IME update.zip installers
About IMEs
OEM IMEs are input method editors that are included preinstalled on Android products released in regions that don't use a Latin keyboard. As with all preinstalled apps, they are by default contained in the /system partition. These update.zip installers allow you to quickly and simply reinstall an OEM IME onto your 1.5 or higher build Android using the recovery. Note that you must have the test-key certificates installed in order to use these (i.e. you need to be "rooted").
Installation
1. Check your remaining space in /system by opening Terminal Emulator and typing df. The third line or so should be:
Code:
/system: xxxxxK total, xxxxxK used, [COLOR=Red]xxxxxK available[/COLOR] (block size 4096)
(Remember that 1024KByte = 1MByte)2. After confirming you have enough space in step 1, download the desired IME installer.
3. Rename the installer to update.zip and copy it to the root of your sdcard.
4. Reboot into recovery and use Alt+S to flash the updater. Reboot when done.
5. Open your settings to Locale & text and check the box next to the new IME. If you do not wish to use the multi-IME selector then uncheck the other unwanted IMEs.
HTC Chinese IME
The Chinese IME bundled with HTC-branded phones sold in Asia (e.g. HTC Magic & HTC Hero). CIME contains multiple input methods, including handwriting recognition, zhuyin, cangjie, pinyin, and stroke. CIME can recognize both traditional and simplified handwriting, but output for keyboard input methods will default to traditional or simplified based on your system locale setting.

iWnn Japanese IME
iWnn IME is a Japanese IME bundled with NTT DoCoMo's release of the HTC Sapphire hardware (rebadged as NTT DoCoMo HT-03a). iWnn IME contains three primary input schemes, a standard qwerty latin input, a qwerty-phoneme input, and a 9-key kana input. Predictive text performance is good. However, no handwriting recognition for kanji is available.

Any chance of getting the non chinese vk, the one that just says touch input. Just wondering if it's the same issue as registering additional libraries.
But this is great btw.
Seems like everything is fixed.

I don't think key.apk is present in any Haykuro H build based on 1.5. I'll dig back to a 5.x version and see if it is compatible. It might not be possible to install it alongside HTC_CIME though?
hey thanks for putting it all in an update.zip. Its
very quick and easy. Cant wait to try this ^_^

Which Haykuro build are you extracting your key.apk from? You are probably missing some required libraries.

Same method as handwriting input in vertical screen.
1. Put your app in horizontal mode (if you have autorotate enabled just rotate the phone)
2. Tap on text input field.
3. Tap the gear button. If you are in Latin entry mode, the gear button says "寫". Now you should have horizontal handwriting input.
What if I just want the vk and not the writing part of it. I like the HTC vk and just want that...
Possible?

Not with CIME. I think the HTC Latin IME is available as key.apk, but I haven't the fortitude to dig around Haykuro 5.X to extract it.
Personally I prefer the look of the stock Android LIME. HTC's LIME is too iPhone-ish.
I really like the keyboard.
However sometimes when I use the phone keyboard, I can switch between T9 and abc. For example when im using google search, I cant switch to T9.
I find the CIME to be more accurate and does a better job, much better job, at text prediction.

thx for helping. but my JF1.5 dunno why can't use auto rotate. and when i flip the keyboard out, it won't let me handwriting. even i long click the text field, choose handwriting input, nothing come up.
If you could tell me how to pack an update.zip and grab the libraries, I would gladly make a working key.apk for all of us to use. It's the better keyboard out of all of them. The Google vk is very lackluster, and I can't believe it's the official cupcake one I keep seeing.

If you open the hardware kb, you cannot use onscreen kb. To auto-rotate, go into settings > sound & display. Turn on orientation option.

exactly... it's a much better vk then the cupcake one. I can use the HTC vk and hardly have to correct what I type because it's so good at text correction. Now when i use the VK in the 1.5, it sucks at text correction and even proximity detection. It's HORRIBLE compared to HTC_CIME.....
I rather not have this use up 9MB of system memory, I only need the keyboard....

