Be aware of Tmobile false charges - G1 Android Development

Hi,
The reason I post here because I'm using rooted G1, I'm hoping somebody can help me to trace into this kind of issue...
The story is:
I got my bill today and the my account was charged with 10 ringtone downloads. And I can swear that I didn't download these....
I called t-mobile and speaked with the managers for 45 miniutes. And They are saying that the downloads are valid charges. Because it was charged through my SIM card. So I can not deny the downloads. The only thing that I can say is I never download ring tones. And I never lose control of my phone(no one else using my phone or sim card to make download.) But I can not prove it. I asked Tmo to block the T-Zone service, they said can not do it from their system....
I have a sense that some program(s) on my phone was using my phone (or using my account) to make these download.
If there's a way to trace into the downloads or the activities of the programs?
I dont want this kind of thing happened to anyone else.

There are some nasty people out there..but i dont see why someone who could do that wouldnt just get their own ringtones for free. Got a brother, sister, friend...I know my friends used to use my phone to send GIFTS to themselves to be asses...but I didnt care...

The only way that these ringtones could have been purchased was if someone took your sim card out of your G1 and put it in another phone and downloaded them. The G1 cannot even access t-zones to make these downloads.

That isn't exactly true. You can spoof a lot of things, including what phone you are using and your browser.

IMEIs on your account...
Only thing I can suggest is to ask them to check what IMEIs have registered on your sim card since the billing cycle in question.
If only your G1 has registered to your sim you'd have a legitimate beef if your G1 cannot even download those ringtones in the first place...

you can access t-zones and purchase ringtones. the is an app called selfhelp that has access to t-zones.

Go into a tmobile corporate location and have them check to see what imeis have been used. Check also what days those charges were done and time. Only thing I can think of is someone took your sim and used it to download ringtones. So just go into the store and see what they say bro. Good luck.

did you sigh up to any site and give them your phone number. cuse i had the same problem with another phone all i did called tmobile and asked them to change my phone number and the problem got fixed. watch out to what site you givr your number to, cuse they send massage and things and you get charged for it.

Thanks for your replies.
I really appreciated
the sim card is in the phone all the time...
The tmo asked the same question too.
Also I didn't register with any websites using my phone number. I know they will cost a lot of money...
I was in another city with my wife at the time of download.
I tried to obtain the IP address the ringtone being transferred to from tmobile, but they refused to provide the information....
If the receiveing IP was different from the IP on my phone at that time. Somebody was using my account to download....

Why would they refuse you the ip adress, since i presume they could verify that you are in fact the owner of the said account, and furthermore the purchase is identified to have happend through your sim card.. That just dosnt make any sense!
I dont know what kind of data laws you have over there of course, but in Denmark, we have a personal data law, which specificly protects the users, and i would have been able to demand that ip handed out to me, once i proved my identity over the phone, or by mail..
Its a matter of security in order to verify if you were in fact the buyer of said ringtones.

so can a g1, out of the box, access tzones?

In the browser under bookmarks there is a T-mobile Downloads bookmark this is for the G1 ringtone downloads through tmo directly. This is the only way you can download ringtones from tmo directly to the phone!

Skyfire for non US, solution

Hi all, not sure if this has been posted before a search came back with nothing so I thought I 'd chuck a post up.
Im sure that everyone outside the US is currently in the same boat, would love to play with skyfire, but is frustraited with the lack of non-US availability.
Well Im based in the UK and I just signed up with any US number, I basically got one from google.
I still recieved the email from skyfire with the 'download to pc' option, The link on that email asked me to generate a password, which i did.
I installed the cab and expected there to be an IP block or something similar for the region but surprisingly the ID email and password went through just fine.
the happy ending being that im now runing skyfire beta via the UK, bonza.
Hope this pleases a few people.

Thanks for the heads-up - it worked with me too. Sure there isn't any IP block.
BTW, there're a lot of usable phone numbers at http://inter800.com/cgi-bin/kwd800
The only disadvantage: They seem to tunnel all traffic through their proxy - I had e.g. a website telling me that I'm trying to access it from the US which it does not allow.
kr A.
Doesnt't work wor me. I wrote the random number, downloaded and installd it on my Hermes. It asked for email and pass, after I had done it stopped on "Locating" screen... so i did a soft reset, reinstalled and... now it just shows the start screen and closes. I'm not quite sure if it's a fault of me living in Europe or something else.

