Solution To close Application in G1 or even Emulator - G1 Android Development

1- first of all you should download terminal emulator fro Android market http://www.android.com/market/
2-run terminal emulator
3-just type ps (show all running process)
e.g
USER PID PPID VSIZE RSS WCHAN PC NAME
app_13 295 23 119720 30612 ffffffff afe0c824 S com.android.browser
4-find the application you want to close suing it's name from proccess list
5-just type kill pid
e.g
kill 295
That's it

OpenVPN
Please don't retire this! people haven't stumbled on it but this is great!
The #1 reason most people root their phones even when they don't want to!
Thank you very much. I was using the one in cm7 and worked perfectly. Is there any plans to port it to cm9, this is the most missing feature for me in cm9. Thank you.
Waiting for password authentication.
Nice work anyway!

Sure, I'm still working on it, it will be done soon. And I need to setup a test openvpn server first.
I can provide an OpenVPN connection (username and password) if required or it's too much work building a test server.

I have already completed it, still thanks
Seems to be an issue with using the tls-auth option. It ignores the file even though the path is correct.

I haven't test this feature before, maybe I should migrate this with the new keystore API.
can't select trusted CA
When I select my CA nothing changes so I'm not sure if it registers the certificate in the connection.
When I hit connect the icon flashes in the notification area and disappears.
I have tried the CA certificate in both .pem and .crt formats
Log says: No log.
Am running CM9 on AT&T Nexus S.
config request
Hi! Thanks for your great work!!!
Could you please add a simple checkbox in the connection settings to make the option "--ns-cert-type server" optional?

Both .pem and .crt is pem format, where the content should be enclosed between "-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----" and "-----END CERTIFICATE-----", you can use any text editor like notepad to check it.
I'll make the error message more verbose and accurate. Before that, can you use `adb logcat` to check if there is any error message ?

I know they are the same but for some reason the android store will only load .crt files.
The certificate begins and ends as mentioned.
I will try to run a logcat tomorrow.

I have fixed 'Extra arguments' option in 0.9.1, please update and you'll be able to specify custom options.
I have a working OpenVPN server with PCs and Android devices connecting to it.
Here is the situation with ICS.
I have installed this OpenVPN for a friend running ICS Midnote 3.3 for his Samsung Galaxy Note. Unfortunately, I can't get it to work, the logs does not display anything. It goes on stating its preparing and does not do anything else.
I tried forcing it to write any logs by supplying log /sdcard/openvpn/log.txt under the parameter section.
My currently VPN settings include.
Ca.crt, username and password. No keys are supplied.
To isolate things, I tried it with DroidVPN client, which works but is painstakingly slow.
You assistance is highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Double checked and there were a few characters before "begin certificate ". Removed them and the certificate loads(the app should ignore any text before/after those words). Still wouldn't connect and nothing in the log.
Just tried 0.9.2 and the log now says:
1335355150,D,MANAGEMENT: CMD 'state on all'
1335355150,D,MANAGEMENT: CMD 'hold release'
1335355150,D,MANAGEMENT: CMD 'username 'Auth' "xxxxxx"'
1335355150,D,MANAGEMENT: CMD 'password [...]'
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
It seems that it doesn't work and I'm not clear about what the issue is. I'm using user+password authentication.

Maybe you know why the alias==null happens.
Seems there are still some problem when user certification is not set. I'll figure it out soon.
This is what I got now after installing the new version. The application doesn't stay in the notification bar as before and it seems there is no connection to the OpenVPN network.

