Issues : Network connection and VGA mode, how to ? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

I'm noob and recently i've updated my Qtek 9000 (Htc Universal - G3 version) from windows mobile 5 to windows mobile 6.1 from Windows Vista.
I've done it following this guides :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313001
to change windows mobile device driver to USB modem Vista Driver
after that i've followed
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Bootloader
to upload Universal SPL (Bootloader) to 1.01.
After all of this i've flashed with Tomals 8.5 STANDARD with success uploading my device to windows mobile 6.1.
Now my device is so configurated :
Rom version D.08.50 TML WWE
Radio version 1.03.00
Protocol version 42.36.P8
Actually i have problem with GPRS connection with my Tim Italian network. I must also test UMTS with 3 Italian network.
My device now doesn't establish a connection with network.
Also i want to improve the screen visibility to VGA mode, but i don't know how do it.
Also if it's possible i would understand how can introduce shortcuts to my "home".
I hope that someone help me and thank you in advance.
Bye

P.S.where can i find a complete list with the best and usefull software actually available

1. problem: the networks settings for TIM are available on this list of APNs (apns are access points for gprs network, which you are experiencing problems with as you dont have the proper setup. you should be able to find the necessary information here:
http://forums.pinstack.com/showthread.php?t=360
(sorry for linking to a different board)
as far as i know, you wont need "username" and "password"
2. problem: Use RealVGA and proper ResPacks for it to make this possible
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327830&highlight=realvga
(get the RealVGA.cab file and also a ResPack*.cab file like ResPack128dpi.ARM.cab
to get "medium" screen visibility and 96dpi for extremely low size font

Thanks for your prompt help.
I've solved for VGA issue. Thanks a lot.
Does it exist something similar also for Italian ROM, or it's usable only with English ROM ?
For the first point i don't know where i can i ser APN and other parameters on my PDA. Sorry, but i'm a noob.
Looking around settings menù, of this Tomals 8.5 ROM, i find a "connections setup utility" that has entered the right settings for my Tim operator. At least so it seemed.
But unfortunately it didn't function at all.
My PDA is always in searching mode to find an operator.
The strangeness is when i reboot my pda in the first seconds my PDA receive correctly sms from my network operator.
Where can i insert the right settings for Tim italian network, and if it's possible for 3 italian netowrk ?
Many thks again to everybody.
johnjohnmel

provided connection setup should work.
try updating the radio rom to a latest one as I see it is 1.03.

THIS IS a cab collection that can be used with the universal, but if you search there are many more! glad you got the rom on and took my advice about Tomals 8.5, it seems that 8.81 is even better now you know how to flash in vista.

UK T-Mobile MDA Compact - ROM Upgrade

I've read through a few threads/posts and think I've figured out what I need to do. Would appreciate someone telling me I'm on the right track.
What I've got:
UK T-Mobile MDA Compact
ROM 1.01.00 WWE
Radio 1.00.10
Ext ROM 1.01.128 WWE
What I want to do:
Upgrade to latest, safest ROM without destroying GPRS and other connectivity (or anything really)
Not end up with a doorstop
Upgrade using USB
What I've downloaded:
WWE_11200_128_11210_ship (seems a nice safe ROM)
What I'm going to do:
- connect via USB
- connect power (or is the USB power ok by itself?)
- run the exe file
- watch it upgrade....
So - is that it? Or do I still have to do all the other things (overwriting bytes, extracting, etc, etc).
And will T-Mobile still talk to me....? Or more to the point - can I restore the existing ROM (I think there's a ROM backup utility on the FTP site)?
Thanks in advance (and try not to mutter 'dumb newbie' too often).
Cheers
Andrew

You've got to give more info on your situation. What browser are you using? Dit you type "ftp://xda:[email protected]" instead of "ftp://xda-....." ? Do you use a firewall (from windows)? etc. etc.
It's not a problem of the server. It's up. I logged in using IExplorer just a minute ago.
If nothing works, just use a ftp-client.

The server is a little bit slow sometimes (this is the best place for all the xda stuff  )
Connection problems can occur when u use a router for your internet connection. If so, make sure you open and forward the ports (21 and 20 ) for FTP to your PC in the router management. Make also sure that your firewall opens these ports.
Furthermore it's better to enter the settings manually in the FTP-client program.

