Sapphire Radio Noises - G1 Android Development

Anyone else having an issue when on the Sapphire Radio where the person receiving a phone call hear's loud scratching/echoing/"tin" sounds?

Hmm no... Although with 5.0.1H I could hear my own voice echoing back all the time... Moved to 5.0.1G as you can see in my sig.

I have the same issue.

Since I flashed to 5.0.1H (now on 5.0.2H) I got a lot of complaints like that. Whoever is on the other end also gets really aggravated at noises such as closing a door or something, which never annoyed anyone before. It's really weird, I keep thinking of leaving myself a voicemail to hear it but I haven't done it yet.

I seem to have the issue on all builds (RC33, 5.0.1G and 5.0.2H) but only with the sapphire radio driver. If I use the RC33 radio, no noises, but the battery life sucks... hmm....

yes, hepened to me with any 5.01g, 5.02h with old radio, upgraded to latest saphire radio and all ok now.

terrible echo during calls

Hi,
I got the XDA Diamond Pro (Touch Pro O2 germany) yesterday.
During a call, the phone generates a terrible, slightly timeshifted echo of the own voice. The voice of the other person is normal and the other person doesnt hear an echo. I have tried it several times with different persons and networks (mobile + landline)...always the same phenomenon...sometimes more or less.
Is this normal with the Touch Pro? Do you also have this echo while making a call?
regards
10mabo
(sorry, my english is probably not the best)
Nobody with the same problem? Are your Touch Pros without echos?
No prob for me. Never heard something similar. What about your signal strength? Do you have good reception?
No problem here aswell.
tried a hard-reset already? I noticed that my TP worked better after I did a hard-reset (more stable and quicker), dunno why though.
Thank you for the replys!
So it seems that my device is not working properly :-(
It´s already on the way back to the provider.
regards
Holy crap! I just got another exchanged fuze and it's having the same issue. I'll try flashing to a new rom and see if that works.
When I first got the phone I noticed that my voice would echo but it stopped happening on its own. I think it was occurring because of bad reception. At that time my phone was having major problems with the data connection also and I figured it had something to do with ATT's towers.
I have experienced this echo, too, but considered it to come from reception problems as it does not happen on a regular basis. I.e. some calls are experiencing this echo, some do not.

I assume you mean flashing another radio rom, right? I have this issue on my Fuze as well. I flashed to NATF's rom, but am still running the stock radio rom that came with my phone: 1.02.25.32.
Did a different radio rom help you??

I changed my radio to 1.08.25.20, but I still have the echo. Do you think this is a hardware or software issue? Thanks!

I had the same problem I think with mine. It went away after a while when I was using NATF v2.2 but then when I flashed to v2.3 it came back. This was because the incall volume went down. So increase the volume when you're in a call and that should fix it.
I'm not sure if this is the same problem, but the same thing has happened to me with both the Fuze and the Tilt. What I think the issue was though was that there was a slight lag between the time I said something and the time the sound came out of the earpiece on the other phone. The other phone's mic would pickup the sound of my voice and send it back to me. Very annoying. The problem was always solved when the person I was talking to switched to headset.
Same issue
I am experiencing the same issue, but it does seem to come and go depending on the in-call volume settings.
Obviously, no problems on speakerphone, which I use frequently.

Stock Radio, Stock Rom, no bloat
I just switched away from NATF v2.3 to aruppenthal's ver2 final ROM and the echo has cleared up! Thought I'd share in case others want to try...

