theres plenty more, but yesterday i switched to cyanogen's newest stable ROM and it seems to be much more effective than any other i have tried in the means of saving battery life. had wifi on after a 98% charge for about an hour and a half (30mn usage) and it only went down to 91%... wow. "and that's all, i have to say, about tha-aat"- Forrest Gump
Firstly I don't think this is the right sub-forum for this question since it's not a specific ROM question.
Secondly, try nueDynamicClock, if you use the right settings, you'll extend your batt life by at least 1/2 a day if not more.

It's really very simple. Flash an awesome rom, and the battery burns and burns. Flash a rom you hate, and the battery lasts forever. Don't over-think it.
hi guys.
i was eager to start up this discussion and am glad to find it here itself.
even am really finiky about battery.
tried alot of thing but cudnt find any spcl tweaks.
though i came across some registries from advanced config and other wise also but they seem to be more worse.
;IMPROVE BATTERY PERFORMANCE
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AsyncMac1\Parms]
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Irsir1\Parms]
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\PPTP1\Parms]
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\L2TP1\Parms]
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0
when i use these tweaks the power consumption of my rom reached to 4.112 volts(as per power detect) which otherwise without these tweaks is 3.992 at startup.
more power consumption i guess means less battery i guess.
and even if its not still these tweaks as per my usage show bad results.
why so?
and arnt there spcl application which can detect the packages which might consume more battery, as i have over 50 packages in my rom and it'll hell to check which eats more.
Some tweaks I do
I have also found for me that disabling these things in advanced config also helps.
Performances
> File System cache: Disabled
> File System filter cache: Disabled
> Glyph Cache: 32kb (advised) I'm not sure if disabling this one is a good idea. I like having a little bit of glyph cache on my device.
Light senor
> Light sensor polling: Disabled.
*Note: If you want to still have light sensor on (this means the auto backlight feature) I would set the:
> Light sensor polling interval: 2000. This will make it poll every 2 seconds instead of every .2 seconds. I would even try setting it to 5000.
The backlight will make a huge difference on how long you battery will last. The brighter it is the more the battery needs to light up that screen. If you turn off the polling all together it will make the battery last longer.
Also running fancy UI apps will also deplete the battery more. Just common sense really as another poster alluded to earlier. The more things you have running and sucking up memory the more battery it will consume. If you disable TF3D or other apps such as this you will get your battery to last longer. Given that these devices are meant to have these types of programs on them you will have to weigh the options of how much you really want to "tone down" your devices to get the most out of your battery.
Also different radios will cause you battery to last longer. I suggest to everybody that they try different radios to see which ones last longer. Also people who live on the edge of 3G and EDGE area will cause the battery to drain faster as it constantly switches in and out of 3G coverage.
WMLongLife is a great app if you don't need 3G while you phone is just sitting in you pocket. It works great for me and when I want to use 3G I simply launch opera and the program will automatically enable 3G once again.
There are many things that you can do to improve your battery life. I encourage everybody to find what is best for them given what they use there device for and try and test things out. The best way to tell which works best for you is to simply try it out for yourself.
**NOTE** I also set all ROMs that I flash with a page pool of 0. I don't know if this has any real effect on battery life but it does seem to make my battery last a little bit longer. Not sure if this is a placebo affect though.

How long does your battery last?

Hello friends, I currently have a fuze flashed with NRG's latest EnergyROM and I can only push about 5 hrs of heavy use or 8hrs of light use.
Light use consists of:
150 Text messages,
Email every 15 minutes,
3G Turned off
20 Minutes total talk time (Not even sometimes)
Windows Live Messenger online (not the whole day, just a couple hours) and maybe having a 20 minute IM conversation.
Heavy use consists off:
Music Playing
Heavy Texting (300 or more texts)
Screen on most of the time
Most use on EDGE
Browse a couple websites
Maybe some youtube on 3G
I have uninstalled Gyrator to get better life.
I have flashed many ROMs and I this is the best I can get to. How is your experiences? I'm willing to flash 6.1 or 6.5. Let me know what works for you with ROM + Radio + Rilphone combo you have. Thanks!
Everything depends on the rom u have installed. Try this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=528217

My battery lasts about 2 days if I don't use the phone heavily but I think that if you squeeze a day out of your Pro with heavy use as you mentioned, you can be glad...
Most of the smartphones use a lot of battery in case of heavy use....
my stock battery lasts me something like 24 hours with medium use. battery life is very radio/rom/charge pattern dependant.

