App to scan for missing shortcuts? - General Questions and Answers

I notice I have many more programs listed in all programs than in my start menu.. is their an app to scan for these and fix the issue? For example I had to manually create a link for Windows Media Player.

if you mean an app which would scan the shortcuts in \windows\start menu\programs
and remove all shortcuts pointing to files no longer located at their distination
then it could be made
but suspect people who had different programs on varoius sd's would be bothered by the functionality
if you mean a program which would automaticly scanned \program files\ and made shortcuts to every exe located there to \windows\start menu\programs then manu programs include several exe's some which are not ment to be run without parameters

Help: Subfolder in Start Menu has hidden itself...

This is strange...
I keep my Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder organized with several subfolders (Games, Network, Utilities, Media, etc.). Recently my "Network" folder disappeared.
I figured it wasn't a huge issue -- I thought I must have deleted it accidentally, and it's not a big deal to re-create the shortcuts that were in that folder.
So I go to Windows\Start Menu\Programs in TotalCommander and try to create a new "Network" folder, and I'm told that the folder couldn't be created. The same sort of message I would have gotten if there was already a folder with that name...
On a whim I append "Network" to the address in TC's address bar, and lo and behold, there's my Network folder, complete with shortcuts!
So the folder is still there, but it's hidden -- TotalCommander doesn't see it. File Explorer doesn't see it. Wisbar Advance's Cascading Start Menu doesn't see it.
How did this happen, and how can I fix it? Any ideas?
This is on a Prophet (Dopod 818 Pro) running one of the WM6 variants... PDAViet's 4.0.0.5 Cross, I think. (I've flashed so many over the last few weeks I lose track).
TIA for any help!

you didn't need Total Commander to investigate this. Go back to windows directory/start menu/programs. When the list of programs comes up, scroll until you see the sub folder or program in question. when or if you find it in the program list, simply tap/hold/copy. Go back to windows/start menu and paste or paste shortcut there.
Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread, so I'm assuming it's not in the program list. you said you found the program with the complete sub folder, but it's hidden in the directory. Have you tried tapping on "menu" (lower right)/show all files?

wm programs or folder from softkey

Hello guys,
I've been searching a lot, yet could not find the answer.
I would like to be able to open either programs (meaning path start/programs) or just a specific folder from softkey or hardware key.
Is there any way to open the specified folder. Do I need to create a shortcut to this folder? I have tried something like /fexplore.exe /My Documents (which works) but I would need to be able to open them not in list view yet as the programs do apear.
Is there any specific command to at least run the programs, where I would just click the specific folder?
Thank you in advance,
tampiss
I guess a workaround would be a similar apporach to your, /fexplore.exe /My Documents (which works).
Find a file manger that will display in icon view, rather than list, or details... then make a shortcut using that.
Any ideas?
Resco Explorer look promising,
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/indepth.asp
Total Commander CE does an Icon View.
Now... does it respond to command line switches, so I can get it to start in a specified folder?

Shortucts for non installed programs in TF3D program list

The programs tab in TF3D allows me to include already installed apps listed in program files and elsewhere. Some apps though, i have installed on my SD card but they arent listed in the program files because either i did a hard reset or some other reason, so without reinstalling them is there a way to include them in the programs list?
If not i suppose a reinstall is in order, some apps though are big and will take a little while to install.
You can create a shortcut to the wanted exe files and then put it in Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
Or, if you have Resco Explorer, you have an option to send file to Start Menu when press and hold on file.
Thanks will try this, hope it works

TF3D help

Hello,
I have several programs installed on my card (not device). How can I place them in the programs shortcuts in TF3D? They do not appear in the All Programs list and are not selectable. I made a shortcut and placed it into the Program Files folder, but they still are not on the All Programs list.
I do need to run the programs from the card (IGO8 for example).
Other vendors (SPB) gives you an option to place a file or folder as your shortcut, but TF3D does not.
Anyone knows a solution? Any help is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Mike

Help removing a program

I know at least one of you have installed a program before on your Smartphone that wasn't able to be found in the "Remove Programs" option under settings.
I'm havin' this problem with a program called "TopOCR-Mobile LE."
It was an .exe file that had to be installed on the device. So I did, and now I can't seem to remove it. I deleted the .exe under program files, but the blank icons still remain (there's two of them 'cause I thought I could be smart and run the .exe twice and it'd ask if I would want to remove the program; it didn't - instead it just installed it TWICE).
Is there a way to remove those icons? I already used Regedit's and Total Commander's search features, but I couldn't find any files with the name "topocr" or "mtopocr" (it's installation name).
What are my options (besides throwing my Kaiser against the wall or hard resetting)?
Where exactly do you see those blank icons that you are talking about
programs icons are located in
\windows\start menu\programs
it it's a program which auto start then
\windows\startup
