password protection - G1 Android Development

is there a way to password protect certains files and or folders and or apps on my Dream, if there isnt..... then one of you badass devs should get oni =]

do you just need to hide it from the people who may browse on your phone? Or really need security if someone stole it.
If it's just from friends playing with it, hide pictures and such, there is one. It's called "Hide N' Seek, and to the untrained eye, its just a flashlight app. But if you press menu 3 times, and then enter in your corresponding password, you can "hide" files. However all it really does is add ".hide" to the extention, so its no longer a .jpg or .mov, etc. So your programs wont pic it up.
It costs $1 and is on the market. There may be a free version, I'm not sure.

soo lets see how this works!!!

Simple Way to Protect Folders?

Hi all
just a quick question does anyone know of a simple app that will allow me to password protect a folder(s) on the PDA WM5.
I dont want nothing fancy, no encryption, no other features other than when someone tries to open a folder they must enter a password.
I have tried looking arround and all i can find are encryption/security software, not just the simple app that I'm looking for
Cheers
Secret porn stash?
I wish, my company is going to deploy Universals to the workforce and i want to be able to lock certain folders ie settings etc so they dont mess and end up buggering them up
If you don't find what you are looking for and decide an encrypter is the next best thing, I can recommend Airscanner Mobile Encrypter, which you can pick up for free.
Hi FOZZER!
If you are looking to protect device settings, blocking folders really isn't the way to go.
1st settings isn't a real folder. Yes there is such a folder under windows\start menu but it is usually empty. The contents you see in 'settings' is compiled automatically by windows from cpl files and such, just like 'control panel' on the PC.
If I remember correctly, if you delete the the settings folder, it will disappear from start menu and average user won't be able to access device settings.
To make things harder you can delete the link to file explorer so people will be less likely to mess with the device.
There is a thread here somewhere about doing just this sort of things. Try searching for 'kiosk' and not just this site.

Change App/Widget name?

I was wondering if anyone knows, or has looked into at all a way to change the names displayed before widgets on the home screen. Like change "Google Talk" to just "Talk" Or "Google Voice" to just "Voice"
Sorry if this has been asked I didn't see anything when I searched.
It has been asked, but i think it envloves taking apart the files included in the APK and then adjusting them as necessary. But, doing that requires that you have the ability to resign the file. It's seems like alot of work. Also notice alot of the programs are called com.*** this is a java naming convention that tends to be passed off to lots of programs.
you could also grab a program called AnyCut. it lets you create shortcuts for anything, including people (straight to text or call), programs, certain settings, etc, and lets you name it whatever you want
its free in the market.
Thanks for the info, I'll check out AnyCut

Gallery app that can nest folders/Subfolders

OK, so I have a LOT of pictures on my phone. I am also in a band and a lot of them are from each show. I hate having so many folders for all my pix in the Gallery though.
What I would like, is to be able to set like a root folder that contains the subfolder.
(E.G.) Right now is it like...
Bands name 3.23.09
Bands name 4.20.10
Bands name 5.15.10
etc
I would just like to see "Bands name" and when I click on that see all the "Nested subfolders" like....3.23.09, 4.20.10, 5.15.10, etc.
If there is a work around to make the default gallery do this, it would make my day. If not any app recommendations that resemble the default gallery but do what I am looking for?
Thanks in Advance.
I'm looking for the same exact thing.
Anyone had any luck finding something like this?
Have you tried Quickpic? I'm not sure if it does exactly what you need but it's a hundred times better than 'Gallery'!
i am searching for SAME thing.
want a program that can
1. let me make multiple PLAYLISTS of photo's !!!!!
this CANNOT be that difficule.
2. allow selection of MAIN folder, and allow random playing/viewing , as slideshow, of ALL CONTAINED photo's, no matter which subfolder !
my mom is 83 years old, dad is 93. we bought them an android to do photo shows. Picture frames are useless; they can't comprehend concept of truly random.
Quickpic is very GOOD at showing a default slideshow (either ordered or random) of the SUBFOLDER you select, but it will NOT allow playing of all slides in the PARENT folder (recursing to subfolders).
I want to make slideshow LISTS, for my mom, so she can select various ones
similar to ipod, add all your music, then make playlists, play groups of what you want, IN ORDER, OR random (shuffle), your pick
any feedback appreciated.
Have looked at most of the other photo players in android, same story ; even apple players don't do the best
thanks

[Q] flag pictures as "favorite" or to "reject" like in Adobe Lightroom

[Q] flag pictures as "favorite" or to "reject" like in Adobe Lightroom
Hi there,
I spent already some time testing several "best" pictures organizers or photo viewers such as QuickPic, JustPictures etc. (the ones I found with some Google searching).
They all miss one feature I need: to flag a picture "to reject" and to flag as favorite with a simple gesture (not from the menu) (e.g. swipe up for positive/favorite, swipe down for negative/reject, or double tap to flag them, 3 taps to unflag or so...).
If you use Adobe Lightroom you already know how useful is to "flag" with the "P" (as favorite) and "X" (to reject) keys.
The feature is useful when you take many pictures of the same subject and need to go back and forward to select the best shot. You don't want to delete directly, you wanna mark many pictures as favorite and compare them later, same for the ones to reject. You mark many, you delete them all in the end without confirming to delete each one of them, but you answer only one time the "Are you sure?" question. Saves a lot of time.
Unluckily the apps I tested are all "old school"/"standard" (no fast way to mark to delete later), one must tap a top menu, then from a dropdown select "delete" and confirm each picture, or go to the gallery view and multi select the very small thumbnails from there, which is not practical at all if you need to see the full screen picture...
One app that was a bit better than the usual ones is the Sony Xperia "Album" app. It allows to select pictures from the thumbnails view and view them full screen without losing the selections when going back and forth.
But no app so far has a "flag" feature for positive(favorite)/negative(reject) like Lightroom. I've seen only "add as favorite".
Especially useful would be the ability to view (filter), in the end of the process, the flagged pictures as favorite, or the ones to reject (to delete them all at once).
I know there is Adobe Lightroom mobile, unluckily this is only for iOS.
If you know something like this please let me know.
Thank you and cheers.

Hi,
i like your app - but unfortunately it always tell me it can´t lock pics when they are stored on external sd Card.
I first Need to copy the files from external sd Card to phone storage - then it works.
Can you include locking files on external disks? Is it possible to add the ability to define where the locked files will be stored?
I would like to save them on my external sd Card as i can use the whole Memory depending on the Card and not being limited to the Memory in the phone.
