Who used TomTom (VGA version) on Topaz might have noticed that the map is beautiful but the POI icons are more or less invisible (22 pixels on the Topaz WVGA are less the 2 mm) and overlook some kind of POI can be, well, dangerous (speed cameras).
After some research I found the solution: provide the _X2.bmp files.
Longer explanation for people who do not know about POI format.
1 - A POI category data is normally provided as 2 files: a <category name>.ov2 file with the coordinate of the locations and a <category name>.bmp file with the image to be shown on the map at the POI locations.
2 - <category name>.bmp is normally a 22 x 22 pixels 16 or 256 colors BMP file.
3 - Optionally a 44 x 44 pixels 16 or 256 colors BMP file named <category name>_X2.bmp can be added, but this is quite uncommon.
4 - QVGA version of TomTom uses the .bmp file to show POI locations on the map and the _X2.bmp file to show the top left warning when nearing a POI location. If the _X2.bmp file is missing it uses an elarged version of the .bmp file.
5 - When the _X2.bmp file is missing the VGA version of TomTom does enlarge the .bmp file to show the warning but not to show the POI locations. On the other hand if present it uses the _X2.bmp file also to show the POI locations on the map.
Therefore, to get larger POI icons on the map
1 - Make a copy of yours <category name>.bmp files
2 - Rename the copies <category name>_X2.bmp
3 - Using whatever graphical editor resize the _X2.bmp files to 44 x 44 pixels.
I don't have TomTom and I am not planning to get it, but if you already renamed all of them. How about uploading those files so other users don't need to do a lot to get it good?
Just a suggestion (if it varies on the version of TomTom, then I didn't say anything )!
But when I switch to landscape mode, they are small again. Is there a solution too for this.
HTC TD2 480x800
Hi,
I had a look at your solution but my Tomtom 7 already has the X2 icons in 44x44 and they still coming up small. I'm using the HTC touch diamond 2.
Thanks
Yeah uploading would be a good idea

I have a Diamond2 too and my X2 icons works.
I suppose you already checked the exact matching of names between ov2, bmp and _X2.bmp files (e.g. Semafori.ov2, Semafori.bmp and Semafori_X2.bmp).
I can only specify that I have TomTom 7.915.9196 for VGA (note that there are a QVGA and a VGA version and they are different).
Thanks.

I do not think so but it might be subjective and also version (QVGA or VGA) dependent.
At any rate these are version information, POI icon and keyboard appearance on my screen.
Stupid question perhaps, but where can I find the .ov2 and .bmp files to edit..??

OK; found that site too, but my point is: I was able to find the .bmp files for TomTom (although editing them to 44x44 resulted in a red square on the ttmap). In TomTom itself there are a lot of other poi's like gasstations, cashmachines etcetera. I can't find these poi's in my phone..
I have the same problem, on my Touch HD POI are too smalls!
Here's the speed camera icons resized, just sorted them out on my phone
EDIT: scratch that, just show as red squares now

I have TT6 on a Prophet having upgraded from TT5.21
I have copied my custom POI files as per the intructions on the TT web site but they do not show.
I cna enable/disable them and navigate to them but tey do not show on the map.
Any ideas anyone?
I have custom POI loaded on TTN6 and it displays the POI on the map in both 2D and 3D modes, all I did was enable the ones I needed, there is a limit of 100 custom POI in TTN6. What could be an issue is the colour depth used to make the POI icons, they need to be 24bit colour depth IIRC, otherwise parts of the colour don't show up. Also try zooming in to take a closer look at a point where you know a custom POI is located - Mike
Hi Mike, you get around. Thanks for the OGG files you emailed me earlier.
I'll check the colour depth. That could be the cause. Thing is they appear to be enabled in the enable/disable list but nothing shows.