This thread appears to have become a 'how to access the ftp site'.
I am also trying to put together in my head at least the best way to upgrade my rom, which is more or less the same as yours!
I did manage to down load the lastest rom and unpacked it, but which exe file are you talking about?
The method that seem to stick for me, is to copy the nb1 file on to a sd card, going to boot mode, etc, etc.
But I am worried about do something to my sd card in the process!
Hmm lads, lets all get back on track I have covered this in previous posts
I recently upgraded a colleagues MDA compact (an untouched TMobile 101 build) with the 112_172 build its actually the Orange MDA build from Holland. But very good.
Bear in mind keep your programs that you installed handy as you will need to re-install them .
- Extract the shipped ROM.exe files to a folder for instance MDA112, this will leave 6-8 files in the folder with radio.nb1 etc. This can be done by WinRAR or WinZip
- Connect to ftp site ftp://xda:[email protected]/Magician/
- Copy the MA_upgrade_NoID file from the ftp site (Tools folder) to the MDA folder on your PC/Laptop
- Plug in USB connector to MDA
- Backup your relevant contacts etc
- Disable ActiveSync USB connections
- Go to bootloader mode Camera-Power-SoftReset All 3 actions together, USB will be displayed , very faint, on the MDA screen
- VERY important: Run the MDA UpgradeNOID.exe file(this will ignore country code errors that you will receive normally) in the MDA folder you created and deposited the extracted files from the ROM image
- wait 20-30 minutes and
- hey presto you have a new ROM on the MDA.
- re-enable ActiveSync USB connections
You should be done
i am getting all kind of annoying messages about ruu dll not found...what is this and where do i find it?
solved but now i have the rom upgrade utility error 150...
anyone ?
I too am getting the "rom upgrade utility error 150" after carefully following the instructions for upgarding a T-mobile phone from the same ROM version.
I am wondering whether it is necessary to follow some kind of installation path? What I mean is, maybe it is not possible to jump from the shipped ROM (1.01) to the latest version.
Might need to stagger the upgade?
Did yourworldanywhere have any luck with his upgrade, cos that was the exact same install that I am trying.
Cheers

problem with SDIO Safecom Wi-fi and WM 5 1.60b

Hello I have big problem with my SDIO Wi-fi card!
I bought Safecom card SDIO for Wlan and I have installed WM 5 1.60b 96 on my Qtek 2020 and card just does not work! The blue signal light just does not blink - as it should! So I baddly needed Wi-fi and I downgraded to WM 2003SE - where the card worked - perfectly. I could pull it out and plug it in with no errors, but here when I instaled drivers it said it were not ment for this tipe of OS - like almost all programs! I turned to manufacturer and they told me it was only for WM 2003 - not even 2003SE!?!
I saw similar post for the problem and it said that they use WM 5 1.6a - but with that version I had alredy have had quite a bit probems with phone operation - it didn't work. Help me please - I just cannot downgreade to WM 2003SE any more - I can't stand OS with non persistent memory, excell with no graphs, poorer graphics, no power point... any more!
PLEASE HELP ME! ANYONE!
I got the safe Safecomm SDIO Wireless B card as you and I am using a XDA2
I have just upgraded from WM2003SE to WM5 with 96MB RAM.... and I have been experiencing the same problem. But I fixed it by downloading and installing the following 2 items:
-Safecom_11b_drivers.rar
-Widcomm fix after install for 1.50
They can be found on:
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,100/func,select/id,15/
Best Regards,
Sam
The Ambicom WM2005 beta drivers work with the Safecom SDIO wifi card, as they're the same piece of kit.
I'm using it with WM2005 2.01.32WWE from tofclock. Only trouble I have at the moment is that you need to soft-reset the device with the card inserted to start the blue light and activate the card each time you want to use it.....
I haven't yet found a way of making the card work upon insertion without resetting the device.
Have you tried to install the wifi fix?
It is Patch #7 on this page:

Hello
This happened to me too.
First on 2003SE it worked very well, then after install wm5 1.60 stoped working.
I performed a downgrade to 2003se again and not worked as well, another downgrade to wm2003 1.72 official O2 rom and the same never worked anymore.
Does someone know if it is possible that some how wm5 1.60 cause an error inside the card and she died for all rom's?

