Okay guys. here's the official thread. this will be for diagnostic purposes ONLY.
do not go off topic in this thread. no questions are to be asked, only data.
first question: what radio, and SPL were you using prior to getting bricked?
EDIT: please flash latest radio (http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream) before flashing SPL.. this may be causing bricks.
EDIT2: http://www.droiddeveloper.com/hrbuilds/spl-radio-signed.zip
new spl + radio combo. no more bricks i hope!
just got bricked trying to update to SPL 1.33.2005. was using old radio with rainbow boot loader and hard spl.
How to flash new spl and avoid brick
EDIT: I am 99.9% sure this will work with a PVT board. I am not sure about DVT BUT if you are willing to risk bricking your G1 to find out, that would be great Reboot in fastboot and make sure it says "DREA100 PVT"
EDIT: please flash latest radio (http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream) before flashing SPL..

EDIT: It has been confirmed that you WILL brick your phone if you attempt to downgrade your radio after flashing the new SPL. So.. don't.
Everyone is scared because they want the new spl but do not want a brick. Well this should help you all out. (should). First you should know I do not recommend trying this if you do not have a PVT board. I also will not take any responsibility for any bricked devices, though I believe this should work well.
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:
You must have 2 microSD cards
OR
You must have one microSD card and a microSD card adapter and microSD card reader
AND
Two files: The new SPL file
http://sapphire-port-dream.googlecode.com/files/spl-signed.zip
And the update file of the build you are currently using.
IF YOU HAVE TWO MICRO SD CARDS:
1. Download the SPL
2. Upload the new SPL on one microSD card and name it "update.zip" and upload the update file of the build that you are currently using on the other microSD card and name it "update.zip"
3. Put the microSD with the SPL update in your phone and reboot to recovery mode.
4. THIS IS IMPORTANT (perform a nandroid backup, of course) Apply the update, and once complete DON'T DO ANYTHING.. read step 5.
5. WITHOUT PRESSING ANY BUTTONS remove your microSD card from your phone and place the other microSD card in it.
6. Press Alt + x to go to the console. If your phone does not reboot automatically, type reboot recovery, then press enter.
7. If you boot up in recovery, you have done everything correctly. Now apply the update, reboot, and you're done.
IF YOU HAVE ONE SD CARD:
1. Upload new SPL on your microSD and rename to "update.zip"
2. Reboot your phone into recovery mode.
3. THIS IS IMPORTANT (perform a nandroid backup, of course) Apply the update, and once complete DON'T DO ANYTHING.. read step 4.
4. WITHOUT PRESSING ANY BUTTONS remove your microSD card from your phone, and plug it into your microSD card adapter/SD card reader
5. Remove/rename the SPL update (to something other than "update.zip") and upload the update file of the build you are currently using onto your microSD card. Put your microSD card back in your phone AGAIN WITHOUT PUSHING ANY BUTTONS
6. Press Alt + x to go to the console. If your phone does not reboot automatically, press enter, type "reboot recovery", then press enter again.
7. If you boot up in recovery, you have done everything correctly. Now apply the update, reboot, and you're done.
Radio: 2.22.19.26I
was using dude's latest firmware if that matters
Android board: PVT (I have USA retail black phone from the presale)
current SPL before flashing to H's SPL: Hard SPL
here is the process i used for the new H SPL and H 6.0 firmwares i did tonight.
wiped
loaded new H SPL (1.33.2005)
wiped
loaded new H 6.0
booted new H 6.0
lots of loops
reloaded new H 6.0
more loops
hit home key while it was booting and it went into safe mode
configured the phone, powered off, turned on, booted and no more loops.
working now
one out of three bricked
the one that bricked
version PVT
spl: hardspl
Radio: not changed from ota that came with rc33
*** no recovery upgrade from the one flashed during rooting...

I'm set up exactly the same way.
just update to your rom haykuro mines worked fine n downloaded the new spl but not the radio and my phone works good
i did the same for my friend n he stuck on the g1 screen
i follow these steps for both phones
Code:
WOW THIS IS AWESOME!!
my phone has more memory and seems faster!!!
WARNING THE NEW SPL IN SOME CASES CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE USE WITH EXTREME CAUTION!!!
Ill give all of you guys directions
Download the SPL
rename to update.zip
then Home+End
Alt+S
let it do its thing
Wait till you reboot the second time from the recovery screen to reboot.
then it will reboot and hang!!
NOW
Take your battery out and SD card out
get an sd card reader and put your Jesusfreke 1.5 or whatever back on your sdcard
rename to update.zip
Put the battery back in and
Home+END
Alt+S
then it will all be dandy!
still stuck for 1 phone only i dont know how when i did the same steps for both phones but only 1 got stuck
any ideas?
So was old radio the common denominator amongst most (PVT) bricks?
Yes! It seems that the radio from RC33 is very critical to brick G1. I bricked the phone when I downgraded the radio to RC33.
The phone I bricked was indeed using the old radio.
I had the RC33 radio and HardSPL on the phone that I bricked, the successful one was with the newest radio and the older Sapphire ROM.

