Please bear with me if this is not the correct forum, but I have what is likely a simple question (I know nothing about XML).
I want to include the local weather for Charlottesville VA on my Alltel HTC Touch which is running WM6.1. I copied the HH_WeatherCities file over to my laptop, opened it in notepad and made the following changes to the file:
I looked up Richmond VA and replaced Richmond and RICHMOND with Charlottesville (this follows Accuweathers naming convention)
<city name="Charlottesville, VA, US" loca="NAM|US|VA|CHARLOTTESVILLE" land="United States"/>
I then saved it with File type set to "All Files" and with UTF-8 as the encoding type.
The xml extension is intact.. Is it really as simple now as replacing the present file in my phones Windows folder with this one?? Or could I have damaged the XML file with Notepad.
Thanks for the help from a hopeless beginner in these matters.

Yes, that's fine
I normally copy and paste a line and edit the new one with my town using notepad (or notepad++ ).
XML files are just plain text.
EDIT: also moved to Q&A forum

Thanks Dave for the very quick reply.

Just a clarification question...
I found the following files, packaged in a .cab, but don't think I need all of them and don't know where to put the files I do need.
Here's what I have:
4orangeh.dll
HomePage.xml
HomeScreen.dll
HomeScreen_menuF.bmh
HomeScreen_MenuS.bmh
orange.scheme.xml
OrangeHomescreen.home.xml
I'm thinking that the 4orangeh.dll is the only file I need and that it goes in the application data/home directory, and that the other files are associate with a homescreen this particular individual authored. Is that correct or no?
Thanks for the help!
ahhhh
NO.....nononono....thats wrong.
You got the units for ABAXIA (all the files above exept the 4Orangeh.dll)and 4OrangeH.
You may copy the files to /Application Data/Home and register the .dll manually with wm5regsvce.exe.
May not work stable, but you got this: (Link to another Thread by me about the 2 DIFFERENT OrangePlugins called Abaxia and 4OrangeH (4Orangeh includes 10 different Plugins)
ClickMeHard
The Top Image is Abaxia, the second Images are 4Orangeh.Abaxia is poooooor, 4OrangeH really Impressive
Nice arpy!
You wouldn't know where I can find some (English) documentation on how to use this plugin?
erm,no...sorry.Ive created a German Doc with all needed attributes for this Plugin, it was a hard trip and needs a lot of try-and-error-sessions to get nearly all informations about it.
Here is a Howto in German, it includes nearly all Attributes and Parameters needed for 4OrangeH.Not finished yet...there are some more undocumented Features, like FreeMemory,Messages,Ringtone...it is like an OWN HOMESCREEN-PROCESS, so it can Host more than one Plugin in one Line...an REALLY DAMN ****IN **** MISSING FEATURE in my lovely SmartPhone.
the file maybe helpful, if you always create Homescreens...
Thank you. I'll try and see how this comes through a translater.
Hello to everyone, i`m a newb here but i`ve found a way tho add new cities to AccuWeather. I´ve just upgraded my phone to TNT.20273 Series "BETA" (Vanilla/Official/Professional), and one if the thigs that i would like it`s to have my city on it, So searching in this forum and in the internet i found a simple way to do what i whanted.
I find the file on my phone called HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml that is in the windows directory copied to my computer opened with notepad, be carefull that it`s read only you have to take this protection off go.
"Then go to accuweather.com and search for your city. In the url in the address bar, after it says .com, there will be a section that goes something like /us/”state name”/”city name”, where state and city names are the names of your state and city. If you live in the US, you location code will begin with the prefix NAM and will be like this: NAM|US|”state name”|”city name”. Europe’s prefix is EUR and will be like this EUR|”country name”|”country area”|”city name”. It is similar for other continents and countries" (thanks to this forum for this part)
And i`ve added a new comand line similler to another that i have from my country
Ex: <city name="Leiria, PT" loca="EUR|PT|PO011|LEIRIA" land="Portugal"/>
the original was:
<city name="Lisboa, PT" loca="EUR|PT|PO012|LISBOA" land="Portugal"/>
Close notepad put the permitions on read only, see in your phone if the program (accuwather) is working or not on task manager, copy the file you have just made to the windows directory on your phone replacing the one that exists, soft reset and it`s done. It worked on my Wizard.
For security if something goes rong it`s better you make a backup of the file , in case you do something rong.
Hope it helps
On accuweather.com I can't find in the address bar the right code ...
I need the city: GAETA but if i search this siti the result is this in the address bar: accuweather.com/it/it/lazio/gaeta/quick-look.aspx?cityid=213297
Why????
same for me. I couuldnt see the country and city code in the url bar

Great! Finally a text editor which is able to edit REG files.
Are there any other text editors capable of Unicode?

sure,
1. PHM notepad still works good, it's 2003 and discontinued, not even web home page works but you'll find it by "PHM notepad" can't open large txt, when opening new file, it will reuse the same instance of already running, closing actually open file, no 'find' option
2. orneta notepad
http://www.orneta.com/products/notepad/
looks workable, but not free ($10)
I only don't like it because it don't have a toolbar, it's frustrating to go to 2 level menu to hit 'find next' or cut, paste. just so useless
NOW WITH MUI.

