THANKS

I saw your post on PPCGEEKS, and tried to extract them for you.
R2VS_ARM_WM6_PRO_Driver.dll
&
wavedev.dll
are hidden files under the windows directory, and when you can finally see them, you cannot copy them (permission denied). I am using a 3rd party tool to view the files, not activesync or on the device itself. I even tried killing as many tasks as I could to get them. Probably what happened with the other guy that was trying to get them for you, but kept making excuses and saying he could only make shortcuts.
The only file I can copy is the control panel one. I don't think that would be useful to you. I was searching for an updated rom for my Saga, but still haven't found one (mainly to unlock GPS).

Please, use this tool and extract these files:
R2VS_ARM_WM6_PRO_Driver.dll
R2VS_Effect_Control_Panel.exe
Browse file in "Enter Path..." and enter any name in "Save to:", file will be extracted in device root directory.
If these files not exist, extract similar files with "R2VS" in names.

So now that VZW has released a new "rom" for the phone, does anyone have any idea's on how to enable the actual GPS chip? I have found that only aGPS is being used and doesn't lock me to my exact location to where I am....Google Maps always tells me my location is within 1100meters, or approximately a mile away...not too accurate. If somehow someone could build a rom like many have done on the omnia i910, I would pay some money....Anyone have any idea's on how to start with WM6.5 on the phone or even a way to get rid of all this bloatware on the device? Thanks!

If you plan to download and install this update be aware that IT WILL LOCK your phone, even if you had unlocked it with WM6.1. THis has been confirmed with SamSung as well as Verizon.

Google maps puts me about a kilometer southwest of Tanzania National Stadium.
Needless to say I'm not in that hemisphere, much less continent.

Open Google Maps...Tap <Menu>...Select <Use GPS>. A small status bar should appear in the upper right of the screen stating, "Seeking GPS satellites (0)"...(0) being the number of satellites aquired.
You may need to go outside for the GPS to be able to aquire satellites. Aquiring sats can take several minutes. Once it aquires at least 3 satellites, it should move your location to an accurate position. My is dead on! try viewing "satellite view" under the menu. Zoom in. Again, mine is absolutely dead on.

I've got a Saga here with the newer CE07 ROM (and yes, the update did re-lock the SIM slot). ROMExtractor.exe is giving the error: "ROMExtractor.exe is not a valid Win32 application." I'm using an updated XP PC. I've tried downloading it two different ways and unzipping it two different ways, but same result. Any ideas?

Are there any other ways of unlocking the SIM after update, besides calling VZ support? I'm using Samsung Saga on PagePlus, hence can't call verizon anymore. Thanks.

Where to download Google Maps for TP?

Hi!
Does anybody know from where I can download Google Maps? No, it did not come with the phone. And yes, I know that normally you get it from www.google.com/gmm - except that all I get from there is "Sorry, Google Maps does not work on your HTC TouchDual."
Do you guys get the same message?

To be honest I have never come across anyone who didn't have it installed as stock. Where did you get your TP from?
As for downloading it, you will need to search the forum and see if any one has extracted it from their TP as I assume it is a bespoke build for the software

no, it's a standard build. And there were problems with it on the diamond with it not shuttiong down the GPS properly and rinsing the battery in around 2.5 to 3 hours.
go to www.google.com/gmm using INTERNET EXPLORER and download the latest version!

GPS problem or Google maps problem
Hi!
With IE, I got presumably the latest version, which seems to be 2.2.0.19.
However, I can not lock into satellites at all.
Before that I had found one web-site that hosted an earler version that was very quick to find satellites - it just was missing lot of features like the favorites and was nagging all the time about updates.
So the question is, is this a problem with GM? Or the phone otherwise? Here are my settings:
Windows GPS settings:
GPS program port: COM4
GPS hardware port: (None), Baud rate: 4800
Manage GPS automatically: checked
In Google Maps, I've selected the option to get position through Windows (as opposed to manual setup).
Does anybody know any free program that I can use to check out the GPS functionality preferably in a way that would give some deeper access to functionality - like the traditional satellite view? Thanks in advance!
Forgot some details:
I've run the QuickGPS - hope that is not what is confusing the GPS now as I had just had a update before this latest version of GM?
Google Maps just sits there with "searching for GPS-satellites (0)..." and never advances the count from 0...
DO a search and you will find a thread "testing gps" where you will find a tool for "testing gps"!

Read the other threads on gps performance!!!!!
YOur first lock on satilites can take upto 20mins, even though you have updated quickgps. You need to be stationary and preferably outside.

Thanks I'll try that tool.
However, I did have older GM installed previously and it found a lock in just a few minutes. Actually GM doesn't even wait 20 min before it shows you a screen that says that it can not get a fix.

