Is there a way to do this in the registry or so?
Making the message-area bigger in the threaded sms-messaging that is.. because I feel that only three rows is way to little when typing.. tried to raise the bar but it seems hard stuck..
Um? this is limited by your screen size
you can always change the font size to see more...
unless i misunderstood your intention
I think he means that he wants to make the area at the bottom bigger, the area where you type in the message.
afaik you can resize the textbox by editing the "thread_sms.htm" in \Windows\ there is a "height=50" when you change it to 60 you get a bigger textbox
hope that helps

Use Total Commander and search for "thread_sms" and the file will come up. Choose the edit option, and edit away!
very useful... someone's already asked me that before.. i think i'll add it to the guides thread.
sorry, forgot to subscribe to the thread :/ but hope you figured it out
Thank you everyone, I searched and edited the html-file with resco/word at first but it couldn't save the file cuz it said it was used.. then i searched/edited it with total commander and it worked like a charm after a soft reset! Default height was height="35", changed it to 80 = perfect
Cheers

I found the typing area (the space below the message body) becoming too small after exchanging a few messages. Wonder if there are ways to enlarge the typing space to allow seeing 3-4 lines (now I can only see 2 lines). Thanks.
This seems to be a problem only when using the threaded SMS feature. I you turn that off, you get the full screen. The other problem with the threaded SMS feature is that it take away the character count which also drives me a bit crazy. Anyone know how to fix either of these two issues while retaining the threading feature?

It doesn't take away character count. It's right there on the top bar, next to the start button...
Drop this in /windows and overwrite. Might need total commander. I cant find the post but basically you edit the thread_sms html file in windows, i have this one saved in both my wife and my phones pre-edited.
note: you need to have show hidden filed turned on to see it on your pc.
you can use the freeware "TOTAL COMMANDER" and edit the file thread_sms.html. You can do a search to easily find it...i think it's in the windows directory.
look for this part:
<inbox:content id="COMPOSESUBECT" width="98%" height=35 spell...
and play around with the number in height (in this case 35). I think I tried 70 and got 3 lines for my text replies. Just change the numbers and see what works for you.
*you need to soft reset after editing the file.
Thanks, venelar & koppee1 for your help! It works.

Hey thanks a lot. I had been looking for it at the bottom of the screen where it appears when a new message is created. You have solved a big issue for me! I can kind of live with the small typing area but the word count thing drove me crazy -- I am a wordy guy.
i have installed wisbar advanced with the original theme. After that i havent the character count which has been in top. Is there any way how to get the character count back in threaded sms, or how to get it to the postion where is in the normal SMS sending... anyone hlep?
Hi, I installed the above thread_sms.html file from venelar (copied using resco explorer and soft reset) but now my threaded sms is broken, if I select a thread and click reply then nothing happens other than a slight screen 'flash'! Have disabled threaded sms in advance config and ordinary messaging is fine. Would like to get threaded back but like an idiot did not make a copy of the original file. Don't really want to hard reset and start all my settings again. Can anybody upload an original touch pro thread_sms.html file to help me out or suggest what I have done wrong?

it worked 4 me without the soft reset!
THNX much better now! now I can actually see what I typed...
After some experimentation:
Height of 35 = One-line SMS typing area
Height of 45 = Two-line SMS typing area
Height of 70 = Three-line SMS typing area
P.S. As per Pensador, a soft-reset was not required.
Doesn't work in Landscape SMS Mode

Changing this seems to only increase the SMS text area for the screen in Portrait. When I use the keyboard (i.e. screen in Landscape). Anyone know how to increase the SMS texting area for both orientations?

This is an awesome fix. This should be placed in the wiki.
Also, you don't need a soft reset and it works for both portrait and landscape.
as written by Title, is possible to increase the scrolling speed of the star menu?
I don't know if is possible to set a parameter with one system editor..i would like to have a scrolling as,for example,in the program "S2U2",and precisely when you chose in this program your wallpaper because is too much fast of the normal velocity of the htc star menĂ¹
I hope I don't ask too much.
thanks in advance!