How to update ADP1 to 1.1h and see paid apps and have your previous user data

Can I do this to view paid market in non-US country? I have an ADP and really need paid apps, I want to spend my money and Google doesn't want =))

Sorry, I really dont know if it will work outside of US. The only way is to try and let us know. As I am traveling to Europe on a regular basis I will try and report my finding at that time.

Okie, I will test now. But I think it will didn't work because my friend's using Tmobile G1 RC33 JF1.43. 2 days ago, he tried putting an US sim card to his phone and he still not be able to access to paid market. I think google check our IP.
Now, all people try putting your sim card out and put the Tmobile sim card include phone box (if yyou buy it from US) and check the market, If you can access the paid market, It's mean that Google check sim region.
Then if you want to see the "paid" apps into Market, you really need
to have a SIM card plugged into ADP. Without it I could not see any
paid apps (very weird isn't it? Probably a nice bug in Market). I
recommend to plug your SIM card then to go to Market sections
"Applications" and "Games" and then you can get rid of your SIM card
and you will be able to see the "paid" apps.

Read it !!!!!!!!!!! It means that Google ceck Sim card region.
so basically what you are doing is just updating to 1.1 holiday, right?
Im in spain using JF 1.43 ADP1 1.1h and I cant see any paid app, so probably google is checking for sim country code...
Hello [Ris], I am from Spain too and I am afraid we will have to wait until Movistar releases their G1, I hope this month.
BUt, will Google do a cross check of the model number + sim country code and leave us without paid apps?
I think it is a nonsense that we can't buy apps from other countries.

I don't think so. I think they check sim and IP only. Because at older FW (rc30) I can't find some software that release only for US user, but when I plug in my tmobile sim card, I can find and download them. Now I tried doing that, but it doesn't work. I think I will fake IP and test again.
I think faking IP address in wireless router will work. We only need fake to US IP and use a US sim to access Android paid Market.
Please help us to fake IP in a router, I'm look for how to do.

Not exactly. What I have noticed is that whenever you access Market with a SIM card plugged you can see paid apps and then you dont need it anymore if you are on the same Wifi network.
I could unplugged my SIM card, reboot and thru Wifi still see the paid apps. Then connecting to a new Wifi network, I could not see the paid apps anymore.
Hope that helps,
Fabrice
adp 1.1 holiday and paid apps
i can see paid apps. im using jf holiday adp, udgraded baseband, in US.
Paid apps yea, but what about protected apps. I think rooted phones cannot donwload protected apps. Protection is an option you check off when releasing your app in the market.
ADP can't reach to paid market. I look for the way to fake IP from the router. Can you help me?
I have a german G1 with ADP1.1/JFv1.43h and I do see paid apps if I insert an old, used up prepaid US SIM card from cingular. Even with a german IP address.
The market application ask several time for my google account password after I swap the cards, but it does work. Unclear if i can buy something, I'll try that (have to first set up a google checkout account).
But: Soem other apps have completely disappeared after I flashed to the ADP1 firmware. Are those the so called 'protected' ones? Can somebody explain what this protection is about?
Thanks, I'll post any app buying success.
Success! Just bought the app "Graph" for 2.99$.
You need a google checkout account (and a visa/mastercard/whatever credit card for that) plus a (any) US SIM card. Works with JFv1.43h ADP1.
The SIM card can be old and rusty, the one I'm using is so old that it does not allow me to access the GSM/3G network here in germany.
Interesting is that the terms of service I had to agree on were displayed in german. This could be because I have a "german google account".
So, try it if you have such a SIM card, otherwise: It won't take long until the paid market doors open here in europe, maybe a few weeks.

Thạnk you very much. I'm flash back to RC33 JF4.3 and will post my result now
The firmware I'm using is JFv1.43h, the modified ADP1 holiday build. So you wont have any difference with RC33 I guess.
It depends on the SIM card.