Now I have WM5 2.01a64 and instaled 1.18 driver from the file: Safecom_11b_drivers.rar downloaded from buzzdev.net, the card waked up and then started to blink, the PDA detected the card and enabled the hifi option in the wireless manager, but the card did not found any network. Even after manually inputed the SSID.
I really think the card is damaged.
I have a SANDISK SD wifi card which i just can't get to work on my himalaya with wm5. Does anyone know if there is a solution yet?
San disk WIFI SD card doesn't have driver for WM5. I have look for in the website company, it doesn't support for WM5 driver. If somebody can solve driver issue for WM5, I think this problem will be solved immidiately

Take either landscape or portrait QVGA ARM version. It belongs on, what you prefer. The smartphone versions are smaller than the PPC.cab files!!
Search for opera mini windows mobile, works great!
Wififofum2 and Hitchhiker are well known wardriving-tools, but wardriving isn't legal everywhere!!! And they need .netcf 3.5 or 3.7, you loose additional 6.5MB free program-ram. There is a mobile version of the network stumbler around, too.
The best way to get 1h free internet in Germany , is to visit a fast food restaurant (the one with the golden arches).

Problem with WM 5 Upgrade

Hi at all,
i saw your thread to update the MDA2 to Windows Mobile 5. I downloaded the file from rapidshare and followed the readme. In one step the readme says that I should connect the MDA with the PC over USB and run the programm "HimaUpgradeUt_noID.exe", so I did. The programm brings error 102: Checksum Error, but I followed the steps in the readme...
What am I doing wrong? Which checksums aren't correct? The sums of the new ROM or the old one?
Thanks for help!
PS: Sorry for my bad English, but I'm not a native English speaker ;-)
the text file i got in my rom packet told me very spc to put my pda in the bootloader before running the flash upgrade
Thx for your answer!
Yes, but I don't exactly want to do, first I have to change the Checksums, then I have to put the MDA in the bootloader mode and then? What should I do then?
Sry, but this is the first time, I do such a thing
if it's the correct type of rom for the device
and it's in bootloader
connected to a powered cradle
and displaying serial
as the txt guide say
starting the flash tool should be enough
hm...
this doesn't work...
I don't know exactly weather this is the right version, my MDA II has
- 125MB RAM
- 2GB SD Card
- Intel PXA263
I downloaded following: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=287941
Is this the right version?
http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_phorum&Itemid=125&phorum_query=read,26,6594
good guide
Everything works!
Thank you very much! The version is very good, with a lot of useful programs, but the American keyboard layout is a bit strange for Germans ;-)
Hi
I have still some problems...
My MDA doesn't connect with the network, so that I am unable to phone or send SMS. The displays shows "no service", but this isn't possible, because here is a service avalible. Are there some special setting I have to do for German use?
Thanks!
EDIT: When I tap "find network" there is an option to choose "E-Plus" (my network), but when I tap OK, there is a message "registering with network" but in the end it is still "no service". I don't know exactly but I guess that it has something to do with my debitel-light prepaid-card. Debitel-light is a kind of E-Plus resell.

Anyone with Helmi Cooked Rom able to connect their Blackberry Connect?

I am using the Helmi Cooked Rom and I installed the BBConnect onto my Tilt and the PC desktop software and I can't seem to generate a Pin on my Tilt because it cannot get connected. Any one able to help? (I have the BB plan)
yep
Yes am running the helmi rom myself and all is working well. Check which version of the BB client you have installed, perhaps that is a possible reason.
But works well with the vario III model and said rom installed...
I'm using the newest version 41.0.0.84 posted on HTC site. What version is yours? Did you flash a Hard SPL? or a SSPL? before flashing to the Helmi Cooked Rom?

The method described above (chaging AKU version) does actually work!
This is what I did:
1. Installed the latest clean cooked rom (CE OS 5.2.1978)
2. Installed Resco Explorer for the registry editor
3. Changed the AKU version from 0.7.0 to 0.4.2 under HKLM>System>Version>AKU (The key difference here is that this change was made before installing BB Connect)
4. Installed BBC v4.0.0.84
5. To configure BBC I used the BlackBerry Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile app which communicated with my work servers and then configured the device for me.
Hope that helps others in the same situation as me.

Followed these instructions after a hard reset and still no luck. I have the same problem as the others, after step 5 it would connect for a second or so, and then disconnect. So it was back to the HTC Rom.
Sometimes the rom needs to be Hex edited to show that its AKU 4.2 I am sure if you ask Hemli he might do this for you in a future release. I am sorry to say but this is one of those issues that some have beening that the roms we have on this forum have not been made for public release since the 3rd party software has not been properly set up to run with it.

I can confirm that these instructions do work with Duttys hybrid no.3 ROM. The only difference is that I installed BBC V4.0.91 version mentioned in this thread.
By the way thank you KarmaNP it did work. I went back to check on what I entered and had too many periods (.)'s when changing the AKU. Make sure that 0.4.2 shows and not .0.4.2 which was my mistake.