I had read about a full QWERTY Keyboard by HTC being available on the other Touch device forums. Any idea where we can get this keyboard guys?

Although I have Kaiser, but it might work in your case too.
Open the keyboard, click on a little up arrow to open settings.
Choose "keyboard" in the input method box. Below it, you'll see two choices, choose "small keys" and save.

That's for the standard WM keyboard.
Actually, that device is a Sprint Touch. I think HTC configured a qwerty for that device. I remember playing around with it in a Sprint Touch before I got my Cruise.
The same thing can be achieved using PocketCM and a nice skin.

Hmm, interesting, I've yet to see that. Does it only come up when you configure a network key via the Notification popup? I've thus far always preconfigured my networks via the Comm Manager. I'll have to play and see if I can get it to come up. Its also interesting that it seems like he has the 12 key (T9) SIP selected...so I take it when the network thing pops up you can ONLY select this SIP?

The Pocket CM skin is nice, but one thing that always annoyed me was the lack of numbers as compared to the T9 and SureType SIPS. This SIP actually has the numbers row up top. I really want this SIP!
I saw it for the first time on my own phone! It really does exist.
OK, so I was able to call it up for use in IE. I was in a text field and I could call it up by biring up the SMS window and then Xing out of it so that I was back at the IE text field. An all of the sudden its there for me to type with, doesn't matter if I try to select another SIP, it sticks...that is until I ether exit that text field or switch programs again. I also experimented and called it up while in portrait mode to see if the keys would get any bigger/usable...nope. It just puts the numeric keys on the left so you have QWERTY and a dialpad! BUT it doesn't have a space key in this orientation so its kinda useless even tho its a very cool lay out. AND T9 does not come on at all when using this SIP unlike when using the standard QWERTY SIP.
Screenshots>>
Note that with the keys shifted, you get symbols on the home row.
Note the dialpad orientation of the numbers while in portrait, and the lack of a space button!
Symbols are the same...
FYI This isn't related to our mystery keyboard, but its useful and kind of hidden. From any SIP, you can soft press the camera button to bring up a symbols page...Its not as pretty as the Touch symbols page, but it has emoticons and a lot more symbols to choose from from the first page plus you can navigate either the touch screen or using the D-Pad. I never even use the Touch symbols anymore, I always use this.
The big question now is, how do i get this Keyboard in ANY program i use? I would like tom have this as default keyboard and not those T9 keyboards.

I'm running Toms rom, found here
i have disabled threaded sms by using the second setting here
i have enabled the favourite people button on the htc home screen by deleteing the key here
the only other app i have that may have changed a setting is the HTC home customiser.
After making these changes tick the enable xt9 setting in romsettings app, exit the app, then go back into it and untick the enable t9 setting, after closing romsettings you should have the keyboard shown in the second screen shot
as far as i can see this changes the keyboard in all applications

I have been using Swype keyboard for some time and absolutely love it, but have been annoyed about it not having special letters such as used in Scandinavia.
Then Yesterday I fell over a similar keyboard called SlideIt and that works same way as Swype, it just have support for all European languages plus Arabic and Hebrew, plus you can make abbreviations and as a benefit to all those that don't use WM you can also get it for Android and Symbian.
Price is a reasonable 7.99 USD
You read about here: http://www.mobiletextinput.com/
U are scandiavian? Does the keyboard support ÆØÅ?
Yes, I'm Danish.
Yes, as I wrote then it supports all European languages, you download a language pack of your choice, mine was of course Danish and you can just download the Norwegian language pack and in options you choose the language you want as Primary and which one you want as secondary and voila you have all the special characters for Norway.
The only issue is when you have used Swype for some time is that the buttons are a little smaller, but that only takes a day to get used to.
ok, and it works when u flip the phone to the side?
Have to check out the videos on youtube before i decide...
But if anyone else have used this, i would like to know about the feedback..
Brilliant, abselutly brilliant....