Right, but even with the slightest use I can only squeeze no more than 10 hrs. I tried every lots of combos with radio and ROMs. NATF 4.7 and Elite RC4 was pretty good enough but I want WM 6.5. Im gonna try the radio you have on your sig just for the heck of it and an almost empty ROM to see what I can accomplish.
Thank you everyone
ya i made sure to match up rilphone
Put it like this... im running Energyrom and I took my phone off the charger at 7 am EST. Right now it's 10:10 EST and I'm down to almost 65% already. That's with Beejive, Seven email with 3 accounts and about 10-15 texts. If I didnt like the rom so much I wouldve dumped it long ago but I just suffer and carry a charger with me.

I have been able to reduce the battery consumption to almost zero on stand by. But it uses 1-2% per minute on Wifi or GPS use. Infact it gets drained fater than it gets charged if GPS is used connected to car charger, with data and WiFi off.
My only gripe is that it gets drained fater than it charges on car charger when GPS is ON.

If this is light use, then I am Osama bin Laden. 150 messages, WLM and IM means that your display is on most of the time (while reading and replying), and display is one of the great consumers of the battery. Also, the fact that your checking email so often, and you're on internet through IM and WLM, means that you're online practically all the time. Internet is the greatest battery killer, btw. Anyway, I would recommend you to use the stock ROM because the battery lasts longer than majority of custom ROMs, and if don't want that, you shouldn't use 6.5 OS - it's a battery hog at this time. Also, lower your backlight, set in power settings "Turn off the device after 1 minute" and do a search on this forum about more battery saving tips.

I know the brightness is a total killer. Last year I had 15 phones... My SIM card is so beat up that it looks like a dog chewed on it. I know all the battery saving tips. I just can't make it work. I do not constantly check WLM. Just once maybe a half hour but I do not IM. I just leave it on. The blackjack II lasts me a whole day from 7 to 12 with email, WLM, major texting, browsing the web and more. I'm not comparing the 2 but the battery life REALLY sucks on this thing. Stock ROM is too slow and useless for my taste. I'm flashing timlol's like-stock ROM to see. The Dynasty ROM really has good battery life but its too buggy. Man I sound so pessimistic. Lol. You don't have to check WLM or IM all the time, it's enough that you are connected to web all the time. Blackjack II has a 2,4" display wioth 320x240 resolution, & Raphael 2,8", 480x640. HTC could've integrate bigger battery, but then our Raphael would be a fat piggy phone.
Btw., Timolol's ROM is pretty stable & good on battery - good choice.
dont forget batteries aren't meant to be permanent. they are consumables!
After 1 year of normal usage you should notice the battery isn't quite what it used to be. after 2 years, it will seem like it needs more charges then it did before.
After 3 years and longer, IMO, its just time to replace the battery.
I replace by laptop battery every 2 years (same chemistry as my cellphone battery), and each time I am shocked and how bad the old one was.
New is always better in the case of batteries.
My next point is that HEAT is the main enemy to any battery. Keeping the phone in your pocket or hot car is worse then in a purse or on a table.
Aside from that, theres a ton of good info above about lowering the drain on the battery and therefore increasing its useful life.

Well unfortunately, I must keep my phone inside my pocket or in a case most of the time since I go to school and I do not want the teachers on my case. And looks like the rapahel likes to run a little hot and I'm really scared for my battery. But at least I have two (one from my old Fuze which only lasted me a month since i broke it :-( )
But yeah, my phone gets warm sometimes, and its with most radios. Some more than others but even with matching rilphone. Not sure what thats all about...
About half a day or so, but that's with me listening to music most of the day and EDGE with Exchange Activesync on.
I used to have crazy battery drain. RRE I got 5 hours tops with 3g on and a bit of internet and texting. NRG synergy rom I got 8-10 hours in GSM mode only with 1 hour of internet and a hand ful of texts.
I just flashed my radio to 1.14.25.05 and flashed the new warhawk NRG rom and I took my phone off the charger at 945am and its currently 5pm and Ive been texting most of the day with 3g on and Im currently at 82% battery. All settings are just as they are set right out the box with a freshly flashed warhawk rom.

