Please mods move all other "Brick" threads here.
heres a few things to do if u THINK u have a brick
WIPE
if you haven't wiped and your phone wont load, stop being a baby and wipe, if you need a phone with diapers or pull ups should invest in a different phone
if you have apps to sd and you experience the Android Loop (that sounds like a roller coaster ride
first off please dont try symlinking your /data/data folder to a /system/sd/data folder that has data from a pre 1.5 firmware build
if u get the loop
try renaming the app and app-private folder to something else like app1 and app-private1 and do the system link normally
if it boots proceed to install the .apks into the respective folders (see code below)
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/sd
mv app app1
mv app-private app-private1
busybox cp -a /data/app /system/sd/
rm -r /data/app
ln -s /system/sd/app /data/app
busybox cp -a /data/app-private /system/sd/
rm -r /data/app-private
ln -s /system/sd/app-private /data/app-private
reboot
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/sd/app1
install *.apk /data/app
cd /system/sd/app-private1
install *.apk /data/app-private
reboot
bump this up even if it won't help. we have another thread specifically for people that THINK they have a brick and yet daily we see at least one new thread saying they are stuck on either the splash screen, animated boot screen, or bootloader. i wish more people would read. as a general rule to everyone here:
IF YOU THINK YOU BRICKED YOUR PHONE AND YOU HAVE ROOT AND YOUR PHONE BOOTS PAST A BLACK SCREEN YOU DO NOT HAVE A BRICK
unless you tried the new SPL from haykuro, we do not have a way to fix that just yet.
i have only seen one person who managed to brick his phone but he was playing with toys he shouldn't have and i will not let you know what they are because i don't wanna see another brick.
I had a girl msg me who thinks she bricked her phone. On her first attempt to downgrade to RC29 she says it failed.
Now each time she starts up the phone, she gets the RGB screen. I told her to start up holding down home and do a wipe, but she says it only goes to RGB screen. I asked her to redownload dreaimg.nbh and copy it to the SD card but she has no cardreader and can't hook the phone up via usb because it won't boot.
I don't know if there is really a problem or it's just her. Shouldn't flashing the dreaimg.nbh take her back to an operational device?

Just to add to this this phone is practically unbrickable unless you mess up flashing the bootloader flash jf mods or any other mod will not brick your phone just reflash if you can get the screen after holding the power+cam button if you can't get that then you have a brick you can load files by connecting your micro sd card to a sd reader I have a mp3 player that takes micro sd cards. I just use that to transfer files because it reads my sd cards without formatting it
i remember on the kaiser that even if you managed to screw the bootloader(which i actually tried to do many times) there was a way to fix it. there was a tool that you can find by searching properly(PM me for details) i do not know much about the tool but i remember there was a way to fix any brick. more than once i tried to brick my phone because i found small faults with it and AT&T refused to send a new one because the faults were too small. the member that was able to help was named GSLEON3, i do not know if he is still around but it was a simple command tool to reset some bad blocks on the boot sector of the phone
Hmm i tried looking for a search but i didn't find anything specific to my problem.
I had upgraded to 1.5 and wipe and had no problems what so ever.
I had apps2sd and dalvik cache done and rebooted with no problems after a day or so i tried installing overclocker and set it at 528 works great phone didn't crash.
My batt died one day and when i charge it back up, it was stuck in the 2nd android screen. I was not sure what to do, i was able to access the recovery screen so i did a wipe and started back again.
After 2 3 days i did the whole process again and it repeated itself. So how do i know what is causing this? Is it the overclock app? i tired a different one the 2nd time and thought that it wouldn't cause a problem because it would reset itself upon reboot.
Is it because i have to many apps on my sd? around 80 apps i guess? Anything else that might cause my G1 to stuck in the 2nd screen?
Anyway to pull out a log and see what is causing it?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Edit : Hmm can the beta open home be the cause of it? How do you remove a app in recovery mode? Btw what is the new open hom beta apk file name?
Edit 2 : Yeah it was open home, used adb to remove the apk from the phone and phone booted up, now got to inform the developers. Thanks guys.
I thought I had done it this time for sure! I couldn't get past the G1 screen, no android screen, just black. I wiped, I wiped again, I got to bootloader, then didn't know what to do. Just as I was about to panic, I found this thread and pulled my SD. Dur! What a simple solution, that I never would have thought of! I re-flashed The Dude's Cupcake, and am rockin and rollin!
Thanks for helping the n00b! I am slowly learning....reading and learning!
Thanks
Kstar
Has there ever been a VERIFIED case of someone permanently bricking (e.g., impossible to repair) a G1 via firmware updating?
I see a gazillion threads that are along the lines of:
"hey, I was updating my ROM and the phone bricked"
"did you wipe?"
"no"
"wipe and then redo the update"
"ok, it's working now"
I have yet to see someone screw up to the point where no fix was available and the phone had to be tossed in the garbage.
I don't think I've seen it yet either

