To answer the question that everyone is thinking as they click on this thread... Yes, I am a noob.
Anyway, I downloaded the Android Kitchen and installed it on a Linux Ubuntu Virtual Machine on my Macbook using VMWare Fusion and i watched a video from theunlockr, but all it really let me do was add in apps, change the rom name and give it a few features but no visual customizations... If i posted a link of the "My ROM" no one would be able to tell a difference in the rom i planned on starting from.
Let me know if there is a different way to create that is actually making ROMs or customizing the ROM in it's entirety instead of small unnoticeable features, let me know if I'm just doing something wrong in my Android Kitchen and let me know if theres an easy way to develop ROMs on Mac without Virtual Machines. (The last one isn't a big worry because linux is very lightweight and runs fine on my computer but please help me on the other two questions)
Thanks in advance,
AdamFerg
I'll make this as quick as possible, any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been searching for weeks for a solution. I have even looked on the forums here and haven't found anything addressing this. I need to either clone the operating system with included programs from my work phone, or I need to clone a particular program that we use in the field (which is ultimately the object), and i need to either run it as a Virtual Machine on a netbook, or I need to run it on a tablet. I'm not a noob when it comes to computers, but I am when it comes to working with cell phones since computers have mostly been my focus. I'm happy to make the transition though. Any of the programs I would need or tutorials anyone knows of would be fan frickin tastic. I searched youtube also and nothing on there. I'm serious about this, you reply, I'll reply back. Thanks ahead of time.
Okay so basically, if you check out www.androlinux.com or search for youtube for ZedoMax, the guy has hacked ubuntu onto android.
I followed his instructions to a point, had to use rootstock to create a lucid kernel though (for lts). He provides four scripts, another file and an .IMG - I made mine.
Basically, documentation issues + a linux noob mean I cant find all the files it created on my phone, kill em all, and try again.
If somebody could take a look at the scripts and let me know what they think, I would be wholly appreciative!!
Also if anyone knows of a workaround to viewing the GUI over vnc thatd be awesome too!
Ps I know of the official version.. Thats not the solution im looking for.. As you can run apps directly in ubuntu im thinking of an interface app for it but thats another days tasking.
Sent from my LT18i using XDA
Some of the ported games use SDL for the Interface, maybe that is a way?
I'll bear this in mind - my Coursework atm is modding IOQuake3 Thanks dude
I realize this should probably be posted on an Ubuntu forum on another website, but considering my only reason for doing this is to get into Android development, I figured asking the people who use it in the manner I want to is a smarter decision. I'm a long term programmer with many different languages under my belt, but have absolutely zero experience with anything linux. I built a new PC during the fall with the intent of setting up a VM and installing Ubuntu. I just upgraded the box to include an SSD as my primary drive, did a clean install on Win 8 pro, and want to set up a VM (hyper-v) to run Ubuntu on. The threads that I've found here more or less skip the whole setting up Ubuntu and jump right to getting ready for development. I'm sure i'll be grateful for those posts in a few days, but i'm trying to figure out the best configuration to get me there. I'm not partial to any release, but was leaning towards 12.04 given its LTS status. Version aside, I have a few questions. First, how much initial partition should I create to house the VM (i've got up to 2tb, but don't want to create wasted space)? Second, how much to I want to allocate of my RAM (up to 16gb) to the VM? And finally, how much should i devote to a paging/caching partition (can't remember exactly what Ubuntu called it during my first attempt at setup)? Any help is greatly appreciated, and let me know if there is some other info you need!
Thanks
I made this video to show all of you guys some cool novelty stuff.
If you're going to watch the embedded video, turn subtitles on. If not, go here.
This video shows any user, not just Cyanpeople how to run Windows 95 on your phone.
Also, please comment for any concerns or other things.
Unfortunately, there is a lack of commentation on a lot of my "development" threads (boot animation creation and such) that I am slightly discouraged in doing these things. So, please, comment or thanks! or both.
So here's the second video I promised. It shows a basic installation of a program and hardware acceleration settings. In Limbo, you mount an .iso to the CD drive. I recommend using Ubuntu to compress the .exe that you need into that .iso file, it's fast and easy. It's how I installed Daggerfall
If you want the original on YouTube, go here.
Bump, still no comments. I kinda was hoping to get some feedback, but alas, just like at my workplace, I am taken advantage of.
I don't find it useful to me but nice to see this. Great job and hope you find other things to develope. Thanks for your hard work.
Cheers

If you need any help with computers (hardware-wise) I can help. It's what I went to college for.
Nice thread. This is a QEMU emulator. I had tested this before in my old Note N7000 and was.. well.. a gimmick. A QEMU emulator is capable to run an emulated x86 architecture over an ARM device, there's no proper driver for video, hardware aceleration, camera, sound (some emulators have this working but pretty buggy), sensors, etc. It just loads a barebones Windows with almost all capabilities disabled. Just forget to run Microsoft Office on it or navigate via web or play DOOM on it. Yes, you can run even Windows 7 on it (I've seen a jailbroken iPad with this working).
Anyway, is good to see that people like you expands what QEMU emulator is, as just a few knows what this emulator can do.

Actually, Daggerfall runs smoothly now and the sound works I installed Abiword, too. Runs fine.
Bump, thanks everybody for their support! I will be uploading more videos soon, it will be in an edit so stay tuned and/or subscribe!
Alright, that second video is up in the first post like I said it would. enjoy!
