HTC Magic Ports Battery Life - G1 Android Development

Hey everyone, I am currently running rc33 jfreak 1.42 on my phone. I was running 5.0.1G and. When I was running that rom i t seemed like my battery life was longer. Now tfhat I'm back on jfreak my battery is draining faster. Has any one else seen improved battery life with the magic rom?

I recently switched from JF 1.42 RC33 to 5.0G and saw no noticeable battery life difference. I did however notice a very noticeable increase in browser speed, which was awesome.

Well today I'm on jfreak and my battery is constantly draining, the only reason I flashed back was to test the battery life

I would say that since I started using Haykuro's Magic builds, my battery life has definitely increased. However, I suspect that this is because the device now uses less charge when it is not actively being used (i.e. standby time is longer) - I'm not using it as my primary phone at the moment as I'm on vacation in the US and I've a prepaid Tracfone that serves for the most part.
A heavy user probably wouldn't notice much difference.
Regards,
Dave

My battery life was pretty bad with 5.01H I'm talking like 10% per 15 minutes of use.

My standby time was great on 5.02.h but I noticed it took longer to charge.

I think the H build drains faster than the G

It's the standby times which are greatly increased. For instance, I took my G1 off charge at 6:45am this morning, it just sat in my pocket until lunch break at 2pm and I was at 99% charge. Surfed for 30mins at lunch and it's at 92%. It then sat in my pocket until I checked it again at 5:30PM, where it was 90%. It's now almost 7PM and the battery is sitting at 88%.
5.0.1G. Standard battery, Wifi/GPS/BT off. 3g on. 20% screen. It still drains quite quickly when used, I think it's better but hard to say how much better.
When I had RC9 on there, even in standby it would drain quite quickly.

When i first flashed just 5.0 i charged it to 100% took it off the charger and fell asleep for 2 hours, when i woke up the battery percent was at 92% and i was using the sapphire radio

I agree.
I think google did a lot of battery optimization in standby mode with 1.5.
If I don't turn on my g1 all day, the battery life barely goes down at all.
Of course if you do use the g1, it still drains battery like before because there's not much you can do when you are using 3g, have the lcd turned on, and the cpu chugging along. They all use a lot of power.

Do you have any background processes like twitter, IM, etc? Those could be using up the battery even if you aren't actually doing anything with the phone.

The increase in my case is VERY noticable. At minimum a boost of 50% battery life.

yeah the battery life has increased
but ive only noticed it while using just one or two apps every couple of hours
my usual day includes texting alot
2 or 3 phone calls less than 4 min
fb app, twitter app, nba app, a game or two, and other stuff
my brightness is around 25 percent
and my 3g wifi gps auto sync is on all the time
it lasts longer than it used to
but the second i start surfing the web and reading forums or using greed to read a bunch of rss feeds the battery life drains amazingly fast
im on 5.0.1h
gonna give the g build a try and then check out 5.0.2h later this week

i was using gtalk on 5.0.1 and it didnt run my battery down. on 1.42 my battery dies very fast

definite battery increase i actually didnt have to charge my battery allllll day w? moderate use..

I believe the increase in battery life in standby is more due to everyone having to wipe their data and reinstall applications.
Previously you probably had a ton of applications, that start as services, and run ALL day in the background. Applications such as chomp, twitter, hello aim, even stuff like officedroid remain open in the background because they are registered as services. Eliminating a number of these programs due to wipe is probably the reason why the battery life has improved so much.

but i was still using programs i used before, i used all of them except task manager, droid sans, and chomp sms

i'm seeing alot better response from 5.0.1h build. The static rc33 was draining the battery. Actually that's how i got it for so cheap cause the person i bought it from hated that the battery died so quick. I use my phone constantly for work and when i got home tonight i was at half a battery.

I'm back to 1.42 also i flashed 5.0g first and didn't really pay attention to the battery use but did notice a very big increase in the speed (loads very fast) then flashed 5.o.1h and it was crazy how fast the battery was on e............ Im thinking bout flashing back to 5.0g just 4 the super quick speed !