Think this is a know'n problem since i have heard some other reports on the same.

It is really a great keyboard! One issue I have is that it does not detect text selection in HTC Messaging application. I don't think the problem is with SlideIT since it works fine on another text application like Pocket Notepad, and also Swype does not detect selected text also... So probably a problem with HTC Messaging app text selection method...
Anyway it is a great input method and works very good!

Yeah, I know about the long press editing menu. but even if I select a word with the little pointers (or whatever that things are called) SlideIT does not detect it, so I cannot add/edit/remove that word to/from the SlideIT dictionary like the video here: http://www.mobiletextinput.com/Product/SlideIT/Corrections.php

Hi all!
Have just installed SlideIT and i think if i give it some time i will use it before the HD2 original one. But, is there some better looking skins for it? Or at least one with slightly bigger buttons?
Have googled it but i can't find anything that points me in any way that says that someone is making or are going make skins for it.
Can it be done?
In PDF User Manual, I read this:
"The user has the option to introduce a large number of new words into the dictionary rapidly or to even use a customized dictionary. To do this, create a file containing the new words on a PC and then move the file to the device. The user must open the file and select all of its content. Next, tap on the indicator ‘+’. The bulk update is then performed. Note that the maximum length of the selected text is 1000 characters."
But which kind of file I've to create, where I've to put it, and how can I access to it from the keyboard ?

I too am looking for this input in an apk. Willing to 'donate' for the cause should it work.
I know other inputs are possibly better but I'm used to this one now and can make it work as fast and easy as I want it to. Familiarity is good.
edit: and I'm learning Chinese but not fluent enough yet to read the above linked forum and request a Chinese person put it together.

1. Go to settings > Applications and check the unknown sources box.
2. From the market install an app installer (I use App Installer by ModMyMobile)
3. Download the apk file uploaded earlier in this thread
4. Open it with your new app installer. This will install the keyboard.
To switch to this keyboard press and hold in a text field and go to input method and select Chinese Keyboard.
To switch from English to PinYin to Handwriting Recognition press the cog icon in the bottom left of the keyboard.
To change settings of the keyboard press and hold the cog icon in the bottom left of the keyboard.

Hi Everyone!
I use a Lenovo Yoga tablet, and struggled for a while with the keyboards made for smartphones. Every time I had to write a character with an accent (éáóúöüőűí) I had to hold the key, and wait for the alternative characters to appear. They didn't really help with coding either, so I tried the Hacker's Keyboard. It was quite good, but if we can have the whole PC keyboard on screen with all the modifier buttons, why not use its potential and add hotkeys? This is how Clavis Keyboard was born.
Clavis Keyboard is a PC-like keyboard for tablets, with numerous hotkeys.
Features:
-Familiar: The keys are where you'd expect them to be
-Well-known hotkeys: Copy-paste-cut and select all work like on PC
-New hotkeys: Search for selected text on Google (Ctrl+G)
Open a new e-mail, paste selected text (Ctrl+M)
Insert text macro 0-9 (Ctrl+Shift+Number)
Change the first letter of the last word before the cursor from lowercase to uppercase or back (Ctrl+I)
Home (Ctrl+Left arrow)
End (Ctrl+Right arrow)
-Themes: There are numerous themes already, but I'm planning on adding much more.
-Layouts: US, GB, DE, FR, IT, BE, HU
I welcome any questions, advices, requests and ideas regarding Clavis!
You can download Clavis Keyboard here:

This looks really good, and I'm excited to test it a bit more when I get the chance. I did notice a few things:
I'm on Lollipop (CM12.1, on a Nook HD+), and the initial setup was a bit of a pain. After enabling the keyboard, step 1 of 3, nothing happened. I had to back out of the settings and manually progress to the next steps (selecting the keyboard to use). Not sure where the issue lies, but other keyboards have set up properly.
Settings -> Language & Input -> tapping Clavis Keyboard Free (to open Options) gives an error: "Failed to open settings for Clavis Keyboard Free"
Behavior settings have untranslated group headings, and one option ("Gyors pont Pontot ir ha duplan koppintasz a szokozre")

