well i just came across this problem orginally i had no idea what my original RC version was, but since i live in canada and didn't have a data plan setup yet i followed the guide to downgrading to the RC29(Rooted) version so i could activate my phone via wifi. But after experiencing problems reading and writing with my 8GB patriot memory card on my phone only. I looked this problem up on google and it seems that the RC33 update fixed this problem. So i downloaded the RC33 upgrade files and attempted to install them. But i ended up with an error like the following.
Code:
E:Failure at line1:
assert file_contains("SYSTEM:build.prop", " ro.build.fingerprint=tmobile/kila/dream/trout:1.0/TC4-RC30/116143:user/ota-rel-keys, release-keys") == "true" || file_contains("SYSTEM:build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint=tmobile/kila/dream/troInstallation aborted.
Copied from someone with a similar problem
then the phone just asks to reboot, instead of installing RC33
Anyone know how to upgrade from RC29(Downgraded version) to RC33 or a modded version of RC33 that will help me fix my micro SDHC bug
Thanks in advance (Sorry to be a leech signing up to ask for help )
Where did you get the RC33 update from?
Here's the thread with all the info you need for upgrading to a rooted RC33:

As with every mod to the phone, do so at your own risk.

Sorry man, not to be mean but read the thread, not just the title. The title just says that it's updated for RC9 as well, but in the thread itself you'll see links to the RC33 download.
You may want to do more research on the board before doing all this. I spent quite a bit of time reading threads even before attempting to root my phone.

How to downgrade from Rc33
Ok...I updated to RC33. Didn't know before I updated that I wouldn't be able to go from RC33 to root. So now I need to downgrade.
Can anyone help me downgrade from RC33 to RC29? Or maybe even RC33 to RC30? I searched and couldn't find anything on this but did see someone post that JF walked someone thru it recently....how ever I can not find it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I been in that thread....it's instructions to downgrade from RC30....not RC33.
And I have been going backwards in that thread from the latest posts for about 10 pages now and see nothing about downgrading from RC33.
Doesn't matter what rom you have installed as of now.
You need to follow the instructions and then pick which rom betters you.
Or even try going straight to 30 by renaming it, update, and install it in recovery mode.
Ok....I missed one small word....RC30 and above...
Thanks...in the process of trying to gain root now...
To make it clear for me, is the old downgrading process with a new german RC33 G1 still possible or will it fail because of an new SPL?

if so, it's a bit strange because i have root access on RC33 Oo

Think he means he upgraded to OTA RC33. Anyway like the previous posters have already indicated, the NBH file downgrades OTA RC33 as well.
ah i see, my mistake.
Hey guys I have two quick questions:
1. I have an OTA rc33 (stock) update on my phone I just received today, in order to root my g1, I will need to downgrade to the stock rc29. It's imposible just to get my phone rooted straight from rc33?
2. If the first question is true. After I downgrade and rooted the rc29, can I just download the latest jfv1.41 rc33 (developer version) ? Or I would need to update the rooted rc30 first in order to get the jfv1.41 rc33.
Your kindly help and suggestion are greatly appreciated.

Correct you need to downgrade to RC29 first for root.

For RC29 you can install JF's Modded version of RC33

Just One Question:
Is it still possible to downgrade with an GERMAN G1 with the original Bootloader installed on it, or is the security hole fixed which allows downgrading with the nbh File. Please do someone answer me that question please
I tried root but had problems went back to RC29 stock but now I would like to go to RC33. What do I need to do to manually update?
Viper
Links to manually update are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=479571
i manually installed rc33 ota update and so i decided root my g1 then i get stuck on the colorful boot screen.
as the instructions on downgrading from rc30 i suspect it would be the same on a g1 with rc33.
im not sure if the formatting was done correct but i did the following:
on my eee linux netbook i typed
umnount /dev/sdd1
mkdosfs -F 32 /dev/sdd1
the zip file contained a file named "DREAIMG.nbh" the instructions quoted the file name as "DREAMIMG.nbh" so i tried it with both names and i get the same thing.

