How to review Wireless Key stored on a PPC - General Questions and Answers

Is there any one can help me?
I have a wireless connection stored on my ppc. This connection requires a security key. I don't know that key because my friend entered it for me. Now i want to know "what the key is".

asterix
there's a program called asteriks logger ( http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/astlog.html ) install it, open it and it will reveal the password behind the asteriks on your computer. Good luck with

I've tried it, but unsuccessfully. Can you show me?

asteriks
The asteriks logger works only on PC's . Sorry didn't noticed that your hidden key was on PPC............. Then I think it not possible with this program!! Sorry mate.

It lives in the registry at :
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WZCSVC\Parameters\Interfaces\######
###### will depend on the particular WiFi chipset driver in your phone.
Under this key are several keys of the form Static#nnnn where n goes from 0000 to 9999 and ActiveSetting which is acopy of the last active connection. The name of the SSID is visible in the key if you try to modify it. The WEP/WPA key is further in there somewhere, but here is the catch. It has been encrypted, and is not recognisable as such.
Can anybody else can cast any further light?

[Security Advisory] Circumvent Device Lock in Blackberry Connect for Windows Mobile

Circumvent Device Lock in Blackberry Connect for Windows Mobile
---------------------------------------------------------------
Description:
------------
BBC features a security module that, if configured and activated, locks the device after a specific amount of time.
In a corporate environment this is usually set up by a security policy which is pushed to the device via Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES).
If the device is locked the user has to enter a password to unlock the device again.
There are two ways a user can compromise the security implied with the BBC security service.
1) Using a task manager a user can deactivate the BB security service (bbsecurity.dll) which is responsible for enforcing the security policy. The BB service itself is not affected by stopping the security service as long as the device is not rebooted. Thus the security policy is no longer enforced but the user is still able to use all other BB features.
2) The BB security service does not block all user actions during device lock. Only the screen overlay is enforced but applications might still be started using hardware keys. There are several ways to misuse this flaw. One for example is if a voice command software is installed, the user can still send voice commands to the device. If Microsoft Voice Vommand is installed and bound to a hardware key and the device gets lost or stolen a malicious person can press the voice command hardware key and ask for upcoming appointments, dial numbers etc. which leads to information leakage.

You cannot deactivate it completely since the policy is enforced after each softreset. As I wrote you can use a task manager to stop the service, but you should under no circumstances stop it permanently because your device will not come up anymore if the service is completely disabled.
So to get back to your question; No, I cannot tell you how to do it with a task scheduler as the only way I know is using a task manager.
One can write a small utility to stop the service and after a softreset one can run this program to avoid using a task manager for that, but AFAIK there is no such program.
mmm After being happy when I put the WWE HTC rom on my TMO Vario IV and after managed to install and initialize Blackberry Connect .103 I got disappointed when the BB security lock came in the first time.
I cannot set the lock-timer higher than 15 min.
Its extremely nasty when I am driving using Tom Tom navigator.....have to type the password every now and then (I have the feeling not exact 15min's!).
I tried the stop-service trick, but that one appears non working with (at least) BBC version .103 and .104 on my device.... Without running BB security service the device wont wake up or soft-reset itself.
Has anyone encountered these new issues with BBC 4 security lock and has anyone found a solution yet???
Was thinking to let the security lock active (preventing my device from locking up or soft-resetting spontaneously) and to build a script that runs in the background checking whether or not the security lock screen is present. And once it is...pastes the security code in the box and pushes OK.
Does this sound do-abe?