Thanks for the feedback!
The setup is new and actually worked when I made it, but it seems I managed to mess up the code just before release
I'll patch these very soon.
Its me again, been using it a bit more and i do like it, especially that you can adjust the height on screen. Have a bug, a question, and a suggestion.
auto uppercase doesnt seem to be working, from the start of text entry and also after a period. ive tried disabling and reenabling it, and still no go.
Is auto correct disabled, or just not implemented?
Can you add an option to adjust the key repeat delay?
Thanks, and keep up the good work!
Hi, does it have polish letters?
like the keyboard, and I tried on phone, but it is too small, in my opinion. can you optimize for phone as well
Yeah thanks a lot, and thanks for IT Layout!

Autocorrect is not yet implemented. First I want to fix the known bugs, but I will definitely include it later on
I'll take a look, and will tell you what I could do about the key repeat delay and the auto uppercase.

Sadly not yet. I plan to add the spanish and the portugese layouts next, and then hopefully the polish. Problem is, I got no friends who could translate the scripts for me, so it'll certainly take some time :/

Well I made it especially for tablets, but you can try to increase the height and use it in landscape. Maybe later on I'll come up with something to make it more comfortable, but right now it's not my primary goal. Sorry
testing the new keyboard. doesnt seem to have any auto correct?
May I help in adding Hebrew characters layout?
If so, how?
Here's how a standard Hebrew keyboard looks like:
http://store.aramedia.com/shopimages/products/normal/kb-hebrewwhite.jpg
Do note, that since Hebrew is a right-to-left language (like Arabic), it has weird behavior on some keyboards, like putting "(" instead of ")" . I really hate it, and would be happy to have the option to disable this behavior (it even happens on Windows OS , but somehow only on some apps).
Since Hebrew doesn't have uppercase letters, when pressing SHIFT or CAPS-LOCK, it just writes in English. However, on Android, those keys are gone, and you can long click on any key to have the alternative being written on it.
Attached how it looks like on various Android keyboards apps.
Please, make a pt-br layout... You idea is great
Good idea! Great keyboard.

Thanks for your offer!
Hebrew keyboard seems interesting, so I'll gladly make it after the planned layouts.

Thanks. I don't know how much effort does it need as I'm really busy right now, but maybe I could help you a bit... However I have no knowledge in programming coding or development....

You wouldn't have to code or anything, just translate a few lines from English to Polish.
By the way I've just finished the Polish layout. It will be included in the next version (without translation for now).
On my note 9 i used to be able to go in the calendar and pop the s-pen out and WRITE what i wanted to schedule using ANY keyboard (swiftkey, sywpe, etc)
Now you HAVE to use the samsung keyboard to handwrite.
well that's one less reason to have to switch hands to pull the s-pen out now i guess
You have to tap the pen icon top right and you can use the s-pen.

That's odd. Not sure why yours is that way.
ok, i got it to show up, it only shows up on full screen month.
doesnt do me much good cause i use day view
Do you have the pen icon on day view?
Man, on my note 9 i could hover and a bubble with a T would pop up letting me switch to handwriting mode.
I guess they had to take that handy feature out and integrate it into something custom.
Yeah they took that out, i just looked on my note 9 and it's a setting in the s-pen stuff. There's a option for direct pen input that plops a bubble up to change to a drawing box.
So they did take that out to force you to use their keyboard.
Yeah this may be my last samsung if they keep taking stuff out and replacing it with crap
I got a good work around for this.
I installed gboard and set it to handwriting and put the change keyboard icon on my navbar
so now i can do what the note 9 did out of the box.
lol

you could have done exactly this with the samsung keyboard already installed - use whatever keyboard you want normally, then when you want to handwrite, switch to samsung keyboard that you can already have setup for handwriting only mode.
It's how I set mine up.