Hi,is it possible to modify this plugin(http://www.smartphonefreeware.mobi/download-htc-home-plugin-smartphone.html) for 176x220 resolution?I tryed to install this plugin on my HP iPAQ 514 ,it works but it's little to big.
Thanks!
should work this way, after you install it, you can grab the whateveritscalled.home.xml file from ."..\Device\Application Data\Home" and edit that (I just used notepad). The plugins have various size values (height, width), and location values (x,y), and you'll have to edit the "skin" or the images associated with the plugins as well to fit the size you want. The images are usually stored in their own folder underneath "...\Application Data\Home" as well.
at least that's usually how it goes...I'm assuming this theme is no different.

Ok,thanks,i'll try!
It's probably not going to work this way. You will have to edit the graphic files and resize them.
Creating your clock image
Step one:
Creating your image
Using Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks, or a similar image editing application, create your clock.
Your image must be:
• PNG file type;
• 256 x 256 pixels; and
• have a transparent background
Step two:
Converting your image into a QTC manila file
Download Mode9 Editor from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=464984
When you open Mode9 Editor for the first time, you will be asked to enter the directory you will have specific files in. Use the help guide/manual that comes with the download to help you through this step.
Once you have Mode9Editor open, click on the ‘open’ icon (top left toolbar) and open your clock PNG image.
Now click on the little icon, above the image preview, that looks like a little disk with a ‘Q’ in it.
Save the new file as:
20F62884_manila
Copy your new clock file to your phone or storage card.
How to use your new clock image
Step one:
Backup, backup, backup
Using Resco Explorer, Total Commander or something similar, go to (on your phone):
Device – Windows
Copy the following file:
20F62884_manila
Save a copy of this file somewhere safe.
This is your backup in the event that you wish to return to Co0kie’s original analogue clock.
Step two:
Installing your new clock
Copy your new clock file:
20F62884_manila
Using Resco Explorer, Total Commander or something similar, paste the new clock file to:
Device – Windows
You will be prompted to overwrite the original file. Say ‘yes’ (don’t panic, remember, you have a backup)
Step three:
Restart Sense
A soft reset of the device is not necessary; however this will refresh Sense if this is your preferred method.
Alternatively, you can turn Sense off by going to:
Settings (tab) – Menu – All settings – Today – Items (tab) - untick ‘HTC Sense’ - ok
Then, restart Sense by going to:
Today – Items (tab) - tick ‘HTC Sense’ – ok
OR
Another way to restart Sense is to do as follows:
• Open CHTEditor
• Make a minor setting change
• Go menu - apply changes
• DO NOT EXIT
• No go and undo the change you just applied (unless you want to keep it )
• Go menu - apply changes
• Exit
Sense will restart.

You're welcome.
I hope it is clear enough. Be sure to let me know if I have missed something out or could change something to make it clearer.
I have also found it to be quicker to restart sense by going into the Cookie Home Tab Editor and applying a new lockscreen (select apply changes) and then reverting (without exiting, and again applying changes), and then exit the editor. This will restart sense without you having to wait for it to turn off, and then waiting again for it to turn back on. Without a tool that does it automatically, this is the fastest method I have found for restarting sense (and I use it all the time for applying analog clocks in particular).

Yes indeedy. The instructions above are for the clockface only; however, if you would like to have a go at making the hands, it is much the same process. The files you need to make, and their respective sizes are as follows:
HTML:
20F62884_manila - background - 256x256
0AB9C3F4_manila - hour hand - 16x256
4BDFBA48_manila - minute hand - 16x256
2A87D392_manila - second hand - 16x256
7126E342_manila - clock dot - 32x32
My fastest way for Sense reset - RestartManila.exe. I found this exe somewhere in this forum - thanks to the unknown creator. The cab will create a shortcut in windows/start menu. I made then a quicklink.
Hello
So i test it to make a own clock with some templates found on the Forum.
But after i copied the file in my Windows folder and restart manila i can only see the hands and second hand.
What did i wrong.
My way.
Open mod9--->open my png clock (256x256 and transperent)--->Save it as manila file--->Copie to my storage card--->copie with total commander in my Windows folder and overwrite the one that exist--->Softreset.
Pls help.
How can I make files for hands wider than 16 x 256, so for instance 32 x 256 or 128 x 256?
Make a png picture with the width of your choice (f.e. 32 x 256 or 128 x 256). For the correct rotation point you have to place the hand in the same way in the middle like in a 16x256 file. Then import this picture in the right manila file (I use CFC Gui). This will automatically change the picture in the manila file to the new size.
For other settings in 7c60907d_manila see this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6368698&postcount=32