[GUIDE] SManager - How to use Commands

Hi,
I want to learn some of the commands for use in SManager (Script Manager) for ANDROID.
https://sites.google.com/site/devwom/script-manager
Does anyone know a suitable thread with guide or commands for SManager? I tried searching the web and XDA but did not find anything myself.
Specifically I want to know the cmd line to start an app.
EDIT 1:
Spent a good few hours trying to google a solution but drawn a blank.......Maybe Shell Scripts for Linux are not same as for Android...?
I would like to be able to run a script that does the following:
Checks if a directory exists on the sdcard
then executes a command (renaming of 2 directories)
then starts a program
EDIT 2:
well a few emails with the author of SManager and I was able to write my first script to check if the app is running and then if not, to rename folders and start the other version of the app. (I have Navigon Europe as well as Navigon Australia and was looking for a solution to allow both to co exist on my One-X at the same time. As both apps share the same directory structure the issue was that starting one version would overwrite the critical files of the other).
Now with my script installed as a widget I can toggle between each version without problem.
Here is some useful information on shell language for others (credits to the author of SManager Devwom):
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Bash-Prog-Intro-HOWTO.html
Here are some critical bits of info received during my emails with him:
Thanks a lot for your interest in SManager.
The requested commands is a mix between linux commands and android os commands.
To get info about each command you can search in google and select the preferred page.
But the commands available in each Android device depends on running rom.
To get all available commands in your device, simply execute a ls (lower case LS) in system directories, that is:
ls /system/bin
ls /system/sbin
ls /system/xbin
ls /system/usr/bin
ls /system/usr/sbin
ls /system/usr/xbin
These are the most common directories where binaries resides in android devices.
May be you also can have commands at:
ls /bin
ls /sbin
ls /usr/bin
ls /usr/sbin
usually android rooted roms have the well known busybox, to get a list all comands inside it simply execute
busybox
to get all installed packages (and running names) from your device you can execute:
pm list packages
to get info about running process
ps
or
ps aux
or
ps -aux
depending on ps version installed
If conditions are based on test bash command this command is a bit confused, because usually it is named as [, and other times it is built-in inside shell
read "test man page" to get a full list of test command flags.
To check if an app is running:
if [ -n "$(ps|grep os.tools.scriptmanager)" ] ; then
echo SManager is running
fi
To check if app is NOT running:
if [ -z "$(ps|grep os.tools.scriptmanager)" ] ; then
echo SManager is NOT running
fi
To check if a file exist:
if [ -e /sdcard/file ] ; then
echo /sdcard/file exists
fi
To check if a file exist and it is a directory:
if [ -d /sdcard/file ] ; then
echo /sdcard/file exists and is directory
fi
To rename a directory simply use mv command:
I hope you can build your script with this info.
Start app it is very easy but getting correct info to start app is a bit confused.
starting app uses "am command"
To get correct info to start app you should execute:
logcat |grep Starting
in a terminal on device
then go to launcher and launch desired app
then go back to the terminal and you will see a line with info about how to fill am command.
For example if you execute SManager
in
logcat|grep Starting
output you will see
I/ActivityManager(* 275): Starting: Intent { act=android.intent.action.MAIN cat=[android.intent.category.LAUNCHER] flg=0x10200000 cmp=os.tools.scriptmanager/.launcherActivity } from pid 377
so to start scriptmanager you need the following command
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -c android.intent.category.LAUNCHER -n os.tools.scriptmanager/.launcherActivity
I do not know how to stop apps from command line, I usually use killall command:
killall os.tools.scriptmanager
if you do not have killall command you can use grep and awk or cut commands
kill "$(ps|grep os.tools.scriptmanager|grep -v grep|awk '{print $2;}')"
or
kill "$(ps|grep os.tools.scriptmanager|grep -v grep|cut -f5 -d" ")"
may you need adjust -f5 flag
To execute script as shortcut install SMWidgets.
Scripts usually ends with last line , ie, not special action is required, it will exit with the last executed command return code
Also you can add
exit 0
or preferred exit value, but 0 usually means OK
To end script in the middle use
exit value
where value usually it is not 0
Also it is better use mv command instead rename command.
rename command it is not linux standard, but mv command is in all linux shells.
Android shell programing it is not equals to linux shell programming but this was one of my first scripting documents many years ago and it can be used as a guide. http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Bash-Prog-Intro-HOWTO.html
Best regards,
Devwom
Thanks, this is valuable information! It's a shame this thread didn't get more replies
I've been looking to change my wallpaper by script, but so far I haven't been succesful. With your guide, I guess I'm a step closer to my goals!
Hi.
Perhaps developer of smanager or any expert is reading...
I would like to write a script for 2 purposes. Both handle with samba share running on my ubuntu.
1st situation.: I would like to move my media, download and documents files from android to the desired folder on my Ubuntu, which is shared by samba in my LAN.
The goal is to start this script with just touching a widget.
2nd situation: I would like to copy files from my samba shared folder in ubuntu to a specific folder on sdcard in android. All files in folder on sdcard should be deleted before copying. Again just by touching a widget.
Shared folder on samba are with password and rw.
Till now I am doing it manually with esexplorer...
I would like to do it with script.

