TC1100 - Wm6 - General Topics

Hi.
i have a old TC1100 tablet and i was wondering if there is a way of installing WM6 (or something like it) onto it? it has a 1 ghz processor and works well with XP but it is still slow. i have been wondering if WM would net be much faster.

You would be better off install linux of some sort. I have the same tablet and currently have linux mint installed. I am actually looking at installing ubuntu mid and/or android instead.
this site has a good walk through on getting devices set up after you have linux installed http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Tc1100

thanks. i will have a look at it.

Ventrillo (Vent) for HD2

Hi folks,
Well, i've done some searching, and as of yet have failed to locate anything that would work for this. I'm just wondering, is there any way to get Vent on my HD2?
You see, ended up with a little condensation in the comp and it fried what ever is used to control audio to my headset. Id like to use Vent on my phone so I don't bother my wife on my occasional gaming sessions.
Anyone point me in the right direction?
Not going to happen. There was a person that was working on a version but it was a long time ago and it was also only use able with a really old version of Vent. I tried it and it was buggy. The name of it was Centrillo.
The only other option you might be able to look into is booting a linux or Win95 build on the phone and going that route.
Yeah, tried Centrillo but that was a bust.
It looks like our only hope so far is to use one of various Android ports and then try out Mangler or Mumble or something like that.
I have not been able to try this as I have had a strange audio issue on pretty much every Android port i've tried thus far.
I don't suppose anyone that has access to a vent server, an HD2 with working audio on an Android port can try out Mangler and see how that works?
Does Mangler work with Ventrillo or something? You do know you can get ventrillo for free right? the only problem with the free version is you can only have something like 8 people on at once instead of the 32+ for the paid version.
version 3.0.5 is avalable for 95 if you where to boot it onto hd2 also it looks like a linux version is coming out....
http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Client programs
Windows i386 - 32bit - Win2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, Windows 7 (Version 3.0.5)
Windows x64 - 64bit (Version 3.0.5)
Windows 9x - 95/98/ME (Version 3.0.5)
Mac OSX 10.4 or higher - 32bit (Version 3.0.7)
Linux - In development
if anyone else has any ideas or info let me no im interested on how far this can be devolped

EDIT: oh i found this lol posted in 2005, scrap the linux idea? http://forum.ventrilo.com/showthread.php?t=7071

Well I was able to load Mangler onto my Android build. The only issue with trying it right now is to change over the server I use to a newer version above 3.x because Mangler only works with the newer builds.

[Q] Alternate OS?

hey guys
Has anybody tried putting a full OS on this device? like windows or ubuntu? is anybody willing to try? I would like to know if I get one of these if I can but ubuntu with its new unity ui on there.
I believe they need access to the kernel source code before something like this can be attempted.
I heard that is going to be released isn't it?
Thats what the word is! I'm very excited.
I'm like to be able to add some Linux utilities and functionality to the load. File check and the ability to use other file systems.
Windows is a no go. Tegra2 is an arm processor and Windows needs x86, thats why Moorestown is so interesting. In the meantime your best option is an Atom which has terrible battery life in comparison.
Ubuntu and maybe Phone7 are possible since they both have arm native versions.

