Hi,
We can change the settings in the control panel manually. We can also change the related registry enties for some settings and make a soft-reset to activate the modified settings.
I would like to know if there is some way to activate the settings without a soft-reset after modifying registry, just by running a small program or invoking a function -- so the settings can be modified automatically.
So do you know any method, program or resource to implement this, especially for the regional settings?
Thank you!
Why you hve to make soft reset when you change the Regional settings???

I am talking about the method to switch the regional settings Automatically, not to set them Manually in Settings->System->Regional and Language.
So, after modifying the registry keys related to the regional settings, how to make the modified keys take effect without a soft-reset, i.e., how to let the system immediately know that this setting has been changed and please refresh the related data about this in the memory? Thanks!
Any solution, guys? Thanks!
Wait for a while, maybe.

Works for some other settings, but for regional settings, seems the only way to fully activate all changes is through a soft reset, some services need to be reloaded.

Hi, does anyone know how to reset defaults in sounds and notifications so that every time I soft reset I don't need to go in and reset all preferances like sms notification etc?
Dear,
I guess it has something to do with the registry. Set everything up to your preference and use the Regedit to back up your registry & store it in a non-volitile memory. When you do hard-resent, restore your registry and there you go. I haven't tried it myself, but I think it'll work, anyone please verify this. Thanks
Cheers
Is it possible to deactivate the virtual keyboard when, for example, a textbox is selected?

I've already asked this question somewhere but no answer :|

Try this:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip>:
Create or change DWORD TurnOffAutoDeploy from 0 to 1

Edit 2: worked ... had to re-enter reg change
Edit:to disable sip completely use
HKEY_CURRENT_USERControlPanelSipAllowChange (DWORD 1->0)
I tried the first option and it didn't work. I'll try the second option and see the result.
Thanks

That really messed things up. Changing it didnt work, so I tried a soft reset. Once I did, the keyboard was permanently on the screen and refused to go away at all!! Changed it back to '1', did a soft reset and things were back to normal.
If you type something using the HW keyboard when the software keyboard is displayed then it should go away and shouldn't reappear next time.

the first option does work but you have to make sure the change is commited to memory in the registry
try using a program called Ceregeditor
available here
http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/
I couldn't get it to work either, created the dword, saved it, soft rest and checked it was ok, still didn't work
the best would be a method to deactivate SIP only when physical keyboard is open

Yea that's what I was looking for. I want to disable it completely. Just use the hardware keyboard. But it doesn't work.

Yeap,
I've tried both registry chagnges today
First one doesnt work at all, sip is still popping up on thet field
Second one made a little mess in settings - the keyboard stayed all the time, there was no option to disable it so I've roll back settings to default and ... still waiting for solution

So there is no solution so far or ?
thanks

I can think of a solution but the problem is who will implement it (it is not so hard):
If the physical keyboard is open it is detectable right? (the system already reacts to it, may play a sound, presents the side sortcuts, rotates the screen)
Why not in addition to those actions, also SWITCH SIP to an EMPTY one? This way even if we cannot easily interrupt the system from trying to pop up the SIP, at least it will pop up a "null" one!
What do you think?
did anyone find the correct solution for this to deactivate sip keyboard when hardware keyboard is opened.

Probably another program overriding your selections. Try try going to Menu button on your phone and select Settings option, scroll down to the Applications section and tap it. On the next screen, tap Manage Applications and then the All tab on the subsequent screen, scroll down the list of apps until you see the App in question listed and tap that entry. On the next screen look for the "Launch by default" section and hit the Clear defaults button. Reboot and select the default program you want and see if it sticks on the next reboot. Let me know if this helps.

good logical advice, which you would assume would do the trick.
unfortunately, it doesn't fix the problem
i was wondering if there's a file somewhere whch can be edited & locked?
im not 100% sure where those things are saved, maybe in settings.db file of the android settings app.
Check your phones app directory, there should be something like
com.android.providers.settings and com.android.settings
I could imagine that the filepermissions are wrong on certain files and thus your new selection are not saved.
i've searched for hours with no success for a db file. i do believe you are on the right trac but it'll take a smarter mind than my own to highlight where the setting is hiding.
there is a lockscreen toggle option on the redux2 rom, so i've asked over there.
thank you both for your thoughts
Hello,
Anyone can explain what does Default Power Status setting?
I can be set ON or OFF, tried both settings, and same result.
Thank you.
Anyone can clarify please?
Hello, never set OFF! Although the device should turn off completely every time and boot from the beginning after turning on, but it may happen that you do not turn on at all, then the only option is to restore to the original state, by updating the MCU using the dmcu.cfg file and if you have this backup of the factory settings he didn't, then you will have a big problem. Save factory settings/ EXPORT/ dmcu.cfg to external storage.
ON is set as standard from the factory, the selected sleep mode should work on the device and remember the time and saved radio stations.
Memory the status of last: if the device does not remember saving stations, or has a problem with sleep mode, try choosing this option.
If you don't have the dmcu.cfg file, then don't touch the factory settings, the worst thing is to change the customer version, each manufacturer has a different number and this determines a specific setting that, if changed, can completely change the control of the device.
Rule of thumb: if it works, I don't touch it.
Hello @Pavel-71
Thank you for the reply.
I use KOReader which wasn't working well with the Pixel 7 Pro because of the front camera hole.
So I made it so the app would draw over the camera. This means the status bar icons also draw over the camera hole.
Now I want to revert back to the default state so the system and apps won't draw over it.
I thought I did it via Developer Options, Display Cutout. But it's already set to "Device default".
Now I can't figure out how to go back to the default.
Is there some other setting that could affect this?

If you can't find and correct the hidden user setting you altered you'll need to do a factory reset to purge the erroneous setting.

That's what I'm trying to figure out by asking here! I can't remember
I thought the Developer setting was how I did it, but that hasn't helped.

Try toggling Developer options off temporarily.

Hi thanks for your time helping with this, really appreciate it.
Not sure if I'm misunderstanding you, but I will try disabling "Developer options" completely. The phone is now rebooting after I disabled that.
(I've tried to switch between different "Display cutout" settings and going back to "Device default" hoping it'll fix it, but it didn't.)

Exactly. Sometimes Developer options goes nuts. Disabling resets all changes to default settings.
If an app you installed started this, reinstall it and see if you can disabled what caused it with the app's settings. That's the easiest way to access the hidden setting change. After it's fixed get rid of that poorly coded app!
Had a reader the altered the display color. After uninstalling the app the change remained. Reinstalled, turn off the setting that caused it, uninstalled the buggy app. It should have reset the hidden user settings to default when uninstalled. Rarely some Android apps don't uninstall cleanly and cause damage to the system. I avoid "sampling" in part because of this. This OS (Pie) load is 3 yo now... still running strong with no system upgrades or updates.
