Gmail crashing when viewing word documents - G1 Android Development

In the gmail application whenever i try and preview a word file i get the message:
"The application Gmail (process com.google.android.gm) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
I have rooted my device and have RC33.
is viewing word documents supported at all?

supposedly if you have the QuickOffice app
not natively though...I myself was unsuccessful using that app but thats the only option as far as I know.

Actually, about this, I can't see pdfs using the preview function.

Mine froze up on every attachment. I uninstalled download crutch and it works fine now.

gmail attachement

is there anyway you can save attachments in gmail to the SD card through the app. this is driving me mad.
Pretty sure you have to Preview it, then save it.
when i try open a zip file using preview it just opens up my file manager then crashes..
Theres a free app called Blackmoon attach save lite that will do the trick..
My problem mostly is with the mail app. It never downloads the attachments. I always get "attachment is corrupt." But then I fwd it to gmail and open it right up.

K-9 mail and quickoffice

Hi,
I downloaded the Captivate free version of quickoffice and used with the default email program without problem. Now that I switch to K-9 mail I cannot open my attached documents. When I click on the opne button it says "cannot find a viewer". I have to save de document and open it in quickoffice.
Any idea how to fix that?
Thanks
I can't offer a solution, but it works fine for me, and I didn't do anything special.

What version of quickoffice do you use? I use de Quickoffice for captivate.
And did you install K-9 after or before Quickoffice?
I try to uninstall Quickoffice and reinstall but the problem is the same. In fact on one email I can open a docx and on another email (same account) it doesn't open saying "cannot find a viewer"
I installed the free Captivate Quickoffice, then installed K9 after that.
I can't open docx though, only doc. K9 thinks it's a zip file.

in fact a docx is a zip file if you rename a .docx .zip you can open it and you will find the text in clear and a xml file

Did anyone try attaching a video?

I can't attach a video to my email using my gmail. After I type an email I click "attach" and it takes me to the Gallery but the videos don't show up. What's going on?
I've also tried attaching a video right after taking it but it says "file too large".
I can attach the same video using yahoo email.
Can anyone explain this to me? Thanks.
Wow, that is a weird one. Not sure if it's a gallery or a gmail bug, though. I'll confirm that videos in the camera folder in the gallery don't show when trying to attach from the gmail app, but videos I have in a synced Picasa album do.
I've just tested it a couple of different ways and both worked. Have you tried either of these?
1) Open the Gallery app, then tap the video you want to send, then select the Share button, then pick gmail. Gmail will open to a new email with the video attached.
2) Use a file explorer app (like Root Explorer) and do the same basic thing as in #1 - browse to, select and share to gmail.
I used test files up to 20mb in size. If you've tried one of these and it's telling you the file is too large, how large is the file? Have you validated that gmail allows attachments of that size?

According to Google Help for gmail, the maximum file attachment size you can send through gmail is 25mb. That's probably your issue.

You're right. So, is yahoo mail - file attachment limit is 25 MB.
I checked the size of the video I've been trying to attach - it is 6.17 MB. And I still can't attach this video when I select it from the gallery.
If I write an email first, and then select "attach" the video does not even show. Pictures do.
Anyone???

I did the first thing and I keep getting message " file too large" although it is only 6.17 MB.
How do you do the second thing - I would need step by step directions. But does it solve my problem?
Thanks!

How do you exactly do that? Thanks.

[Q] Gmail - Downloading Attachments

Hey all,
I've encountered this problem with downloading attachments on my Transformer. My brother sent me some ebooks to read via kindle and when I go into my gmail, open up the email, and attempt to download the ebooks (.mobi format), it seems that there is no option to download. I also have set the option to auto download recent attachments through wifi, and still no go.
It just gives me the "Sorry, no application found to view this attachment." when I press Info. Now, I know I could just download them through my computer and connect my TF to get the ebooks, but I figured there must be some sort of solution to this annoyance.
Any ideas, guys?
Sorry if this should be in General, but I figured it should be here because it concerns the gmail app.
I'm having an altogether different problem with GMail attachments. For me they don't actually download. The download manager starts, but nothing happens. It seems to not have any download size information and pauses the download with no option to restart. I am getting the same problem in the Browser.
This problem existed before the 3.1 update and has persisted since. I have tried Clearing the app data. There's no way to uninstall and re-install either app. I am able to download in other apps (dropbox, etc..)I want to avoid a Factory Reset if possible.

I'm having that same exact issue with certain files attached in an email. Seems to be with certain files/formats, but why is it view instead of download... Think this happened when I tried uploading a rom to myself or a friend.