Following on from this.... It's 24hrs since I last charged it and the battery is currently at 73%. Very light usage but shows the battery can last if needed.

my little rant about the battery life.

the battery life on the raphael is a bit.. odd. Before I had this phone, i had the Sidekick LX, which was able to last about 12-14 hours and it didnt really matter how much I used it. The data on the sidekick is on all the time, but it is Edge.
However, using the ATT Fuze (raphael variant), I am a bit happy, and yet, a bit upset at the battery life. First, if i do not have data on, the battery lasts extremely long. Its been more than 12 hours, and i am at 85%. I had minimum web browsing, made a few phone calls, and talked for about an hour. Oh and i have email updates every 2 hours. Thats pretty remarkable for a smart phone.
BUT, if i am to browse the internet, listen to internet radio, or have an instant messaging program open, the battery drains at least 10% every hour! Thats horrendous! What is the point of a 3g smart phone if i cannot really use it because the battery will die if i do?
Hmm, I have hammered my phone the past few days with texts email, phone calls, messaging and some light video usage. It lasted about 10 - 14 hours and I charged it once a night. I have been pretty pleased with it.
I leave data on all the time and it will download my RSS feeds every 2 hours pictures and all, weather will update etc so its always using something. With normal usage and the always on stuff I have had it last about 2.5 - 3 days making very short and few calls.
With the screen being on, data going and all of the other stuff it saps the battery fairly well. I wish battery tech would advance a little to make it last longer but its better than my last phone by a good amount.
Have you made any of the power saving tweaks from that thread to your phone? You should be able to squeeze some more juice out of it.
There are several Raphael power tweaks on this forum, I would find them for you but am about to go to bed and am really tired. One I remember is you can put a disconnect time on the data using diamond tweak so it disconnects from data quickly when your not using it and saves battery. Sorry for not eing fo more help.
Did you condition your battery when you got the phone? That can help with you battery life sometimes.

I have the phone for about 6 weeks and really didn't have too many problems with battery life until I bought a stereo BT headset and started using it in the last week or so. I had the battery literally drain to nothingness twice this week already in a matter of hours. And no, it wasn't off hook or on Wifi or left playing something. One time it was actually plugged in to a USB charger!
Do you use an A2DP headset or leave your BT active?
Dont get me wrong guys. I am aware the battery does drain when i do use it. Yes, i did do the most tweaking i could possibly have done to lengthen my battery life, but lets face it, streaming youtube videos through the youtube app will drain the battery 10% an hour.
The one thing that gets to me is why instant messaging programs drain the battery as fast as youtube streaming.
I did not make this thread to ask for help though, just contributing my 2 cents to my experience with the Raphael.
10% an hour??? Howd you fit a powerplant in your phone?? My battery drops to 50% in 20-30mins if I watch youtube movies. Are you watching in HQ?
well maybe more than 10% but definitely not 50% in 20 minutes lol.
My battery seems decent, I conditioned it by draining it to 1% and charging it to 100%, draining to 1% charging to 100% etc for the first few cycles. Basically I didn't charge it until it was drained. It doesn't hurt to condition, but I think it's just superstition by now, many people say modern Li-On batteries aren't supposed to have memory.
There are several threads about battery life around here already, no need to start a new one.

Battery life?

I just got the Captivate on Sunday so maybe it needs some time to settle in or whatnot, but I thought I'd make a post about its battery life. How's everyones experience with the battery so far? I love this phone to death, but it seems like the battery life sucks so far. It also seems to take a really really long time to charge up.
I have the display at 11% and haven't done anything with the phone at all today and I'm already at 80%.
3h 12m since unplugged. Says what's using my battery is:
Display: 35%
Cell Standby: 22%
Phone Idle: 15%
Bezier - Live Wallpaper: 7%
Android System: 6%
Advanced Taskkiller Free: 5%
Alarm Clock Plus: 4%
Android OS: 3%
I have GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth all off. Autobrightness is off, I just have it set to 11%.
80% after 3 hours of doing absolutely nothing to the phone doesn't seem right. I'm killing apps I'm not using and the only thing more I could really do is kill the live wall paper but it doesn't seem to be taking that much battery life and I really like it.
Any thoughts?
Also it seems to take like an hour and a half to get like 15% charge when plugged into an outlet. It just takes absolutely forever to charge it.
Yea my battery life is also draining really fast. It tells me that the screen is using 73% of the battery though....
Any thoughts?