Any remote chance of this working on 3 Australia?
...
This is just an FYI of what I've come across. I have the HTC Magic configured on the ATT US hsdpa network. I ran a port scan and found out AT&T is still not complying with what i thought was settled. AT&T blocks port 5060 which is the port that the SIP protocol functions. So, when you try to use skype, just like on the iphone, it will only work over wifi only and not over the network...but not because of the skype program for android, but because of att blocking the port....
if anyone has any information or comments please reply....I'd like to know more as well
2 free sims as well.
I saw a promotion last week for 2 free 3 sims (Say that when you are drunk) as well so I'm just waiting for the outcome of this. No top-up charge This means Really cheap Voip to International numbers over Wifi for me. I'll let you know how it goes.

in the local store they are giving away free sims, just walk in and pick one up, no questions asked.
Thank you very much for providing the apk file.
I have difficulty to download it neither from Market nor Three.co.uk.
It works well on my newly purchased HTC Tattoo with 3 PAYG.

3 Ireland
How can I locate the phone number in Ireland?
is there a version of this for non-3 networks? i would really appreciate a decent skype client for android (please don't point me to fring, it's still VERY, VERY beta and needs a lot more features)
Thanks for this awesome find,
I just spent ages creating an apk which automatically stuck in the settings for the 3 network, then upon searching the forum again i found your little gem of a post =/. think i should have searched harder!!
Creating an APK with different country settings isnt that difficult, you need to find the auto-signer tool, and modify the startup properties in /res/raw. although upon further investigation this ver of iskoot doesnt have those files so the settings must be stored elsewhere. so you would definately need the plain (non three) version of the iskoot apk.
autosigner and instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503007
ive linked back to your 1st post (hope you dont mind) to point people in this direction.
I'm on 3 Ireland, using an unlocked htc hero. If I install this, will I get skype working with my 3 ireland sim???
nope, it doesn't work.
Thanks for this, I don't suppose anyone has their msn app if they do one for the hero that gives you free msn on 3uk

AmazonMP3 & Blockbuster APPS!

Here are the cabs for these apps! Credit to michealmyers for the uploads

Thanks for sharing...
Any infos about the apps? Is Amazon MP3 multilanguage-version or does it only work in UK/USA?
Thank you !
amazon works anywere but i think blockbuster is usa only
yep, the blockbuster one doesn't seem to do a huge amount on mine either - stock / unbranded HD2 UK.
Both runs on mine O2 HD2 but I think they are only for US customers.
If you find a way to use amazon one in UK, can you let me know how
thanks
I am using it on AT&T 3G in US...
Blockbuster - Really is kinda buggy...If I click "Get it", it doesn't actually do anything...Pushing the Settings button doesn't do anything, and I am guessing thats where you login? So I couldn't get to my Queue...
Amazon MP3 - Works just like it should I guess...
Problems on TMO US HD2
I can search and do everything except buy. When I try to by, I get Purchase Started: Success but User Authenticated: Fail. Same problem with free titles. I have verified my e-mail address and password and verified that I can buy online from PC.

if the blockbuster app is not responding to you clicking Get it... it is the old versions...
when the phone was available for training.. the app was on the phone.. but acted the same way.. it was only the day before official launch (march 24th) that the cab then updated to version... 2.33?? i believe (the ones not working was 2.15 and 2.16)... only then did the get it option work.
not being in the US... idk if you will automatically receive updates of newer versions once installed...

All android gurus - do u have a solution for this?

hey .. before i get bombarded with replies like this isnt the right forum or we are not supposed to help with stolen mobile cases ... please just hear me out
my mobile got stolen 1 month back .. i had where's my droid installed but that didnt help. there wasnt any other mobile tracking app installed so after taking all necessary measures like changing passwords and blocking IMEI and cell-number i gave up on ever finding it.
but today i just fancied logging into play.google.com and they still have my stolen galaxi mini 5570 listed under the android devices associated with my email. before getting stolen google market would recognize that "mobilink" was my service provider but today i found that another service provider "telenor" was associated with my galaxy mini.
so now am thinking that the theif has obviously put in some other sim in my cell, but is still using google market place with my email address.
what i want to ask all of you is that is there ANY GOD DAMN POSSIBLE WAY that i can trace the mobile number of the person using my cell? i dont want the GPS tracking as in pakistan GPS will only tell me an approximate location.
please help me!

Don't know about tracing the phone number (maybe the police can help with that?) - but Plan B might be able to help you locate it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb&hl=en
And, yea, this should probably be posted in General or Q&A...