This is very important! And never try to install old radio on G1 with new SPL.
i had the new spl working good, mine didnt brick till i DOWNGRADED the radio from 26I to rc33 radioc today .... anyways... hope it helps
(stands by and prays for a fix ;p)

The old radio is most likely the cause for several bricks. If you update the radio and follow the tutorial, success is pretty much guaranteed.
seems pretty much confirmed. upgrade your radio, and you won't get bricked.
EDIT: i'm going to mesh the SPL and radio updates together.
hey are u just fixing the spl or are you trying to fix the bricks?
but i had the lastest radio and my phone still got bricked
probably a good idea lol. I had pvt but i believe i had the old radio (i went from one of your older saphire roms to jesus freaks 1.5 and radio update on his updater and then back to your newest saphire port yesterday when i got bored of jsfs stuff and non working keyboard.
i wiped before trying to apply the new spl so that shouldnt be what it is
Matt....
Everyone is scared because they want the new spl but do not want a brick. YOU ARE NOT KIDDING I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE
JUST A COUPLE QUESTIONS HERE TO BE CLEAR!
I only have one sd card and a card reader so i am only asking about this part....
IF YOU HAVE ONE SD CARD:
1. Upload new SPL on your microSD and rename to "update.zip" OK UNDERSTAND HOW TO DO THIS...
2. Reboot your phone into recovery mode. I ASSUME YOU MEAN HOLDING POWER AND HOME BUTTONS>>>RIGHT?
3. THIS IS IMPORTANT (perform a nandroid backup, of course) Apply the update, and once complete DON'T DO ANYTHING.. read step 4. APPLY THE UPDATE USING ALT-S... RIGHT? AND WE KNOW IT IS COMPLETE WHEN?
4. WITHOUT PRESSING ANY BUTTONS remove your microSD card from your phone, and plug it into your microSD card adapter/SD card reader
5. Remove/rename the SPL update (to something other than "update.zip") and upload the update file of the build you are currently using onto your microSD card. Put your microSD card back in your phone AGAIN WITHOUT PUSHING ANY BUTTONS I KNOW THIS IS STUPID, BUT WE RENAME THE BUILD TO UPDATE.ZIP AS WELL....RIGHT?
6. Press Alt + x to go to the console. If your phone does not reboot automatically, press enter, type "reboot recovery", then press enter again.
7. If you boot up in recovery, you have done everything correctly. Now apply the update, reboot, and you're done. APPLY THE UPDATE USING ALT-S... RIGHT
I understand what I am doing as I have flashed 100 of times not only mine but all of my friends as well...just that this one has me scared, so just trying not to leave anything out is all... it's too late for me to try this now as I am going to attempt this in the morning when I am well rested...
This is my phone info:
DREA100 PVT 32b

hi there
this was my g1's stats
Drea110 pvt 32b
Hspl10.95.3000

Radio-1.22.12.29
Oct 20 2008
and then iv successfully updated the radio to

Hspl10.95.3000
Cpld-4
Radio-1.22.12.29 --> radio-2.22.19.261
Oct 20 2008
then i deleted the update file of radio from my microsd and then added the spl files into the microsd and renamed it to update
then turning on the phone with home+power and then alt+S, the yellow bar loaded half way and then restarted the phone and started looping
please help if anyone could, please, its urgent
it should not have caused you any problems. Try wiping your phone.
do u mind telling in which part i need to do a wipe?
before updating spl or do i need to do a wipe before updating the radio?
you don't need to wipe with either one
You can flash the radio and the SPL without wiping, you just have to reflash your ROM of choice AFTER the SPL. The SPL will flash and then reboot similar to flashing a radio, and then will hang. Then you insert an SD card with an update.zip of your ROM of choice (from the same family if you plan to do this stuff without wiping), reboot in recovery mode and flash the update. This has been covered MANY, MANY times in the threads dedicated to the new SPL.
after NOT updating the spl, i had no other choices but toput the latest htc rom into the microsd card and renamed it to update.zip and plug it back into the phone and started the home+power function and did a wipe (it reboots after i did the wipe) and then clicked alt+s and the it started updating
and at the end, it restarted and took a long time at the G1 logo...finally it went into HTC!!!
i think it was really a fluke....but to be honest, i think iv skipped the updating spl thingy...im wondering if there would be any problems or not....
if haykuro sees my post, i hope that he could give me some suggestions or opinion about this incident...
thanks in advance
o yeah, and thanks to the person who replied my post too
thanks alot

If you loaded the latest HTC build (6.0r1) successfully, then you were successful with the SPL also. You can't load 6.0 without first loading that SPL or else your system partition simply won't be large enough for the ROM (at least that's my understanding). And yes, when I loaded Haykuro's 6.0 ROM (without wiping by the way), it took a very SCARY long time to boot up the first time, on both the splash screen and the HTC screen.
or maybe it did update and you havent checked to see????
that would be the first thing id try.... go back to bootloader and see if you have the version info for the new SPL or if its still the same as your old SPL... but honestly if you have haykuro 6.0 on your phone then it worked... or your phone would be slow as mud (if you somehow installed it without the SPL but im pretty sure it checks) since youd have like 20mb free on a fresh flash