When I first got it I used it till it died pretty much and then charged it all the way back to full. Wasn't sure if this was necessary or not, but I'm just pointing out that I did it. I have obviously been using it a bunch when I first got it, but now I'm not, trying to see what kind of battery life I have. I haven't done anything except look at the phone a couple times this morning. Haven't even run an app.
Yea same here. Im doing the exact Same thing. I unplugged at like 8am and right now im at 80%

I unplugged my phone about 3 hours ago and I am at 93% battery life.
I am using Juice Defender, and I kill all apps that I don't want open.
I actually think this phone has great battery life. It typically takes a few charge cycles for the battery to settle in. I abuse the phone a lot and it lasts all day for me. Compared to my tilt2 this thing has much better battery. I would suggest that you guys run the battery all the way down, and let it charge fully overnight a few days in a row, and you should see and increase in performance.
Current Battery: 74% Unplugged for 5hrs 14 minutes
Display: 41%
voice calls: 37%

I just installed juicedefender. Looks interesting. We'll see if it makes a difference.
Running down the battery to about 5 or 10 percent and then charging all the way up several times definitely helps. Its been almost eleven hrs since I unplugged and I'm at 73%
Let it run down and then charge all the way up several times. Worked with my phone.

My Battery Life on my bold was better but then it is a different phone and the battery was almost 2 years old but still worked great. Now my battery is at 22% and when I left a 8:50 am PDT, I pulled it off of charge, and I am playing music to intentionally get the battery down to 5% or less before I charge it. Not bad considering, I am constantly doing a ton of stuff, browsing, playing games, playing music the first time, and running google earth/maps as well as you tube videos.
Cheers,
Charlie
ive been unplugged for 2 hours and 27 minutes and im down to 67%
Haven't done much with the phone all day. Installed juicedefender. Left it on easy settings. Not sure how much it's helping so far, if anything. This is my current breakdown: 8h, 48m since unplugged... 35% battery remaining. Display: 45%, cell standby: 16%, phone idle: 10%, Live Wallpaper: 7%, android system: 5%, beautiful widgets, maps, speed test, android OS and advanced task killer 3%, 3%, 3%, 3%, 2% respectively. Still think it's not doing what it should. A good majority of the day I've left it in the off position, not messing with it. 30% by the time I leave work really kind of sucks.
I got the phone Sunday. Used the crap out of it Sunday and Monday and let it run almost down to 0% (it was warning me to plug it in) then let it charge to 100% which took hours and hours and hours. I remember when I had my Iphone down to like 60% when I left work I'd enable pandora streaming and plug it into the car charger and be back up to 85% by the time I got home at least, and it's a half hour drive.
When I plug it into the car charger or a regular outlet I'm lucky if it goes up 2% after a half hour. I'm starting to wonder if this thing has a bad battery.

What is your phone's uptime?
I've been unplugged since 6:45am this morning.. its about 2:40 now and I am at 73%.
I've been downloading apps, playing with androidVNC and just continually tinkering with settings.
My uptime is 111:40:00 and its been 7h 50m since unplugged.
I'm using launcher pro.
I have a bit of speculation that Touchwiz has something to do with it including its special widgets.
Something isn't right with that.

What the iPhone was doing is called a rapid charge. That 85% is not equivalent to an 85% charge that you would get from discharging from 100%

