SMS via WiFi on WinMo? - General Topics

Are there any applications/services (note, not websites) that would allow me to send SMS messages both ways over WiFi? I have a few places I visit regularly with little to no signal and I would like to be able to continue to exchange SMS messages over a WiFi connection on my HTC Touch Pro. Extra points if it integrates with my today screen, contacts list, or system notifications.

Just use your email address and send messages to an sms address. I.E. #@vtext.com

Yes but I have to know their carrier and will they be able to reply?

Yes. Just ask them what carriers they use.

Ok thank you.
Now if only I could get Windows Live Hotmail to play a notification sound when a new e-mail is received.

You can.
Go to: Settings - Notifications - Messaging: New email message
Click Play Sound and choose what you want.

i have been using GV lately, love it esp because i can sms from my pc, but does anyone know of a way to push sms to phone, because the official GV app only does pull or you have to manually refresh the app to get sms, i wish it was instant.

You can change how often it updates but I think the lowest you can go is every 5 min.
and that still doesnt always refresh properly. I even searched on GV help forum the refresh 5 min rate sometimes doesnt work.
Isn't there a setting in Google Voice to forward SMS to your mobile number? Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but it does give you "push" SMS...

When i had my iphone i faced this problem. What you can do is create another gmail address, i.e. [email protected], go into your g voice settings in a browser and set it to forward sms to above email address. since the gmail app on android is push, you will get an email with the sms in it. you can reply to it just like you would a normal sms.

Could you also just make a label to filter them out, then you wouldn't even need a new address?

Yes, you could, which is actually what i do now since i dont need that method anymore. they forward to my regular email address, get a label applied and marked as read. Then if i need to reply from my computer i can just reply from my email rather than having to log into gv.
I had them seperated at first though on the iphone so i could keep the accounts seperate. hated digging through emails to find sms'

[App Request] Google Voice Widget

As a Google voice user it sucks not being able to use those widgets that allow you to see your SMS messages on the home screen or apps like SMS Popup. Now since Google Voice has push messages it would be cool to see some widgets and apps that take advantage of it. Getting to the point now, can anybody make a widget that shows your incoming Google Voice messages?

Are you saying you don't like the current form of notification that just shows an indicator in the tray at the top? Just curious.
No I just hate not being able to use those widgets that show your sms messages.
Sort of like the SMS widget on Sense?

Lots of work-arounds but I'm with you. Wish there was a widget or popup.
You could go into your GV Settings and have your SMS forwarded to your phone, which would put them in your SMS widgets and popups. However, that defeats the purpose of having free SMS with Google Voice, which is why I stopped forwarding the messages to my phone when the new Push version of the app came out.
You could also go into GV Settings and have SMS forwarded to your gmail address, and then the texts would show up in any Gmail widget, such as Pure Messaging Widget. You can reply to the SMS via email.

That is a good idea but I've found that forwarding SMS messages to GMail to not be that reliable. Inbox Syncronizaiton usually gets me my message on time.
i would like to see the fancy little chat bubbles in gvoice sms
superficial, i know lol
however, the notification bar only says "google voice, 1 unread message" not a brief summary of the message which would be cool
This is why I bounce between using the GV app and fwd mt texts. I'd love an SMS notify widget for google voice. Im sure the dev could add th4e option to use it with GV.

DROID PRO - on-screen notification for Corp. Sync email with native email app

I use Launcher Pro with a hidden notification bar. Because of that, I can't tell when I get a new work email when my phone is on silent. I currently use the native email app with my corporate sync account. Is there any way to achieve an on screen notification?
I wanted it to be like my Tasker+minimalistic text missed call widget, but apparently that's not possible.
Unreadsmscount doesn't support the native app, so that's another one out the window.
I'm not sure this is what you're looking for but Email Notifier allows you to have a pop up window showing when you receive a new email.

Tried it. That would be perfect, if it worked with the native email app. Unfortunately, it does not
Does anyone have any more suggestions?

[APP] ICalledYou (Missed Call Alert)

This application keeps track of SMS notifications of incoming calls when you are not available, each mobile operator provides a different name (Missed Call Alert).
- When you receive one of these SMS you will get a notification and a call log with your contacts is updated.
- Clicking on items in the list you can call, send SMS, see the contact details, etc...
- The Find SMS feature allows to clean up SMS messages by importing older calls in the program
This program is free and supported by ads banner and reviews on the Market.
If you are a customer of a not supported mobile operator, or have problems in the recognition of SMS, send me an e-mail with the text message that usually get.
NOTE:
- Any Task Killer can interfere with the operation of the application. Be sure to place the application on the white list.
- If you use Handcent SMS, GoSMS or other applications to manage SMS remember to activate priority option in Settings.
- Finally, to make the application work it must have been opened at least once after installation.
Please post a reply with the text of the SMS you usually receive to let me add support of your country.

email query please.

This may have been covered before, but i can't seem to find anything on it, so please forgive my ignorance if it has.
I have a S3 Gear Frontier, i have the stock email app on my watch, and use the same stock email with 4 different accounts set up on my phone and as my email hits my phone (S6 Edge) it hits my watch (Great!)
What i want to do is check the email via watch (without taking my phone out of my pocket) read it and delete it, But, go into my phone at a later stage and either reply, or move it to a desired set up folder, or delete if not required.
Can i do this? Is there an option to be able to delete it from watch and not from phone? Or am i missing something in settings on phone / watch?
Really appreciate any info on this one, thanks in advance

I use aquamail as my main mail app and I can view all the emails, dismiss notifications and erase mails from the watch
Thanks for getting back, if you delete from aquamail does it still leave your email on the phone? Or does it delete on the phone aswell?

Mails are deleted on the phone as well, and marked as read on aquamail when I open them on the phone
I use Aquamail. On Gear we have juste notification and notification action for each mail : Read, delete... You can not check (or view) your mail from the watch, just incoming notification.
With Samsung mail app we can view all the phone mail with the watch mail app.

I check and view all my incoming mail from my watch. I can read the full email, dismiss notification or delete the message. Of course I can't access old mail, only the incoming messages

Yes just notification (like all other smartwatch) , no check mail in the mailbox like samsung mail app. And only few lines of the mail, not complete mail and often not enough to see what about mail.