By my take on the above process you have done everything correctly.
I am, of course, assuming that you have Co0kies HTC installed!
The only thing I can think of is that you may have misnamed the manila file. Double check and ensure that the clockface file name is 20F62884_manila

is there an easy way to increase the size of one of the clocks I downloaded here? From the links in your clock list thread I found lechux's Hero clock. I really like the HTC one but it's too small! How can I resize it up by 25%?

The only way really is to recreate the clock.
You could try converting the manila file back to PNG, then increasing the image and seeing if you lose much resolution. If you get a reasonable result, then it's a matter of saving the new PNG and converting back into manila.
Of course, if you do all this you should credit the original developer.
Also keep in mind that if you create a bigger clockface, and the one you're interested in comes with hands, then the hands will need to be recreated to fit the new size.
I created this for Amigo a long time ago. I made a quick port for the Android version, and I thought I would share it. I have ZERO plans to develop it more, but if anybody else would like to develop it, go ahead. I've included the gro converter to turn the file to a zip for editing.
Problems:
Only works in landscape mode.
There are alignment issues.
The starting animation is off center.
I'm sure there are more problems.
All these problems were fixed by Mmarz. Bobroberts has gone ahead and polished the skin and added multiple resolutions. Thank you to both of them!
You can use this skin by copying the data.gro to /data/data/com.navngo.igo.javaclient/
Back up your original data.gro first. You may need to change the permissions on the new data.gro to "777"
Here is what the skin looked in Amigo: http://www.igo8navigation.com/index.php?topic=161.0
To summarize, you can add vias, advanced saving of favorites, add/remove speed cameras, add/remove road blocks, create routes, and lots more.
Well, enjoy.
Use Bobroberts's version found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18529122&postcount=32
Thank you for this!
I worked on this skin and got most of the portrait mode working:
MyAmigoSkinV41AndroidFix9
This is the 9th version I've made. (I upgraded the version number because I added some goodies)
Place the data.gro inside the folder /data/data/com.navngo.igo.javaclient/
I've included an audio folder with some wav files from the skin that you must place in the following folder if you want the red light camera voice prompts to work:
/data/data/com.navngo.igo.javaclient/audio
See above.
Thanks for this, very nice!

Can you send me the data.gro that you used before that worked?
Sorry, I should have elaborated; the program goes thru the exit sequence, and then reboots.
I think I found the culprit, in \ui_android\common\ui\general.ui

<uselayer ui_Exiting/>
<script init>
remote_call 0 "android.on_exit_pressed" - change to: remote_call "android.on_exit_pressed"

You might be able to use this skin. Try adding the following to your sys.txt:
Code:
[rawdisplay]
screen_x=640
screen_y=910
screen_x2=960
screen_y2=590
highres=1
double_screen=1
show_cursor=0

For which resolutions is this skin?
I checked the link you provided and says that support 320x240 resolution, but it is very big for that.
Is there any way that I can do to make it fit, on 320x240 screen or it doesn't supported?