Fair enough. I'm very interested in checking out this article, but I've gotta run now. I was going to give the GPS one more shot on the way home. If I can't get a lock and the battery doesn't get much of a charge being plugged in the whole way I think I may take it back to the AT&T store and see if they'll swap it out or even give me a battery replacement.
Should I reverse the root before I do that, if I do? I know that's entirely off topic. Should I just remove the superuser permission app (if I even can)?
Additionally, just throwing this out there anyway, according to this review: http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/07/23/att-samsung-captivate-review/ their camera is awesome without any settings changes.. I find the regular camera kind of blows. I'll upload some pictures if anyone wants to see em, but I used my phone, on the basic settings, to take pictures of my Iphone which I was selling on ebay and the pictures came out kind of crappy, especially for being 5mega pixel. The video camera looks great, but the picture part of it I am really surprised at. My overarching point is I think there might just be some lemon phones out there possibly, and I think I might have gotten one. I'm running into all the major problems that some people are complaining about. Camera, GPS locking, battery, lagginess of the UI, etc. I think I'm gonna try to get AT&T to swap my phone out.
LIke said in other threads, mine just draining like crazy before but now it seems to be pretty bearable. Here are the things that REALLY helped me:
1.Completely drain the phone till its dead.
2.Fully Charge the phone with it off! Yes you can live without it for a little while
3.Disable the live wallpaper,
4.Use Launchpro and heaurisitc which is the vibration when the 4 buttons at the bottom are used.
5.Reduce vibration overall
6.Dim Screen
7.Turn off everything except I run wireless and fring 24/7 basically
AND this phone is fast,
I dunno if its available through the free launchpro, but I paid for the plus and its sooo fast.
1.I just disable all the animation crap and everything and make everything level 8 on speed of opening up
2.Disable the elastic animation when moving from screen to screen....
3. I would really suggest people pay for launchpro plus, cause its cheap and the work is almost gods gift to cell phones ahahhaa....
Hope this helps....
7am and now its 1PM with Wifi and Fring on since 10am and last checked its at 80% with a 15 minute phone call. and messaging probably 30 messages.
I am going to drain it till its dead tonight again and fully charge with phone off again. I think this helps a lot.
I unplugged my phone at 8:30...listened to an hour of Pandora, checked email, and was on Twitter...down to 85% at 10:30 which is pretty good to me. I also don't have a task killer installed for what its worth.

I just want to mention that I swapped out my captivate at the AT&T store yesterday. I let it almost die, then charged it to full, unplugged it for 5 minutes, charged it to full again, unplugged it for 5 minutes and charged it to full again and left it connected over night.
I've been using the phone all day today, changed settings, texted, generally used it, since about 6:45AM and I'm at 71% battery at 11:35. Insanely better. By a lot. With the old phone I'd be at 30 or 40% by now, honestly.
Additionally, the screen seems much brighter, even at the lowest setting. The camera seems to take better pictures and everything seems much snappier and quicker on the phone, by a lot.
I got the GPS to lock on once, and while it wasn't perfect, it followed me, and then I couldn't get it to lock again unfortunately, but I'll keep messing with it. I think it's a samsung update issue anyway, with regards to the GPS.
I really and truly believe that I got a lemon phone. I know that the AT&T store by me sold out on the first day so I definitely got this one from a different batch. This is like a totally different phone. If anyone else is having these kinds of problems with lag and battery life and things, try getting the AT&T store to swap out your phone. You have 30 days.
The iPhone and many other phones like the Droid charge faster for some reason.

Again with the Battery

Is anyone that is having battery issues running Adao Task Manager and Battery Status Pro?
I just factory reset my phone and I got 24hours of batter life. About 8 standby but a good deal of texting, web, some calls and some you tube.
I installed Task Manager and Batter Status Pro last night and my battery this morning went down 15% in about 1hr.
I uninstalled these today and will post again but has anyone else seen big battery drain from these apps or does anyone that is having issues running something similar?
I have been playing with the battery for about a week now.
For me this phone runs pretty good during stand-by. I would have about 2-3% drop for a whole night (7 to 8 hrs), with Google (push), Twitter and weather syncing.
The problem is when you use it, it drops like crazy. When I read news or surf the web, it would drop 1% every 1 or 2 min.
This morning I read an ebook, with black background for about 30 min, it dropped about 3%.
So basically i think the screen, data connection, and non-black background are the ones that kill the battery.
Yea, I agree, the S-AMOLED screen in this thing is an energy hog. OLED's are supposed to be more energy efficient than typical LCD's but I'm just not seeing it. Whenever I look at battery usage stats it shows the display at 70-75% of battery usage. Thats ridiculous. I have until the 18th, but I'm quickly leaning towards returning this and just getting an iphone4. This phone is becoming more and more disappointing the longer I have it.
This morning I have been uplugged 4.75hrs and used 16% no battery monitor and no app killer. Basically done the same things I did yesterday. Some Bebbled, texting, email, phone calls .
I will update tomorrow with total hours battery life for today. Would be happy if I can replicate the 24hours I got the day before installing those apps.
I got like 45 hours of battery with moderate usage during the two days. Seems fine to me, I occasionally used system panel to monitor if anything was using high and constant CPU
This is pretty typical of a 1ghz phone My nexus would last a day of heavy usage, 2 days if i use it lightly. We need to wait for undervolted kernels to be developed xD
Also, it really helps if you disable 3G when you don't use it. This allows me to get 3-4 days of light usage out of my nexus. I haven't played with the Captivate long enough to know how much of a difference this makes on this phone though
when you guys refer to "stand by", what exactly do you mean? Just screen off/phone idle? The battery usage on my phone when I use it seems to be OK even if not amazing, but it continues to sap life from the battery when I'm using it at an alarming rate.
Standby is when the phone is idle/screen off/locked.
The display is definitely power hungry. Using the Power Control widget that comes installed definitely has helped with battery life. It will let you toggle WiFi, BT, GPS, Data Sync, and Brightness (at 3 levels). When I'm not using anyone of those, I turn it off. When I'm indoors, I'll set the brightness to the lowest level. I'm usually at my desk when I'm streaming music, so I'll have it plugged in.

