Do I have root? No JF update/multi touch? Help! - G1 Android Development

I think I followed all of the steps properly.
When I download droidsans tweak tool... I can auto rotate(does that mean I have root?).
I can't multi touch tho.
When i download jf updater and run it it says:
"your system is running and unsupported OS mod. Please manually upgrade to JFv.1.41 or later and try again"
My settings show:
Kernel version:
2.6.25-01843-gfea26bo
[email protected] #6
Build number:
kila-user 1.0 TC4-RC29 115247
ota-rel-keys,release-keys
What is wrong? why can't I JF update
Thanks.

EH - WRONG!
RC29 has root access by default ACROSS THE BOARD! However, you can not apply the JF update because you do not have the test keys installed. You need to follow the steps in the sticky outlined above:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
Just start where it says "Rooting your RC29 or lower phone:", and you are good to go.

i want to flash my phone with jf's roms but i want to know if he already has a rom that has root and wont need to be activated because i dont have a data plan
The ADP1 updates (incl the JFMod version) have an option on the initial setup wizard to bypass activation. However, running ADP1 means you won't be able to buy apps from the Market. Alternately, install the JFMod version of RC33 and follow the instructions in the "How to register the G1 without a sim or dataplan" thread.

you can download and buy apps from the market.
what you can't do with an ADP is buying protected apps only and they are very few.

i read the sticky but it said rc30 i reread it and it was for rc30 up so i got that down so anyway if i flashed with a modded rc33 i can unlock using the method posted in the sticky right and can someone give me a link to the modded rc33 i think i found it but im not sure and i dont want to brick my phone so thank you guys for the help
so this how you flash the phone with a different rom
1. Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode:
* Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
* Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
* A new removable disk should show up on your computer. Right click it and select Format, and select FAT32 as the file system type.
2. Download and unzip the RC29 or RC7 image file. Copy the DREAMIMG.nbh file to the SD card. (RC29 for US, RC7 is for UK)
3. Turn the device power off.
4. Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry bootloader mode. You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card. If you don't see that, make sure you followed the instructions properly.
5. As per the on-screen instructions, press the Power button to start upgrade procedure. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.
but instead of using rc29 i want to use the modded rc33 so i would be going from stock rc33 to modded rc33 because i read it was already rooted if anyone can tell me thats right ill appreciate it

That would be nice. I wouldn't call it "wrong" like the other guy did, because wanting something isn't wrong. It just won't work since there is no mod-RC33 image available *in the required format*. Problem is that in order to write a system image to a stock consumer device, that system image needs to be digitally signed with a private key that we simply don't have available.
So the procedure becomes... write the older system image that has a known exploit available, and use that exploit to root the device, allowing you to write the engineering bootloader, which allows the installation of your desired system image.
ok so if i go from rc33 to rc29 and root it how do i got to jf's rc33 wont i loose the root

how did you find this link, I don't see it on the android website.
Also an install guide would be nice too.
Has anyone come across a RC9 nbh image? That would be useful for those with stock bootloader / no root.
are you sure RC9 is cupcake?
as JF did an RC9 and that was ver 1.1, cupcake is 1.5
It's not RC9, it's definitely cupcake. I posted it earlier here - there's some advice on page 5 if you need it.

i got it to work, but can we downgrade it.
Works great. The only problem I have is that once you flash this build, will it be permanent?
Can you downgrade back to any of the previous roms? I tried but no luck.
Anybody help ? Please I am lost.
Thanks for the link, no more waiting impatiently for the OTA update. Sad to see Latitude is still disabled for the UK but it's good to have decent video support at last.

Does this one have numbers in UK format?
JF1.5 has numbers in a different format

JF1.5 has
012-345-678-9
I applied this update manually from this post - does it include the radio? I have problems with bluetooth handsfree now (though bluetooth stereo works fine)..

Did JF already mod the T-Mobile Official Release of 1.5????
Asking because JF Updater isn't showing any updates to download at this time
The "Cupcake" that JF modded was the ADP build.
Hmm. It's from here: http://andblogs.net/2009/05/tmobile-usa-cupcake-url/, but it wasn't posted by JF, and JF's blog (http://jf.andblogs.net/) has not been updated.

I have an unrooted phone, but I loaded the us cupcake and its working fine. Only problem I see is the phone isnt as fast
I think it's faster. I've been using JFv1.5 on my white phone. Unrooted my black one to try this out. Seems alright. No new widgets...ala myFavs...which is what I would have liked to see since I've been waiting so darn long. No "spare parts" either. I kind of liked the option to make the text smaller and was looking forward to a working version of it. Obviously, they couldn't figure it out either.
I just bricked my phone.
I follow the root tut.
Then, intead of installing the RC33-signed, I tried to install the OTA Cupcake.
Got the "unsigned," issue.
I think I looked and tried to unroot by way of reflashing RC29, but bricked it.
Stuck at G1 screen.

[HOW-TO] downgrade HBOOT 0.92 to 0.80 again

Attention: This method will completely wipe your phone!!!
You can find the reworked Tutorial here: http://android-tutorials.org/
Video of the first step is online: Step 1
Video of the 3 & 4 step is online: Step 3 & 4
Known Problems
If you have problems while re-rooting or custom recovery (unrevoke) try to downgrade again with the above procedure.
Make sure you have made a new goldcard.
If you have problems e.g. 140 ERROR please follow these instructions (thx to raz2133)
This will fix your MISC Partition so you can flash back original RUU files.
Happy re-rooting
P.S. i hope you can understand this because english is not my foreign language

Ok for the dumb and ignorant among us (a.k.a me) what state does this leave your phone in.
I get I downgrade HBOOT to 0.80 and my phone will be wiped, but what ROM will be on the phone after the downgrade will it still be the OTA rom or will it be another one?
Or do I then need to install a ROM of my choice after the downgrade, sorry if this is a really stupid question, I haven't put any custom ROM on my Desire yet and then I got the OTA update as I was thinking about checking out some custom stuff. Not had the phone long.
Thanks.

Blank and wiped device
Firmware: 2.1-update1 UNROOTED!
HBOOT: 0.80

It will work but if it's modified in any other ways then the update might fail.
Updating by this method will remove your root but you can easily regain it, just follow the root thread.
can I run this update from 2.3.5 rooted or I should make 2.3.6 OTA first?
Yes. It is just a modified updater, all the changes are same as in OTA.
Having a problem. When I do the OTA update, it downloads it, restarts, starts to install, then I get a !. When it fully reboots it says, failed to install update. When I tried this method, stated above, I press System Update and it still wants to download, it has no copy option.