Moving TomTom to Raphael

Evening guys.
Ok, think I have sealed my own fate to some extent here, but hoping there might be a solution.
I had a Kaiser which I installed TomTom 7 on using the hack whereby you buy the maps for the GO 720 and trick the Home app into thinking that it is a 720 (before the diamond maps were available - what can I say, I'm impatient! ;-) )
Anyway, predictably, I've now got my TP and have installed the tomtom 7 cab onto the device. However, it tells me that activation failed. I would go to the ttcodes.com website, but for some reason I can't find the damned product code for the maps on my tt account page (it says "product code , " instead of a number??!).
All I want to do is "unactivate" the maps somehow and then do an OTA refresh with my new product/device code. Is this possible?
To be honest, I'm a bit fed up with TomTom these days. I've spent literally hundreds of pounds on them over the past few years and upgrading on PDA is always either incredibly difficult or lags behind the TomTom hardware. If I can't get this sorted, I might just cut my losses and give ALK a new customer...
Cheers guys
squiggs
what version of Tomtom did you install?? 7.450 or 7.451
To change is easy however you can only change your device once in 6 month period. in tt find your product code - press the satellitestrength button followed by pressing on version number. In this list you will find your product code. Goto tomtom web site, log into your account and goto change my device at the bottom of the screen you can type in your new device product code. once done, you then need to download your map to tom tom home as the activation code will be different within the file. Sync your tp and all should work.
let me know if map share and traffic work. I can not get these to work.
@ Xtreme - installed 7.451
@ Ardsar - THanks, but the problem is, I can't get that far. It asks me to choose a map, so I choose my UK & Ireland map and it throws up the activation error.
Thoughts?
cheers

copy the ttnavigator.BIF from the root of your memorycard to your pc and open it with Notepad.
now you can read your devicecode
have you contacted TomTom already with this problem?
also delete your map - it should then let you download a free city map if you havnt done so yet.
Aha!
I've deleted the map and downloaded the freebie. Will work on work on it from both angles.
Haven't contacted TomTom yet (was hoping to avoid the pain!) but will do if I can't get anywhere.
Will let you know how I get on.
Thanks

Arrgh! It now shows the map for download on TomTom home but says "This item does not work on your device. Therefore it cannot be installed".
It obviously realises that it's not a 720 but that's what the map's for.
Have you vchanged your code on tomtom website? The map on your pc is prob still for your old device. Goto my maps on tomtom web site and re download. (move your old map to an area outside of tomtom home just incase it goes wrong. usually found under my docs/tomtom/downloads (or similar)
Hi again guys,
Ok - checked the tomtom website and compared to the product code that's on my account website, but they are already the same? I can only assume that TomTom home synchronises the two?
TomTom home still says "This item does not work on your device. Therefore it cannot be installed".
Any thoughts? I'm thinking that even if I speak to TomTom, they'll just say I shouldn't have bought the 720 map for the Kaiser and just to buy new maps? Seems to be the way they normally work. :-(
EDIT: I should note that there is no trace of my UK map on the device. Just the fresh TT install and my free download map of my area that I got last night.

Just a thought - did you delete your maps from tomtom home and your pc? If not i suggest you try backing them up to CD or something, remove them and try again. I'm not sure at what point the activation code is generated - ie when you install or download. Failing this, i guess x20 maps are not compatible.
Unfortunately, if you contact tomtom, they will just tell you to go away as version 7 is not released and supported in the UK. Sorry mate, i dont know what else to suggest. I used 710 maps on my kaiser which worked fine, i guess the x20 version maps are just to different.
Delete mapname.meta.dct and reactivate or generate a new .meta.dct by using a tt8_keygen.

Guess you have a choice to either buy the correct maps or move to ALK. I have Navigator live 7 (touch diamond edition) and i was not that impressed by it. Scrolling around the map is very very slow compared to tomtom, and the traffic module is not user friendly at all and requires intervention whilst driving!. Also they use navteq for their mapping data however the latest map is about 9 - 12 months out of date, although some of the road changes that have happened in my area are more up to date. From what i understand, tomtom will be releasing version 7 at some time so you may want to hang it there. Somehow, traffic started working last night, so i am happy now!

Newbie Needs Help

Hi Guys!
I am new to this forum but already amazed by the sheer amount of content on here!
As per the title of the thread, I am a newbie to XDA's and I was wondering if any of you learned gents would be kind enough to point me in the right direction with a few questions I have about my recently acquired O2 XDA Serra. I have done searches and read the WIKI but there are a few points I could not find an answer to so was counting on your help.
The specs of the machine listed in settings -> system -> device information are:
ROM Version: 1.90.206.4 WWE
ROM Date: 09/01/08
Radio Version: 1.02.25.19
Protocol Version: 52.33.25.17H
Model No: Xda_Serra
I have noticed that unlike my girlfriends XDA Ignito (Diamond) my phone did not come with any map software preloaded in spite of the spec sheet saying a GPS chip is built in to the phone. Also unlike with the Diamond there is no separate YouTube application.
So I would be very greatful if any of you fellows can direct me to where I can get some:
1) Good free map software that will work with the XDA Serra and some advice on how to install it (as I read a lot of GPS problems so want to avoid any issues)
2) Tell me how to get the YouTube application on my XDA Serra and again some advice on how to install it
Also I have read MrSkips very useful guide on how to flash a ROM to the raphael and I was wondering what the overall concensus is on which ROM version is the best? Are all released ROMs on here suitable for my XDA Serra?
Also, I have not unlocked my phone and I understand that there is no need to if I want to flash a new ROM on it unless I want to change the radio version or use other SIMs.
Is there any compelling reason why I would want to change the radio version from the one installed presently on the device? Will it serve to boost GSM/3G/GPS Signal?
If so what radio version is considered to be the best and most stable?
I just got the phone today so a bit hesitant to load ROMs on it straight away in case I brick it but I guess you live and learn so all advice to help me get the most out of the device is much appreciated.
Many thanks - you guys ROCK!!!