This is true the white screens burn the battery etc. I just wanted to let everyone know what I did to make my battery last more that 24hrs.
First, read the Wiki guide and apply some of the battery saving tips.
Second, UNINSTALL a program called "gReader" created by noinnion. This program is a huge battery hog! At least it was for me.
Hope this helps.
Well I guess I am one of the "lucky ones" Im running a live wallpaper and have not run my battery down since the 1st day. Right now Im at 40% life and at 15 Hrs 30m since unplugged. This is with checking facebook, twitter, email, phone calls, internet browsing\video watching and following the steps for the GPS fix. The only thing I have done is install ATK on the phone, besides that its all stock.
One thing I know is a huge battery drain is Time without Service. Check that stat and see if you have anytime at all without service, if so, I am pointing to that as a major drain on the battery. I know currently I have 0% Time without signal, my fiancee however is usually in the 20+% range and her battery drains like many reports I have seen here (she has an EVO).....
Yesterday I only managed 16 hours. Web, Email, A bluetooth file transfer, short bit of gaming. I have about 5% of the cell standby time (26%) without signal. My girlfriend has the Aria which is running Android 2.1 also, has all sorts of widgets, haptic feedback on and can make it at least 24 hours. I get that it has a smaller screen but it is also an LCD. Shouldn't the Super Amoled be saving our battery some display consumption.
i get about 14 hours or so moderate usage and at the end of the day, i have about 35% left at night.
If you detail the "Display" usage in the battery usage details how many minutes has your screen been on? Mine says 1hour 2mins ...this is for 8 hours of running time. My display is using 50% of the battery (which is at 68% now).
W00t W00t today I have reached a new high 2 Days 6 hours and 29 minuts with 12% battery left.....
What I have found is keeping Wifi on while I am at work and home like almost doubled my battery life. Which is great that I can use Wifi all day and not drain the battery so fast like my Fuze. Right now been off charger since 7:30am and I have 84% left. Yesterday after 9 hours I was still over 50%. For me its better than any other smartphone I have owened.
I used manual brightness, (swipe notification bar), turn off GPS/BT. black wallpaper and set Wifi to never sleep. Also the power saving mode in settings is off for other reason and doesn't affect battery.
At 18% right now and it's been off the charger for about 30 hours. I noticed yesterday that while I was connected to wifi at home (with Y5 app), it was draining faster than when I was connected to 3g. Did some tested back and forth and JuicePlotter clearly had a noticeably steeper downward slope for when wifi was connected than when it was using 3g. Weird :\

Foyo update...Battery life shortened ?

