Unlocking the G1 - G1 Android Development

I have a brand new G1 but i live in Bulgaria and i obviously cannot use it with t-mobile and i want to unlock it. The question is how does xda-dev team have any solution for unlocking the device so that we can use it with other SIM cards than T-Mobile ones.

This has been discussed here before at length.
But to answer your questions, there are places online that will SIM-unlock your G1 for a fee (usually around US$25).
The only free solution I've heard about so far is finding a T-mobile customer willing to lie for you to get an unlock code from T-Mobile USA.

I'm amazed by the number of people who don't know this...
All US carriers to sell LOCKED handsets are REQUIRED by LAW to provide unlock codes upon request.
All you need to do is call the carrier the handset is locked to hand request the unlock code. They will ask you for the IMEI and provied you with the code. If they give you any heat or static about it, just tell them that you KNOW they are required by law to give you the code.
The only way they can refuse is if the IMEI for the handset is tied to an account that still owes money, but if you purchased at retail pricing and never had an account, or currently have an account in good standing, they cannot refuse.
STOP PAYING FOR SIM UNLOCKING AND CALL THE CARRIER!
I have NEVER paid for a SIM unlocking service and am currently using the latest NRG energy rom on my unlocked AT&T FUZE.
SIM Unlock
I don't think what you're saying is true. I have searched for any trace of a US law requiring SIM unlocks an haven't found one. I did find this on wikipedia:
Singapore is the only country that forbid outright SIM locking and contract/phone bundling.
The US and UK don't have any SIM locking laws, but American and British carriers usually offer unlocking codes voluntarily.
Many countries listed below have some form of simlocking laws specifying the period of simlocking and the cost of obtaining unlocking codes. However their effectiveness may be questioned when we look at the iPhone's worldwide distribution practices. The worldwide launch of the iPhone has definitively shattered numerous myths about whether some country has laws against SIM locking.

I second the OP here. It's true but you can only ask your cell phone provider to unlock a phone you bought from them (and not from a friend or fleebay), you have an active contract in good standing, you are atleast 2-3 months into the contract and so on. Basically if they sold u a locked phone, you can demand an unlock.
It sucks to run the whole nine yards, and then pay the same amount of money for the security unlocker. I really wish Olipro could have a security unlock only service.
If you get your carrier to unlock your phone is that when you can flash a Radio from a different device?

Nope...subsidy unlocking is NOT the same as security unlocking.
actually US carriers are required to give you the subsidary unlock code for your device (excluding iPhone and cdma/gsm hybrids although technically, not offerring it for the iPhone is illegal) but only if you are going out of the country and don't to want to use their service or pay their fees since it does not directly interfere with their service.
ATT will give you the code in a couple days if you lie and say your going away for a week or two.
Also that wikipedia article is wrong because phones in Belguim cannot be opertor locked either. Caused a fiasco with the iPhone.

[Q] How to simunlock Samsung Focus

Hi guys,
Whats the best and easiest way to simunlock the At&t samsung focus?
I won this from @benthepcguy from Microsoft, but I live in the Netherlands.
therefor I have no use of a at&t simlocked phone, unless I get it unlocked.
Any ideas?
Well, in the US you could take it to a AT&T store and they'd do it for you. Outside the US, you could try calling AT&T, or your could try calling Samsung directly. I think there are also sites that will sell unlock codes online, which sounds shady but apparently works, and is like $30 or something.
Why don't you tweet Ben stating your problem? He should be able to help you.

Have you test the phone to see if it's already carrier unlocked? I can't imagine why they would give away a phone that's locked to AT&T...
If you're the original owner: Call AT&T and ask the customer rep for unlock code. Use the AT&T phone number listed on your Focus's people hub. They'll ask you for the phone IMEI number.
If you are not the original owner it's unlikely that AT&T will give you unlock code (eg. your phone is locked to another account). Or you can't call them for some other reasons. In that case you can always buy the unlock code from various websites or ebay.
I have used this web site twice (http://www.cellunlocker.net/samsung-unlock.php) to unlock my 2 Focus bought from Craigslist. The unlock code cost about $8 USD each and deliver to your email instantly. Please note: that website is not based in the USA, so my credit card got charged an extra $1 fee.
From what I heard these type of sites pay Samsung/AT&T a fee for special access to their IMEI unlock code database. Either that or they have software that can crack unlock code based on IMEI. I don't know, the codes I bought from them work.
By the way, if you do decided to use that web site make sure you choose AT&T under United State of American as the network that the phone is locked to.