First let me remind you that the search feature is there and is quite useful. Second to start answering your questions.
As for GPS I use Google Maps. Which can be found here http://www.google.com/mobile/default/maps.html
As far as configuring the software to connect I update the satellites with "QuickGPS" which should be included on your phone. Then I open Google Maps and tell it to use the GPS, I usually have to be outside for it to connect.
For more GPS Stuff check this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427888
As for the Youtube app it may be included on your phone. Check this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448824
And finally as far as the radio is concerned there are a few out there but since the device is so new it will take some time before we know the benefits/downfalls of the different versions. Keep in mind that they may have different results in different areas of the world.
And as for flashing new roms if you have read the sticky located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448008 then you should have all of the info needed to be successful. As for which rom it boils down to personal preference just read the threads and make an educated decision from there.
And remember the search feature is your friend.
Im a Fuze/Wm newb too!
When I search my contacts, it has every name doubled. I believe its also showing my SIM contacts. Is there a way to hide it or should I just delete the SIM contacts?
Thanks! (sorry for jumping in your thread OP!)

You can delete the sim contacts by going to the sim manager, selecting all, then delete (make sure not to select delete CONTACTS).
You could also disable viewing the sim contacts by searching for advanced config and look through the 'phone' options. They will then only show up in the sim manager and not the contacts menu.
Lost_Reaver,
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately some of your suggestions do not seem to apply to me.
In particular the GPS and YouTube app.
Please note that the ROM I have on my Raphael is specific to O2 UK and for some reason O2 UK has chosen not to include any of the following applications:
YouTube App
QuickGPS
Google Maps
As far as YouTube app is concerned, I used the search feature prior to posting and checked for the application in the following location: windows->youtube.exe. I did not find anything in the windows folder related to YouTube and as such was wondering if someone could tell me where I can get the YouTube app .cab file to install on my XDA Serra.
The same goes for QuickGPS / GoogleMaps. My XDA Serra does not have either of these applications pre-installed. They are not visible anywhere in the file structure of the device. I have since installed GoogleMaps by getting the .cab and am now having the problem that no matter how long I wait the XDA Serra does not achieve satelite lock.
You say that you are able to get lock using QuickGPS as a reciever prep app? If so where can I get QuickGPS from? Will it work on the XDA Serra? I ask because reviews of the device state that an equivalent to QuickGPS is embedded in the O2 ROM by the operator and for this reason QuickGPS was removed. If so, will installing QuickGPS cause more issues?
Anyone with a UK O2 XDA Serra care to comment?
Many thanks!

I have attached QuickGPS, Google Maps, and the Youtube app ripped straight from my phone.
QuickGPS and Google Maps are CABs and the Youtube app needs to go in the "Windows" directory.

Lost_Reaver,
Your YouTube app .zip file did not work but I eventually managed to find both a streaming video .cab file and a youtube app .cab file for VGA resolution and it works great.
QuickGPS for some reason also did not work no matter what location I downloaded the file from your upload or others. However I installed GPS Tweaks and GPS Test and was able to get a signal on googlemaps with a couple up to 5 satelites. All be it a pretty weak one so going to try to do the GPS lag fix and maybe change radio to try to upgrade this issue.
The advance config utitlity works great and I did not know this existed so thanks for that!
Best,

No. It's not a stupid question at all!, the only stupid was the Google's developer who decided that this feature was irrelevant for ordinary people! I suppose that you, as me, want to be able to identify a place on Google maps, and copy the coordinates to your Navigator software or to the contacts , or send them to a friend to meet...etc
The only way is to "flash back" to the early 2008.... Attached you will find and old Google Maps version. which is the last when you were able to mark a point of the screen as beginning or as end of a itinerary, and then you could see the latitude, longitude and copy them to the copy-board.
The only problem is that you can't have both Google maps versions working together on your device ( or, at least I don't know how do it).
Now, what I do is having both cabs available and install the desired one over the other every time that I need it (it takes just a few seconds)
If someone knows how to have both apps working together, it would be great to share it!

[ROM][PRO|FUZE][23138|21914][17SEP10] TAEL ROM v5.23138/21914 • FAST|STABLE|TWEAKED
Since 30 august there has been some new updates of the TAEL rom. But it can never hurt to ask your question there.
worth a shot
try downloading quickgps update from wi-fi as opposed to using your carriers data service. sounds improbable but has had a noticeable impact on my phones ability to obtain a GPS lock.
I had exactly the same problem as OP and HTC GPS Test was the only thing needed.
It is very important to select "Clear memory" and run the test before choosing Cold start mode under the clear sky. Give it some time to find all the satellites and get Mode2 lock.
