How can I find out how to create Live Folders?
I'd like to create a Live Folder that links to the Application tab.
This way I can have a Live Folder in the DxTop dock, and never have to use the Tab.
Live Folder example sources
The folks at betterandroid posted the sources for the example Live Folders that ship with OpenHome.
http://code.google.com/p/betterandroid/
In addition to the sources, they include an annotated overview of everything you need to do to implement Live Folders.
I'm not sure, though, how much of that is from android and how much they implemented themselves. Some of the OpenHome Live Folders in the market work natively in Haykuro's Magic port, some just forceclose.

Just a clarification question...
I found the following files, packaged in a .cab, but don't think I need all of them and don't know where to put the files I do need.
Here's what I have:
4orangeh.dll
HomePage.xml
HomeScreen.dll
HomeScreen_menuF.bmh
HomeScreen_MenuS.bmh
orange.scheme.xml
OrangeHomescreen.home.xml
I'm thinking that the 4orangeh.dll is the only file I need and that it goes in the application data/home directory, and that the other files are associate with a homescreen this particular individual authored. Is that correct or no?
Thanks for the help!
ahhhh
NO.....nononono....thats wrong.
You got the units for ABAXIA (all the files above exept the 4Orangeh.dll)and 4OrangeH.
You may copy the files to /Application Data/Home and register the .dll manually with wm5regsvce.exe.
May not work stable, but you got this: (Link to another Thread by me about the 2 DIFFERENT OrangePlugins called Abaxia and 4OrangeH (4Orangeh includes 10 different Plugins)
ClickMeHard
The Top Image is Abaxia, the second Images are 4Orangeh.Abaxia is poooooor, 4OrangeH really Impressive
Nice arpy!
You wouldn't know where I can find some (English) documentation on how to use this plugin?
erm,no...sorry.Ive created a German Doc with all needed attributes for this Plugin, it was a hard trip and needs a lot of try-and-error-sessions to get nearly all informations about it.
Here is a Howto in German, it includes nearly all Attributes and Parameters needed for 4OrangeH.Not finished yet...there are some more undocumented Features, like FreeMemory,Messages,Ringtone...it is like an OWN HOMESCREEN-PROCESS, so it can Host more than one Plugin in one Line...an REALLY DAMN ****IN **** MISSING FEATURE in my lovely SmartPhone.
the file maybe helpful, if you always create Homescreens...
Thank you. I'll try and see how this comes through a translater.
I have a shortcut that brings up my ebooks directory in the traditional fexplore list view. What I want to know is if there is any command line argument I can use to make it show up in a more finger (and eye) friendly Icon View, like that which occurs if you do start -> Programs.
I found another post asking this question, but no answers. Thanks for your time.
a friendly and hopeful bump
Sure,
take a look into my thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623195
There are links to other pages with lots of nice applications/utilities.
There are new utilities (yet not made by me though).
Within it is the basics of making your own shortcuts.
Within it is the basis of adding your own icon.
or *.icl icon library..
Now and then I'm still updating (editing) it. I'm looking into two *.icl files, where I need to find out if I can share 'm here (that is within the above link).
IMO this is a nice start fortunz

I do appreciate the info (which I've bookmarked for other uses), but I didn't notice any Icon View parameters for fexplore in the post. I'm not really interested in altering what icon the .lnk has, I'm just looking to avoid the default List View fexplore uses.
My googling on the issue has also been a complete failure. I've been assuming that Start -> Programs (sans manila, I don't know if it uses the same setup) on vanilla 6.1 uses fexplore in an Icon View, but I suppose it could be using a different program entirely to browse the start folder.
Another approach
Use Opera instead
Goto the url: file://localhost/ Browse for your preferred directory, bookmark it, make a link (*.lnk) for this bookmark and put this link on your application launcher. You could also copy and paste it into another browser (with better/other view capabilities).
Just a thought,

It's an interesting approach. Not quite up my alley having tested it out now, but I do appreciate the thought.
Since fexplore parameters seem to not be known, perhaps I should be looking for another file manager to use for these particular purposes.
fexplore free alternative
Hello again,
IMO I found it! I have it under the hood for ages, maybe that's why I did not think of it in the first place ; start using the free ware Total Commander file manager. Set it in it's Menu to Show - Large Icons
Done!
Senax
What you need is File Explorer Extensions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421723
You can switch between big icon and detailed view, but not using command line.
And
http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJSmallIcons
Can get command line parameters, but only for program menu (WM 6.1 and below)

Does it always default to showing large icons thereafter (Every time you open the program again after it's been shut down completely), or do you have to change it each time?
If not, I see at least one element in the ini file that might make the setting keep. Thanks. I'll give that a spin.
Android developers,
There is an app for windows mobile that allows users to add any custom city that has a code on www.accuweather.com see link below: -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=546141
I’m assuming that the database used for android is the same SQL Database, any chance a similar app can be developed for Android?
I’m sure it can be done manually using a SQL database editor, but for that the android device would have to be rooted.
better try Weather Widgets
There used yr.no database (huge one), as I tested this app, there were no mistakes in forecasts.