I went with gboard cause the writing area is bigger and its a simpler interface.
Was never fond of the samsung keyboard but it can't be disabled with package disabler or stuff breaks.
I would usually disable that.

This shows that your level of patience is zero. I didn't need to enable anything and yet it worked. BUT did you add Write on Calendar as shortcut yo the SPEN functions so that when you pull the SPEN it gives you the option to do so?

that's not what I meant by writing on the calendar. I meant writing in the handwriting to text box to fill out a whole day, not just handwrite or circle something on one day.
so you missed my point. You totally missed the fact I said the feature the note 9 had where if you hovered it gave you the option to open a handwriting box rather than having to use the samsung keyboard or switch keyboard to WRITE and and it turned into text in the detailed appointment making section of the calendar
I have no need to hand write on a little box or circle a day and write what i'm doing underneath it without having an alarm set for my task for that day. So you missed THAT point too. You must have never had a older S-pen that had the feature I was talking about. That is now made mandatory to use the samsung keyboard to enable unless you install another handwriting api.
Go google note 9 oreo s pen direct input and see what i'm talking about.
I'm not talking about JUST the calendar, im talking about writing in ANY text box and having it turn to text WITHOUT using the samsung keyboard. On the note 9 if you hovered the s pen it gave you a bubble to bring up a independent writing box for ANY text input box ANYWHERE without being forced to do it through the samsung keyboard.
You missed the whole point of the original question. The calendar was a example, but you missed what I was talking about with that too.
here you go, look at this, go to 35:41 and see what I was talking about that's removed from one ui 4.1
Completely missed that point, and I DID learn something.. However, I did find something that might be useful.
By default the Samsung keyboard comes with the handwriting recognition on (I turned it off when I Set it up), and SPEN detection in the options:
I re turned them on and I could do what you described entering the handwritten text on the corresponding areas so it would transform to TEXT.
I have learned my lesson and I will take my coffee now.

Like I said in earlier posts, I don't like the samsung keyboard and wont use it, the writing pad area is too small compared to the gboard or google writing inputs. It's still irritating they're trying to make you use all samsung stuff. thank god i could get rid of samsung pay and all the samsung kids bloat without anything breaking.
One thing i did notice is you really need to let this phone boot and wait a few minutes for everything to finish loading or it forgets settings.
My problem is solved (and actually the accuracy of the gboard handwriting input is much better than samsungs, it detects hebrew and chinese MUCH more accurately)

Now I have to test Gboard... Damn it! lol
Oh yeah I had the same thing with the S21 Ultra, I had to really wait for everything to fully load or else the settings would be "temporarily forgotten"
I remember there was a point in Iphone where you could not install whichever keyboard you wanted so you were stuck with Apple Keyboard which was in than moment really bad.. I then got into Gboard or Swift Key. With Samsung, I have only used Samsung keyboard but text prediction drives me insane.

You can either use gboard which is a full keyboard with the handwriting option you can enable full time or you can just get the google handwriting ime which is just the writing pad. the ime has a "tad" bit bigger writing area but less options and you may like the text input and swyping of the gboard typing, it isn't bad (i'm STILL stuck in love with swype that is dead, they finally killed the sync server so you cant get your dictionary back)
I still swear by swype, and when it was supported they kept making it better then nuance sold it to microsoft who killed it for swiftkey (bleh).
The nice thing about the gboard writing input is you can install all the languages you want and it says it will interpret and translate. symbols or words.. I only messed with english, hebrew and chinese (I only know a couple words in hebrew and chinese stuff from buying from aliexpress). It worked. my handwriting is terrible and it figured out what i was writing and knew where to put periods in sentences. It's worth looking at, if you dont like it you can always uninstall it.
oh it knows when you draw emoji's too
the handwriting ime isn't on the market so you have to google for it if you just want that and not gboard google google handwriting ime and i think it's the third link to version 1.9.3
