Stuck at 1st boot screen

I've looked all over for the answer to this, and I've tried multiple things but nothing seems to be working. Last night my phone froze (for no apparent reason) so I pulled the battery. The first boot screen came and went but the 2nd doesn't show...it stays blank and then eventually I hear the noise my phone makes when it's fully started up, but the screen is still blank. I have to push menu and the home and call keys a couple of times to get the screen to turn on, and then I can see everything seems to be up in the background, but when I go to unlock my phone it doesn't recognize me pressing the buttons (to unlock the SIM) so I can't get any further. When I do home+power combination, the screen with the triangle and exclamation point comes up, but it won't recognize any of my button presses. I tried to use fastboot to bring it back, and it says everything went through but when it starts back up the same thing happens, it won't recognize me pressing the screen to unlock the phone. It will take maybe the first 2 keys I press..and it will lag while it takes them...but after that it doesn't take anything else. I don't know what to do so if anyone can help or might know what could have happened. Like I said, I was just on the browser last night looking around and it froze so I pulled the battery. Oh and I'm running JF 1.50 if that matters. Thanks guys.
Did you install hardSPL?
If not, maybe you can create a goldcard (search in this forum) and flash the basic system on it again!
I have the SPL for Sapphire ported to Dream.
I might have to take it in to T-Mobile because it boots up and just automatically freezes at the main screen.
The only thing I'm worried about is that I changed the first boot screen so if I do end up having to get a new phone I'm going to have to pay for it
wipe wipe wipe
no need to take it to t mob just wipe take the sd card put it in a sd card reader load up the root/hack rom and go from there no need to take it back cause t mob will tell hell no when they try ro boot it up
I don't know how to wipe it without going through the bootloader and that won't load up.
I also don't know how to flash an update without going through bootloader so I'm stuck.
try this
pull the battery hold down power + home put battery in without taking your fingers off thoses buttons wait till bootloader loads. it happent to me an endless loop everytime i pulled the battery it would power up without touching the battery so thats what i did

[Q] Screen won't stay on for more than an Instant

ok, weird issue.
Yesterday I came back to my TF having left it inmy bag for the day, and it would not turn on at all.
I tried various things and then decided that the battery must be totally dead.
I left it to charge over night, and come the morning was able to watch it booting.
However once It finished boot it goes to black screen. Pressing the power button sometimes gives a flicker of backlight and then goes blank again. sometimes it even gives a glimpse of the screen.
Plugging in the power sometimes gives a longer blink of the booted ROM.
I have tried a cold boot, a full data wipe and I have used NV flash to fully reinstall the ROM (Prime 1.8)
After the full reinstall I go through the Google initial setup process without a problem, as soon as the rom boots I am back to the flicker of screen going off..
Does anyone have any ideas??
Still got the problem, does this sound like hardware to anyone else?
if the screen doesnt work during boot it is hardware problem. flash ur rom again or wipe it

Screen works fine during boot
Done both of your suggestions unfortunately, as I stated in my original posting.
I am going to try going back to Stock, and assuming its an app NOT restore any during the rebuild process.

Into the dead problems.

First of all, this game is awesome. however, if I pay the game for an extended period of time(5 minutes or more), it throws my phone into a weird bootloop situation. It vibrates and screen goes black, vibrates again, reboots to my homescreen, waits maybe 5 seconds and repeats the whole process. Only way I can stop this is to reboot into recovery, clear cache and dalvik and fix permissions...I don't know which parts axillary fix the bootloop but still. I'm running carbon 1.6.1 with ktoonsez 3-27 kernel. Minimal changes to the kernel.
Any ideas or things I can check would be massively appreciated.

Phone in bootloop all in a suddent, unable to access Bootloader/Fastboot

Sorry but i have tried to find similar threads without a clue what happened with my Nexus 5.
This just happened few hours ago during work. i have done nothing to the phone and eventually enter a bootloop mode at the end.
The phone. is using ART runtime for quite some time, never have any issues. now when i find out the phone is off and i tried to reboot the devce, the second time it booted normally and i went check everything if there were something wrong, first Whatsapp jump out a warning date and time error. so i went to system clock and recheck the boxes to auto. problem solved. after few seconds a screen pops up and saids "android upgrading, optimizing app xx/xx. it was very strange..but i can do nothing with it. so i went back to my meeting and leave the phone charging. when i came back 10 mins later i tried to check everything again and end up finding out the runtime, supposed to be ART, went back to Dalvik , i was thinking "oh snap..whats wrong"
try to reboot the device and it entered bootloop, occationally i could see the 4 color dots and mostly didnt.
tried to use fastbook/recovery mode also failed. (after seeing the screen it restarted again, if i keep on holding it repeated 4 times and turns no respond)
All this happened in a sudden, please help, the point is i didnt even do anything to the phone..
thanks.

tap the power button vigorously. i mean hard taps. use your finger like a hammer basically... the power buttons are known to **** themselves on the nexus 5 and this can un-stuck them.

Random screen crashes, freezes, glitches

Hello! I have a stock Android Lollipop 5.0.1 Nexus 5 and for the past week or so I have been experiencing a weird issue.
The device randomly crashes. By "crashes" I mean the screen goes black, but the backlight is still on (it's a lighted black). I can push the power button and it will turn completely black (locked) and if I push it once more it turns lighted black again.
To get the device back into usable state I have to keep the power button pressed until the phone resets. Sometimes I keep it pushed for a full minute and nothing happens, sometimes 10 seconds are enough. Sometimes it will go through the "Google" logo and then stay in the lighted black state until I finally manage to reboot it again. Sometimes it crashes again right after it boots up.
It's weird because a lot of the times it's ok throughout the day and then when I go out in the evening, I take it out of the pocket and I see it crashed. Sometimes it crashes while I actually use it.
Last night it started doing something else: instead of lighted black, the screen is filled with static noise. It doesn't move or anything, it's a still image. Today, when a crash like that occurred, the screen glitched first (random lines on the screen, some parts got moved, really weird). I will get some photos if it happens again.
The problem is that I can't identify what's causing it. There is no particular app or action that I do / use that triggers this. It also doesn't seem to be movement-based, as it sometimes happens while it's sitting still on a table.
I updated to 5.0.1 about a day before this started happening, but I'm still not sure if it's software or hardware-based.
I tried a factory reset and booting into safe mode, none of these helped. I will only consider flashing a custom ROM as a final resort, because I'm not sure if it voids the warranty.
PS: the device is still under warranty, but I'm away for the holidays and will be until the beginning of the next year. And I'd like to have a usable device, especially while I'll be on the road.

I have none of your issues, try booting the device in safe mode and see if the problems still occure. It must be a or multiple downloaded apps that are causing your issues. Or try a data factory reset and restore/download your apps one by one amd try to identify the culpritt.

I said in the post that I tried both of those things. The crash occurred seconds after booting in safe mode and factory reset did not help either.

Flashing the 5.0.1 factory image in fastboot should fix your issues. Or try flashing system.img first, maybe thats enough.
Same issues with my Nexus 5

I am experiencing SAME exactly issues in my N5 with 5.01 and 5.1 . EXACTLY... you are not alone
Seems a software problem (third party app ?) , started in 5.01 and now is in 5.1 , of course system and boot images where flashed with fastboot, so no solution using
Stock, Rooted, using Nova Launcher - Smartwatch 2 - Google Cardboard - Chromecast and many apps.
But started ..if memory helps .. after installing Cardboard 3D apps.