[Q] how to launch an app from the terminal, opening specified file?

From the terminal, I would like to learn how to open a file in an android app.
As an example, how would I open /storage/emulated/0/Download/test.txt in Ted lightweight text editor?
When I try this:
Code:
am start -a android.intent.action.EDIT -n fr.xgouchet.texteditor/.TedActivity -d /storage/emulated/0/Download/test.txt
I get an error that includes "Permission Denial: startActivity asks to run as user -2 but is calling from user 0; this requires android.permission.INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS_FULL"
I'm not sure exactly what that's about, so I try to work around it with this:
Code:
am start --user 0 -a android.intent.action.EDIT -n fr.xgouchet.texteditor/.TedActivity -d /storage/emulated/0/Download/test.txt
Now Ted editor starts, but it opens a new file and not the specified file. I tried multiple times; one time there was a message at the top saying something to the effect that the specified file could not be opened. I've also tried different test files to exclude the possibility that test.txt is corrupt.
I'm stuck. Please help!
P.S. Ted's AndroidManifest.xml is available on github. I tried posting the link but, being new to the forum, I was not permitted to do so.
------------------
OS: CM11
Device: Moto G
Relevant apps: Terminal Emulator (jackpal.androidterm 1.0.65), Ted (fr.xgouchet.texteditor 1.8.1)
1) After countless hours of trial and error, I figured it out. Entering this command in the terminal opens the file for editing in Ted:
Code:
su -c "am start -a android.intent.action.EDIT -n fr.xgouchet.texteditor/.TedActivity -d file:/storage/emulated/0/Download/test.txt"
If you are reading this thread and like to write your own shell scripts, these two commands might also come handy if your script uses both CLI and GUI utilities:
2) To see the name of the app currently in the foreground:
Code:
su -c "dumpsys window windows" | grep mCurrentFocus | cut -d'/' -f1 | cut -d' ' -f5
3) To put the terminal in the foreground again:
Code:
su -c "am start -n jackpal.androidterm/.Term"
If you know how to do 1) (see my previous post) without root privileges, please post it here.
It doesn't make sense to me that root privileges would be required to open a user-owned file in a text editor. Android is linux, after all, so I'm hoping that anything a normal user can do via the GUI can also be done from the command line.