Has anyone noticed their battery life seems shorter since the update ? I installed the official froyo update last night and it seems I'm running out of juice much quicker than before.
At first mine ran down faster. I ran it all the way down. Charged it. And ran it all the way down again and charged. It seems back to normal.
I didn't have any issues. Maybe you changed something else as well? Could always try a few recharge cycles and see if it stabilizes..
I was running the leaked 2.2 and I flashed to official 2.2. My battery life is almost double what it was. I can't complain one bit about battery life, although I have other gripes with the official Froyo release.
I'm with icepop on this one.. I was running the stock rogers rom pre-update and now with the official rogers 2.2 I'm getting at least double the use before having to charge again.
I'm having battery issues with the new stock Froyo. I lose a huge amount of juce when in standby. I thought I may have my widgets updating too often so I charged it up and put it into airplane mode last night. The phone lost about 1% per hour in airplane mode. IDK what is normal but that seems like a lot to me. I didn't have any apps running, except my alarm was set for the morning.
I have SystemPanel installed and my cpu load NEVER goes below 10 percent, even in airplane mode. I suspect this is a large part of the issue. In app history, system and system processes are always on the top of the list and are around 3% each. IDK what controls this or how to lower it. I would love some feedback from someone else with SystemPanel just to see how our numbers compare. Overall the battery life I'm experiencing is pretty terrible and a buddy of mine's Fascinate has much better battery life (hence something must be wrong somewhere). He and I were skiing all day over the weekend and when we got back to our cars, my phone was half dead and his had lost almost zero juice. This displeases me.
mine's was better actually. but i didnt stayon it for long
My initial results with 2.2 were very bad (10% drop per hour when idling). I reset the phone back to 2.1 then re-installed 2.2. This did not help. Now I did this again (2.1 then 2.2) but this time I have not re-installed my apps and have not rooted (yet). So far, battery life seems to be normal. I suspect that some of my applications might mis-behave when installed on 2.2. I am planning to add them slowly and watch the battery.
Not here, seems the same to me
Mine is terrible ! I don't know what it might have been on 2.1 as I upgraded fairly quickly. Essentially I charge all night and then disconnect from power at 6:30am and then by 4:30pm I'm out of juice (phone shuts off). Any ideas here? I'm not running anything extravegant (email only) and hardly make any calls.
Whenever you flash to a new ROM, wait for at least a week of normal usage before you judge the battery life. The reason is simple, your battery stats are reset after ROM flash and your new OS needs time to learn how your battery drains before it can give you accurate readings.
If you can't wait for that long, you need follow the battery calibration thread to force a manual calibration of the battery.
I'll give it a week and see how it is then. Definitely is draining much quicker now though. I think It acted similiarly when I first got the phone as well. If I recall correctly the batter life sucked when I first got it, but then a week or so seemed to get much better.
I did the manual battery recalibration (let it die, charge while off, turn on and bump charge...etc). Last night I lost about 2.5% of battery per hour while in standby. This seems improved since calibration but its still pretty terrible IMHO. Is this in line with the amount of drain other are getting or am I draining more than usual?

Running stock since purchasing the Captivate back in August, and so far battery life actually seems to be routinely as good if not better than 2.1. I must admit I didn't use my phone a huge amount yesterday (except for about an hour plus of downloading a bunch of wallpapers off Zedge for some ungodly reason lol), and after 18 hours of the phone being on I was still over 50% battery life left. 2.5% in standby doesn't sound like all is well - you must have something running in the background or similar issue. I have a live background, sync 5 e-mail accounts (granted, only one of those is every 15 minutes - the others are every thirty minutes, every hour, and once a day on two of them), and with light use I am getting over 40 hours with 2.2 so far (about in line with 2.1, but seems maybe just a little better). Heavy use I am dropping more like to the 12 - 18 hour mark (heavy use for me means the screen on more than off, actively playing games or using apps, large amounts of texting, etc. Solid game playing I haven't figured out a drain yet, but on some games it seems like I can drop almost the whole battery in close to 10 hours). At your rate of 2.5% per hour in standby you would only make it forty hours without even using the phone. I have been using mine just a little this morning (FB check, logging in to one of the desktops at work remotely to make some changes, live background running, WiFi sleep policy is set to when screen is off, but to be honest that is about it) and I haven't moved off the 100% mark yet and the phone has been unplugged over an hour and a half.
All that said though, as other users have stated you might want to give it a little more time for the system to recalibrate the battery usage. I would definitely check your processor usage though regularly to see if anything seems 'off'. One thing that caused me problems was that my SNS service would be running but then would get stuck in a pattern of 'Restarting' - would drain my battery rapidly.
It has been said that bettery drain is not linear. First 5% goes real fast. So, you need to judget the average over a day of use, not first hour or so. I'm still in first week of ROM flashing. So I can't confirm anything yet.

