SMS Through Email App? - General Topics

I remember seeing an app on here awhile ago that would allow you to send SMS messages to one of your contacts via email by just specifying their carrier. This would help me since I'm somewhat worried about going over my allowed number of SMS messages but have unlimited data.
Does anyone have a link to this app? I can't find it anymore.
Thanks!

Intercepting Text Messages

I get alot of text messages from some people and my partner would like to be able to intercept those messages so he can have a copy of them on his Wizard. How would he go about doing that?
You want all you SMS messages forwarded to another phone?
think he want to set rules for which ones are forwarded
Your "partner" can't intercept them.. But you can do one of two things..
Either create a program intercepting all incoming SMS'es, always forwarding them to him. You could append the sender phonenumber in the body of the sms or something so he'll know who it is from..
The other thing you could do .. is write a client/server app, so when you get an sms, it's intercepted and posted to a homepage/server you have.. Your partner could have a clientversion which regurarly synchronizes the data from the server and adds them to the cemail.vol file.. making it seem that he ha got the sms aswell..
Another thing again .. you could just make another app which sends the incoming sms as an email to your partner.. Many ways to do this.. but he can not intercept them.. you have to forward them either as an SMS, Email or pure data via a server solution you code/develop...

he can also make a program which only intercept sms's from a list of phone numbers or where surden texts or char's are present
but the program would need to run all the time and periodicly check for new sms's
i would like a program to reject sms messages or mms messages by phone number like i was able to do with my old phone.

I think I'll just go with the first suggestion. Thanks!
MOD EDIT:
this is obviously illegal.
lets move this discussion to the Q&A section

Hey all. Nearly 2 years have gone by since the last post in this thread and I know technology changes over time. I've done some reading about intercepting SMS/text messages but I was wondering if there are now any other ways to do this.
I want to be able to intercept text messages sent and received from one particular CDMA mobile phone number, or to have them forwarded to me without the person's knowledge. I don't have physical access to this person's phone, but if it helps I do have their ESN/MEID for their device.
I'm not so worried about intercepting phone calls or anything. I can get close enough to the user's phone though to be on the same cell tower as them if needed in order to intercept or have the SMS messages forwarded to me.
Are their any options for making this possible without direct access to this particular device? I understand the idea behind copying the identity of the target phone using a SIM card, but again, I don't have physical access to the phone in order to do that. Thanks!

Guys,
Isn't this illegal? You're literally asking to be the NSA or the government, snooping information without the person's information or consent?
Spying on a significant other?
Cheers.
good point. didn't read the last post.

free sms texting via data?

I just signed up for a data plan and am trying to figure out a way to send text messages via data without signing up for a $20 texting plan.
Here is the following options I have come up with
-Use web2mail and send email texts to people. Although this is quite annoying because people say they recieve a new text every time i respond (doesnt come up as one conversation)
-Sign into AOL instan messanger and text people through that. But this kills my batterylife.
-There is an app called mjoy. www.mjoy.com I havent tried it yet, but am considering it.
are there any other options? any java apps or anything that can be used to send text messages?
thanks
ps I have an ATT Fuze.
RE: free sms texing via data?
please just get texting plan.
AIM uses both texts/data.
and is it really worth it to go thru hassle to text friends/family to save 10 to 20 bucks?
and hassling friends/family to get random messages from websites and whatnot?

About 10 seconds on google man. I'm not going to call you a jerk, but I'm seriously considering it.
People that post questions without doing any research are really a drag.
Yeh - I had the same question.
As it stands, I'm using my email to send texts... but cumbersome at time. Especially when I don't know the persons provider. Anyhow, I saw that the Iphone/Itouch had an app that used Google's SMS feature called Infinite SMS... it got pulled back. Similarly, there is another Iphone/Itouch Textfree and Textfree Lite that sends texts via data, but not using Google's SMS.
I'm not a developer, but I guess if it could be done on the Iphone, then is it possible that it can be done on WM?

SMS Gateway for use in Android app?

So, Ive made an Android App called SMS Forward. It enables forwarding of SMS to either another phone number or an email. What would be cool is if I could somehow make it so that you could reply to text messages through email. For this to work I reckon I need to use some kind of SMS Gateway. I know there are solutions out there you have to pay for, which is fine.. Does anyone have any suggestions?
you have to check 2-WaySMS for sms sending/receiving
My app PhoneLeash (tinyurl.com/phoneleashfree) does SMS forwarding to email and SMS. Its possible to reply to incoming SMS from your email account, provided the Reply-To address is your phone's email-to-SMS address. The phone then sends out your reply, so no gateway needed, and it looks more natural to the recepient.
These email-SMS addresses are completely non-standard unfortunately so I had to create a database by hand, at least for US and Canadian carriers. And I can only hope they don't change too soon.
There are also some online services that help you determine who the carrier is for a phone number. You could use those and come up with a valid Reply-To based on the number of the incoming SMS (most of the time hopefully!)
Hope this helps, I know its been a while!
You're replying to an almost 6 year old thread, there have been many options introduced since this thread was created.

It is quite easy to find out the options in order to send bulk SMS to the audience. The real estate text marketing app that I am using is absolutely great. We are super impressed with the results. The interface is easy to understand. I am totally impressed with it. Would surely be suggesting this to others as well.

[Q] Q bulk sms to GV group via google voice

hello
i want to send out 1 sms. thats a 1 time sms to a gv group. the group currently holds 74 ppl and when i do send it out. i want my gv number to show up. nobody knows my sim's number.
i have tried at least 4 different apps. and each one does only 1 of my conditions.
either send to my gv group via my sim's number or send to multiple recipients via my gv.
i have searched android market and several non-google markets too.
so i am asking for help in my search for the app. that will do this.
thank you
I would give an ear for such an app...
I was looking for similar features...i found group sms pro in the market (cant post links yet). I really like it.
that one sends to google voice groups yes. but it sends as the sim's number not your gv number

I have verifed that it does use your gv number to send the sms. U just have to enable it in the settings. In the app, go to menu>more>settings>google voice sms settings. Enable google voice and provide your authorization info.
Yes, Group SMS Pro works with GV. At least it did for me until the day I posted in this thread initially. It force closes on me now.
In case anyone checks: updated app send to work fine...

Not sure if you're willing but if you port your number to Google Voice all your text messages are in the cloud and will sync for every device you install GV on.

dont i have to cancel my contract for that
I use SMS Backup+ and it does backup text messages done through hangouts but I cannot restore texts to hangouts from these backups.
I have read that SMS Backup and Restore does work on KitKat and our N5s but there may be a hoop or two you have to jump through.
I need to find a good auto backup and ability to restore my texts, I miss that from my previous Android phones.

Downloaded SMS Backup and restore. Downloaded the back up from my google drive . Restored the messages and a message appeared that i will have to set the default app to SMS Backup and Restore . Did that and then made Hangout the default app. all the restored messages appeared in hangout.
After this you can install any of the SMS apps from the play store like Go SMS Pro , Textra etc etc . Once this is done, Go to the settings of Hangout and uncheck the option of Hangout as the SMS app . All your text messages will now appear in the new SMS app you have downloaded from the play store.

Oh, sorry, I totally forgot that some people are still on contracts. But once your contract is up in the future that would be a viable solution.
Assuming you're on Sprint with that contract you can also integrate your Sprint number with Google Voice which will have the exact reversible effect as permanently porting it.
Besides some backup and restore solutions that some other guys left above there really isn't anything that will sync your text messages.
