Music dock for Android?

Hey all, I was wondering if there is something like a music dock for Android phones. Something like the Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 would look great. Something that has a remote control and communicates with the device (not just headphone jack in). If it works with iProducts then even better.
Suggestions?

If i am not mistaken a new mode was have to be incorporated into android as unlike the iphone that has a dock mode using its cable all the android devices either have mini usb or propriatary jacks that use the same usb specs in a different form factor!!
The best bet would be to use the standard audio jack but sell a bluetooth remote control to go with it, then using a modded open source music player and bluetooth drivers supplied by the dock maker do the functions you have suggested!!
I would buy one!!

Bluetooth remote hey? Haven't seen any around (that would work with android). I'd still prefer a dock like I described since I would then need only one remote control, not two.

yeah your way sounds the best, its just getting that feature added to Android as as ASOP so the phone would be able to take commands via usb as it seems it would need to be a system level command chain! so pluggin it in and seeing it popping up saying mass storage, pc suite, charge only and also have an Audio docking option would be the ultimate goal before the docks go into the design room!
Or maybe the dock is bluetooth 2.0 and all it does is hold the phone and charge it? that would take hardly any modification!! these are the ideas that need putting to companies like creative etc!! they should have no bother making models for the HTC ranges! and maybe samsung

No bluetooth please, sound quality over AD2P sucks.
A decent solution would be a standard 3,5mm-connected remote interface, just like on corded Nokia or Apple handsfree; luckily enough SGS's sound quality is decent.
A USB connector would simply be astounding, although quite difficult to implement: remember the iphone has a line out in its bottom connector so a dock is kinda straight-forward to make; going through USB either means rerouting the line out from the DAC (impossible to realize just with software) or creating a standardized driver to connect an external DAC. Read: nobody is gonna do it, as no big company is willing to go through the trouble of making something (very) hi-end only.

Considering that most Android phones can connect in USB mode, there could be an external dock that plays the mp3s' on the phone. On the other hand, this makes your phone no different than a flash disk.
Shouldn't there be a protocol for docking this kind of devices? I think phone makers are really losing the game by not creating a protocol for wired music docking, the result is that there is a TON of peripheral for iProducts (from hifi to cars) but almost none for anything else. Crying shame.
In the end a 3.5mm would be the most realistic solution but still, i'd like some sort of remote control.

i would be quite happy with a cable that has a male 3.5mm on one end and a female apple dock connector on the other.
you wouldnt have problems then when you were round at a party and all they got is an ipod dock with no line in.

Its just tap 1 button and play the music via bluetooth (A2DP), very nice quality.

I suppose the above are both working solutions, though I don't really like the Dock input cable. I mean, you lose the ability of remote controlling your player and you would use that only with iPod / iPhone enabled hifi systems, which I find redundant (why buy such a hifi system if you have Android? Then again if you already have one, that changes things).

to be honest it wouldnt take much to develope the librarys for the controls through a usb cable, but with no ones builds being asop and a non general development tree with the xda scene as it is, it would be virtually impossible to the get this now very fragmented market of phones to have a standard for docks! heh i might even put this to someone I have consulted for in the US about bluetooth technologys to see what he thinks!

I think the idea would best apply to "personal hifi systems". Something like boom-boxes or even small audio systems. These could provide basic functionality through their standard lcd screen and remote control, but when you add a phone on, they'd have a really nice looking screen and new features (depending on the phone itself). Bluetooth can already music-pair with other devices but I think there are better prossiblities using USB (not to mention that your phone would be charging at the same time).
I think it's time for people to stop looking at docking as gimmicky and start developing docking methods that actually add to the user experience as well as functions.

When you think about how many media functions a modern smart phone has its crazy even samsung dont start shipping range specific docks for android devices!
I would love nothing more than my phone being on a dock over night charging! when i wake up to the alarm/custom song/internet radio station i press a button that keeps the music on then pops up todays appointments and meetings on my calendar! Then to top it off a text to speech engine reads out the headers from all my emails before cooking my breakfast and kissing me on the cheek goodbye

Unfortunately I think we may have missed Christmas (!!) but I believe there is something in the pipeline from one manufacturer that is developing Android docking solutions for later this year.

why I can't send and receive any file thru bluetooth on my samsung focus mango ( 7720) , it asks me to tap for pairing and when i key in the code ( 0000 ) I get the messaage : device not supported

You can send files through one wp7 device to the other though!

