I have google search bar and windows live search bar on my today screen. But when I search it uses Pocket Internet Explorer instead of Opera Mini 4.
Does any know how to change the registry or install an app that would use opera mini?
Thanks
Use the MortScipt option to set Opera Mini as the default browser.

beat me to it! See:

Thanks for the reply guys but I already tried that script a few days ago and it seemed pretty buggy with google search bar. Mortscript is like an automated macro program you would use on pc. On the ppc, I had a problem where it starts clicking on the search button randomly. I tried the "WM6 OperaMiniAsDefaultBrowser - WithoutSelectionDialog.cab" again today but still the same problem.
Here is a link to the original Posting that I downloaded this from.

From Opera
http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/
I will get screen shots and a review up ASAP!!! I just installed and am messing around with it. There is also a widgets app which comes pre-loaded with a twitter widget, geoquizz, bubbles (game), status widget (ping.fm?), and google translator. You can click to add more and are taken to Widgets.Opera.com. where there is a selection to choose from. Seems Cool.
The scrolling seems to be quicker and smoother. Very nice. From the original post it seems that Turbo is off by default so I am now going in to Opera:Config to turn it on and see if there is a difference in loading.
Note:

I had been testing HSPL this week and havn't had a chance to play in Opera7 much anymore....... I just reinstalled on my newly flashed rom from udk..... So screenshots and such will be coming in the next few days. I'm very busy.

Overall experiance is good. Besides no zoombar. XDA loads faster.
I have experienced several freezes and crashes. It Is BETA though. So that is expected.
I have been able to get the zoombar working in some way. Not to zoom but I can use it to scroll down the page and through items. If intrested I can post the registry tweak for it.
There is a little animation noticed when rotating.
I am able to play video off of Youtube.com but not hulu.com
Screen rotation does not work at the moment. Using G-config as recommended below Works. Will see what registry edits were done using it.
I seems that in the original build Opera Config has more settings under adaptive zoom including one that says "zoom slider maximum" So this may be more tha a registry tweek. IDK

It seems the zoombar is non-responsive. Could just be a registry tweak.... IDK though. Will try my best with waht little skill I have to look into it.
There is History when you start to type a URL
After a soft reset the Original Opera loads from the Browser Tab now.
Opera will not launch from Browser Tab after install and Bookmarks are not transfered. The original Opera Browser is still there and is not over writen though.
Just installed it and works great. Pages loads much faster and more smooth, turning the turbo mode didn't notice anything spectacular. Confirmed the ZOOM scroll bar does not work with the beta version. Hope its just a registry tweak or something.
Cheers,
Hi!
Hopefully HTC will release either a ROM upgrade or cab package that integrates opera 9.7 into TouchFlo. A cab package is maybe more likely at this beta stage.

PK
Anybody manage to get the screen rotation working?
Screen roatation doesn't work as well...
Other than screen rotation, i am also having problem with suspending the device with opera 9.7 running.
I'm interested to see if someone can solve these issues too... other than that, it's faster and generally better.
cant read a page w/o to zoom in, but for the rest it is faster and sleeker
have tryed 9.7b1.
The page rendering is pretty fast,
but some pages are shown not correct.
to add rotation use G-Config
I, have tryed to enabling zooming with Advanced Config,
but the result was that the zoombar now scrolls thru the links.
Silly question guys... If I install the new opera, what will happen with the built in version? Will it be replaced or installed as a separate app?

No the original build stays in tact.
Some new notes on first post. Help is needed to enable zoombar if anyone knows. I got the zoombar working to scroll the page in opera.
I have installed beta 9.7 but it became the default browser. I was not happy about it so I uninstalled it. now links from mail are opened in IE instead of the pre-installed Opera. Is it supposed to do that or is there a way to get Opera back as default?

