How about going into your settings and clicking on "About phone"
maybe im not understanding it well heres what it says
Code:
Model number

Kernel version
2.6.27-04102009-daproy
[email protected])
Build number
PLAT-RC33
baseband version means radio version right? so which version do i have that people are referring to. is it 1.22? or 1.4 or 1.1?

Ok so i am brand new to rooting.
I installed gummycharged 2.0 then 2.1 then i put the ice cream sandwich add on version 1 and the updated version 2. Other than that I have no idea what I am doing.
I have tried looking up what kernel i have and what rom and all that stuff but i have no idea what it means. if someone could explain that would be great. Here is what my system information says.
hardware: i510.06 (what is this)
model number: gummy charged GBE 2.1 (is this the rom?)
Firmware Version: 2.3.4 (any name for this?)
Baseband Version: i510.06 v.ep4, SCH-I510.EP4 (what do these mean?, any name?)
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-EP1 (is this stock?)
Build number: sch-I510.ep1
is this stuff safe to post? and what do all of these mean? is this the place to check. because is see people using rom and theme and kernel and all sorts of vocabulary which i looked up but i am still very confused.
Thanks
So uh, what exactly are you asking us here?
Kernel: A piece of software that lies between the hardware of the phone (or any other electronic device, but were taking phones for now) and the ROM. The ROM uses this to communicate with the hardware and make it do it's bidding.
ROM: Main OS of your phone. Everything you see on your phone is part of the ROM, even apps use commands from within the ROM.
Theme: Literally what it says-a theme replaces some parts of a ROM to make it look different. Must be designed for a specific ROM.

This stuff is safe to post since it contains no personally identifiable information.
Hardware version: denotes the hardware revision of your device. I have not seen anything other than i510-06, so it is safe to say there is currently only one hardware version, at least in public.
Model number: usually sch-i510-this is the actual device number used by Samsung to identify the Droid Charge. Same across all charges, however this is editable, and in your case has been modified by GummyCharged.
firmware version: 2.3.x is Gingerbread. The last digit denotes the revision of Google's Gingerbread SDK. 2.3.6 is our most current version.
baseband version: describes your baseband/modem (controls data) version. EP4 is the most current.
Kernel version: exactly what it says. Usually will not be able to distinguish between stock & repacked/custom kernels unless changes are made to build.prop. Most current is 2.6.35.7-EP4
Build number: denotes the "build", or version, of the ROM & baseband. Most current is EP4, has been EP1 and EE4(Froyo). There's one more build that I never remember because no one cares about it.
Oh god, my thumbs hurt bad now.

Moving to Q&A
Total noob here.I have a Galaxy Nexus S GSM phone running ICS.I do not know the exact model I have I suspect I am having the M200 variant. The guy who sold it to me in all probability rooted it to install ICS.I want to install Jelly Bean on it.My questions are(Please forgive the wall of text, I wanted to be as elaborate as possible)
1) How can I know if my phone has been rooted ? Can you install ICS without rooting and without an OTA update?I dont know what the previous owner did.
I found out that I have an unlocked bootloader. But When I try to install and run Voodoo Sound which requires a rooted device. It says
"Sorry, this device doesn't run a kernel supporting extended sound controls"
can I take it to mean the device is not rooted?
2) Can I find out definitively if my phone is M200 Nexus S?
Baseband M200KRKC1
Kernel Version 3.0.8-g5556123
[email protected] #1 Thu Feb 2 16:56:02 PST 2012
BUILD NO : IMM76D
FASTBOOTMODE
Product Name : Herring
HW Version :Rev 11
BASELOADER : I9020XXKL1
Baseband M200KRKC1
CARRIER INFO KTT
Lock State - Unlocked
I pulled out the battery and it just says i9020 on the back of it as well as the phone box.The box also says made in Korea and it was imported into Romania. (I live in India and i bought the phone someone imported into India )
MY IMEI starts with 3569 if that helps
3) I want to install Jelly Bean and no OTA update here.If I do not know conclusively if I am having M200 will it brick if I install 9020T Roms, I remember reading somewhere they are very similar and some early unofficial Jelly Bean builds for 9020T worked on M200.I do want to install Jelly Bean that is why I am looking at the Nexus Oneclick Tookit.Does it differentiate between M200 and I9020T builds?
Edit: I checked and I need to know model SOJU or SOJUK
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance
I looked at these threads but I cannot conclusively say this is an M200 version