I recall one or two threads about unresponsive phones getting sent back to T-Mo (some time ago), but there was nothing about the situation that made me sure it was a modding catastophe rather than a hardware failure.
If this phone was not nearly bulletproof with regards to software mods, we would see a LOT of true brick threads flying around with all the crazy stuff folks try with their phones around here. Especially lately.

Just ask other than convenance why if you rooted your phone would you put ahome or open home when you could just flash it to your phone at a whim without having the 1.5 theme app bug plus I find flash the theme looks better on the phone. I've tried those apps never felt any of the themes where any good plus they caused the phone to lag real bad.

If your recovery mode don't work anymore try to boot in fastboot (power + camera)
You should see skateboard android little guys or a white page.
then on your computer download this http://jf.andblogs.net/wp-content/plugins/download-monitor/download.php?id=12 extract it and browse directories to data to get the "recovery.img"
copy it to c:\
Assuming you know how to adb then type :
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img
fastboot reboot
during the boot of your handset while it's still connected to your computer,
type :
adb shell reboot recovery
If everything went well you should have recovery back.

So if I see the G1 splash, but do not have recovery or bootloader, there is hope?
I was bricked installing JF 1.43 *after* moving to Haykuro's latest SPL. Apparently, it JF 1.43 downgrades the radio (I'm guessing). Not the way to get Alt+B option back for recovery, regardless. No recovery or bootloader - just the G1 screen.
Keeping Brick posts as consolidated as possible seems like a good idea.
I added a link to the top of the round up.

Hi all,
I just got an Era-branded G1 (I'm in Poland) and would like to upgrade to the latest Android image. I understand that in order to root the device I first need to downgrade to an older image.
My question - which image should I downgrade to? I have read various posts with confusing information. Some state that RC29 works fine, others that RC29 bricked their phone (due to CID lock - not sure what this is) and to use RC7 instead. I really don't want to brick this phone and would appreciate your help!
From the Settings screen:
Model number - Era G1
Firmware version - 1.1
Baseband version - 62.33.20.08U_1.22.12.29
Kernel version - 2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0 [email protected] #6
Build number - 126400
Thanks for your help!
hah! napisz do mnie jak chcesz moze ci pomoge. ja mialem RC 30 bo bylem w ameryce.. nigdy nie uzylem rc7 mialem tylko adp 1.1 i rc 33
Try instructions in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485364 post.
Why can I not just use the instructions in the sticky thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480? Will this not work on the Polish G1 with build number 126400?
If not then I will try to follow the thread kormanb1123 linked. I know linux so it should not be a problem. But should I be worried about downgrading to the "right" RC, or does it not matter if I take US RC-29 or UK RC-7?
Thanks guys for the help! Smokuevo - nie jestem polakiem i nie mowie bardzo po polsku.. ale dzieki!
lol allright man thought u were ;;pp
Because of CID lock
cannot get into bootloader?
I'm getting ready to use the method described in kormanb1123's link. First I thought I would check that I can get into the bootloader - but somehow I cannot
This is what I do:
- power off the G1
- press the camera button
- now also press the power button until the G1 turns on
- then let go of both the camera and power buttons
Then I get:
The normal blue startup screen with blue Era G1 logo, followed by the black screen with glowing android logo, and then it boots into Android.
This is exactly the normal startup process! What am I doing wrong?
Do not let go of camera button until you are in bootloader. Turn off your phone. Hold camera button and then press on/off button for a second or two until it strats up. Keep holding the camera button and let go when you are in bootloader..
Ok, thanks for clarifying. I did exactly that and kept holding the camera button after powering on. However, the phone just boots straight into android. It looks just like a normal startup in every way, and asks me to unlock my SIM. No bootloader in sight.
Could it be that this build (126400) works differently?