Radio ROM's Tested for T-Mobile/Cingular US. Experience posted, take a look

Decided to make new thread about this instead of waiting for answers in other threads. This experience is based on TMobile Boston area but should apply to TMobile as well as Cingular/ATT in all the corners of US
I have TMobile USA MDA/Wizard G4. Was running on official TMobile WM5 ROM with 2.25.11 radio with no problems for over a year.
Recently flashed to the latest TNT Professional ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=414518
Great ROM but got a problem that from what i see on forum some of users have encountered: missed calls
Problem: Very easy to reproduce, leave your phone on but with no activity at all(do not touch screen/any buttons/receive calls) for a periond of 30-40 mins. After that try calling it from another phone, although green button blinks(indicating that the phone is on) it will not ring/vibrate/light up. On the other end it will ring as normal and go to voicemail. If you wake you phone up(pressing top button) it will start receiving calls but will not notify you of missed ones while it was "sleeping".
Experience so far: (these finding were based on latest TNT Professional ROM and might not apply to other ROM's)
Radio Rom:
2.19.11 - No missed calls, below average signal and audio quality
2.25.11(official TMobile) - missed calls, average signal/audio quality
2.37.11 -missed calls, average audio quality, above average signal
2.40.11 - missed calls, average sound quality, great signal
2.47.11 - missed calls, above average signal/audio quality
2.61.11 - missed calls, average sound quality, good signal
2.69.11 - missed calls, great signal/audio quality
2.71.11 - missed calls, best signal/audio quality out of all tested
The fix from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317331 (post #6 - thanks to mmeyer) i did not find it to help in missed calls situations at all.
Question#1: Is there a hybernation mode that is not described in any settings but activates after certain period of time that might be causing the "disconnect" in WM6?
Question#2: There are Tmobile Wing radios available(version 03.07.90, 02.97.90 etc) and since Wing is quite similar to MDA would it be possible to flash those to MDA?
LOOKING FOR RADIO DOWNLOADS, IF ANYONE HAS ANY BESIDES THE ONES MENTIONED ABOVE PLEASE PROVIDE THE LINK!!! IT WILL BE PROMPTLY REVIEWED AND FINDINGS POSTED
Any help/input will be appreciated!!!
try all 2.40.11, 2.47.11, 2.61.11 to find the best 4 ur rom!
ty for your help, but that wasnt really a question i am looking for an answer to, did anyone try to use the WING radios on MDA? or will it just brick my phone?
2.37 has not failed me yet. What rom are you using?
I never got missed calls after leaving my phone on my desk at work for hours at a time. What roms have you tried this with?
you can try to fix this by having your email download more often maybe.. I think that it is either your device or rom or carrier network.
In fact I just tried it now after leaving my phone sitting for about 4hrs. it responded to the call just fine.
In fact, 2.19 gave me the worst problems. I missed calls, texts would not pick up signal after I would get out of the subway and so on. I think it is made for a canadian network (Rogers I think) as itsright(TNT) stated.
Used 2.37 for about a year now on both the east coast and west (canyons in San diego have a lot of deadspots that 2.25 would not catch signal often.
I recomend you get rid of both the rom and the radio.
Ty SVI, 2.37 is the one i havent tried it yet, will do today, to answer your questions:

TNT PRofessional latest from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=414518
i have tried 2.25, 2.69 and 2.71 so far, all were missing calls, 2.19 is the one that hasnt missed calls in 2 days, but the signal quality and audio are not the best by far. Currently trying 2.47.11. As for device or network, they both worked 100% when was on official wm5. Will try 2.37 and report here
Does anyone have 2.37.11 Radio for download? looked through the ones i have and the closest are 2.40 and 2.25, appreciated!

2.40.11 tested and failed, testing 2.37.11... first post upadted
I experienced the same problem with the 2.71 radio rom. I saw the screen and buttons light up like I was about to recieve a call/text, but then it just displayed one missed call. I reflashed to 2.19 and the problem disappeared.
are you sure the problem is with the radio and not the rom? if you havent tried, how will you know?
2.37.11 missed calls after phone was asleep for 2 hours(passed 2-se on 30min sleep tests) anyone have any other Radios(61, 65, 83) i can test?

I am sure ROM contributes to the problem as well, just want to find the best working radio for TNT's ROM, and then do the same for other ROM's i might like to use(like yours). But need to gather quite a few more Radios before i can proceed, perhaps you can help?

Your issue is ROM Related!
There has been extensive testing about this very issue. The fix by mrfrzzz and the warnings of missed calls is all over this forum and warned about in earlier wm 6.0 builds for the Wizard. Seemed like every Rom that came out had the missed call issue, later Devlopment, and the new Radio 2.71.11 came out, This issue dissapeared. I bet you do not get any missed calls with your carriers OEM rom on your phone! If you do, then I would be sending it back.
I sent my Wizard back twice because of Hardware issues.
The Fix by mrfrzzz was intended for wm.6.0 roms so I doubt that it would work with wm 6.1 roms, maybe I am wrong about that but, I still have my Wizard and let my Daughter use it. She never has missed calls and I have radio 2.71.11 radio on it, I have flashed most of the wm 6.1 roms that have came out and again, I have no missed calls or SMS.
I have Tried every Radio and for me, The very best Radio in my opinion is 2.71.11 and 2.47.11. I have never tried 2.37.11 but if SVI says it is good, it probably is.

