I have tried copying the dalvik-cache file associated with the apk but its the same thing. Can someone please tell me a more proper way to install these files by using a update script or is there a file im missing?
[NEW GAPPS.ZIP & APK] New Android Market [2.2.6] for G1(Android 2.1&2.2)[16/12/2010]
EDIT: I've put the new gapps.zip to update all ur gapps . This has to work : ) Just flash this from the recovery . It'll overwrite your old gapps , giving you the latest of all the basic gapps (incl.the new Market )
You can then go to the new market and install the updated Gmail,Voice Search,Google Search,Maps,Youtube app etc.
New Android Market (version 2.2.6) features include:
1.Refund window changing to 15 minutes
2.New carousel with featured apps on main page
3.Widgets and Live Wallpapers categories added
4.Related content added to app page
5.Single page app viewing, all info in one place
6.Max size for apk files increased from 25 MB to 50 MB
Also the Downloads now get paused instead of getting cancelled if there is a network/data interruption
I am not making a flashable update since it might clash with the original Vending.apk . So here are the steps to remove the old market and install the new one.
1) Use adb to remove and install the new market.
a) adb remount
b)Backup your current Market by
adb pull /system/app/Vending.apk Vending.apk
c) adb shell rm /system/app/Vending.apk
Rename the apk you downloaded (MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE RIGHT APK FOR ECLAIRS OR FROYO) to Market.apk and put the apk in the Android SDK/tools folder then
adb push Market.apk /system/app
OR
Simply use your favourite Root File Manager (Root Explorer ,SU explorer , Android Commander etc.) and go to /system/app and delete Vending.apk .
Then put the New Market apk in /system/app
Restart your phone and you're good to go

I have SparksMOD . It should work on all CM 6.1 (Android 2.2.1) and all Froyo ROMS.
Make sure you restart your phone and follow my instructions carefully.
Also try running fix permissions from recovery incase it doesnt help.

You cannot replace or manage Android phone system files through normal File managers like Astro,Linda etc.
Best way I recommend is to Use Android Commander and follow the steps for installing without adb commands.
http://androidcommander.com/
i installed thru recovery and works great
on my G1 with 6.1 2708 is great. install via adb
why I do not see the category widgets and live wallpaper?
Hey..
Pity, it doesn't work for me.
I did it with the Root Explorer. Installation suceeded but i get a "force close" error message, when i try to select a program from the list or to go to "my downloads".
Changing back to the old one without problems.

Android FroYo (CM 6.1)

Cheers!
I used the qr code/barcode scanner in the following link and followed the on-screen instructions. Took it a few minutes but it worked and I have no errors.
Tmobile G1
EZterry 14mb radio/spl
Mytouch3g OTA 2.2.1 updated
Here is the link with the QR code, just use your favorite QR scanner and then open via url or open in browser. It should then start a download, after its done just follow the on screen directions to install (it back-up's the installed markets user data then deletes it and installs the new market. http : // androidspin . com / 2010 / 12 / 11 / new-android-market-update-unofficially-available-for-download/

Hello HellRazorGod. I have a G1. And I just got it rooted with Cyanogen 2.2 Froyo ROM. But then as you know, cyanogenMod doesn't come with google apps anymore. And then so I tried your android market maybe it will work. And before I downloaded yours, I found many market apk files from other source. But then it still wound't work. But when I tried yours. Still didn't work. I tried AndroidCommander. Adb and still with the same results. I open it, and it is just all white, and after about 5 seconds go back to desktop screen. I tried every possible way. And tried all your steps. Even with the AndroidCommander. Can you help me out? I have a Android 2.2 Froyo Cyanogen 6.1.0 DS ROM. Would really appreciate it.
fart23 did you download the gapps .zip file and then flash it after you flashed your rom. if not then you need to go check out cyanogens wiki how to root/install cyanogen rom.
Hi all.
I play with quite a few different roms, and currently add a little program apkinstaller to the rom before I load it.
I use the apkinstaller to first re-install TB off the SD card, and then I use TB to re-install everything else, then I go setup my accounts for market and syncing (don't need the cloud servers to do the re-installs wasting bandwidth).
It would be even better if I could put this apkinstaller and TB into a zip file which I could install after loading the rom.
If I can get it to load from a zip file, then I wouldn't even need the apk installer; I would just install TB from the zip file, reboot, and reload from there.
Where can I find information about what I need to do in a zip file to install an apk?
Thanks all.
Yeah I have the same question. Any one have any suggestions?
no-one able to assist
Seems there isn't much interest in replying - I assume this rather than no-one actually knowing.
I need my post count up anyway so I might as well reply with what I have seen. There was a thread somewhere else that I saw someone had a fresh_install.zip script to delete a set of files, and add launcher pro. I guess I need to pull that apart and see what I can work out from it. I only want to do the single file add, so it hopefully will be simple.
easier solution already available
Adding to my own thread again in case anyone else is interested.
I have been looking at the file, and have information about what would need to be done, but now find an easier alternative. It seems that many (most?) of the file managers have an apk installer built in. The roms typically come with a file manager, so I can just use that to start off my re-install process- nothing else required.
Will probably still play with the .zip file though just to understand what it needs.
I just installed the latest JB file from CM10, as announced on the site. The installation went smoothly, and without any problem. However, in the instructions provided, there was a link to the Google Apps for this version, named gapps-jb-20120717-signed.zip. I also downloaded the file, and it is also put under /sdcard on my tablet. But I can't install this zip file. I have CWM version 5.8.3.1 installed, which seemed to work fine with this CM JellyBean. I am getting an error message about the zip file when trying to install the Google Apps file mentionned above. On the announcement page with the links to download the files, they only give the links to the two -signed.zip files. I assumed that both zip files should be installed the same way, but it appears they are not. Can anyone help me ?
NB: I use the Samsung Docking station/keyboard. Anyone had any issue with this before ?
Thank
Extract the apk's from the zip folder and install them normally! Few apps won't install this way. Put those apk's in "system/app" and change the permission to rw-r--r--
Reboot your phone and the apps should be there!