Try to remove battery first than, and start over. It has to start inti bootloader.
still cannot get into bootloader..
I removed the battery and put it back in. But starting up while holding the camera button still does not do anything special.
But when I start up while holding Home then I see a black screen with an icon that looks like a triangle with a '!' inside it. Will this allow me to flash it?

once you have root you can use the black screen you found to use update.zips to upgrade your phone, there is no update.zip that will downgrade at this point(if ever)from any image RC29-up.
to get the dreamimg.nbh which is what im assuming your looking to do, make sure the card is fat32(they come formatted to just FAT)put the file on the root of the card and it should be cam+power keep both pressed for a good 6 seconds or more
its quite easy once you have the steps correct, there is a possibility your carrier blocked access to the stock HTC bootloader, but Ive never heard of them ever doing that, its there for their own tech to use, they need it as much as we do to fix/upgrade(tho they could just use home+power) but I doubt, that key combo has been the same on every htc Ive ever owned (about a dozen over 5 or 6 models)
good luck,
bhang
Thanks bhang for the explanation. I've triple-checked everything and am still not able to reach the bootloader. I will try with a 2nd SD card and see if that makes a difference - right now I'm using the 2GB SD card that came with the G1.
I really hope they did not disable bootloader access as you mention. Anyone here have another Era-branded G1 that was originally running build 126400?
I have the same G1 as u haxor and my bootloader starts. I'm only afraid of update type correct for my phone G1 Era PL. I don't want to lock it Is enybody who did it correctly and who knows which update should I use?
Thank for help an asap answer
I bought Era G1 for myself 3 days ago,and I have that 126400 build, and for me the debug mode(power on+camera button) works. But I'm still afraid to downgrade my phone,as I don't know which version, US or UK I should use. Output from the debug mode:
DREA110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-1.22.12.29
Sep 8 2008
Serial 0
Does anyone know which version should I use to downgrade my phone?
Era G1 can be downgrade only with GoldCard ... if you are from poland, you must see forum.android.com.pl ... if not ... you must search topic called downgrade for g1 from Europe ... maybe

Why is that? I found on that forum that Era G1 uses RC8 firmware,so in theory I should be able to downgrade to RC7.....what might happen if I try? Will I brick my phone,or it simply won't run?
Ok I found out why is that, upgrade won't start, because of the wrong ID of the SD card. You need to use the GoldCard method for this to work.
I just went through the whole procedure with my Era G1 (with different operator SIM inside) from 126400 all the way down to RC29 and up to JFv1.43_RC9. In short words how I did it:
1. Create GoldCard using old (still free) version of qmat_424.zip and any Windows Mobile device with microSD
2. SD flash of DREAIMG-RC29.zip
3. Get root access using telnetd/telnet
4. Install recovery.img and flash Hard-SPL
5. Upgrade using the recovery JFv1.43_RC9 wiping all the settings on the way.
Don't forget to recharge fully the battery before starting this madness.

ok since there are 5 threads right now on the first page about how to do it and there shouldn't be, this is what you do, i will not link anything to anything because you should be able to find everything pretty easily(they are all stickies)
so all of you that messed something up on your phone and need to get it back into warranty this is how, FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
NOTE: if you have flashed a custom splash screen to splash2 then you will need to erase that before step one with this code
plug phone into usb in fastboot mode
Code:
fastboot erase splash2
After that you will have only one splash screen and when you flash the .nbh you will be fine
1. Get the original SPL for your phone, get it here
2. Rename it to update.zip and copy it to your sd card. /sdcard
3. Download the DREAIMG.nbh from here.
4. Place DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your SD card. /sdcard
5. Go into your phones recovery. [Hold the home & power button]
6. Push Alt+S on your G1 to flash it with update.zip
7. After it does its thing, gettig back to your home screen.
4. Start phone in bootloader. [Hold camera+power button]
5. Hit power to start the update DO NOT INTERRUPT!! i can not stress this enough.
6. Click on the action button(track ball) and your phone will reboot.
7. YOU NOW HAVE STOCK FIRMWARE, it will update on it's own in a little bit, or *Settings>About phone>System Updates*
MODS PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU TO STICKY THIS POST OR AT LEAST THIS ONE:

Mods sticky
Hey man you got my vote it was drivin me insane tryin to find this and thank you!!! Also, just to amke sure that it worked, what is it supposed to say on "About Phone". Thank you man
Just wanted to add one point - I followed this guide, but there's one bit that might not be obvious.
DREAIMG.nbh will restore your phone *mostly* to stock. There's one thing it won't change - the second splash image. If you've changed your splash images, you might want to restore them to stock separately before following these instructions.
Wouldn't be an issue for most users, but in my case the keyboard bit the dust and I had to do a return, and once I set it back to stock I couldn't re-root (and was left returning the phone with a custom second splash image).
i followed all of these steps and as it was applying the dreamimg rc29 for me it said failure... what do i try now? it seems that now my phone will only boot to the multi-colored screen and everytime i try to apply the update it fails about 3/4th of the way through... my phone doesnt work... any thoughts on how to fix this?
found the problem, sorry for my ignorance i didnt format the card completely so there were other files in the root and all i did was reformat and just copy the nbh file back over and it worked just fine sorry guys
one question...do i have to find the stock rc30 and rc33 to update also?? aren's there somethings required to update to cupcake? (like radio??)

you don't need to find the RC30 or RC33 files because when you have the stock RC29 your phone will update on it's own after a few hours. the only thing needed to upgrade to cupcake is the cupcake image. the radio is a choice and you ocan choose not to flash it. i still use the original radio that came on the phone with RC30 simply because i have been too lazy to get the latest radios