2.71, 2.47 and 2.37 all miss calls with and without the fix as stated in first post. The only one that does not miss calls is still 2.19 radio which leads me to believe that there might be a later radio ROM that would not miss calls as well.
Currently testing 2.61.11 radio and looking for more Radio roms that i have not tested yet(not in the list in the first post)
2.61.11 bites the dust, so still only 2.19.11 is the only one that works, flashing back to it to test more(if that one fails then its 100% ROM fault)

calling problem

since you know what a radio is and you have flashed roms , im guessing you've tried hard reseting ? in that case it may be a hardware problem or a wiring problem .
how do u figure?
when i first flashed the rom, i did everything i was suppse to.

I had a similar problem after I flashed 4.4, but it went away for me on future versions. To make the volume louder during calls (and overall too), I installed the Audio_Lighter_Boost.cab from aruppenthal's rom thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467592#6
Just install the cab and soft reset. If it is still not loud enough for you, follow the directions for the AudioPara3.

[Q] NS i9020 weird call issue

Hello,
I've been a user of the xda ROMs for quite some time and i appreaciate all the work that's been put into the community.
Sadly, i have stumbled onto an issue i cannot solve myself, so i am seeking your help.
Description: When receiving a call and answering it (phone vibrates and rings), i cannot hear the other person, but they can hear me. (Speaker on/off doesn't do a thing, volume rocker up/down either). If the person calls back within a few minutes, i can almost always hear them and have a normal conversation. This does not happen in 100% of the cases, but in more than 50%. I have switched ROMs, kernels and radios (ATM i have CM7.1 RC, mar1x bfs v4,5, and XXKB3)
Is there any hope?
same issue on i9020t
I been having the same issue, but not quite as frequent, on my I9020T. I've experienced it with Cyanogenmod 7.1RC1 and NSCOLLAB (also based on CM71). I think I had it with CM7.0.2 and CM7.0.3, but can't remember for sure. The problem does not occur when I revert back to stock 2.3.4 rooted.
A somewhat related post in this forum, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188264, got me thinking. The OP had a similar problem on an I9023 when bluetooth was enabled. I've noticed on NSCOLLAB that DSPManager is running a "Headset" service. I do not have DSPManager installed on my stock install.
Can someone more knowledgeable tell if its possible this service could be related to the problem with callers not being able to hear me. FYI, my bluetooth is normally off and I don't use a headset. I'm back to running NSCOLLAB 1.3.8, but I've disabled the Headset service. If the problem doesn't occur for a couple days, I think I may have something.
dinuvali, is the Headset service running on your build?
Removed DSPManager earlier. Just answered a call where they hear me but I can't hear them. They called me back, all normal.
Oh well, rolling back to stock for now.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Thank you for the reply,
Yes my CM 7.1 is running the DSPManager service.
Also, my neighbour who has the exact device as me, but stock unrooted, has never experienced this problem.
Along with this problem of not hearing the other person on the first call, i also get the dropped call once in a while (not only after 3 mins of talking, but also while the phone is ringing and they still haven't picked up yet)
From all the posts i've read concerning this issue, i think it's mainly a hardware issue, but maybe it can be bypassed with some sort of tweak.
Major breakthrough imo
Pressing Hold (left upper corner) and then unholding will render me able to hear the other person!

Great find! Come to think of it, I never had it happen when I answered someone and immediately hit speakerphone, something I do alot when in my car mount.
I think I'll reload NSCollab, new version just came out today. When it happens again (unless they fixed it) I'll try this out. Thanks!

phone call problem =[

So my thunderbolt has been overall great but i have this problem where if someone calls me they cant hear me but i can hear them and i can hear myself in my own speaker. is it a setting problem? i also flashed the latest radio for GB on the Infected Synergy Rom.

I've literally had that same issue on almost every device I've used on Verizon and Alltel at some point. Some areas it's happened a lot in, other almost never. I'm hesitant to say it's the device because of my experience. I think it's something quirky with the network. For me, if I just call them back it works fine. It used to happen almost every time I called my Mom. Second call was a charm though. Then it mostly stopped... about the time she got off that damn Motorola and onto a BlackBerry... but it still happens occasionally.
yeah =[ ive never had this problem though and its constantly doing it because i was originally on cm7 but it started to i flashed another rom and it worked for a couple of calls at first but now no calls go through and im afraid to call verizon since im rooted but idk what to do =[ thanked you btw

eh.... I've called them with issues on both my rooted HTCs. It's never been a problem. I've talked to guys there about their rooted Androids. If they tell you to do this or that, either play super-stupid or BS your way through it and get them to put a work order out to check out things on their end. If that doesn't solve it, then it's time to go back to stock and exchange some hardware or something.
i was just experimenting and it turns out after like 25 secs they could hear me but im still lost on why