HTC Touch Pro Battery

I have a htc touch pro (sprint) and i love this phone, its amazing i love everything but the battery. It seems to last about 8 hours even when im not using it heavy. Is this normal (i hope not), or just maybe my battery? Any suggestions?
My Fuze lasts about that long in sleep mode too... Not sleep mode all day, I do use it to text and surf the web once in a while.
I think it's normal, but I don't know...
I'm on the Tael Sense ROM
.

when your done with the phone press the power button to lock the phoen this greatly improves battery life turn off wi-fi turn brightness down to half way and select display timeout to 10 second and display sleep to 30 seconds also dont have alot of programs running it the back ground when your done with them close them report back if it helps also do you have any apps or your e-mail that constantly use data? if so switch ti to update ever 15 minutes or more
do you have new battery.....? i have used one , so i have exact same problem...but i will try with new one...
also battery caalibration can help you..to improve performannce of battery.....
I also have the same problem ,can somebody doin something...
This is not normal, if you are on custom ROMs make sure you have installed a matching rilphone.dll (plenty of info on this via search)
Also battery calibation is a big concern after flashing custom roms, I always make sure my battery is 100% charged before flashing as from experience found calibration goes a bit off if you have battery partly charged between 50% to 100% & can be a pain to correct. Read Energys notes in any of his ROM threads on battery calibration.
Also on custom ROMs hard reseting after initial setup is good practice & recommended by most chefs.
Last option is you need new battery.

This thread is useless if you don't give us any more info. 1. Are you using a stock ROM or a custom one (cdma, since you have Sprint)? 2. What do you mean by '8 hours'? Do you mean that from 9-5, with the phone in standby, it fully drains the battery? Or do you mean 8 hours of uptime (the phone turned on, and using it)? If it's 8 hours of use, that's not terrible, depending on what you're doing. That's a current draw of 168 mA, which is about what I get if I'm listening to music on tcpmp. It's also about the same as having the screen set to 10 (full brightness) and just having it turned on.
If you want actual help for your situation instead of generalities, you need to supply the following info:
ROM
Lockscreen (custom or standard)
Processes running most of the time
Bluetooth on/off a lot of the time?
Wifi on a lot?
3G?
Schedule for syncing email and crap like that
Custom UI?
Do you use the accelerometer a lot?
You may be doing some things that will burn the battery, but there's no way for anyone to know if you don't tell us how you use the device. The easiest thing to do is get tbattery.exe and log your battery usage to find out what is killing it (if it really is burning too fast). There are also other similar apps out there.

how long does your battery last

first thread.
im using energy rom, the battery dies in a day.
anything i can do to make it last longer?
thanks in advance.
dim your brightness
there are lots of things you can do, dim the brightness is one (turn off automatic adjustment of the brightness too, so it stays dim)
make sure any pop3 email isnt checking too often
turn off push mail
there are some hardware disable cabs i used on mine, i dont remember the link but they are from ninjaduck on ppcgeeks
use NRG's service disable cabs to turn off background services you dont need
although even after all this mine still only lasts about a day, but its ok for me since it docks on a charger every night
one more thing to keep in mind, CDMA phones will always have shorter battery life than their GSM counterparts, since CDMA phones have to keep in constant contact with the tower (so the radio is always in use)
I've used to rum sprint stock rom and my battery lasted me only a day if even that. But now, I'm running my own clean and simple 6.5 no manilla rom and my battery last last like 3 days.
Definitly backlight adjustments will help. Also there is a setting under the WIFI, for Performance which made some diference on mine. The big thing is to make sure: Bluetooth is off when not in use, because it'll search non stop, same thing with WIFI, keep it off, when not in use. And the big thing I did, I switched my email, to check every 2hrs, rather than on demand. I went from 4-6hrs to an easy 10hrs. Hope something helps!
Also, when I'm using apps like Trapster, or a radio streamer, you obviosly need to keep the "system" on, which includes your screen, And when I started using a Screen Off App, I noticed a pretty big diference.
what is simple 6.5

I got this phone from someone, and it has manilla of some sort, what kind of rom do you have? where did you get it from?
Thanks
I built it myself using Calkulins kitchen. Is your TP2 HSPL unlocked? If so, I may be able to upload it for you so you can download it, PM me
Since OC'ing my device, I have been getting 2-3 days per charge using the stock Verizon MR2 release. Others who have OC'd have noticed the same thing. Check the OC threads both here (where it all starts) and on PPCGeeks (where we talk about what we find on XDA).
Stock Sprint ROM. Seidio 3500MAH Battery. 3G always on. Surf over 3 hours a day, make quite a few calls, signal in both my work location and home are not that great, so phone looks for a signal a lot, and Stream video from time to time. Doing this, the battery still lasts about 8 to 10 hours. My wifes phone has a stock battery and lasts about 9 hours without doing all of what I do on mine. Her battery sometimes is down to 10% or less. Mine never gets under 25%. If I am streaming from my SlingBox, I can get about 3.75Hours out of my battery.
Improved Battery Life!

Similar experience for me. After OC'ing my stock 6.5 MR2 VzW TP2 with OCT v1.5, turning off push email and push internet, etc., I can get 2 days most of the time.