I love this forum!
I hope someone can help me, I think is not difficult for all of you.

ok, i see you are talking about the start screen and i guess you do not know that scrolling here is programmed to stop after each screen.
for each swipe the screen is scrolling and it stops when full, next swipe another one screen down and so on...
the scrolling is not continuous like in the all programs or contacts but it is screen by screen. this gave you the impression that is slow.
this is done so u are not going to "over shoot" / over scroll and then have to scroll back.
i know i might be not clear enough but this the best i can do.
i do not think u can improve it.
is the START MENU'
excuse me to all.
I forget the "T" letter.

ah-start menu. I read star,then s2u2,then wallpaper...so I was confused.
Did you tried this:

This start menu make my crazy too .
For me this is absolutly stupid way to scroll page by page.
The idea of this kinetic scroll (if I not wrong with the name) is the scroll distance to depend of the finger slide speed.
If somebody have solution, I will be grateful too!
You need to flash either a WM6.5.X ROM (builds 28xxx and 23xxx) or a ROM based on Windows Mobile build 23016.
OR you try this: Copy the physicsengine.dll file from the attached .zip to your Windows directory and overwrite the old one. Then restart the device.
You need a file manager like Total Commander or Resco Explorer for this, the built in File Explorer is not able to overwrite system files.
However, this could do all sorts of damage to your system, maybe it won't boot anymore or something else. Try it at your own risk

Yes, but I cannot guarantee that it will work, and you should maybe back up your system before you do this.
After installing and un-installing an hebrew support package (known as "the_dude"), the names and descriptions of the devices in the Comm Manager screen are no longer intelligible - see attached image (sorry, couldn't display it within the post, newbie restrictions).
Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks!
hard reset you phone, you have removed the system fonts (or screwed the reg settings for them)
either way fastedt thing is a hard reset, bt you lose everything, sms contacts etc

also that screenshot shows that you have deleted a system font, thats why all the squares.
(I posted a reply because i know the answer, not for a laugh - i felt sorry for you as a new user, otherwise i wouldnt even have bothered posting what i did!!)
as you are all knowing and you doubt me, enjoy fixing your error.
I mean what the hell do i know, im only the guy who mapped out the WM6.5 and WM6.5.x font systems so i REALLY doubt id know!!

All i'm saying is that it's logical to assume that all the captions in the Comm Manager screen use the same font. So, if some of the captions (e.g. "ActiveSync") are still readable, it means that the font probably hasn't been removed.
Wouldn't you agree?

nope! there are about 20 different font used by the system, some named different but the same font.
so if you remove a particular font you can break for eg the keyboard font, but not he menu font, ehrn thought they are the same.
also you have things like fontname.ttf, fontname_bold.ttf, fontname_italic.ttf etc, you can remove fontname.ttf, but the other 2 will still work.
i think this is what happened to you, the comm mge txt is the same, except one is bold, what ever you installed has removed one of these fonts.
just hard-reset, it is 5 mins!

When have M$ done anything logically? it would be logical to hae 4 fonts, all the same but bold italic normal and thin, and thats it. why the hell have as many as they do? stupid if you ask me!

Thanks, that clears it.
I'll probably go for a hard reset, but i wouldn't want to lose all the content, so perhaps you may suggest the name of the missing font?

I just tried to modify my softkeybar by changing some colours around, saved the file as a .png with the same dimensions and such like, copied it back to the device and when I restarted the softkey bar was all kind of fragmented and multicolured.
Could anyone tell me what I've done wrong......

Without knowing exactly what you did, it is hard to know what you may have done wrong.
If you use a copy of the original as a template, then you should be good to go as all the parameters will still be present.
If at first you don't succeed... cheat.
Thats exactly what I did.
Opened up the file i got from here....
changed one colour........
saved the file.........
Il post the files here in case that helps.
The one with the green is the original I got from XDA, I just changed it to blue but it didnt work for some reason.
Weird, which image editor are you using?
I did the same using Photoshop CS4, using the exact same bar as you and here it is below. Try it on your phone to see if it is your image that is messed up or whether your phone just isn't displaying it correctly.
I've just realised what you have done. Your image is resized... if you open it up to view it, it is tiny. That's why it is pixelated as it is being stretched to display in your phone.
Try again and make sure you keep the correct image size
Ahhhh, I told you it was something stupid but I didnt think it was that stupid....
Thanks man much appreciated.
Original are H E R E in post #2
Thx 4 using
Thanks matt, couldnt remember which thread I'd got them from.
Must be the ****ty software Im using because the dimensions are ok and its still happening.
Solved: Works Ok using good old fashioned MS Paint, I think bit depth was the problem...

He's not asking for 4 row hexagon, he wants the icons all aligned in a standard x,y axis grid. Basically, no, this cannot be done. You can alter the size of the icons/text, and the number of columns, but not the 'hexagon' effect, except;
There is one setup that lists all of your start menu icons in a single vertical list, similar to how your contacts are listed. I don't have a link to that .cab, but if you have a quick search on here and/or google I'm sure you'll find it.
That list view is called AwesomeStart. Because it's, y'know, awesome.
Edit: Here, turns out I still had it in the Cabs folder on my SD card.