Thanks but that want work as I am at RC29 right now. That file says from RC30 to RC33.
Viper
Hi all
First off Ive read every single thread about downgrading so far
I have tried nearly everything to downgrade
but it keeps saying
No Signature
Verification Failed
I think it has something to do with me installing the RC33 upgrade a while ago
when the new update came out I downloaded the RC33 update from some forum and installed it
now I have no Idea on how to update it to a JFv1.41-RC33 update so I can downgrade it with the DREAIMG.nbh
Any Help would be appreciated!
I know I have to run the DREAIMG.nbh in SPL mode Camera + Power button I Did this but then I get not allowed error and it goes back to the SPL mode and wont install the DREAIMG.nbh
Thins I tried to fix this:
Factory Reset
Hard Wipe
Thanks in advance,
Bump anyone I really want to fix this.
"goldcard" "qmat" maybe that could help?
daft question... but
do you have DREAIMG.nbh on the 'root' of your sdcard?
if not then put it on the root
if it is on the 'root' you could try downloading a fresh copy
Hmm How Do I put it in the root??
I just connected my phone trough USB formatted it fat32 ( 8 GB SD )
and then I just copied it to my SD Card is there any other way on how I Should put this on the Root of my SD?
Thanks for the quick reply's
Anyone?
And what does qmat actually do?
Ive been trying to fix it now for a few days tried so many things but nothing worked so far.
Anyone?
So, you currently have RC33 installed, right? I would redownload the DREAIMG.nbh file. Make sure its the RC29 version and not the RC7 version.
I Did that even tried it on my friends PC last night redownloaded the RC29 and reformatted my SD Card
But the DREAIMG.nbh still says not allowed.
Does it have to be formatted in a Cardreader? cuz what ive done so far is connected my phone trough usb and formatted it while it was in the phone.
If you don't have a clue what qmat is, than you did not read the complete manual.
Qmat is essential in this downgrade-proces.
Greets,
JP
I know what Qmat is I read about it I wanna know if it is really neccesairy since I do not have any windows mobile based phones.
yes it is.
Ok is there a way to do it without a windows mobile device or linux?
Have the same problem now
Any help is appreciated

The above is probably just badly phrased, but you do have to downgrade your stock RC33 firmware to the stock RC29 firmware BEFORE you can upgrade to JF1.41 or whatever.
Are you following the instructions on this page exactly?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Dream_Rooting
Whenever I was having trouble with rooting, it turned out I wasn't following the directions.
ok since there are 5 threads right now on the first page about how to do it and there shouldn't be, this is what you do, i will not link anything to anything because you should be able to find everything pretty easily(they are all stickies)
so all of you that messed something up on your phone and need to get it back into warranty this is how, FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
NOTE: if you have flashed a custom splash screen to splash2 then you will need to erase that before step one with this code
plug phone into usb in fastboot mode
Code:
fastboot erase splash2
After that you will have only one splash screen and when you flash the .nbh you will be fine
1. Get the original SPL for your phone, get it here
2. Rename it to update.zip and copy it to your sd card. /sdcard
3. Download the DREAIMG.nbh from here.
4. Place DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your SD card. /sdcard
5. Go into your phones recovery. [Hold the home & power button]
6. Push Alt+S on your G1 to flash it with update.zip
7. After it does its thing, gettig back to your home screen.
4. Start phone in bootloader. [Hold camera+power button]
5. Hit power to start the update DO NOT INTERRUPT!! i can not stress this enough.
6. Click on the action button(track ball) and your phone will reboot.
7. YOU NOW HAVE STOCK FIRMWARE, it will update on it's own in a little bit, or *Settings>About phone>System Updates*
MODS PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU TO STICKY THIS POST OR AT LEAST THIS ONE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485364
so that people can stop posting: how can i unroot my phone or can i revert back to stock firmware like theres not 10 different posts about it.
Mods sticky
Hey man you got my vote it was drivin me insane tryin to find this and thank you!!! Also, just to amke sure that it worked, what is it supposed to say on "About Phone". Thank you man
Just wanted to add one point - I followed this guide, but there's one bit that might not be obvious.
DREAIMG.nbh will restore your phone *mostly* to stock. There's one thing it won't change - the second splash image. If you've changed your splash images, you might want to restore them to stock separately before following these instructions.
Wouldn't be an issue for most users, but in my case the keyboard bit the dust and I had to do a return, and once I set it back to stock I couldn't re-root (and was left returning the phone with a custom second splash image).
i followed all of these steps and as it was applying the dreamimg rc29 for me it said failure... what do i try now? it seems that now my phone will only boot to the multi-colored screen and everytime i try to apply the update it fails about 3/4th of the way through... my phone doesnt work... any thoughts on how to fix this?
found the problem, sorry for my ignorance i didnt format the card completely so there were other files in the root and all i did was reformat and just copy the nbh file back over and it worked just fine sorry guys
one question...do i have to find the stock rc30 and rc33 to update also?? aren's there somethings required to update to cupcake? (like radio??)

you don't need to find the RC30 or RC33 files because when you have the stock RC29 your phone will update on it's own after a few hours. the only thing needed to upgrade to cupcake is the cupcake image. the radio is a choice and you ocan choose not to flash it. i still use the original radio that came on the phone with RC30 simply because i have been too lazy to get the latest radios
bump. good info