Hi, i think i found how to remove IE, Live search, Office, Windows live, and a few other small stuff but i'm sure that by removing those folder there is also a few registry line i should erase a few places but its a real maze and i'm not a programer or whatever else that read a code page and feel like he is reading an ordinary book of common language.
My goal here is to find how to remove whatever i want. Here's what i would like:
IE
Windows live messenger
windows live search
office
audio manager
media player
calendar
image viewer
contact manager
calculator
mail
I want to be able to take them out at will and replace them with apps of my choice. The problem is to find them and taking them out clean. Is there anywhere that has the proper documentation not writen in "chinese" so i can do it myself? I dont need anyone to come here and make there show off, i dont care how good you are to confuse me with your technical language, i want it in plain english with paths and command lines to change, add or delete from precise defined files like .rgu or anything else if its possible. It would be much appreciated. By the way, the apps list i named could be a lot longer. The more control i can have over the ROM the best it is.
I dont need to tweak the settings because thats way over my head, i just want to manage the apps that are going to be installed.
To finish, i would love to take out the dialer and replace it by my rosco dialer. I mean, completely replace the dialer, not just partially, but i guess this is a lot of work because i guess the dialer app is mixed up with a bunch of dll and stuff like that and i would have to rewire all that to my rosco dialer and for that i would probably have to do a lot of very complicated stuff with my rosco program to read codes and bla bla bla so i guess i'll forget about it but if by any chance its a lot easier then i think, feel free to tell me how. Thanks for your help, if i get any.
I think you best bet is to look into one of the kitchens available...
You can build a ROM to your likings that way.
Yes. I feel the same way; you should really learn to cook a ROM. This will give you a better realization of what goes into a ROM and realize that it's not that simple to take out OEM apps. There are things from your list that you will be able to take out of your ROM though, which is why I say that you should learn about it. Take a look at my guide in my sig..
I already have a Kitchen called Hypercore. I have the original french wm6 in executable format, i extracted the RUU_signed.nbh, then i used NHBextract to extract the OS.nb. I put OS.nb in my kitchen to get the SYS and OEM files. Then i have a 2 web page showing what i can delete from SYS and OEM which can be find here:
http://www.techparaiso.com/windows-mobile/tutorials/232-porting-new-os-build-and-exploring-the-sys-folder-of-your-kitchen-and-scanning-the-importantun-important-packages-for-windows-phone-os and here:
http://www.techparaiso.com/windows-mobile/tutorials/233-porting-new-rom-release-and-exploring-the-oem-main-folders-of-your-kitchen-and-scanning-the-importantun-important-packages-for-windows-phone-os
i did my own .rgu with a generated UUID file for my personnal tweaks that i put in a folder i names zzz_My_registry_OEM to be sure its installed at last and the .rgu file goes like this:
REGEDIT4
;Stop the software keyboard always appearing
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip]
"TurnOffAutoDeploy"=dword:1
;change the location of Temp files
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\FileSys]
"TempPath"="Carte de stockage\Volatile
;change the location of My Documents
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"NoSubFolderIn"="\Carte de stockage\My Documents"
;change the location of emails attachements
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Inbox\Settings]
"AttachPath"="\Carte de stockage\Emails\Attachements"
"PropertyPath"="\Carte de stockage\Emails"
;change the location of Temporary Internet Files
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]
"Cache"="\Carte de stockage\Temporary Internet Files"
;change the folder where the camera write its images and videos
;Images:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\Image]
"SaveFolder_040C"="\Carte de stockage\My Documents"
;Videos:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\Video]
"SaveFolder_040C"="\Carte de stockage\My Documents"
;change the rings folder location
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring]
"Directory"="\Storage Card\Rings"
;change the slide-out keyboard layout in US
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd]
"Locale"="0409"
;keep the .cab after installation
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\apps\Microsoft Application Installer]
"nDynamicDelete"=dword:0
;show\hide clock in task bar
;(it activate the battery indicator when the clock is off)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell]
"ShowTitleBarClock"=dword:0
So far so good. But the only 2 links i got to know what i can delete from SYS and OEM, is not enough to make a real good clean of all the apps i want. There is no tutorial no where explaining it. You tell me i should learn how to cook, but how can i learn if everytime i ask some information like i just did, the people suggest me to learn how to cook? Thats exactly what i'm trying to do here. All i want is to know, which freakin folder goes with which app and which rgu or whatever i need to modify or delete to make a clean removal. I want to learn, but i cant learn out of thin air. I also found the folder BaseApps in the SYS folder and it seem to have some apps there too, but i'm just not sure if i can just go and delete whatever i want that wear an obvious name like calendar.exe
If someone know where to refer me so i can LEARN as you said so easily, well, just tell me because thats all i'm asking to learn.
I'd like to customize the start menu prior to building, I'm using win mob 6.5 Build 23569 & OSKitchen Zero .
So far i've made a .reg injection file in EXT packages and been able to add reg entries for folders and also point them to their Icon.
But the folders only show up if I manually make the folder after the rom has been compiled and flashed.
The icons at least work then, But even if i put a reg entry inside them - Inside my .reg injection (Like Calculator) under HKLM/Security/Shell/StartInfo/Start this does not show up. (If i copy it from Windows/Start Menu into the Tools folder
made after flashing it does though)
I believe I am missing putting in the new Start menu file structure somewhere (Like the physical directories) but i'm not sure where I should put them as the /WINDOWS/Start Menu/Programs folder doesn't exist yet & all the .lnk shortcuts are not structured anywhere.
Sorry for my ramblings, I have tried searching and reading lots of posts but cannot find anything specific.. If you could help, even just by pointing me in the right direction I'd be happy as
My goal is just to be able to organise a structure (TOOLS/ACCESSORIES/INTERNET etc) in the start menu rather than just have all the items plonked everywhere.
Thanks
I've found my answer - Edit initflashfiles.dat (Change extension to .txt)
I will write a guide shortly as it's very hard to find.
Thanks
