New Wikipedia mobile feature - General Topics

Many of you probably use oldish Wapedia or awful mobile.wikipedia.org, but Wikipedia recently silently released new, improved mobile rendering - using it is simple, just insert "m" after the language, e.g.:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/ - note the "m" added
(this will give you mobile version of today's English http://en.wikipedia.org/)
you can Google any wikipedia article and just add "m" to make it mobile, pics inside, but rendering is compatible to small screens.
Good luck saving that bandwidth!

oooooooooooo thanks
I actually use wikipedia all day long.

Cool
I was useing wikipedia today and like that site a lot!

Thx a lot! Great!

Have you guys checked out vtap? Go to m.vtap.com on your device and download the app.. It allows you to search and play videos from several different sites (not only youtube) and also has a wikipedia search that splits the wikipedia artictle into sections.
Very useful.

Thanks. Very nice find indeed. I'm a big wikipedia user.

wikipedia is one of my favourite one so good to hear about wikipedia.i am frequently used wikipedia ..thanks

it is strange how good this solution is, but I do not know how the feature is named, it is not advertised anywhere and only few people know about it - sad, as it works great!

Great this new mobile wikipedia version is really great and i was not knowing that about this before.
I am definitely going to try it...

This silent Wikipedia rendering enhancement targets a particular phone (guess which, it's name starts with i). If you change your browser user agent to the one of this particular phone, that is "Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A543 Safari/419.3", the "m" rendering kicks in automatically.

it is finally official: http://wikitech.wikimedia.org/view/Mobile

by using links, we re snatching product for iphone/android, but works great on WM

New, 4.9.5 version of free audio player WinVibe released!

It was only some days ago that I’ve published the review of the (relatively; it’s been known for “only” a year) new audio player WinVibe (also frontpaged on AximSite). Now, a new version, 4.9.5, has been released.

Unfortunately, the most acute problems (lack of WMA support and high CPU usage) haven’t been fixed in this version. That is, if you want something NOT chewing through our battery quickly, look for elsewhere. (See this article for more info on this very question.)
Direct download links: QVGA VGA; the blog homepage of the project is here. Visiting the latter is recommended; I particularly recommend the “Skins” category – the additional, custom skins are pretty cool.

Thanks for this! PocketMusic is pretty lame (even in Winamp mode), and WMP doesn't really make effective use of screen space. This looks like a good Winamp-style player tuned for a handheld.
nice app
thank you for the review !
This is a nice app.
I would have enjoyed a bigger button, but the hardware button mapping is helpfull.
cheers !

Alreader settings

Im trying to set up UC on my Raph, i read quite a bit using Alreader.
I dont think it stores any settings in the registry so im guessing they're stored in one of the .ini files
nothin said:
it is BEST ebook reader so far for me.
of course, someone will say booo ubook is better, maybe, but it is MUCH slower and MUCH heavier...and FAR less configurable. alreader is VERY compact program with massive amount of options, hyphenation etc(look inside rar).
it has profiles, that can be switched with...BUTTON - in fact, VERY much things can be mapped to buttons..
btw, there's NOTHING better to read .doc files(lol @ ubook in that matter, just LOL) - awesome loading times.
alreader is in english, here's rar:
http://www.mm.pl/~xoen/AlReader0131.rar
it is able to use many codepages, so far i tested russian, polish, english ebooks.

what's VERY interestin that it can handle html pages too:
imo, it is best thing you can use in ROM kitchens.
my OEMpack(preconfigured 2 profiles etc):
http://www.mm.pl/~xoen/!xoalread.rar
only thing is for sure: it may take some time to get around options. some of them are available when file is opened(it may be strange for someone).
i can recommend this soft.
btw, for everyone, that is using apps operating with text - glyphcache set to 131072 or MORE can really speed up performance of programms, not sad 8192, 32768, just more - >131072 can be used. value is in bytes, so it is not strain for system...
sorry for funny english, i can read, can't write...:S