I rooted my fone for the first time today and played around. In the end I decided to unroot, because I need steeel and chompsms too much.
I went back to RC7 (my phone was previously RC9 before I rooted). How long should I expect to wait before my G1 auto-updates?
Thanks!
this should be a sticky... thanx
the greatest thing about the thread? well since making it i have only seen two people post that they need to unroot their phone and don'w know how. woo hoo
how long does it usually take to upgrade on its own? its been over 2 hours now and nothing..
its been over 24 hours since ii brought mine back to "stock" and i still havent received the update, what the f is going on? is this normal? sorry but im a newb.
same here I am back to the orignal RC29 but have not received any OTA like RC33???
to all of you that haven't recieved an update yet, there is an option in settings that will allow you to check for updates. or download anycut and create a shortcut. if you do not know how to follow the instructions in this thread you probably shouldn't have rooted your phone. i have reciueved many PM's about how to do this and as much as i am willing to help you, i expect you to have SOME common sense, if you do not i will not help
sorry man, didn't mean to piss you off, i stated im a newbie, i have the firm belief that nobody learns unless they try it themselves, albeit some help from others never hurts, + the version checker is on rc33, not rc29, hence i cannot take that route, if not i already would have. i guess ill simply continue to wait, phone works fine, just does not load any apps that have to be paid for on marketplace, i work for t-mobile, so im hoping that they may have stopped ota's of rc33 since we are launching 1.5 soon. quick question for those who know, is the build number supposed to be TC4-RC29 115247? this is the one i have. Thanks man!
+ I followed your instructions to a t. and have the classic "rainbow" android boot screen.
What happend to the sticky?? I culd have sworn this was stick yesterday.. PS thanks for this thread as i had to unroot my first g1 now i might have to do my second one .. argg..
Alternate way to revert to stock firmware without waiting for update
Hello,
This is my first post. I have been using an alternate way that I figured out to return to stock. This also works when you try to install an official update and it rejects the package due to invalid keys or device checks. You MUST already have root on your phone for this to work.
1) download official firmware image (whatever version you want)
2) extract recovery image from package to root of SD card
3) rename downloaded package to update.zip and place in root of SD card
3) reflash recovery image from terminal on rooted g1
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd sdcard flash_image recovery recovery.img
cat recovery.img > /system/recovery.img
4) Restart phone in recovery mode and proceed with update
5)Profit! Well, stock g1 without having to flash to RC29 and wait for an update.
I feel this is a more straightfoward way to flash back to stock. YMMV.
So I've lurked here for a while reading many posts and whatnot, and have also updated to the latest JF release 1.5. Anyways, onto the question. After about 10 minutes of search button clicking, I've yet to find out how to flash the radio update I have to the phone. I've had a few complaints saying that i sound pretty bad while talking on the phone and I'm hoping this might fix it, but if not at least I'm at the latest radio version.
Here is what I recently got:
ota-radio-2_22_19_26I
Can someone walk me through on how to flash this and to the phone? If i have to wipe so be it. or if there's a guide on this can someone post it cause the search function missed it =/

Rename the zip to "update", put it on the root of your SD card and apply it like you do with any other flash.
Ok, then do I have to reflash the JF1.5 after that?

ok so when you say it flashes your radio what exactly does that mean and what does that do for or to the phone?? I have looked and looked for the answer to this and I have found NOTHING thanks!! anyone that knows can def answer!!!!
radio
Think of the radio as a manager in the store it kinda tells eveything how to work and when to work and to os as the worker pluging along not paying atention to this till the manager says stop you farked things up or it's quiting time
Ok, so riddle me this: does a rooted phone with jf adp 1.5 and the old 1.22 radio have issues with bluetooth not routing sound away from the internal speaker, and into the actual bluetooth device???
Hello everyone,
I received an update today on my rooted G1. It has the official ADP 1.5 google rom installed on it. It downloaded an update and then reflashed my spl and then threw an Error that CID's do not match. The update failed to install. The file that was downloaded(I have it saved if anyone wants me to upload it) identified its self as CRB43 update and was only 4.3M. I have the logcat files and the file. Is this the cupcake update we are waiting for?
**Note** I am at work and can't upload or post logcat right now but will do so as soon as I get back (2AM EST).**
I don't think it's the Cupcake update as it's a mere 4.3M. Could be a hotfix for the 1.5ADP.
The Official Tmobile based Cupcake coming from 1.1 Should be 35megs + But since you were 1.5 ADP already the keys were most likely Test keys.

Using Normal Keys
Hello,
I was not using the test keys and was using release keys. The full name of the file is "signed-gfh-CRB43-from-CRB21.c88b03d2.zip". It won't update on my current setup. I was using Haykuro's extended partition SPL and have a feeling this has something to do with it. I'll have some time when I get home to figure this all out and also be able to wipe and install crb21 with release keys and then apply this update to see what is going on.
tried to flash it because im a fricking noob but it was all set and gave a huge error message....heres a direct link

Cupcake update is BS. You got guys on here pumping out Rom's every other day. Then there's a simple phone company who cant compete with the big boys (att, version) who cant put out a rom we have had for all most two months. I don't know about anybody else, but im not buying it.
I'm scared that my noob cousins and friends, who I rooted and installed jf v1.5 for, will get this update patch notification and install it, then they're going to call me to tell me that their phones are not working.