I rooted my fone for the first time today and played around. In the end I decided to unroot, because I need steeel and chompsms too much.
I went back to RC7 (my phone was previously RC9 before I rooted). How long should I expect to wait before my G1 auto-updates?
Thanks!
this should be a sticky... thanx
the greatest thing about the thread? well since making it i have only seen two people post that they need to unroot their phone and don'w know how. woo hoo
how long does it usually take to upgrade on its own? its been over 2 hours now and nothing..
its been over 24 hours since ii brought mine back to "stock" and i still havent received the update, what the f is going on? is this normal? sorry but im a newb.
same here I am back to the orignal RC29 but have not received any OTA like RC33???
to all of you that haven't recieved an update yet, there is an option in settings that will allow you to check for updates. or download anycut and create a shortcut. if you do not know how to follow the instructions in this thread you probably shouldn't have rooted your phone. i have reciueved many PM's about how to do this and as much as i am willing to help you, i expect you to have SOME common sense, if you do not i will not help
sorry man, didn't mean to piss you off, i stated im a newbie, i have the firm belief that nobody learns unless they try it themselves, albeit some help from others never hurts, + the version checker is on rc33, not rc29, hence i cannot take that route, if not i already would have. i guess ill simply continue to wait, phone works fine, just does not load any apps that have to be paid for on marketplace, i work for t-mobile, so im hoping that they may have stopped ota's of rc33 since we are launching 1.5 soon. quick question for those who know, is the build number supposed to be TC4-RC29 115247? this is the one i have. Thanks man!
+ I followed your instructions to a t. and have the classic "rainbow" android boot screen.
What happend to the sticky?? I culd have sworn this was stick yesterday.. PS thanks for this thread as i had to unroot my first g1 now i might have to do my second one .. argg..
Alternate way to revert to stock firmware without waiting for update
Hello,
This is my first post. I have been using an alternate way that I figured out to return to stock. This also works when you try to install an official update and it rejects the package due to invalid keys or device checks. You MUST already have root on your phone for this to work.
1) download official firmware image (whatever version you want)
2) extract recovery image from package to root of SD card
3) rename downloaded package to update.zip and place in root of SD card
3) reflash recovery image from terminal on rooted g1
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd sdcard flash_image recovery recovery.img
cat recovery.img > /system/recovery.img
4) Restart phone in recovery mode and proceed with update
5)Profit! Well, stock g1 without having to flash to RC29 and wait for an update.
I feel this is a more straightfoward way to flash back to stock. YMMV.
Many people complain that they have "bricked" their phones when they really haven't. This thread will hopefully help reduce the questions on all of our useful threads.
How to tell if your phone is bricked:
1.) When you try to turn it on, nothing happens?
2.) Camera+Power does nothing.
3.) Home+Power does nothing.
4.) You flashed the SPL BEFORE the radio
If you answered yes to any of the above 4, you are bricked. You probably need a new board in the phone. Read more here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=516440 It has been confirmed that you WILL brick your phone if you attempt to downgrade your radio after flashing the new SPL. Not sure why you would want to anyways...
How to tell if you just need to re-flash:
1.) Your phone is stuck on the g1 logo
2.) Your phone is stuck in a boot loop
3.) Home+Power boots into recovery
If you answered yes to the above then you are NOT bricked. You have the G1 Night Light. This is (usually) a very easy fix.
The usual scenario is: You just upgraded your radio and/or the SPL on your phone and now you are trying to turn it on with no luck.
How to fix: After you upgrade your radio and/or SPL, you need to wipe a rom on the phone. For a plain almost stock feeling rom, checkout http://jf.andblogs.net/2009/05/24/jfv151-images-are-out/ if you are looking for hero, checkout the tutorial at g1upgrade.com.
I have also noticed when you flash hero, it will stay on the g1 logo for 5 or 6 minutes and then it'll finally start loading. Make sure your not being impatient and give it several minutes if you have just flashed a rom.
Last step:
If you have installed a new radio, then spl, then a new rom and you STILL get the g1 screen. Try it all over again. You probably didn't do something right. You don't need to ask questions in 30 different threads, your issue is not unique. You just need to search for some answers.
*Saved for future posts*
Edit:
Thanks! Updated.
I flashed the SPL before the radio whenever Haykuro released the Hero ROM and I didn't brick my device. Guess that I just got lucky. Thank goodness I know better now. haha
it's possible you flashed the radio prior to the SPL, only a loooong ways back.
Another thing to try if you are having issues is:
su
rm -r /system/sd/*
I was stuck in a boot loop and a quick ext3 wipe did the trick. The command should be able to be ran from console or terminal. You may need to mount /system with:
mount -t -rw,remount -o yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
You would need to type that in between the commands above . I ran across this in another post but i think this is a good spot for it too .
Duplicate post...
thanx
At least I know now how to tell if I bricked my phone or just flashed it badly thanks for this.

many people who flashed the new SPL before the radio are stuck at the G1 splash logo, but cannot get to recovery or spl bootloader / fastboot mode regardless of what they do, so this bit might be misleading...
they aren't technically "bricked" b/c it's loading the radio rom, but it never hands off to the SPL, so there is currently no way of reloading either of those to make the device do anything useful -- essentially a brick

This is exactly what happened to me, it was a brick, sent for repair and they replaced the mainboard.
I have fixed 2 phones that had no recovery and stuck at the g1 screen. If someone has this problem message me and I'll help you fix.
Good Job
Sorry this is off topic. But...
Thank you for this thread!
Ok,
By the way, has anyone figured out what The difference in the baseband is?? I have a U in mine...

really? if it can't get to recovery / fastboot mode nobody has published a fix w/o a hardware swap.
what's your method?
I will buy a bricked one off ebay and post the steps I do to get it back. I can only fix the "Night Light", I can't fix a truly bricked phone (yet).

Q- Which ROM is best for me/ Which ROM is the best for 32A/B?
A- Take some time on the forums, look at the ROMs available for your device and individually assess what works for you by reading the various issues affecting them and make a decision. If that still doesn't work out for you, hey, that's what makes XDA great, try a different one and so on, till you find one that YOU'RE happy with. It's very subjective since what my needs are could be totally different from what yours are.

