Explorer bugged up :o - General Questions and Answers

I've buggedup my explorer. A week or two ago i was installing a bunch of programs and everything seemed to be working fine, and then one day i was doing something and went to the windows directory, and explorer just simply bugged up, it only showed the hourglass icon (ok, it's not an hourglass but i don't know what exactly that icon is), and now everytime i start explorer it shows the same thing.
what can i do to fix tis? i'd like to be able to browse through win directory, or atleast to browse other dirs, i can use TC for win directory.

there are many threads about this, so next time try searching for a bit
anyway:
I got this problem when i was using a really slow rom a while back
i just had to leave it for ages and ages and ages and eventually it works itself out. Then you can go to other folders, but if going into the windows folder does this to your device, i wouldnt advise going to it again.
its boring waiting for it to respond but i hope it helps

now now cris
Try using total comander although that can be just as slow. But using file exp, ensure the view is on file name, not type. Displaying view as file type takes 10 times longer as it has to re-organise all the files, viewing by name you will see a MASSIVE difference in speed.

Hi, having some problems with my Touch Pro

Please bear with me, as this is my first windows mobile phone and I'm not all too familiar with it.
First problem is, tapping "Launch Browser" on the Internet tab does not work. After thinking about it for a while, I realized that the Opera browser was not installed on my device! Now, as far as I know, it should come already in all devices. So, I downloaded the Opera 9.5 browser off their website. How can I set it up so when I tap "Launch Browser" on the Internet tab, Opera 9.5 will automatically run? Currently tapping it still does nothing.
Second is, I've been hearing about this "Windows" folder in the HTC Touch Pro. I can't seem to locate this. When I browse for it with my computer, the name of the TP's "hard drive" is "\", and then I see the following folders:
Application Data, ConnMgr, Content, Documents and Settings, Music, My Documents, Program Files, cemail (hidden file), pim
Is this root folder the "Windows" folder?
Third thing is, in the "Programs" tab in TF3D, there's this icon there that when I press (looks like the default icon for a folder in Vista), it gives me an error. It says "The file 'wt5jetpr' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
There we go, that's all. Thank you, if you've read this far.
I can't help with the Opera thing but as for your Windows folder, it's a system file and hidden. You will have to unhide it in your Vista/XP operating system before you can see it using your PC>
You see, I already enabled the viewing of hidden folders. There aren't any other items other than the ones I listed.
EDIT: I tried creating a folder called "Windows" and Vista tells me I can't, because a folder of the same name already exists.
That's weird.. hidden folders are already enabled and I still can't see it.
Hiya, i'm a bit of a noob myselft with regards to wm6.1 so for the opera issue i dont think i could be much help with that same with the file that wont delete so i hope someone else will answer that, to see ur windows folder though when the phone is connected to the pc open up explorer on ur pc and click on tools/folder options then click on view and make sure either the "hide protected operating system files" box is unchecked &/or the "show hidden system files box is checked and this should let you see the windows folder.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: looks like someone already answered in the time it took me to type that, my own fault for multitasking ...

Same thing as you, when I browse to the device from Windows Explorer.
However, if I go to Tools - Folder Options - View tab and I select "Show hidden files and folders", the Windows directory is displayed.

By the name, it looks like it is JetCet Print 5.
Strange you have these errors. Do you use a custom ROM?
PS: been too slow to answer too. but at least the answers match ;-)
I'm not using a custom rom =\. The rom came with my device.
It's:
1.90.405.1.WWE
It's a HTC Touch Pro T7272
Then I advise you to do a Hard Reset. Opera and JetCet print should be there, and should not give you any certificate errors.
I advise you to read a lot these forums, gather as much info as you can, and experimenting with your device. You have a powerhouse in your hands, you know? you have unlimited possibilities. Any questions should you have must be asked.
Alright, I'll give that a try tomorrow after the day's gone so I have lots of time to figure things out.
Sorry for the double post, but I figure this message won't get read if I simply edit my last post.
Anyways, I hard resetted the device and I got Opera and that printing program working! Thanks creiz.
Just one last thing I'm trying to figure out.. is there any way I can get a custom alarm ring tone without downloading a program? (I'm trying to avoid having to do that if possible)

File Explorer taking forever to display Windows sub-directory

On my Fuze, when selecting to see the Windows sub-directory, it takes FOREVER to display. Even if you shutdown File Explorer or reboot and restart File Explorer it just picks up working to try to display the Windows subdirectory. I also tried Resco Explorer to see if it might be the File Explorer program. I received similar results.
Any ideas? Could there be something unique about this sub directory or maybe something with the File System?
It has A LOT of files to load. that's why. It takes long for me also. A little faster on Total Commander though.
get advanced config and do the fatfs cache tweaks - my windows dir contains 4436 files/folders - after tweaking it takes file explorer around 4 seconds to enumerate the directory. total commander takes around 5 seconds (but that was ordering by date, not name)
I have noticed that it is greatly affected if you install all of your apps to the device. I did a hard reset just to check this, and it loaded in about 3 seconds while completely default. With several apps installed it now takes about 10 seconds. Pain in the butt if you left it in windows and it opens the windows directory when you start file explorer.
How much does the advance config tweak help? Also are there any adverse affects by doing the tweak?
I already have all of the fatfs tweaks applied thru the Advanced Configuration utility. It seesI have installed a lot of stuff that just goes into the Windows sub-directory. I'm now trying tofind out which of these files are extraneous and will get rid of them.
Thanks for all of the suggestions! If there are any more I will certainly try them.
Load up one of the latest leaked ROMs (either the AT&T one or the WWE one), or a cooked ROM based on that and you'll see HUGE improvements.
One thing that seems to affect it though is installing a different version of Manilla (especially a CFC one with HD contacts).