Bad file
Although the file was pointed properly in the page, the actually downloaded file had a mad MD5 checksum, which was not displayed on the download link, only on the download page. I also noticed that after restarting, I had a strange display, where instead of having the default green wallpaper, I was having lines of random color bars. Another reboot, and it now seems to be fine again.
I also mentioned that I have this Samsung keyboard that attaches to the tablet, and has a replication port. The keys on the top, like Back, Home, etc, seem to work only half the time. More testing will be required on this.
Good Idea !

That's an idea, and I will also look at this. I guess this is what will give me the Google Apps program so I can re-download and/or reinstall the programs that I used to have under HoneyComb 3.2.
Thanks. I will try this too. :
Greetings everyone:
Yesterday, I updated to the latest Chrome on the RAZR HD MAXX with whatever the last Verizon software version is and then I used Titanium Backup to integrate into ROM so it replaced /system/app/ChromeSystemBrowser.apk with the new one, however when I open Chrome, I get the following message before Chrome just closes unexpectly:
"critical functionality required to run chrome is missing either your chrome installation is incomplete or not compatible with this version of android"
Replacing ChromeSystemBrowser.apk with either my previous version or even the one from the thread below still has the same exact error:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33546113&postcount=10
Does anyone know how to fix this? As I already tried clearing data.
Have you tried moving Chrome back to a user app? I think I saw this on another device and had to move it back to a user app for it to work.

Already tried that but no luck, the ChromeSystemBrowser.apk in the other thread is supposed to be the stock on in /system/app although I don't know for sure if it's the right one for the latest Verizon Wireless software version of ICS or not which may be the problem. Seems like some apps will only work as a user app with the original stock/shipping version in system.

Thanks, the problem is not the apk as I tried your apk with the same problem so what I did was did a uninstall and then reinstalled it from Google Play so first it worked fine in /data/app before I moved it to /system/app to make sure it works again before renaming the file. So it appears for whatever reason, even after a clear data, a lot of things were missing in the /data/data/com.android.chrome folder which were needed. Strange the apk didn't install them until a uninstall/reinstall.

Ok, so I'm probably a little dense - so please excuse that.
I'm having the same problem with Chrome; runs fine in the data/app folder ... but refuses to open when in the system/app folder. Tried it as a odex'd file ... as well as the apk. Did the full uninstall, reboot, reinstall thing - as well as using two separate cache deleting programs ... and it still crashes on me when in the system/app folder (but continues to run perfectly if it resides in the data/app folder).
HELP! (thanks, in advance, for your assistance)
{And while I know I could leave it in the data/app folder, I'm looking forward to the JB update from VZW, and figure it'll crash if all the right apk's aren't where they're supposed to be}
Think I found my own answer

I think I discovered a solution - that may help others. It appears that, in the system/app folder, a number of programs have BOTH an APK and an ODEX file present. I dropped the 4.0.4 Google Chrome apk into system/app, then installed the app from there. Then I moved the data/app installed version of Chrome to the system/app folder as an ODEX file (thus there's the Chrome apk AND odex file in the system/app folder). With both files present, the updated Chrome application runs as an updated system app.

You may be correct but what is the name of the ODEX version of the file in /system/app since I was thinking about that before but never found an odex file since I did noticed the apk's people provided as stock is less than 8MB while the Google Play version is like closer to 20MB.