Do the same for GOODLINK and you got a deal!
Well I managed to fix this like I mentioned.
Attached are 2 Mortscripts that to run in background from \Program Files\Mortscript
(I have a shortcut in \Windows\StartUp to make sure it is run when my devices is reset, so i do not have to start it myself after every reset, but thats optional)
The 1st script is for general purpose: It just makes sure you will not be bothered again by the BBC security screen
The 2nd script only works when TomTom navigator is active.
You simply choose which script suits your needs best. Both can be run at he same time also I suppose.
The 1st script, BBCUnlock.mscr, simply waits for the security screen, sends the appropriate keystrokes (leftsoftkey, password, leftsoftkey) and restarts itself (to wait for the next security screen popup).
Beware:
1. Enter your own password in the right placxe in the script before using it.
2. Comment-out the last line until you are absolutely sure the script works (remember: 10 wrong passwords deletes all BBC data on your device!!)
It runs in a couple of seconds (which you see happening)
The 2nd script, NoLockTTNVGA.mscr, only works when TomTom Navigator is running: Every 10 minutes it taps the zoom-in and zoom-out hot-spots in TomTom's 3D view (based on VGA resolution!!), before re-launching itself again. This makes the security time-out will never happen as long as TomTom is running.
Update:
The NoLockTTNVGA script works flawlessly, but only fixes the issue when TTN is active
The BBCUnLock script has some glitches. Apparently it locks up my device when
- a reminder 'stays active' for some reason.
- TomTom Navigator is active (but that can be fixed whith the other script!)
The script can be run simultaneously. And when you have TTN: for now they must!
Not sure how to make the BBCUnLock script more stable, any help appreciated.
Hi edsub,
Thanks for your efforts so far. Up to now I have used MemMaid in my startup files so that after a soft reset, I have to firstly unlock the Blackberry and secondly the MemMaid then kicks in and I disable Blackberry Security in Startup Services. This means the security is overridden until my next soft reset as you already know. Therefore, I don't need to install the mortscript for TomTom.
However, I am particularly interested in the other mortscript you have given. I want to be able to simply soft reset my Diamond and then just leave it, without having to (1) input my password and then (2) disable the Blackberry Security in MemMaid.
I think your mortscript is possibly the answer to my prayers.
However, I have installed it to my device and also installed MortScript v4.3.0.2 Beta. I am concerned that (1) I am a beginner & this is too advanced for me and (2) running mortscript will eat up my battery.
I have renamed the extention on your file with .doc and input my password overwriting the appropriate parts) on my desktop and then renamed the extention back to .mscr and then installed in the MortScript folder back on my Diamond.
In MemMaid, I have put the Mortscript and Autorun .exe's into the Startup Items section, so this should run after a soft reset.
However, my Diamond does not unlock itself. What am I doing wrong?
I really appreciate any help you can give me. I am very much a newbie with this program!
I am persevering with this, but cannot get it working. I have put a shortcut for Mortscript.exe and the BBCUnlock.mscr into my Windows Startup folder using MemMaid. I have also tried to change the order of the programs starting on MemMaid, but this does not seem to have any effect on inputting the password. I have obviously changed the word "secret" to "mypassword" in the BBCUnlock.mscr file. I have also tried just putting the BBCUnlock.mscr (without the Mortscript.exe) in the Startup folder.....
I would appreciate your help edsub...
Update:
I have managed to get the BBCUnlock.mscr work during normal operation, but it does not work for the password immediately following a soft reset (it does work thereafter).
This is already a huge improvement as I don't need to then disable the Blackberry Security from MemMaid following a soft reset. However, how can I get it to work for the password immediately following a soft reset?
Please help edsub!!! This is the final ingredient to my perfert Diamond!!!
I think the Mortscript does not run until AFTER the Blackberry Security has been unlocked for the first time following a soft reset. I have tried to change the order of the shortcuts on MemMaid, but haven't managed to succeed. Can anyone offer any help PLEASE???
I have tried some more things too:
Added in a sleep timer of 5 seconds from sensing the "owner information" to pressing the left soft key and also increased the time from pressing the left soft key to inputting the password. It works great in normal mode, but still doesn't work for the single password required immediately following a soft reset.
Also I have tried to put not just a shortcut into the startup folder, but the actual mortscript itself. Plus the shortcut!
I can't believe there aren't more people with this problem. Edsub has certainly created a wonderful mortscript here. It is nearly perfect and I'm sure others would want it if it worked for ALL password inputs required.
Can anyone please help????
I guess Mortscript is not running before the password is given for the first time. I have this behaviour too. So i have to give the password myself right after reset. After that the Mortscript takes good care of it.