In other words no because right now WP sucks and Microsoft doesn't care what we want or need they only care about $$$$$.

Nonsense. The platform has to evolve according to priorities, meaning that the things people use *most* need to be polished and working *first*. I own an Android tablet and used to have an iPhone; know how many times I've used bluetooth file transfer? ONCE. And that was just to see if it worked.

It's evolving at a very slow rate of speed, Bluetooth file transfer has been around since the 90's and is a very common function on just about every phone. They are not polishing anything all the do is locked the phone down more and more with each update. Is it me or does anyone notice how WP is following in the same exact foot steps as the iphone? When the iPhone came out it hand no cut and paste, it had no start screen wallpaper, how about iTunes and Zune. I can understand people defending WP because I use to and still do some what but I have a WP device, do you know how many other people have one? None! And there is a reason for that just look at WP sales and where they fall, they are behind Blackberry for God's sake, Blackberry, the lamest phone and OS. MS needs to wake up and take their head out of the cloud or Apples tactics or they will fail big time. I use to wonder why Verizon didn't support WP and now I know why, no one wants a limited, dictated iPhone clone. In fact WM was better than the iphone because of that but MS never really put forth effort into it or took the cell phone market seriously that's why Google took advantage of the situation and now Android picked up where MS left off.

If you are forwarding contacts... use the app called forward contact and use a qr code... way better!
If you are transferring a file, hit save to skydrive then share it with the skydrive app... or... hit share and choose email.
Bluetooth transfer is such a waste of battery and i for one never found a real good use for it.

That is true, if you are a normal everyday consumer that doesn't know how to go online and look up XDA Developers you would never know that that option didn't exist on WP. They don't tell you the phones limits on commercials or at your local cell phone store of course but get you all hyped up into buying one. I feel sorry for people who are not savvy and have to figure out stuff too late when they already bought the phone.

I'm not here to argue whether or not WP7 needs bluetooth transfer but a simple search would have gotten someone their answer.
The point here is that if it wasn't such a big deal for someone before they bought the phone, or else they would have checked beforehand, why is it such a big deal now?

Anyhow, since bluetooth hardware is already physically implemented in the phone, it is not impossible to improve it. Although you may use network (3G+WIFI) for data sharing via mail, whatsapp, viber, facebook, virtual drive, dropbox or whatever you imagine, the cloud is not 100% secure (look at megaupload, what you have on the cloud doesn't belong to you)
and will lead to total failure in case you have no signal coverage or you use the phone as a handheld (suppose you have only one SIM and two or three phones, the other obviously won't have GSM/3G signal and maybe you don't have wifi access when you like)
So, if it is already hardware implemented, not much difficult to improve it.

I don't ever remember having to transfer a file so urgently i couldn't wait until i got network coverage or got home. It doesn't seem like a situation you'd run into on a normal day.
There are a lot of things that could be added to windows phone. They could be added quickly and untested (and may not work properly/cause issues) or time could be taken to add them correctly taking time to debug and issues. MS is taking the latter approach.
Personally i prefer a phone which does 90% of what i need properly because they spent their time and effort on that, rather than a phone which does 100% of what i need badly because they are spending time on something that isn't needed the majority of the time (*cough*likeandroid*cough*).

I second that as well. Android for example, has several issues and can take months to years to be fixed or even never (example: http://www.google.co.il/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=55d64c4d1aa1664c&hl=en).
On the other side iPhone for example has less features but they usually solve the issue within a week that is a top quality support.
I prefer the second approach, if I have to choose.

There's iBluetooth for iPhone for Bluetooth transfers. Windows Phone must be the only major OS which doesn't have any Bluetooth transfer options available. Isn't there any possibility of a hack or some 3rd party XAP (like iBluetooth) which enables bluetooth transfers?

Yeah I tried to explain that to users but most of them attacked me and provoked arguments stating that Bluetooth is too 1990's and that I might as well ask for punch card technology and so on. Windows Phone is the only one that doesn't allow this as far as I know. Too bad but Windows Phone 8 is coming and lets hope MS comes to their senses.

Well, no matter, it's great news that DFT have at last released a hack for enabling bluetooth transfers ! Man, I'm elated ! All I have to do now is to fully hack my Samsung Focus, and I'm ready to reap the benefits. Well, I hope an interop unlock comes out for bluetooth transfers, because I won't be hacking the phone at least for a couple of months.