I too would love that someone develop this. My city is not listed in the stock HTC weather widget. However it does exist in the accuweather database. When I was using my Jade (WM) I could add my city using several apps. I've been searching all around in the android forum but so far to no avail. Thanks
Quiet a grave-dig, but searching the forum i didn't find another thread that would answer this question. Did anyone find a solution for HTC weather - how to add city to the database?
Please help, i am very interested for this solution, and just can't believe that Windows users have such functionality and Android doesn't.
An answer and a question:
Answer - The DB is in SQLite format and is stored (on my DINC, at least) in the data\data\htc.provider.weather\files folder as WP_0409WWE.db.
Get a SQLite editor (I got the free SQLiteExpert Personal edition) and edit the locationlist table. You can look at other entries to get the gist of the data entries you need. Just be careful that you get the timezone info and the Accuweather codes (in the "code" colum) correct.
Caveat - You will need a rooted phone and Root Explorer in order to copy the db to your PC and put it back on the phone.
Now for the question - Has anybody else had the clock/weather widget on the home screen get "lost"? The "current" location is usually right on the money. Just noticed a little bit ago that it is now showing Simpson Bay. By the temp and weather, obviously Simpson Bay, St Maarten (don't I wish!)
Everything else, Google, Google Maps, etc, shows my correct location (Charlotte, NC). But the weather widget insists that I am on St Maarten. Wishful thinking I guess...
Same here HTC Desire, a smaller town about 15 miles away, it's really random when it 'lies' but it is quite annoying, also it may be a conspiracy but it seems to mostly do it when I'm trying to show off the awesomeness of the phone to BB and iPhone friends.
Help, I'm a lawyer who uses wordperfect (I know not many of us out there) and can't seem to find a tablet that will let me create, edit, convert back and forth from word to wordperfect, etc. Does anyone know if I can edit wordperfect files on an android tablet? On an I-Pad tablet? Or on a Windows based or Windows Based/ Android tablet like the ASUS EEETransformer? Any suggestions?

Also a lawyer and would love to see this happen. Corel should make an Android app.
Currently I use a txt based program. Which is fine you just copy and paste all the text and format later. But it would be nice to be able to finish the job on the Android app.
woops I shouldve searched google first....
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.corel.wordperfectviewer&hl=en
Its just a viewer though and 6.99 for just a viewer. weak.

WordPerfect viewer/editor on Android? For long-time WordPerfect users, it has been virtually impossible to read or write WPD files on an Android device. The only official option, thus far, has been the official and commercial Corel WPD viewer, but the user reviews have been mixed, to say the least.
This problem has prompted me to research and experiment, based on the fact that a free Windows MS Office-compatible suite like Libre Office [or Open Office, or Apache Office] has, for some time, had the ability to open WordPerfect files seamlessly [and save them, sometimes]. I formatted and saved a few basic WPD files, simply renamed the file extension to .ODT, and opened them in Libre Office – virtually perfectly [only experiencing importing issues with some complex tables]. Apart from that, formatting features like different fonts, graphics boxes, numbered outlining? No problem.
Then I proceeded to Android: I copied these test WPD files [simply renamed as ODT files, not exported as Open Office files, remember] to my device/cloud storage services like Dropbox and Google Drive. I installed a number of Open Office/ODT compatible office apps, and tried to open the "new" ODT files.
The best result so far [only been testing for the last 2 days] has come from OOReader [free via the Google Play store]. Opening a disguised WPD file as an ODT file takes a few seconds to convert, and – success! Almost every file I've tossed at OOReader has imported successfully, with WP formatting and graphics intact.
Interestingly, the official Libre Office viewer app [also the beta one] chokes on these FrankenFiles, as well as most other allegedly ODT-compatible office viewers and editors.
And so my 48-hour conclusion and advice are this: If you're a die-hard WPD user and would like to access your files on an Android device, follow these kludgy and hack-ey steps: (1) upload your WPD file AS IS to your device or the cloud; (2) install OOReader on your device; (3) when you need to do so, simply rename the WPD file to an ODT extension, and import into OOReader.
Savvy users might even write a batch script or CMD file beforehand which automatically renames or mirrors important WPD files as ODT files in one's PC Dropbox folder, which will save precious seconds when accessing that beautiful WPD data...
When (if) I find an app which can then also correctly and perfectly edit and save these hacked WPD-as-ODT files, a follow-up report will, well, follow.

Hello. I am looking for android software that will allow me to attribute multiple tags to individual folders and files. By doing this I can organize them into as many virtual folders as I like according to their tags. I currently use Evernote which does exactly this but all files have to be converted into Evernote format and synced using their cloud server. If I could apply my own tags using the native android file structure I could simplify my organization and not have to use Evernote.
I found software that I think does this for windows (Tabbles.net) but it is not developed for android.
I seached for alternatives for Tabbles for android on alternativeto.net but had no luck.
Anyone know of software like this for android? Or could suggest another place to search for it?
Thanks.
I think this is what you are looking for, i'm not sure because i haven't understood you so much (bad english )
Not really understood what you're talking about
Okay, I'll try to explain it better. Android (and most other platforms have a tree-like file structure. Files are stored in folders and subfolders. To find a specific file or folder, you find a parent folder and work your way down to the folder/file you want. The "Folder Tag" application recommended above (thanks xacobe97) allows you to bookmark a folder so that you can find it easily later. I want to add multiple tags to a file so that I can organize it under multiple headings.
For example, the word file "LG G2X Screen Protector" could have the tag "Phone reference" so that I have the information on hand, and the tag "Errands" so that when I look under that tag I see that I need to go out and buy one. This is exactly what Evernote and many other productivity software titles do, but you have to convert all the files you want organized to their file format. I would like some kind of file manager that can tag any type of file, and make these programs unnecessary. It would also allow me to use my preferred office app to edit files, not whatever editor comes with Evernote or whatever else.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