Not 100% correct: if you can still load in fastboot mode (vol DOWN+POWER) you can still boot a recovery image and flash it on the device:
1. fastboot mode
2. fastboot boot myrecovery.img
3. (in the recovery) adb shell mount /sdcard
4. adb push myrecovery.img /sdcard/recovery.img
5. adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
myrecovery.img: whatever the file is called.
Bootloader is same as fastboot mode
Hey...
How do I know if I have a 32a/32b phone?
I've got a myTouch 3g and I just got it a month ago.
Is rooting illegal? I know it voids your warranty but do you get apps for free and stuff?

Boot your phone into fastboot mode:
Power phone off
Hold Back key and power phone on
It will bring up a screen which either says
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
or
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
There will be instructions on the screen to power the phone off so you can boot as per normal.

Yeah but charnsingh says, if we CAN'T go into recovery.. You're assuming we can
The post is a bit misleading, cos we don't expect physical damage to the device (in which case, you get to the first splash, but can't reach recovery.. i.e. your Back/Vol. down buttons don't work)

Whenever I flash a new ROM I backup my data and apps using either Backup To Root or MyBackup Pro. When I reinstall my apps it never puts the apps back into the Market under my Downloads so that if the app developers update their apps it shows that there is an update. IN fac the only apps shown are the ones I've purchased.
What do I need to do, besides reinstalling each one individually, in order to have the Market get all my apps in the Downloads the way I want them?
Thanks
can someone explain what SPL refers to?
and then i hear terms like perfected SPL, eng SPL....
ive flashed some ROMs earlier...without worrying too mmuch about this SPL business, and now with a mandatory rogers update out, people are talking about SPLs (see rogers thread)
cheers
So what is an SPL anyway? What does it do?
The SPL, or Second Program Loader, is essentially the Android bootloader. It's job is more than just loading the Android OS - it also offers several other boot options, including Recovery mode, Fastboot, and HBOOT modes, and ultimately it's the SPL that allows manipulation of the flash nand on your device. Part of the SPL's job is to ensure that the data flashed to the device is correct. Most of the current shipping SPLs (apart from the "Perfect SPL's) let us flash a complete ROM image, but don't let us flash a recovery rom or boot image as it checks the verification signature. Haykuro has modified the SPL's available to remove this check and this is what the Engineering SPL's available offer. As the SPL is so crucial to the handset though, you have to be very careful when flashing it as if it's updated incorrectly then you may be incapable of restoring it without specialised hardware and knowledge. You essentially have a very expensive brick

remap "search" button on MyTouch
I have searched the forum and only found results for the G1 or remapping the soft keyboard...
Can the search button (magnifying glass) be ramapped as hard key to the camera?
If this has been discussed and i missed it, links are appreciated.
If it's a kernel-level issue, i'm on enomther's TheOfficial 2.5.1 AOSP.
Thanks in advance
[Sorry mods if this isnt the right place to ask this, tired, at work and pretty much I was asleep at the wheel. Please move this to the appropriate subforum if need be. ]