Well here is what’s needed by me and by general demand that I noticed:
We need an application that will enable an android device (a tablet for instance) to act as a Bluetooth headset and dialer for another phone

I have been asking for the same thing, Moscow Desire is looking into it with LeeDroid to try and implement something by porting it from a phone I think...I'm waiting on pins and needles.

In the thread they are trying to get bluetooth headsets to work on a tablet.
We are looking for an app that can get a tablet to connect to a phone and make calls.
For example, I have my tablet built into my car and connectet to my car radio via cable. It would be nice if it could make and receive calls.

Hi! I have been searching for the same solution from months but the onle thing i have found is,

so untill any developer work on true bluetooth applitacation which can fulfill our needs this is the only thing we can use.

I started a thread on this then discovered that it's been asked plenty of times before. After doing research I have discovered the following things:
1) It is possible to replace the Bluetooth stack on Android
2) We would have to make Android play the role of the hands free and not an audio gateway

4) The stack on Android is BlueZ
5) The devs at Cyanogen mod have been working with the Android Bluetooth stack
From what I can see, we would have to modify the Hands-Free Profile in the Bluez stack to play the hands-free role. If we could somehow load in another profile or edit the existing one, that might do the trick. I'm not too familiar with Bluetooth, but I will be going over code tonight to see if I can come up with an idea.

touchpad webos has this capibility
I have a hp touchpad with cynogenmod 9 that dual boots to webos. In webos, i can link via bluetooth to my blackberry phone. I can call and receive via a dialer app in webos. I have not been able to figure out how to do this on the android boot. I can pair the device but haven't figured out how to do in android. Hoping since wedos went open there might be an app for android to mirror the webos capibility.

I've posted support for this development in a number of forums and in other threads here at XDA. This would be a huge deal for the 'android-as-car-stereo' idea. There are a number of suppliers that make USB-->DAC-->RCA(composite) converters, and that takes the shoddy internal DAC out of the equation for most tablets. All that is left is the need for bluetooth call transfers to the tablet.

I have a Bluetooth transmitter (B-Speech RTX1) attached to my AV-receiver and want to use my phone with headphones as a speaker system. There has to be an app that plays the stream once we can connect a transmitter via HFP profile with the phone I guess...
I don't know if my wish is related to this thread, but there is a thread explaining how to enable HFP in Android by editing the "audio.conf".
I get the new options but am not able to connect the transmitter to my phone. I guess I will have to buy BT-headphones...

I just tried the method posted in the link above by hudl.. but it didn't work. My tablet still pairs with my phone like before, no way to connect them, nor the "use for phone audio" option from my phone to the tablet. :-( Still no solution as of yet.

I'd love to see this and would happily pay towards development of this. Parrot Asteroid seems to handle incoming HFP, HSP and A2DP profiles very well. I too have modified the audio.conf file and can also see the additional options.. My phone just doesn't know what to do with it!
Is there anyone who can point this thread in the right direction? It's the only piece of the puzzle left for android carpc tablet goodness.

Parrot did it for sure. It would be an awesome feature. I wish things just worked like that by default... someone needs to re-invent a BT-like connection where everything on a device is exposed... a phone should be a BT keyboard/mouse/airmouse/headset/speaker/monitor/camera/drive/sdreader/modem/gps/serial-console/etc as well as being on the opposite end of each of those things. And without needing a separate app for each of those things that is even possible/created.

I see alot of threads around xda requesting miscellaneous apps or ports. I have written down a lot of my ideas and I'm not quite to the stage where I can make them myself, and I'm sure a few others are in the same boat. I don't see much of a point to keeping them a secret when there are alot of capable developers around here. If there are developers out there with free time that see a cool idea in this thread, try to give a mention to the person if you create the app!
3rd party app toggle
Just an app similar to adb toggle, that quickly toggles on 3rd party app installs. It's not secure to leave it on all the time, and for people with settings locked it can cut the time taken to install a 3rd party app. If you're an overachiever try toggling all app installs, not just 3rd party.
Password Scanner
Basically an app that just scans /data for SQLite entries and lists items associated with password fields. Plaintext is enough to make it useful for a lot of people, with options of a pro-version that cracks encrypted passwords.
Car Remote
This is the most challenging one I've thought of. It's an app that uses the device's radio antennas to unlock cars that have remote control locks. Time Machine
I thought of this while reading en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_problem
A mod/app that messes with the clock to cause app compatibility issues, which could enable potential root exploits on devices which don't have current root methods. This one is risky because it is likely it result in bricks (yet another use if you want a device to be bricked in the event of a theft). I'm unsure if something like this would need root access to work.
Share your ideas! My apologies if any of these have been thought of, it wouldn't be the first time I've rethought the wheel.