Hi Edsub, nice to see you back! Thanks for the reply & PM. Your Mortscript programme is still the most important programme on my device! I did try to re-order the start up processes on SK Tools so that the mortscript would start before the Blackberry security, but I couldn't get it to be more important in this way!! Now I have a Diamond 2 and am hoping not to have to soft reset at all. I have another problem now - I can't seem to get BBC working at all on this phone, but that's another story.....
EdSub, as you are my hero for getting the Blackberry security to sort itself out via your Mortscript programme, I wonder if you can write another Mortscript programme for this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4381321&postcount=89?
I would be very grateful!! I think other Blackberry users would be too.
Hi,
Maybe the question is idiot, but reading the first post, I was wondering why not create a small script which would simply deactivate bbsecurity.dll on startup... If I read it well, doing this once would be enough, and have no impact on the BB service itself...
Using a small sleep, it would be easy to put this script directly in the windows startup folder so that the sleep leaves enough time for the dll to start, and then deactivate it...
Isn't this possible?
Thanks

Edsub already did this with Mortscript. It doesn't de-activate it completely, just senses when the code is required and then enters the code. I would like a script which does what you are suggesting.

Yes, I know this script, and I'm using it... It's working quite good, even if it sometimes misses the code, don't know why... but I'm a bit worried about battery consumption linked to the fact a script is constantly running only for typing this password every 20 minutes... Deactivating the dll would probably be a more efficient solution, but maybe this is not possible using mortscript...

You can use the attached program to stop the service. Just execute it and the service will be stopped. However, you have to do this after each softreset. I recommend to wait until the connection is established to the RIM network and then use BBStopSec.exe
Hope this is what you were looking for.
That's indeed what I was looking for... I'm just surprised it's an .exe and not .mscr...
Is it something you compiled yourself? The idea I had with the mortscript was to add a sleep before stopping the service, because this way, I can simply put it in my startup folder and it will launch automatically after a soft reset... As far as the first lock screen will only come after 20 minutes, I could even put a sleep of 10 or 15 minutes before stopping the service and I would never get my screen locked...