[APP][5.0+][BETA] Island - app freezing, privacy protection, parallel accounts

What is "Island"
"Island" is a sandbox environment to clone selected apps and isolate them from accessing your personal data outside the sandbox (including call logs, contacts, photos and etc) even if related permissions are granted. Device-bound data is still accessible (SMS, IMEI and etc).
Isolated app can be frozen on demand, with launcher icon vanish and its background behaviors completely blocked.
How does it work
Island takes advantage of the "managed profile" feature on Android 5.0+, which is the also the base of "Android for Work", to create an isolated sandbox for apps and their data.
App needs to be cloned in Island first. Afterwards, the clone can run parallel aside from the original one. (even with different accounts signed-in) It can be frozen on demand by Island. (NO ROOT REQUIRED)
Currently, all operations are manual in Island. There's a plan to integrate Greenify with Island to provide automatic freezing feature.
Common use case
Freeze frequently woken apps. Clone it into Island and uninstall the original one outside. Then you can freeze it to fully block its background behaviors. Remember to create launch shortcut for quick de-freezing and launching.
Prevent permission-hungry apps from accessing your private data. Sometimes runtime-permission may not be the solution, especially if the app refuses to work without certain permissions. App clones running in Island cannot access your contacts, call logs and sniff other apps outside. But SMS and location are exceptions since they are bound to device.
Use two accounts of the same app parallel. Clone it into Island and login the other account inside.
Archive rarely used apps. Like the first case, keep them frozen until the next time you need it.
Hide your private apps.
DISCLAIMER
This beta version may be dangerous on some Android devices, it may cause boot-loop and even brick your device. The purpose of closed beta exclusive for advanced users is to widely test and improve the device compatibility. Don't install it on your daily device and remember to BACKUP FIRST.
Install
Opt-in the open beta test on Google Play: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.oasisfeng.island (May take several minutes to become visible after opt-in)
Or download the APK here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3fmjigfejcu0kko/AABJy7du0DQx2Jn_R0uQcy6Ea?dl=0
Manual override for non-encrypted device (NO ROOT REQUIRED)
Currently, Island will prompt that it requires device encryption to work. You need either an encrypted device or the root privilege to create the Island.
If you don't want to encrypt your device, besides the root option, there's actually also a manual procedure to create Island on your device for advanced users.
Execute the following commands in the shell (in exact order):
pm create-user --profileOf 0 --managed Island
(remember the user ID shown, usually 10, use it in the following commands to replace the "<user id>".
If you got "Error: couldn't create User", execute setprop fw.max_users 10 first, then retry the command above.)
pm install -r /data/app/com.oasisfeng.island-1/base.apk
(if you get "file not found" error, use "-2" instead of "-1" in above command and execute again)
(Android 6.0+) adb shell dpm set-profile-owner --user <user id> com.oasisfeng.island/.IslandDeviceAdminReceiver
or (Android 5.x) adb shell dpm set-profile-owner com.oasisfeng.island/.IslandDeviceAdminReceiver <user id>
adb shell am start-user <user id>
Click to collapse
If all goes well, Island will start, showing the app list.
Now, have fun without device encryption.
Experimental "God mode"
In normal mode, Island only takes care of apps inside the Island space. The “God mode” is an experimental mode, in which Island takes control of ALL apps, both inside and outside Island space. For example, you can freeze any app without cloning it first.
It is still in beta testing and not ready for average users. At present it is only recommended for advanced users who is well understanding what is going on the device and how to deal with unforeseeable troubles.
The limitations in “God mode”:
App Backup (Cloud backup for app data by Google Play services) will stop working on Android 5.x~6.x. (Not an issue on Android 7+)
If G Suite (Google for Work) account is logged in Island, Play store will switch to work mode and you cannot install most of the apps. Log out the G Suite account will revert Play store to normal mode.
God mode could only be setup manually:
Remove all accounts and "Work profile" (which is the Island space if you have already setup normal mode of Island) in system Settings - Accounts.
Execute in ADB shell:
Code:
dpm set-device-owner com.oasisfeng.island/.IslandDeviceAdminReceiver
If you get error message in this step, please try executing settings put global device_provisioned 0 and then above dpm ... command again, followed by settings put global device_provisioned 1. (The last command is very important, otherwise you may face status bar locked and being unable to call or SMS.).
Start Island app now and it will work in God mode.
God mode could even work together with normal mode in Island, giving you full control on apps both inside and outside of Island. Just setup God mode first and then follow the steps to setup normal mode, as mentioned above.
Is this the same concept as MoboClean? Interested to see how it works and save more battery for all of us

No, Island never repack apk file locally, which is inherently insecure for users, since all your app data (including password input) are technically in the hand of MoboClean. (The same applies to other similar tools, e.g. LBE Parallel Space)
Instead, Island takes advantage of the underlying mechanism used by "Android for Work". This ensures that all your apps run natively in Android system and their data are securely stored in internal location of Android which is never accessible by Island. It has the same level of security as "Android for Work".
This will be another weapon against bloatwares.

@oasisfeng Hi, I've become a beta tester and operation system is 5.0.2 but still can't download from Google play ,and it says this application with all of your devices are incompatible.
Works great on my Sony E5823. Hope the automatic mode will come soon.
Really excellent work and admire your always ingenious work.
Something wrong with the cloned app Meituan. While running, the force close warning will keep poping out though after click yes, the app is still usable without being force closed.

Sorry, not all devices / ROMs support managed profile as the AOSP/Nexus device. If you are using 3rd-party ROM, please contact the ROM modder for support of "managed profile" feature.
Even if your device is not supported right now, please stay tuned for the incoming "God mode" which supports all devices of Android 5.0+.
