Hi,
Following some of the fantastic threads in this great forum I have managed (without pulling out all of my hair!) to SIM unlock my T-Mobile UK MDA Vario III.
I have had some side effects...
First I had no sound
Then extreme slowness
Now the stylus does no work. Yes, that's correct I cannot input with the stylus! Using a finger (which is not convenient a lot of the time) seems to work OK, albeit hit and miss regarding accuracy.
I have searched the threads for this problem and only came up with this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342167
I believe that the issue may be the combination of ROM/Radio. Before I head off and spend several days trying different combinations does anyone have a recommendation?
The phone has been SIM unlocked from T-Mobile and will predominantly be used on Movistar in Spain.
Thanks
Just an update...
Well, I very soon got bored of trying different combinations so instead downloaded and installed NoThrills_WM61_WWE_V3
A great package! Not sure that I've tried all programs installed but everything that I need are working great. And it seems faster than when I had the original T-Mobile setup...
Now to leave it a week to settle down, so no more flashing for me for a while!!!!

A friend of mine recently took her T-mobile MDA Compact to a High St vendor to have it unlocked. Whatever they have done to it, they appear to have buggered it up properly.
She gave it to me to try and fix it.
When I got it, it would only turn on to the splash screen with the ROM versions displayed, and wouldn't load any further than that. It also wasn't detectable by Active Sync, so I had no choice but to put it into bootloader mode, and try to restore the ROM on the device in this way, as there was obviously something wrong with what was on it.
The upgrade started fine, using the ROM off the T-mobile web page, completing the Radio Rom upgrade fine. However, when it got to 10% of the Extended ROM, an error occured, and shut the program down:
ROMUpgradeUt.ex.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.
An error log is being created
I tried this a couple of times with the T-mobile Rom, and got the same result, at exactly the same point.
I thought that perhaps there may have been a problem with the T-mobile UK version of ROM, so I thought as it was pretty messed up anyways, I would try loading another T-mobile ROM on to it. I trie both teh German, and the Dutch registered T-mobile ROM's, getting the exact same error during the upgrade, at exactly the same point.
I then changed computers to try and rule out any possible problem there, and the same result again.
I then proceded to try using the iMate ROM, changing the MaUpgradeUt file to the no ID one, as suggested earlier in this thread, and again got exactly the same result, with the second ROM upgrade stage stalling, and cancelling at exactly 10 again.
Can anybody offer me any assistance with this, or any ideas, or id it possible that the High St vendor has buggered it totally??????
And to boot, the store charged my friend £50 for buggering up her phone, when it is a pretty simple, 5 minute process to unlock one at home!!!!!
I'm no expert but just a thought, it is definately an mda compact and not an mda compact II isn't it? They look the same but are not.

No, I am very sure that it is the original T-mobile UK MDA Compact. I actually have one of each of the Compact and Compact II myself.
So I haven't been here in a while but it seems that everyone and their Mom are making Rom's for HTC devices. Also it seems the tilt is known by a few names so I never am quite sure if I'm reading info for the right phone.
I looked at the wiki but a lot of that information is old. So I guess my 1st question is this:
My company is getting me a AT&T Tilt and the 1st thing I want to do is get rid of the bloatware from AT&T. There doesn't seem to be a catch all for all things related to the tilt.
So what ROM's are stable enough to install?
Are these phones unable to be sim unlocked (not like it matters)?
ISo you can flash the Radio ROM seperate from the Phone RIM (I'm so confused)?
And finally this phone can still be CID unlocked (Which will need to happen)in order to flash a unofficial "cooked ROM on to the handset)?
If there is one post that shows all this info that would be awesome. I've followed a few threads but the information seems disjointed and then others start talking about handsets similar to the tilt but I don't know if it applies.
Soft for all the newbie questions.
I had a TMo Dash and MDA and then a Cingular 8125. That was over 6 months ago. Started a new job and they made me go to a blackberry. Then we got bought by Qualcomm so now I have convinced my boss to get me this phone.
Thanks in advance
It's all here. Your Tilt is an HTC Kaiser and you're in the right forum! Some quick answers:
HardSPL gives CID unlock
No free SIM unlock yet
All ROMs are stable.
Independent radio flashing is limited b/c AT&T's latest ROM features a radio unique to it. Sound is lost if either of the two appear separately. Orange ties SIMLock to their radio so if you flash a different radio on an Orange phone, you will need to sim unlock with several of the free unlockers to get up and running again. However you can flash a different ROM on Orange w/o touching the radio and everything's golden still.
Look at the sticky threads in upgrading for more complete answers. Happy hunting!
Nice executive summary Sleuth, however I have difficulties to understand what you mean with this:

What exactly do you mean with several of the free unlockers?
oops damn, what a typo! I meant "several of the not-free" unlockers....
Try looking here as well:

No worries, actually a very interesting phenomenom.
Did any of the guys have to do a double unlock? (i.e. before and after they moved to orange radio). And were the codes different?
hope this helps
hardspl is necessary for ROM flashing (sleuth kinda glazed over it)
when you put on hardspl, it won't look like anything was done, but you can then flash ROMs as much as you'd like.
I stick with at&t ROMs to avoid radio issues.
You could always start by hard resetting and then soft resetting before the at&t customizations install. Either way it's a good idea to test out the stock ROM.
Hi,
I've had my Touch Pro for about a month and I've had enough of that stupid Vodafone start-up screen and everything!
So I've been reading up on this forum and downloaded Total Commander, Advanced Config and RegEdit and I haven't seen anything on here about ROM's on a Vodafone Touch Pro...........and I'm a bit scared of bricking my phone!
So has anyone got an idiots' guide to getting a decent ROM on my Touch Pro? I mainly just want to get rid of all the Vodafone branding and then maybe start playing about with it more!
Thanks
I've just got a Vodafone one too! And was wondering the same thing
I'll await answers from the masses
I have the UK Vodafone Touch Pro and have just changed the ROM to ROMeOS 1.40.1. The speed difference is substancial, and I would recommend it if you are willing to risk your warrenty.
Just make sure you follow all the posted advice regarding flashing your rom.

I've never had a signal problem, so I wouldnt think so. Its just an OS change, not the radio.
I have a vodafone rom and I thought the slowness was normal (I mean how would I know and different?) :S If there are alternatives, I too am interested.
I had the phone for about a month before I decided to look into the other ROMs, mainly because i'd got into the habit with my old v1606 (Hermes).
After looking at a few I eventually decided to try the ROMeOS one first, and so far I havent regreted it. It seems much faster, and the changes that have been made seem to improve the operation.
You still get the initial Vodafone boot screen then an alternate ROMeOS one, however even the boot seems much faster to me (I haven't actually timed it)
The only thing I will say is that if you like to modify TF3D then uninstall the 'HTC Manila Enhancements' using Remove Programs before you install any other mods or you may get a clash as I did.
I should add that I have only flashed ROMeOS in the last 24hrs so a full 'workout' has not been given to it yet.
Also make sure you read and follow the beginners guide in the ROM Development folder before you attempt the flash.
I have my Vodafone UK Touch Pro for 2 months. Yesterday i decided to change the ROM.
There is sooo much hype about bricking the phone but all the tools out there made it very easy for me, actually i only used 2 tools!
First download and install HardSPL
Then install the rom of your choice using the supplied .exe.
Simple, where abouts you based, could poss do it for you if you want?
I did manage to change my ROM - to the afour mentioned ROMeOS ROM - which is awesome. I did download Elite ROM but it was loaded with way too many programs for me!
It is a simple process, but I still get worried!!
I would like to change my Vodafone branded device to the Romeos rom if possible but want to know how I can make a dump of my current Vodafone ROM so If for any reason the device needs to be sent back I can shove that ROM back on?
Also, when changing roms, Is there a way to not lose your text messages?
Thanks
Regards,
Neil
Yeah - use a program called PIMBACKUP. I've backed all my stuff up about 3 times now with no problems.
You can save your original ROM, I never did as you can download the stock ROM's from here.
Read the Flashing For Newbies topic - it's invaluable. It ill have the links for the downloads you need
Touch Pro's Worst Rom
Just wanted to add my vote for hating this ROM. The red theme is horrible.
I thought I would wait a bit before flashing after shelling out £370 but this ROM was totally ruining my experience. Flashed within 12 hours of the phone arriving!!!
Can anybody who has successfully removed the Vodafone Rom and installed a new one shed some light on how they managed to do it. Ive flashed roms dozens of times on my Kaiser and the Hermes and had no problems at all but so far ive had no joy with the Touch Pro. No matter how i try and install hard SPL (either via the pc or using manual install) i never get past the black screen stage and 0% progress and then when the phone restarts nothings changed and i can no longer connect to Active Sync without hard resetting the phone and restarting the computer. I cannot use the Vodaphone Rom its so awful so im desperate for some advice.
MagicAlex - I flashed my TouchPro twice and had no problems either time. I basically followed the step by step guide which is stickied to the other ROM Developement forum.
Sorry I coudn't be more help, but that's how I did it, thanks to this wonderful forum
oh yeah ive flashed mine three times now. it turned out to be some mysterious issue with my pc. after two days of getting nowhere using Vista32 i plugged my TP into my girlsfriends laptop running Vista64 & it flashed first time. I have no idea what the issue is as i flashed my Vario2 & 3 dozens of times on my pc with no problems at all. very strange!
Hello,
I'm planning to get the xda serra - can I treat it like a htc branded touch pro and follow the rom and radio update instructions available here? or will i need to do different things?
Also are the sim unlock instructions same as a htc branded touch pro?
Could someone let me know.
Thanks.
I've just bought a serra but i'm scared to do anything with it.
could someone answer the question made by spark.
so no Serra users out there with cooked roms?
ive done it and its fine so far installed one rom 8 times with the updates, read the wiki and you will be fine, read about hard spl and read about it good-read twice if your not sure then the world is your oyster.just remember that if when you plug it it usb and it doesnt connect you can put it into bootloader mode and install a different rom if active sync doesnt work right.read about the differnet roms out there.
and keep checking the forum for updates etc.
best of luck and remember read about it before you do anything.
if your on o2 it should be unlocked anyway mine is, just use hard spl (hard spl for touch pro)for it dont use any other type eg... for htc diamond, touch etc as its only ment for the 1 model i think(iam i right guys).