No it doesn't support it. It would take a lot of work to make all the resolutions function. This is 480x320. Igo does have a "stretch" option, but I don't think you can make it shrink.
thanks for this, i was using the only other 480x320 skin i could find: 12Carrera12 Sbertaud13 V7.0d EUR+ , but unfortunately some parts are in french, this one has the advanced options at least in english

Open the file, within the zip that you modified, using a hex editor. For me, sometimes random invisible characters are inserted at the beginning of the file. Delete those using the hex editor.
Never use the return key inside of a windows text editor as it might add hidden characters as well. Use copy and paste of nearby lines instead, and then overwrite the line.
Never completely unzip the zip. Extract the files you would like to edit. Modify them, and then add them back into the zip.
Last comment, does the unmodified data.gro work?
If anyone wants to carry this on, here is a half way done port of the skin for 800x480:
http://www.mediafire.com/?j85ht32c610vlxn
I don't have a device to test it on, but this should theoretically load on your device. It will look all wrong. That is for sure. But all of the functions and images are in there. The only thing that hasn't been done is fixing the x-y location of all the elements
Here is what needs to happen to finish the skin. I've included three folders. 800_480_final contains the files inside data.zip that still need to be edited. Every single element within these file is correct except their location and size. These are the values used in the 480x320 skin created by Mmarz. What needs to happen is that you need to go line by line and fix the following values:
x=
y=
w=
h=
fontsize=
paddingright=
paddingleft=
align=
iconalign=
iconvalign=
Just so you understand the language m3:x= would be the x location in landscape mode and m4:x= would be the x location in portrait mode. x is measured in pixels from the left side of the screen. y is measured from the top of the screen. w is the width of the element and h is the height in pixels.
In the folder 800_480_orig I included the files from a regular 800_480 igo my way skin. This contains the correct x,y,w,h..etc values for the majority of the elements. Use these as a reference when fixing the values. Some elements won't be in here.
In folder 800_480_myamigo_old I included the files from the original my amigo skin. This contains the correct x,y,w,h..etc values for any elements missing from the above folder. But this is only the landscape version. For portrait values (m4:x=, m4:y=, m4:w=...etc), you'll need to use your best guess as to the correct location and size of the elements.
If anyone decides to finish this, please post it back on here so others can enjoy it.
Not it! I don't have a 800-480 screen, nor the free time.

Hello.
I'm a "vet" WinMo user - especially with Omnia i900.
I also made this "Ultimate-Total" theme fro Omnia (S2U2, Manila, etc) in Modaco.com, a quite popular one.
Anyways... I bought now a HD2 Leo. I found pretty soon, that it's NOT the same (easy) way to edit the Manila (Sense 2.5 in Leo).
In Omnia, I just opened the Windows directory, copied all the .png files in a temp folder, edited them and re-copy them back. (Or even better, I was extporting the Manila theme with the M2DC app in my PC, opened the file with WinRar, edited them, imported them back to the Manila file and copied back to Omnia...
In Leo, it's NOT THAT easy, at all!!!... Anyways, after so many months, I found many-many things already done (in cabs) and I don't have to worry much... But, I want to edit/modify all the Slider icons, the Slider sellection icon and the tab's large icons (when you're changing tabs, the large one in the middle of the screen)...
Can you people, please, please tell me, how can I do that? Can you write me down the proccess? What progs/apps I need? What's all these icons' dimensions?
Reply me back, m8s.
P.S.: I'm using rom with Co0kie inside. So, there is an EXTENDED (large) Home screen - with 2 additional screens (left-right). The WALLPAPERS MUST be larger than the original/usual one, then - and how much (dimensions)?
What would be this larger/wide wallpaper's size?
Skinning Sense/Manila files is not really that complicated as it looks at first.
They actually come with their own format, but at xda you´ll find easy-to-use conversion tools. Look for "m9editor" or "CFC GUI+".
Especially with the second one, you´ll find out how "easy" it is to find the graphics and their names.
An easy way to find out what files you need to change is to download the thing you want to change, check the files, and then start your work - modding in the png-capable image editor you prefer, convert the work to Manila/Sense files.
That´s about it.
EDIT: Just forgot about the wide wallpapers: Panorama is 1440x800 (3 times the normal one), in CHT 1.8.5 it was 960x800.