Very curious quirk On Android Open Kang Project ROM... Near Unlimited Battery!!!!

hi all...
soo after my comments over a week ago on the aokp website for this build, i decided afterall to take the plunge and update. i was on b26, so subsequently had to flash b27 and then this. everything has gone absolutely swimmingly with no issues at all so far....
HOWEVER>>>>>
I am faced with a very puzzling quirk. its by nooooo means a problem at all, infact it quite the opposite!!! let me explain.
i've started charging my phone in the evening these days for some stupid reason and then, when charged taking it off and going to bed. After getting this milestone on, my battery has been killed over night, draining to around 15%. Normally, it would drain to around 70% and be flat by the end of the day ready for charging again.
This continued for a few days when i decided to root out the cause of the massive overnite idle drain. I installed a fantastic free app called Badass Battery Monitor (which i highly recommend btw!), and over a period of a couple of days the offending app was weeded out. It was Nova Launcher. This had never happened to me before and couldn't understand it. So, as part of my diagnostics, I decided to confirm the findings by removing it and just using stock.
Over a couple of days monitoring, with exactly the same charging method, my battery levels returned to normal drainage with around 75% battery left by the morning. Fantastic. I had found the problem fixed it and got back to normal. Soooo where is the quirk i here you say!!!? lol Well......
On average, from everything i've read in forums, battery drain overnight while phone in standby is around 20/30%, so mine WAS right up there with the majority of you.
Last night, i decided to charge to full and then wipe battery stats. Which i did. Now, bare in mind here that I ONLY have the standard battery that is supplied with the Galaxy Nexus. I got up this morning, and to my utter amazement, my battery had only drained 2%
Now been incredibly realisting here based on average overnight drains, i was 100% sure that this was deffo an error. I have done everything from restarting the phone, taking the battery out, but still the level in my battery was saying the same.
As I sit here writing this, I have been streaming a radio station via wifi on the phone for the last 2 hrs, and atm my battery is telling me that it is STILL 85% full.
I am DEFFO not complaining, but i'm sure now, you can see why the hell i am so puzzled! HOW THE HELL IS THIS HAPPENING, because i can genuinely find no explanation at all for it
as a follow up, it is now more or less 5 hrs since my orginal post, and my battery is reporting that it is 75% full
Jeesh, 20 to 30 idle drain overnight? My phone drains about 3 to 5 overnight which is typically 8 hours of sleep.

Interesting quirk. Are you a heavy or a light user? It'd be nice to see how it drains after a full drain and recharge.

well, to see if what was been reported was correct, i've been an absolute heavy user today. i have wifi on, ive streamed radio via internet for around 3 hrs, ive been playing all sorts of games and watched a few youtube vids. and my battery is atm reporting 74% life left
so here i am, STILL very very puzzled..
my battery life is just going and going with no signs of running flat... have a look at these screenshots and give me an explanation as to why i suddenly have a super battery!
MAYBE you really have a super battery or your mobile is glitched and shows the battery like that due to laG?
I'm on miui and I lose 0% overnight. It just depends on the ROM, but 20-30% is ridiculous!

AOKP IS AMAZING
AOKP MS4 CM9, *goes all day without charging phone *

Your states do not seem super impressive. On most phones the screen is the biggest drain. You show 49% battery with a screen on of only 1 hour. After 33 hours you've only used your phone for 1 hour screen on. Thats VERY little.
I usually get 2.5-3 hours of screen on time for my galaxy nexus.

Thanks for the app recommendation! Been looking for something like it all day.
This will depend on ROM/Radio/Kernel user installed programs/sync etc but 2-6% is normal drain over night anyone with 20% needs to seriously look @ battery stats and work out what's causing wake locks.
Also not forgetting most phones need to bed in after a flash which can take 2-3 days before we see real battery info.