[Q] HTC One X Abroad

Hey everyone,
I will be traveling to Italy this summer for several weeks and am interested in using the phone for emergency calls within the country.
I understand there are prepaid sim cards sold within Italy however the phone must be unlocked in order to use another carrier's sim card.
So to sum it up, is it possible to unlock the HTC One X to be used abroad and if so, where do you guys recommend I unlock it? Is it possible to do it on your own?
This will be my first time unlocking so yes I hate myself.
On a side note I had an At&t sales associate tell me that I won't be able to unlock the HTC One X until six months upon activation and also that international sim cards won't fit into the HTC One X. I'm guessing neither of those are true but what do you think?
Can't unlock the AT&T phone yet. You'll have to borrow/rent another phone. Sorry.
Err... I was speaking about unlocking the bootloader, which isn't even relevant to your question. I'm going to sleep.
Sent from my HTC One X
There is currently no way to SIM unlock yourself (for the typical user). Many paid unlocking services are failing to unlock the AT&T ONe X so far, but apparently, the service on the following post can do it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25758468&postcount=2
I have no personal knowledge of this particular service, and cannot vouch for them. Read the whole thread if you want more info.
I saw something similar on another post "htcsource. com/2012/05/how-to-sim-unlock-the-att-htc-one-x-for-free " where you can get a code generated for free through At&t but I am not sure if that will totally work out.
There are also a bunch of sites that claim to provide a code as well but they don't look too reliable and have several comments claiming the codes did not work.

AT&T will not supply SIM unlock codes for any "exclusive" phones for a period of 10 months after the phone's release, and I think that includes the One X. And the article mistakenly said "you must have an account in good standing (60 days of active service with a pre-paid account)" but it should say post paid.
I think the 10-month exclusivity period is what the sales associate was attempting to refer to.
You can try to call AT&T and ask. I'm guessing they won't give it to you, but if you call, let us know the results.
Also, according to the following webpage, any European carrier that has the iPhone will also have MicroSIMs. So they should have them in Italy, but it wouldn't hurt to do a little more research on this.

Is there any way to Network (Sim) unlock?

Is there any way to Network (Sim) unlock?
Purchased one of these today for my wife (2nd hand) but didnt realize it was network locked.
Couldnt find any threads on this so posting here.
A friend of mine recently unlocked his phone by calling his service provider and asking directly. He had to pay an unlocking fee of $80, but as they took into account what he had already paid in recharges/top ups, he ended up only forking out about &20 extra; and they put that towards his credit anyway.
I think Telstra and Optus charge the unlocking fee for sure, but others such as Vodafone don't.
Sorry I couldn't give you any info using the phone itself.
Hope this helps though?

SM-G930T Galaxy S7 T-Mobile SIM locked

Hi everyone and thanks for the time to read this.
So, recently I purchased a Galaxy S7 from a co-worker. After bringing it to my house I realized it was SIM locked to the T-Mobile carrier. He bought it already used and sold it to me, so I can't unlock trough the T-Mobile customer service.
After an extensive search on the web I found a few paid solutions (unlock sites, Chimera Tool, some android apps). But since I live in Brazil and not the US they end up costing three times their original value due to money conversion.
I found out that you can extract the unlock code from the phone itself through some softwares ( i.e Chimera Tool). So I ask you: there's a free way to do that? I appreciate any help, thx.
Tl;dr: Need a free way to unlock SIM without contact to carrier (T-Mobile)
HI.
I a having this same problem expect. I am however from the usa. I moved tmoblie has no service in new area. They refuse to unlock my model is sm-G930T. Please anyone with any odeals on this problem let me know...
After searching a lot I found a website that fixed the network lock for me. It was also cheaper than the competition. unblockmysamsung.com
It took only a couple days to fix and I did through Paypal so if it didn't worked I could have asked for a refund.
Unlock method
Hi, can you share how you/they unlocked your S7? I was suppose to avail or their service i dont want anyone to remotely access my computer. Did you root the phone or something? Is this something i can do for free or i really have to pay for their service? Thanks!