I am 99.99% sure I have M200 and I think so do you
I did a lot of digging and I found these links.Apparently I cant post the links directly. The first two are secured and the last one is just regular.Just add in front
android.googlesource.com/platform/docs/source.android.com/+/c8c8ef13eb4708287fd74c12d04479da2bb937bf%5E1..c8c8ef13eb4708287fd74c12d04479da2bb937bf/

randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-s/m200/
Now check this with someone before you do this but I think you can just go to settings>About phone>System Updates>check now
Ideally this should update to ICS 4.0.4
I think Over The Air(OTA) updates should be safe for your data and is ideal for people like me who are new to Android.Just get this confirmed with someone who knows about it and you should be able to upgrade.
I think you should be able to upgrade to ICS.My problem is different. There is no JB out for M200.
I checked with an app called android system info. It says my model is nexus S and priduct is Soju. On the factory image website of google, i saw a factory image JB for nexus S. Not sure what to do now. Also, i tried the OTA update, it gets stuck at the White triangle with green droid screen. I desperately want to shift to JB or ICS.
WHAT TO DO???

U sure it says Soju and not Sojuk?Mine says Sojuk. If only I had known it was so simple to find out my model
Just go to settings-> about phone and look at the baseband. The model is the one before the XX. e.g I9020, I9023, m200 etc
By the way there is no Galaxy Nexus S, it's just Nexus S or Galaxy Nexus, no combinations of the two.
If the phone is rooted you should see superuser in the app drawer.
Just use the search function to find out how to install jellybean on the m200, it's been answered
U guys are answering your own questions lol

You have a dev phone so I don't see why you don't want to root your phone. Just look into the advantages you get from rooting once (again) and then decide for yourself!

good day guys! please help me with my problem.
i have recently bought a used nexus s. i have acquired this phone because i know that it uses the wolfson audio chip and i want to make it a music player by using the voodoo sound app (this app needs root access). my problem is i don't know what version it is hence i can't root it for fear of flashing the wrong kernel and bricking the phone. i'm in the philippines so if the phone was bought here, it must be an i9020 international version. besides, there are no korean apps or characters present. i took a picture of the sticker under the battery and saw texts in korean and then it says SHW-M200K at the end of the first line. i know that this is the code for the korean version. so is it right for me to assume that i have the korean version? but then again in the fourth line of the sticker i saw text that says FCC ID: A3LGTi9020. this is the code for the international version so i'm confused. when i checked the settings, about phone, it showed android version as 4.1.2 and baseband as XXKI1. lately i saw a korean version of the nexus s and the baseband starts with M200..... however, my phone's baseband is XXKI1. i'm really confused please help me. i'm planning to root this using this toolkit but i don't know what's the version of my phone.
here's the pic of the sticker under the battery:

Yes You have a korean version of nexus s as I have..
You can use one click root toolkit by M.sabra.. I'd done that on mine and working perfectly..:good:
but mine one in baseband version shows m200
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544940:)
Well, at least I am sure that its a GT-i9020T
thank you for the reply brother hito. yes that's what i'm confused of because my baseband says XXKI1 and no M200 prefix.
brother DJBhardwaj, what do you mean by GT-i9020T? you mean to say this is the international version?
thanks.

As somewhere i read on the internet that you can change your baseband version by changing radio..
I'd take some of pictures of back but didn't get clear anyone of them, said i've no other camera so you can see mine one board..
You can check your IMEI number online and they will tell you what your model number actually is..
----> http://imei-number.com/imei-number-lookup/
Or anyother site you may check...
thank you very much for your help brother hito. as indicated in the IMEI lookup, my device is a korean nexus s with model number SHW-M200K.
The issue I'm having is that as soon as a call comes in the data connectivity drops. I noticed it on the Maximus ROM and thought it was a ROM issue and thus switched to the September version of the Viper ROM. Alas, I'm still having the issue. Is anyone familiar with this?
I was just wondering if it's a ROM issue, location issue or something entirely different. I read that the original TMobile ROM allowed for surfing during a call but I had the phone less than a day before I got rid of that ROM. Therefore, I don't recall whether or not I was able to surf the web during a call.

Baseband is your radio
If you have HBoot lower than 1.09 then u can update your radio to latest US T-mobile at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907016 then replace build.prop. All these are in the link.