[A] Mapping Network Drives using HTC's Network Plugin

I've tried using Resco Explorer 7.05/Total Commander 2.5.1/HTC's Network Plugin
For some reason i can't seem to map network drives.
In resco when i try to connect to a drive it tells me it's not accessible
In Total Commander it just doesn't connect
In HTC's Network plugin it writes: "Map Drive Failed"
-I'm using Vista on the comp i want to share folders in.
-Sharing works fine on all comps other than in my PPC (not password protected)
-It seems as not only it doesn't map the drive but doesn't acknowledge as anything but the computers on the network exist. no folders inside those computers. Thought about changing my ppc's domain but i don't know how to do that.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Yeah, VISTA FILE SHARING is a bit tricky! You not only have to share that particular drive / folder; you also have to check the settings in the SHARING CENTER - in addition you might have to adjust the file permissions as well.
Everything is perfect on file settings. i have a network running 3 computers and 2 laptops all sharing folders no passwords all permissions set. only thing not able to read the folders is the PPC. It finds the comps on the network but doesn't show the folders.
Did you MOUNT the drives in RESCO? You can't just click on it in the FILE EXPLORER - tap and hold, then select MOUNT DRIVE or FOLDER (depending on what you're sharing).
What RESCO VERSION did you use?
dude... i can't see drives nor folders.
i'm using 7.05
for the record, i tried looking at a winxp comp instead of a vista one.. can't see anything.
tried accessing through ip and name.. both come out with nothing..
I wish someone would help with this also. I have two computers and 1 ppc on my home network. My ppc(HTC Titan) used to be able to access both computers. Then all of a sudden it stopped working for my main computer(bedroom) with all MY files on it, but it still accesses files on my second computer(upstairs). On the main computer(bedroom) I can access the shared folders of the second computer(upstairs), but the second computer can't access the files from the main computer.I dont know whats wrong, but it seems more like a computer issue. I operate Windows XP on a Dell. The network folder used to work perfectly for me and I can't put my fiinger on what's blocking it.
This might be the wrong thread to post this issue(maybe the wrong website) but I thought I would ask since the issues are similar. If it's a ppc program for accessing the shared folders on a computer, then someone should have a How-To or a check list of how to set both up for the program to work fluently. Can somebody please post what you need to do on the computers to ensure sharability of the file systems.
The reason why this is so important to me is because I have been hooking-up my Titan since may 2008 and I am near completion. I'm totally done adding app's and the functionality of the device is superb except for this issue. Just bought a 16gb micro sdhc card and that works great. My girlfriend just ordered a seido 3500mah extended battery with the door to fit and a rubberized hard case for extended battery fit. I'm so excited about have the best phone setup of my life but I everytime I go back to this issue I get pissed off. It was all good til about 4 months ago and I don't know why it suddenly stopped working. Please HELP!!!
If the HTC Network plugin is not locating your shared files on your network, this likely suggest that it is an issue with your network settings. I suggest playing around with your security settings; however, I just recently had a problem accessing any of my shared files over any of my computers between each other and between my HTC Device. It just suddenly stopped working. I knew that I didn't change any settings myself and had tried many things to try to resolve the problem without success. I then decided to run my anti-spyware programs and Anti-Virus programs and let them run overnight. In the morning, the Anti-spyware removed several things - One was labeled as high risk and the others were low and the Anti-Virus found two high risk viruses. Everything was taken care of automatically and voila - I had no problems connecting to my shared files with my computers or my HTC Device. I ran the spyware and virus check programs again and everyting was clean.
the problem is that i can't even map the drives. i can see the comps on the network using the HTC Network Plugin but can't do anything other than that. when i try mapping a drive it tells me that i can't.. for some reason.
i removed password protection...shared the drive... nothing works.
I am assuming you are trying to connect through WIFI -
Make sure that you are actually connected to your network. My device has on several occasions connected to my neighbours wifi rather then my own - results in not being able to access shared folders
Through HTC NEtwork plugin you are exploring the computer for the shared folders right? You say you can see the computers - when you click the plus next to the specified computer in the network plugin are you getting any results at all there.
Make sure you don't have (I don't know if this is what it is called) MAC address filter or password. One of my friends has an open WIFI Network but has MAC Address filter which stops you from actually being able to use the network. You can connect but that is it. You wouldn't be able to surf the internet at all through WIFI either if this was the problem.
If it is none of these, Maybe it is a Windows VIsta problem - I don't know, I have XP
Do you have trouble connecting to other shared folders on other peoples WIFI networks also? (people who have XP)
-XP doesn't work either.
-i can see the comps, so i'm obviously connected to the network.
-i have mac filtering - see previous statement
-wifi works - see previous previous statement
dunno what to do.
Maybe something with your WIFI Settings on your device then?
Maybe you can review your settings on your device - Anythign that you think might be causing the problem - Describe it here, I will check my device settings (even though different devices - should still be the same - and will let you know if there are any differences. I must go eat dinner right now, but will check back after supper and bathing my daughter and putting her to bed. in a hour and a half two hours from now...
Set your desktop to support NTLM instead of just NTLMv2.
That way I got shared folders working with the HTC Network Plugin and my Vista desktop. Unfortunately some HTC apps (like HTC Camera) only expect your device to have two drives (internal ROM and flash card) so when you mount a network drive, they can't access your flash card.
Well, i can start searching, but if you don't mind, could you tell me how to do that?