ROM Development
Hi, I have been Googleing for a while now and cant find any info on how to remove my current Android keyboard from my current ROM and replace it with the Hero keyboard – does anyone have any links relating to ROM modification. I a have come across how to download the Hero keyboard and load it into your current setup but I kept on getting FCs plus I want to learn how to modify any part of a ROM not just the keyboard.
Thanks.
Does my new mytouch with the more ram and 3.5mm jack have an actuall name?
Hello, I recently purchased my first smartphone. The mytouch3g with 288 ram and 3.5mm jack. For two weeks now I have been researching about rooting and roms. Most of the info that i am reading/viewing is on the oringinal mytouch3g...does this stuff still apply to mine? Will installing a custom rom give me more ram? Obviously I am completely new to all this but I am finding all this stuff to be quite fascinating...Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
As a solution to the brick issue and not getting past the bootscreen or not beeing able to load fastboot or recovery here's a solution which I had tried on my magic after I lost all hope and it worked ..Thanks to God and google
while on the bootlogo screen stuck, insert your datacable. it will show fastboot in red color on top corner.
run the android sdk cmd from dos prompt and enter "fastboot boot recovery_image_name.img" provided you can find the appropriate recovery image for your phone.
after updating, it will restart and you will bt good to go
G1 DREAM (really is a dream, right now, a little bad one a little embarrassing)
been 5 mos since I took root via Cyanogenmod's latest G1 stable and last theme was PHRASh Then I thought about checking out
some other themes and clockwork orange caught my eye... Orange is my favorite color, so wehen I saw there was some Orange theme I must've had a dare encounter with myself-- i recall actually installing the Orange theme..... when i asked the phone to flash the theme, it went into permanent G1. Gave it about 12 minutes. Rebooted into recovery (home menu power) and then did what I think got me in deep droid doo doo -- I attempted to restore to my last backup whch was the day before (and ironically the BEST backup i ever made I had it all humming so nice and fast) Guys -- instead of hitting restore to last backup... I actually hit nandroid backup. I know. That was a really bad day and its been a worse 50 hours. I know -- and Ive learned -- OK?
Since that time.... 50ish hours Ive lost track of what Ive done, but its a potpourri
bootloader is dev spl skateboarding, recovery is Cyanogenmod JesusFreke 1.4 recovery.

SERIAL0 -- (fastboot i have fastboot as well)
at first flash of bootloader it says "NO IMAGE FOUND!"
If I press Home when it restarts in perpetual cyclical hell I get into CMJF recovery. I have executed every single option numerous times -- and have not been able to successfully flash anything else -- and now I dont know WHAT to flash. I even tried to go back to root!
If I dont press Home or Camera, I get this....
the awful permanent G1 screen. Forever and ever.
I have Wiped backed up, tried to get update.zip and just about ANYTHING into my sdcard but I dont think they have been successful installations to flash. I am not ADB enabled yet. Surely someone knows what this is all about and I am willing to take a flame for posting in the wrong forum if I can get something out of this, I will pitch in later and help y'all keep these forums in workin' order!
every optioon on the recovery screen which is recovery CM and JF 4.2
When I try to load files according to the instructions in xda and cm i cannot get it in fast enough on the g1 running on the frozen G1 screen because I dont known the time of mount the SDCARD has and when it begins (I know it opens for a while and then closes)
So i got droidexplorer and its almost impossible to get the file in there. I can get it in, and see it, and reboot the phone (and computer)( restore usb connection and I see the update.zip on the sdcard. Then I unmount the phone and reflash and it says something about not being able to find the file.
Whats next? Please dont assume I know what I am doing, I am sure you can tell -- but I am really good at following instructions!
Hello anyone?
I have been up all night trying to fix this phone and i am still not able to do so. I
I cannot get into recovery anymore ------
i am stuck on the hardspl and I have found fastboot again. But I cannot use frastboot if I cannot get any commands into it. Anyone?
ok i get it -
thanks for the help guys! I now have my phone working at a blitzing pace and i am leaving it alone for now. I dare myself to leave it unchanged for a week. Thanks mostly to one of the Dudes on Cyanogenmod.com -- who helped me piece together the missing parts.
Actually -- let me summarize even if only I am reading this
Androids levels of defenses are 1. HardSPL 2. Recovery and 3. normalcy. Lose normalcy (Ok, a beauty of a ROM) you have recovery to get the ROM back -- but the trick is -- can you get the necessary IMG file on your SDcard to update.zip with? Can you figure out ADB and push the update.zip? Can you figure out Fastboot and what it REALLY does and what you can and cannot do with FB? If you can do any of these or FB with ADB, then you have a good chance. Just dont lose the HardSPL. If you give up after frustration and while grinding your teeth waving a white flag, flash the DREAIMG.img file, then you have given up root and FB. But at least you are at RC29, the level where the froot can be found. It is weird hanging out in Android 1.0 lemme tell ya. Feels so 1980'ish with bellbottoms in late decline.
But now its android time at CM with Phrash.