It installed as default for me as well. i don't know the specific registry edit but if you search the forums you can find it. Search for something like "setting Opera as default browser"

From their site:
* Opera Turbo in Opera Mobile is still a preview-feature;
o Downloads don't work while Opera Turbo is enabled.
o Some settings (such as toggle on/off images) do not apply when Opera Turbo is enabled.
* On older WM 5.0 Devices with 480x800 resolution, switching between portrait and landscape may cause display errors. This is due to lack of support for this resolution in early versions of Microsoft's driver.
* Some input method editors are known not to work well with Opera because they do not comply with Microsoft's SIP and/or IME standard. When such an editor is detected by Opera, Opera will use a known (default) input method instead. An exception is EzInput v1.5, where the phone keypad and compact QUERTY, ABC mode doesn't work, but the rest of the modes work fine. We recommend upgrading to EzInput v2.0 to avoid this.
* Only support for FlashLite 3.x. No Flash plugin included.

Zoombar
nice that you figured out how to scroll now with the zoombar. Can you please share your knowledge?
And does anybody knows how to get this zoombar working again?
After installation the zoombar is not working anymore at the 9.5 and the 9.7beta version.
The 9.5 version is still on the phone as it comes with the rom.
Does anybody knows hot to change the Manila"Internet" tab from 9.5 to 9.7 beta
Thanks for you help,
atoem
Flash works just fine with Opera 9.7b1, but check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544770

what browser would you say is the best for non touchscreen devices?
My favorite was Iris browser, sadly they stopped supporting it. Many people like skyfire, however it always hangs at "connecting" for me. Finally opera mini 5 looks great however it isn't native so I always have to lauch it through java and accept that the data connection may cost... and it doesn't like the keyboard on my htc rose.
any suggestions?

Opera Mini 5 beta is by far the finest, all ur issues can be resolved, for instant launching and a signed one so it doesnt ask u everytime u launch for connection, download and install the .jad from Opera Mini 5 Beta (Signed).zip one from stylez >>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4567823&postcount=43
Also the zip have the shortcut and icon dll to launch it, place the shortcut in \Windows\Start Menu and the dll in \Windows.
before installing this remove the other Opera 5 installs and any other .jad or .jar of opera on ur device.
for keyboard issue, disable Inline Editing in Settings > Advanced, this is made for keypad phones.
And for a super browsing experience, turn on Fullscreen mode.
how do i place the dll in the windows folder, the file explorer doesn't "see" the file...
edit: i installed totalcommander which solved the problem!
edit2: thanks for all your advice!! and wow that icon looks ugly... is there no other icon around or how can i convert a picture to a .dll file?
I would agree- Opera Mini is one polished browser.

Haha it is quite ugly, the attached dll has a much cleaner icon, based on WM 6.5 icons in ookbas ROM. just replace the file.
great thanks!!
I'd like to have 2 more things fixed:
1. the clock is wrong, how do I set it right?
2. when I press the hang up button to exit the browser, the next time I want to use it, I need to press "continue" to keep using the java program. Is there any way to avoid this "continue" dialog?
Hi, have a question here.
How do I change the Touch Flo 3D Internet tab on my P3700's browser to a new one from the default Opera browser. Running on WinMo 6.1
i.e. I want to change to Opera 10 beta. The old Opera sucks..
So after I change, I can expect if I hit the launch browser tab, it will automatically launch Opera10.
THANKS GUYS!!
Ive recently upgraded to a tp2 verizon model and im running stock rom
wich i guess uses touch flo 3d ui.
Now when I go to the browser tab and open browser Opera opens and I can use it.
If I click end call button and return to today screen to check some other things
it looks like if Opera has closed if I look at the task menu.
But ive determined from frequent laginess that it's probably still running in backround
but not showing on the taskmenu. And if i click on browser or other shorcut to opera
it opens immediately and shows the page I was just viewing.
So im wondering, is it possible to change something so that Opera shows up
on the taskmenu if I have opened it via the browser tab?
Is this the way it works on newer ui versions like sense too?

The reason it seems to be running in the background is because it is! The app won't show up in TaskManager after you close it but the Service will still be running in the background. (Pushinternetservice). On the one hand it means that Opera will open faster every time but the down side is resource usage and slower device restart time.
It can also be a ***** trying to make changes to settings using Opera Config while the service is running. You can kill it permanently if you care to. Have a look here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948