I wish it worked for me too, but when I get to the "Group Policy Object Editor" I'm getting lost. I don't see that anywhere. Is my computer missing important files? I'm using windows xp. I hope I don't have to restore the whole computer to get the file sharing working. But if I gotta do it I will.the phone see's the computer, but no file sharing. It is that important to me to share files between my phone and computer. My home setup is sweet, and my phone is an extension of it.
Any Other Ideas
So, I have gone through and done everything suggested here. Lan Authentication, created private network, reconnect, everything I can think of...nothing seems to work
Does anyone have any further ideas about what could possibly work to create a LAN over WIFI?
Hardware:
Vista Business, Mogul 6.1 stock ROM 5.2.19208 and Folder Plugin build 30468.
DONE SO FAR:
Have created an adhock private network...connected to it on my device no problem. But when i go to search for my computer in network plugin under the browse menu it thinks about it and in the end doesn't see anything...
so, at wits end...I know I am new but most of the info over is fairly beyond my level I am certinaly a lurker and no info over at PPC Geeks with solutions...either way alot of the stuff over there comes from over here so thought I would see if anyone had some suggestions.

Are there any wpctsc.exe command line switches?

Hi there,
at the moment I try to develop an application that connects to a server with just one click on a button.
I therefore want to use the built-in wpctsc.exe.
Are there any command line switches that I can use to connect directly, without clicking on "Connect" in the wpctsc mask again.
Maybe something like "wpctsc.exe /s profilename" or "wpctsc.exe /IP/port / username / password", etc.
I tried to search with google, but couldn't find any stuff regarding my problem.
Same problem here, anyone knows the trick?

Gmote - how to enable before windows logon screen

I absolutely love Gmote as It means I can control everything on my media PC on my phone without having to walk to the other side of the room to tend to my computer. The problem is I want to keep the windows password logon screen, but Gmote is not running at this time so I am unable to enter my windows password using my phone. My question is how do I get Gmote to run before the login screen so I can use it to input my password?
I have spent many hours trying to accomplish this, and have figured if I want Gmote to be available at the logon screen I will have to setup Gmote as a windows service. I seem to have done this successfully by following the below steps:
1.Run SrvInstw.exe
2.Check Install Service radio box, click Next
3.Check Local Machine radio box, click Next
4.Enter the name for your service, click Next
5.Click Browse and select srvany.exe (which is in the same folder as SrvInstw.exe, remember?), then click Next
6.Click Service is its own Process radio box, click Next
7.Select what user account you want this service to run under. If this service is to have its UI, check the Allow Service to Interact with Desktop checkbox. Normally the services run under System Account
8.Select the startup option, click Next
9.Click Finish. But you are not finished just yet
10.Open RegEdit. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
11.Locate the service you just created in the Services branch, click on it.
12.Create a new key called Parameters
13.Click on Parameters and create a new string value called Application
14.Double-click on Application and set it equal to the full path of your VB executable (e.g. c:\...\MyApp.exe)
I then had a problem when Gmote was starting that it would complain about VlC libraries. After more research I found the following rectified this
A. Right-click "Computer" and choose "Properties".
B. on the left, choose Advanced system settings.
C. Click the Advanced tab, then "Environment Variables"
D. On the bottom "System Variables" group, scroll down to the "Path" variable and double-click
E. What is here varies by what you have installed on your computer. You need to edit the value.
F. Move all the way to the end and add this (no space after current contents):
;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6;C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC;C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\plugins
My only problem now is that Gmote seems to be starting before my wirless network is configured and comes up with an error message:
“unable to join the multicast socket. Is the computer connected to a network? Exiting Gmote.”
Once the wireless network is configured if you close this warning box everything works as it should. Even with the warning box open the file browser works but not the touchpad. The problem is I can’t close this box without a mouse or keyboard, so defeats the object of having my media centre pc solely controlled from my phone.
I looked into adding dependencies to my Gmote registry service key, as I thought this may rectify the problem. The dependencies I have added are RpcSs, Ndisuio, WZCSVC, Ip6Fw, Dhcp, Tcpip, Afd, NetBT (this are the logical ones I could think of)
Despite this Gmote still starts before my wireless network adapter is configured, so I always get the error message. Is there anyway to make sure Gmote only starts once my wireless network is configured?
Not a whole lot to add other than I'm looking for a solution to this problem as well. Thanks for making so much good progress on it!
Where does one find SrvInstw.exe on Windows 7?
Have Googled around and it seems I need a Resource Kit or PowerTools or something.
Any insight appreciated!