This issue can be fixed if you can manage to set attributes to hidden on the files you add into your sys and oem. I have done this on HERMES and our windows directory loads on all 6.1 roms in less than a second

would i have to do this when building the rom? Or can I change the attributes of sys files, say using total commander or the like?

Sorry for my lagg there umm you will need to hide modules in sys and oem before cooking rom.. it works great on the 6.1 builds we have made
It depends on what programs you have installed. I installed a .cab that replaces your TF3D theme to the original one w/a flip clock. After words it took almost an entire minute to load up my windows directory.
well..considering some of the tf3d themes have 1000 or so files, that might have something to do with it.

yep. thats why it's sweet when it's cooked in and set files to hidden as your rom will run soo fast

Cab file downloadng?

Firstly apologies for the noob question, I'm still very new to this WinMo stuff. And secondly I've searched about the forum all day but still having problems....
I've just got an HD2 and wanting to put some of the tweaks on it I've found via this site. When downloaded on my PC I'm faced with 4 or so files, two or three perhaps starting with a 'cab' file name and the other a reg or set up file. Basically what do I then do with these files? With the phone conected via USB I went into the deice memory and dropped all the files into the memory, did a soft reset, but nothing happened, no extra feature etc. Phone just started up as normal. Sorry for my 'thickness' lol. Would welcome any advice or a pointer to somewhere where it may be already written.
Thanks.
Do not unzip the .cab place on phone and browse phone with File Explorer, click on the .cab and install to Device....
It's a common noob mistake as .cab's are compressed archives so look like .zips on computer....
Thanks for the quick reply, I'll give that a go....
after dropping them on the device you have to run them. Open File Explorer and just launch them from there. A setup will be launched usually.
Thanks for the above advice, worked a treat.
Well I've had no problem putting cab files onto my HD2, however now I want to remove a few of them. Not sure how to remove the actual thing that I've changed??? I go into the device memory and I can delete the cab itself but the 'change' still remains, such as new task bar icons etc.
Any help appreciated....
settings -> add remove programs
just like on a computer
Oh yes of course, makes sense now. Many thanks

Deleting history gave me 2gig of space!!

Hi people.
Was doing a little game play testing today when I re-downloaded hydro thunder to test it with the 360 controller. The thing is when I did it took like a minute to download and install. With the file size been 400mb I knew they was something up.
So as title says I went to control panel then internet options and deleted temporary files and history and bam 2.1gig extra. I find it silly that when you uninstall apps it keeps over half of the install size in the cache, stupid really.
And on another note when playing games on surface rt, playing with the 360 control removes all lag spikes.
Just did some browsing and maybe something else was involved. When I looked at the folder containing my temporary internet files, the largest was < 1MB. Nothing there looked like any remnants of an app. I will take a look at running the cleanup app, though. While nothing _should_ be left behind, I can easily believe that something would be left behind....

Yes I found it odd, do me a favour download something large in size. Uninstall it then reinstall , it will take minutes to reinstall. Something is definitely going on here.
When updating Store apps, you'll often get an old copy of the app left as well, for some reason (as in, sitting in the \Program Files\WindowsApps install location). Disk Cleanup may take care of that, though.

Ugh - owned and locked by "Trusted Installer" - bane of my existence when it comes to system files and such. Hoping I can get to it on the Surface, but haven't tried yet. I'm always wary of trying to change permissions like this just because of what could break.
It may be owned by TruestedInstaller, but it's writable by Adminstrator. Just alunch an Admin CMD or Powershell prompt, and you can delete stuff to year herat's content. If you want a GUI, here's one way: launch Notepad (fromt eh Admin prompt), then use File -> Open and treat the Open dialog as an Explorer window. Explorer itself will refuse to run as Admin; if you try, it will downgrade its own permissions.
I cannot even get into program files to check, It says i do not have the rite permissions . And i do not even know where to start to allow it?

Administrator prompt worked. However, looking through there on my Windows 8 work machine, I didn't see any leftover files (which is good). I haven't tried it on the Surface yet, but will try to do that later. Thanks for the tip.

Where on Earth is the path to my downloads folder?

OK. So far I am aware of 2 download locations.
The first is the SD card, which I have transferred all files to my computer to make space on the card. I did that easily through windows explorer when my phone was connected to the PC. The path is Computer\Xperia Z3\Internal storage\Download. Or sdcard1/ I believe on my phone.
Next is the INTERNAL storage download location. For the life of me I cannot find this ANYWHERE. It doesn't show up on my PC file explorer, because I guess it's in the root of the phone, and I can't find it with root file explorer either. There's absolutely no indication as to where it is actually located on my phone. I have 5GB+ of apps and pics I want to transfer to my PC, but I can't do that until I know the path!
Here's a photo of the app that brings me to that location (bottom of the screen, "downloads")
And this is what it looks like when I open the app, and pull the menu over. As you can see, download...
This has been racking my brain for almost 4 hours now. Please please help me out.

As you can see, this is my downloads that I want to transfer, as seen from the "downloads" app in my...
And THIS is the new Asus file manager I am trying out, and I HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUE (The download...
Please tell me what I am doing wrong?
I just tried another app. SAME PROBLEM AGAIN.
Left is my downloads folder (it doesn't tell me what the path is and that's what I NEED) And on the right is the app, Solid Explorer. WHY IS IT EMPTY WHEN THE LEFT PICTURE CLEARLY SHOWS I HAVE FILES????