Thank you for the answer (its given me the confidence to go buy one).
I'm going to get the Serra some time next week (now that i know the touch pro cooked roms will work). I'll probabily use the ROMeOS² version as it looks nicely cut down.
Yes, I'm using a cooked ROM on my Serra. Works a treat.
After reading all your replys i'm gouing to finally use a cooked rom on my serra.
I (like spark, sort of) have got a serra but never did anything with it. I never knew if i could just treat it like a touch pro (now i do).
Is there a original serra rom out there incase i need to put back back to its original state for warranty reasons? - i've browsed through the rom section but cant seem to see any.
The original XDA Serra ROM is available - see the link in the wiki.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_WM6.1_ROMs
I did try a different ROM on my original XDA Serra - basically the original HTC ROM, but I did have lots of problems with GPS. It did turn out to be a hardware problem and my device has been exchanged, but until I am confident every feature is fully working I'm not going to change the ROM again. Plus, other issues my original XDA Serra had (such as device.exe errors on keyboard slide out, random freezes, running slowly) dont' seem to be issues on the new one.
See my signature - the O2 ROM only stayed on my device briefly - it was OK but GPS lock was a nightmare (although I see O2 have issued a fix now). I will be cooking my own once I get a little time, but found the PROven roms to be good bases.
Hey guys/ Girls Today I am the nube..
As Im learning my way through all this I would take in and appreciate any help I can get.
I Have the verizon GSIII and I travel all over the world (Aspecially Israel). I have tried different Rom's untill I found one that worked with an International SIM card.
I have used it for over a month but it kept rebooting on me 5-8 times a day. It got worse later on.. touch-wiz errors and such. It became unbearable to the point where when trying to use GPS for the navigation feature (Waze or google map) it would keep saying locating GPS (Grr...) lol
Also a big deal breaker was the fact I could not talk on the phone and use the web at the same time. At that point I have had it..
I now have Liquid crystal (Liquid-JB-v2.0-RC5) So far I like it but I don't think it will take my International SIM card. (I also do not have anywhere in the settings to set a APN.)
The only issue I ran in to thus far is on phone call the speaker isn't good at all. (super soft)
Does anyone know of a stable International ROM that would work with a different SIM? I could use all the help I could get.
thank you in advance.