[Q] Win XP on Transformer prime

Hi
I've seen a few threads about running win 95 and even win 98 on certain android devices.
What l was wondering was is it possible to run win xp on a high powered device such as the transformer prime?
I've heard that some people have done it on HTC Evo, but haven't heard or sen any transformer / tegra based tablets doing the same thing...
Now I'm no programmer / coder of any sorts so my understanding in this field is somewhat basic.
In short l was wondering has anyone attempted / succeeded?
I truly apologise if there is a thread about this somewhere already. I've been browsing the web, but not much luck in finding user friendly info.
don't hate me for beeing a noob...
Kind regards
DeboX
There are different facets to this:
1) Native (installing beside/over android) - this isn't possible as Windows XP or Vista or 7 have not been released for the ARM architecture (which is what most android devices, including tegra are). However, windows has said that they are releasing Windows 8 for ARM, so it might be possible to install that natively on the Transformer.
2) Virtualized - this could be possible, you'd just need something like Virtualbox, but for android that would allow you to create/host virtual machines. I currently don't know of anything that will allow you to do this with XP, and the ones that let you run 95/98 are painfully slow, even on the transformer / prime
3) splashtop - this might be your best bet, get Virtualbox on one of your desktop/laptops and install XP on that, then install Splashtop on the virtual machine. You can then either use ASUS MyCloud of Splashtop Remote HD to access it, and it will even reroute audio from the VM to the tablet. This is what i do for Win 7
hope this helps
Well, l have seen a few projects using boch and QEMU to setup a vm centred around win 98 and heard of one that is trying to setup xp, but performance is a question.
The splashtop idea is good, but it requires internet access , which is an issue....

Yeah, forgot to mention that
Splashtop is what i use though... I use it to watch blurays on my TF101, works like a charm, even from the other side of the world though
Evo 3D owners most likely lucked out in terms of the proprietary graphics tech behind the screen matching up with the XP spec. Windows bears no direct relation to Android or Linux, as such there's more that needs to be rendered independent of the CPU. XORG, the main window rendering component of most linux UIs, is able to piggyback off the usual Terminal Emulator in Android. While the Evo 3D/Milestone 2 Global Windows exploit is pretty great in the eyes of this DOS nerd, it's not the only way. I routinely run Backtrack5 (Ubuntu based :angel and I've made some progress getting WINE terminal up and running therein, so EXEs and MSIs shouldn't be far behind.

[Q] Windows via QEmu

Hi,
I know there are like 60billon topics about Windows RT running on the TF101 but this is different. (I think)
I was experimenting with QEmu on my Nexus 5 the other day and it run Windows 95 lightning fast, so it got me thinking: would it be (theoretically) possible to emulate Windows XP Tablet Edition/Windows 8 (not RT)/Ubuntu x86/any other x86 OS "almost navitely" on our TF101s? ie Android (or a super-stripped down version) starts up but straight after the boot screen it starts libSDL and emulates the OS of the users choice - or would the TF101 be just too slow (and would need a lot of overclocking) to run a x86 OS?
Just an idea - if anyone has anything to say; like if it's not possible/very slow or if anyone has any idea how - reply!

[Q] re:custom os on x86 android tablet?

I have searched lots on the subject of getting a full linux distro running on an android device most of which were really not really what I am looking for, almost everything I find on the subject seems to be some kind of hybrid solution where running linux side by side or on top of android but imo that just seems messy and may as well just be using andorid with it's apps than do that.
I ran into interesting information about modding chromebooks some of when were the similar side-by-side solution but others actually more what I was looking for, they enable legacy seabios while not enough to get windows installed seems to work fine to boot into linux and another guy had baked his own custom seabios replacing the chrome bios entirely.
my question, the atom tablets Im seeing pop up a few places are standard x86 right ? is it possible to either
1/run a modded sea bios similar to chromebook mods? then boot a stock ubuntu distro installation maybe from external storage?
2/or somehow have the existing/modded bootloader boot linux kernel/ubuntu install ?
can't help think if it were that simple maybe someone would have done it already but also thinking the hardware (drivers) are supported by android so they should be supported by linux right ? and if it is standard x86 can't be too much a stretch right ?
I don't own an atom tablet but was thinking it may be desirable (and add more use) if I could get a full linux distro installed and be a lot more affordable than full fledged windows based tablet.
anyway thanks
ps:that captcha is harcore
They are kinda standard. But they are not following PC architecture. They are so called Intel MID (Mobile Internet Device). On such devices you may find neither EFI nor ACPI. They have so called SFI which is a complete disaster. But Intel Merrifield is more or less supported by upstream kernel and Yocto (thanks to Intel Edison platform). You may try to gather information about those devices (official name of SoC is Intel Atom Z34xx).