IMdb Mobile

Hello.
i looking for apps to add to my phone, and i really want an imdb mobile app.
After searching i have came to the conclusion that non exists (please correct me if im wrong).
i then found this site
Code:
http://nolanbrown.com/imdb
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
it redirects if you use IE , using chrome it appears to work.
after reading the about bit
"Since being released January 5, 2008, IMDb Mobile has been raved about as one of the best web applications available for the iPhone. It was voted a "Staff Pick" by Apple, made Apple's Most Popular page in Entertainment and in a mere 15 days, IMDb Mobile received more then 20,000 visitors."
it appears it was designed for iphone viewing and i guess the creator set it up to check for the browser and have a blacklist (it appears his blog not updated in some time, maybe chrome wasnt out when the he had the blacklist??? i dunno only guessing) so i assume changing the user agent on one of my mobile browser would make this site visible (unless anyone has a quicker solution).
i dont really want to change the user agent everytime so anyone know a imdb mobile app / quicker solution to use that site.
thank you for your time.
larry.
+1 for a IMDB Mobile App...would definitely be a nice app to have!
I would also like to get one...
Just as an alternative solution you can use the ebook-reader TomeRaider3, as they have the imdb database as a free download on their site (approx. 158mb) to read offline
Will give it a try...but I think an online app would be even better
Nevertheless thanks for your share!
Ascenca
i used to use it
i thought it was rather poor though, and if i remember correctly it is quite limited in what information it gives you.
the proper site works not too bad though.
Just downloaded this for my HD2 its an upgrade of a slightly older one and runs great once you go into the settings and assign a video player for the trailers to play on. In my case i navigated to windows/ windows media player

[App] Twimager - Mobile Friendly Image Host Viewer

I recently released Twimager on the android market. It is an application that captures links clicked to popular image hosts like twitpic, flickr, yfrog and img.ly to name a few. It currently supports 9 image hosts, plus direct links to images.
It was intended for use with twitter clients for viewing images that others post, but it will work with any android application that opens links to an external application, like the Browser.
Twimager displays the image in a more mobile device friendly way, and only shows the image, instead of the full website that is not mobile friendly and requires a lot of scrolling to view the image.
Twimager is available on the android market for $0.99 or Twimager Lite is available for Free, but only supports TwitPic.

Looks good, does it show image replies beneath?
So, I downloaded it in the end and it works well but I think as is, it is a little too basic to be charging for, even if it is only $0.99. If you were able to add nicely formatted replies to the image at the bottom so you can scroll down and see the replies then it would be a much better proposition.
No, it doesn't show any replies, and I have no intention to add them. That goes beyond the scope of the application. It is meant to remove the "clutter" and show only the image. Though I will have the ability to open the original source, so if you want to read the replies and other things on the original site you still will be able to do so.
I have added the ability to zoom, so you can see the image in its original size, and I am working on saving the images, also I am always looking for additional hosts to support. chzb.gr links were just added last night.

TinyPic is already supported, and I will look at adding support for the others too.
Hmm, the lack of comments is the only really offputting thing about it. I know you say it is beyond the scope but I would think you'd sell a lot more if it could fully replace the image hosting site, and the only way to do that is by offering the same experience of picture and comments.

Best chat app?

Hi,
I have a website and quite a few members have suggested that adding a chat room would be a great idea.
I'm searching for something I might be able to integrate well into my site.
Has anyone tried RumbleTalk or C-box?
I made a lot of research in
finding a chatroom for my website. I used envolve for a
while till they closed up, pitty. I tried IRC but I truly did not like
the look and feel and the “mess” of text in there.
I had several points which are important to me.
1
– First I needed a chat that can be seen in mobile (all versions) so I
narrowed down the search for html5 chat room that look good on both
mobile and pc.
2 – I needed a custom design, I needed my background to be black or transparent. This was very hard to find (my site is dark).
3 – I do not like to install the chat in my server as this is high cpu and resource consumer. So I need a chat service.
4 – Lastly, I needed the ability to add youtube videos and upload files.
I have checked several chats and only 2 met my needs, RumbleTalk and Cbox.
I choose RumbleTalk finally as it can be integrated into my page and not only as toolbar.
PHPBB Social Network, search on Internet Bro. xD
in Indonesia we mostly used BBM..
but i think whatsapp ist better
Well I was looking for a html chat. I did quite deep research on it in the last year. Tried over 20 of them and I can tell you, the best one is Rumbletalk. Thats for sure!
Rumbletalk is number one!
It is. It also has a free trial available now.

The thing is that with Rumbletalk you can manage just about anything. Backround, text style, wight and height of the chat room, etc etc,.. That is why so many people love it. You can also use it as a floating chat or as a window chat.