If you're on xp, try a dependency on the wireless zero configuration service.
If you're on 7, try setting that service to automatic (delayed) startup.

Where does one find SrvInstw.exe on Windows 7?
Have Googled around and it seems I need a Resource Kit or PowerTools or something.
Any insight appreciated!

You don't have to have srvinstw, it's just a gui for creating the service. What you DO need is srvany, which is supposed to work if you use the files from the server 2003 resource kit.
To create the service without srvinstw, use sc from (admin) command line:
Code:
Sc create mysvcname binpath= c:\path\to\srvany.exe start= auto type= interact type= own
If type= own doesn't work, try type= shared. Then follow op's registry edits.
If you need to delete the service to try again, use
Code:
Sc delete mysvcname

use task scheduler
I have got gmote working as I want by using the task scheduler in xp. I removed gmote from the startup folder where it was originally and then added it as a scheduled task with the following options:
run only if logged on
scheduled task = once
start time I set for 2 mins from now
advanced: repeat task every 1 minutes
then I also setup xp to logon automatically (do a search for control userpasswords2 if you don't know how).
at the specified time in 2 mins gmote server starts up and once running the task scheduler seems to know not to try and relaunch it. If I restart my computer then it logs on to xp automatically and then in a minute or less gmote relaunches, simples! I do note however that if I suspend my computer then when I turn it back on it comes up with the xp login screen even though I have no password set and although the gmote server is still running it won't let me have control till after the log on screen so I have to drag my fat ass across the room and press enter on my keyboard. Alternatively I can just shut down the computer rather than suspending?

[Q] Moto G File manager & Wifi Issue

I just received my Moto G 16GB. The phone is grate. But I have two main issues that just makes the phone useless.
1) I can't seem to find a File Manager. When I connect the phone to PC via USB cable, I can see a list of folders like audio, video, download, Android, etc.. But in the phone I don't know how to access them. Below are the only apps I have on my Moto G.
Screen 1: see attachment screen1
Screen 2: see attachment screen 2
2) My office wifi has a security setting in which I have to enter both my username and password to connect. When I connect my Moto G to the office wifi network, it asks for the username and I can enter it. But the password field is shown only half. I can't enter the password. See the image. I can't scroll down. Please help with these issues.

Congrats @arkkrish for getting Moto G, i also got new MG
to access files from phone you need file manager like ES File Explorer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&hl=en
for password entry issue you minimize the keyboard by touching \/ navigation button
and point the cursor to password entry field. this should work.

I did... but, not working.
I finally enabled 3G data and downloaded the wifi manager app. I can now connect through this app. (I can enter both username and password in this app. But not through Settings.
I resolved it with Add New Network.

I too had the same problem. On top of this, the phone was getting wrong security type for the wi-fi network. I just resolved it by using "add new network" + sign option on the network list screen. I gave the same network name and selected correct security type and other details. It connected just fine. Luckily I have done this kind of act on my home wi-fi for some computer devices, so it came handy.
Hope this helps

I solved this way:
- Provide some data, click on connect
- While it tries to connect, long tap on the network name, then select Modify
There you will have all the input fields you need. Needs a bit of patience though, because the faulty screen will pop up several times, if you click Connect on it you can continue to add your info.

Tried it. Didn't work. I long tapped on the network name and selected Modify Network. But there is no password field. There was an 'Show Advanced Option' checkbox though. When I selected it, two more settings were made visible - Proxy and IP settings. No Password field.