Question No app found - no service available

I'm posting this because I've googled this issue to death and I'm not getting anywhere. Nothing I've seen on there has worked. Maybe one of you guys might point me in the right direction.
The problem occurs happens when trying to export my contacts to a .vcf file using the My Contacts app and my calendar to an .ics file with Simple Calendar Pro.
Contact app says: No app was found to handle this action.
Calendar app says: System service for selecting files and folders in unavailable
While we're talking 2 separate apps and 2 separate types of files, I can't help but think these 2 issues are somehow married to each other.
Does anyone have a clue on how to fix this other than doing a full factory reset?
Is Calendar Storage on your phone?
Contacts storage app is on your phone?
This happens when there no calendar storage app on phone, or its just an app malfunction.
Try stock calendar.

I did that and it's not working either. The contacts app won't export .vcf files either. I also tried to back up my Nova launcher configuration and got a similar message.
Something's wrong somewhere. Oh well....

I'm fairly certain this is a "My Contacts" app issue than a Pixel 7/Android 13 issue; I'm guessing it's because it's not the stock Contacts app or something.

In Android something (a while back, maybe 10 or 9), apps would need special permission to access anything, even on the internal sd directory. This most likely has to do something with that. Most of the time the app states it needs permissions and you have to direct it to the root directory/device and "allow access". I'm trying to remember this from the top of my head, so it is vague, but it's something like this.

I'm curious what shows up when you select "Share" from the stock Contacts app....What do you mean "won't export"? Like through messaging, email, Telegram, Whatsapp, bluetooth, Nearby Share, etc.? All of them?

I just looked all over the stock Contacts app on the Pixel 7 Pro. There are a ton of items to either configure or do other stuff, but nowhere is there anything for sharing. I don't believe the problem is there. I just shared a picture with the Gallery app and it worked.
By "not export" I mean that the Contacts app won't export the contacts to a .vcf file which can be stored as a backup and reimported later. When I try it I get the error message I mentioned. I'm having the same issue with the Calendar app. It will not export to an .ics file. Importing does work, the problem is exporting.
I've checked all permissions for both these app. Everything is allowed and the problem persists. :-(

You need a file explorer to export with do you have the Google Files program frozen/deleted or an alternative installed? I use MiXplorer and the app opens when I export contacts to choose a location to export.

Ok, now we're getting somewhere
I have Files by Google installed and working, as well as Total Commander and X-Plore. All permissions active except for notifications. Shouldn't at least one of these do the trick? Or is there another issue going on somewhere?
Is there something special about MiExplorer that these other proggies lack?

Sorry I should've been more clear i meant an app when viewing all apps in device settings ➡ Show System apps it will be called "Files" or MAYBE I think "Documents UI" the package name is com.google.android.documentsui if you have this installed & enabled I unfortunately don't have any suggestions. I've only had this same problem when accidentally removing this app when debloating my phones. I did freeze it, uninstall MiXplorer and installed both the apps you mentioned and got the same error about exporting. I don't know why it works for me with just MiXplorer and not those other apps though.

When you hold down on a contact, you don't see the "share" option? The 3 dots aligned like a sidewards triangle?

If I hold down on any contact and tap the "share" button, that's the only way it tries to share it -- as a .vcf file; and it offers like 10 options to send/share that .vcf file...

As long as it is given permission to "contacts" and probably "modify system settings" is set to Allowed...that should be enough...
I was able to make a copy of the vcf file through the phone app I checked the folder on Google files so you deffo have a problem have you tried clearing the cache of the apps un installed the apps updates and reinstalled the updates if those don't work I think a back up and factory reset would fix it
It may not be in the contacts app that your solution lies. If I'm understanding correctly. It may be the app that you're trying to import the contacts too. I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly, you're trying to import these things to the simple contacts app? You shouldn't have to do anything with the Google contacts app itself. It's likely to be something you would do on your Google account and not actually in an app but in a browser
Sorry, no idea why that posted twice.

Kudos to you, dude! I googled the package name you mentioned and someplace there was a download link for something called "documentsui-t-frc-doc-3304430". I brought it down and gave it a shot. IT WORKED!! Both the contacts and the calendar file export services work flawlessly. The full name of the package is "com.google.android.documentsui.theme.pixel". It shows up as a system app on the App Manager program. There is no icon anywhere. But hey, it does the job. Thanks for your help.
Now tell me why I'm having trouble updating Windows 11 and installing apps from the Windows Store. Yeah, I know, it's not what we discuss on this forum. But you know quite a bit. Maybe you could point me in the right direction. Once again, googling isn't getting me anywhere.

Hopefully the moderators won't be mad at me for posting this on a Google Pixel Pro forum. I'll try to keep it brief. Hopefully someone can point me elsewhere.
Whenever I try to update something or download from the Windows Store, it gives me a 0x80070001 error. I've been able to download and install updates and store apps manually. The problem is that sometimes this method works and sometimes it doesn't.
I installed something call Windows 10 Privacy. I've been using it since before upgrading to Windows 11. I emailed the developer and he suggested re-enabling all tabs that block telemetry. It didn't work.
I'm convinced that just like the problem I had with the phone, this has to be due to some detail somewhere. But where? Googling hasn't helped. There are billions of suggestions on there to fix the 0x80070001, and none work.
Any ideas..