oh don't let me get started on the list of ports I want haha. Top 3 would probably be cain & abel, cisco packet tracer, and something like encase.
cs6 is would be nice for sure though, adobe is really slacking with their tablet app. I see something like gimp coming before photoshop due to it's source being more available.

i would really like something like frozen synapse on a phone i think it would work really well.

I think car remotes work on the 400-500mhz spectrum so it will take some research to how compatible it could be with most phones, and that's not even exploring dongles.

My Nissan Altima Remote operates on 315Mhz whereas
Bluetooth operates on 2400–2480 MHz
GPS operates on 1575.42 & 1227.60 Mhz
Wifi operates on 2.4, 3.6 and 5 GHz
IR operates on 33 to 40 kHz or 50 to 60 kHz
All these antennae are not capable to transmit in any frequency band, they have been hardwired to operate on a particular band to save money and be power efficient.

Create a 'Date' contact ?
G'Day Guys
I have been searching for an app. now for a few years & have not been able to find one that 'fits the bill'
When I get a phone call from a new contact ( so not currently in the contact list )
Create the contact with the name as date eg. DD MM YYYY & mark it as blocked
Anyone know if an app. exists that can do this ?
or
Anyone interested in deving this app. for me ?
BTW - I have 40+ years experience programming in Assembler, C, Basic etc. & I built Palm apps. in C & built a couple of droid apps approx. 5 years ago with Phone Gap. Buy, not wanting to have to setup the environment for a simple droid app. dev.

[Q] Is the Nvidia Shield Tablet the right tablet for me?

I have been on the look out for a tablet for quite some time now.
Some background information:
I am currently a University student, and I enjoy power hungry video games like Diablo3 (if you think d3 isn't power hungry, ok. It isn't the point of the thread.)
I owe a gaming pc - Nvidia 660Ti, and a Tablet / Ultrabook Hybrid - Asus Taichi 31.
I live in Malta. (A&T and T-Mobiles are not available, I have yet to contact them wheter they are willing to offer their services from abroad regarding a data plan) (to my knowledge acquired from these forums, there is currently no possible way to integrate voice calling / smsing with the mini sim. The mini sim is only used for data transfer correct?)
I understand barely nothing about android, roms and kernals, I am studying for a pharmacist. What little I know is mostly about desktops from my interest and sources are typically the internet and some local technicians I enjoy chatting with. (if any1 can point me to a good beginner guide, that would be great)
I am currently looking for something that is able to:
replace my phone - just calls and sms. My lack of education on android devices and a very narrow google search lead me to believe there are apps with this ability if you are always connected to an internet connection? which wouldnt be a problem with the LTE/4G?
good alternative for an mp3 player - main issue: buttery life - size doesn't matter because I use bluetooth headphones
use XBMC hub - i think this tablet can easily handle it
take decent quality photos
stream games from long distances (when I am at university example, from my home) - is the only limiting factor the speed of the internet connection? Is it possible to connect the internet via a cable? (ethernet to mini usb converter?)​
My two main priorities are calling/texting and battery life.
I am yet to find a store who has this tablet on display so I can have a feel of the tablet, I do not know if 8'' is ridiculously large to carry around. And I think it also falls within personal preference.
What would you, if in my shoes, get? Should I look for a phablet? I personally find smart phones have a small screen, and the only use I have out of a phone is to text and call, so I would like to have the good out of both ends.

It can meet your needs. You can use Google Voice # and hangouts to make/receive calls. It is a beast at gaming and the nvidia game stream is great, however its huge. In my opinion WAY to big to be used as an everyday phone, and would only allow speak phone calls or through a blue tooth. The call quality is good though.
If you want a tablet I recommend it. However if you want a phone I suggest using a phone.
I would get the tablet then get a Moto G or a Moto E for free and use it as your phone.

GV is google voice? Yes I live in Malta, and thank you I didn't know that.
Is there any other way possible to have voice call / texting possibilities on this tablet?