Does that match what it said it shuld in the thread you got it from?
I think you answered your own question.
yes, you could have compared that info to the info in the first post of the thread about this SPL, maaaaaybe since they match you flashed succesfully.... but just a thought...
SPL's arent large at all and take no time to flash.... buuuuuut its just about the only way you'll pseudo brick (not technically bricked just unfixable ATM) your phone

yha, and its a fuss to try to read ANY THING? come on, this has been re hashed over and over and over in almost every thread on the first page.
Heres the info:
Phone: myTouch
Sapphire PvT 32B
HBOOT-1.33.2005
CPLD-10
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Recovery: RAv1.2.0H
When I first rooted my phone I used this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4314039
I had RA1.0.1H until I wanted to change to CM4.0.2. Upon trying to flash it I got stuck on the Vodafone splash on reboot. I was able to redo everything and now I just have the sappimg ROM on there as I am still trying to get CM loaded.
I tried putting a new SPL on there by using this thread: http://androidforums.com/updates-cupcakes/5662-flashing-new-spl.html . I saw that someone here had the same SPL that I was trying to load and had 4.0.2 on their myTouch and figured it may work. After updating with the new SPL and then updating with CM4.0.2 I still get stuck on the Vodafone splash. Can anyone give me some pointers to what I need to use to get it to work?
FIXED
Well I fixed my own problem after all. I did some more research (or just finding out info I hadnt already known) into my phone and realized that the "Daredevil" part of Amon_RA's rooting tutorial gave me all the info that I needed to install CM4.0.2. I went through the instructions he gave there and now my phone is on the android boot splash (as I was told it takes a few minutes to boot), which is way farther than I've ever gotten with it before.
Maybe Amon_RA should change that to "To Install other ROMs including CyanogenMod" lol.
Booted! I guess Cyanogen will be getting his beers afterall!
NOTE: THIS MIGHT NOT WORK IF YOU INSTALLED THE HTC RUU USING A GOLD CARD IN THE FIRST PLACE... I'M LOOKING FOR TESTERS TO CONFIRM THIS.
I tried this when I first ended up with 1.76.0007, and it worked, but I didn't want to take a chance trying it again. I thought it was just a coincidence or my eyes were playing tricks on me. I was scared that I would brick my phone...
I finally got the guts to try it again and it worked!
Here's how...
You'll need:
- HTC 2.53.707.2 Test Build SAPPIMG.zip (Thanks Amon_RA!!)
http://rapidshare.com/files/267446145/2.53.707.2_-_sappimg.zip
- 1.76.2007 'Engineering' SPL
http://rapidshare.com/files/313034025/update-hboot-1.76.2007-signed.zip
- 6.35.07.29 32A Radio Image
http://rapidshare.com/files/313035429/radio-6.35.07.29-32A.zip
- Amon_RA Hero Recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124
- Gold Card
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683
Caveats!!!
- Your splash screen will be changed to the HTC MAGIC screen and not your wireless provider's screen. I know of no way to change this.
- This might brick your phone... I was sweating bullets when I was running this on my phone because I wasn't sure it would work, and I'm still not 100% sure this will work for everyone. YMMV
Steps:
- Create your Gold Card! This is not just a suggestion. You need a proper gold card before starting. I used the card that came with my phone and it worked fine.
- Back up whatever you can from your existing setup. You can't go back and can't recovery anything here. Google sync should backup most of your stuff though.
- Shut off your phone and put the 2.53.707.2-sappimg.zip file on your gold card. Make sure it's named 'sappimg.zip'. Put the gold card in your phone.
- Turn on your phone using VolDown and Power. It will boot into HBOOT mode and within 10 seconds will scan your SD card. Do not press anything at this point! It will find SAPPIMG.zip only if it is named SAPPIMG.zip and not SAPPIMG.zip.zip... Get it? As it's loading SAPPIMG.zip it will show a blue progress bar on the right hand side of the screen.
- It will then check that SAPPIMG.zip is not corrupt.
- When prompted 'Do you want to start update?', press in on the trackwheel (Action key).
- The process will update the SYSTEM, USERDATA, BOOT, BOOTLOADER (SPL), RADIO_V2, RECOVERY and SPLASH.
At this point, you now have 3.22.20.17 32A Radio image and 1.33.2010 Engineering SPL. You can now flash any 32A Recovery and ROM and carry on like nothing happened and you didn't make a big mistake by flashing the HTC RUU. Next time don't be so impatient!
If you decide to stick with this Radio and SPL then I suggest flashing the Amon_RA 32A Recovery and picking a 32A ROM to run.
If you want to flash new HTC 3.03 ROMs using the 1.76.2007 Eng SPL and the new radio, then continue on. There are advantages to this, but at this point it's not for rookies.
Steps
- Download the recovery image, radio image and SPL (hboot) update into a folder of their own.
- Put the update-hboot-1.76.2007-signed.zip onto your SD card.
- Open a command prompt, navigate to the folder you saved all of the files in. This assumes that your Android SDK Tools folder is in your PATH environment variable)
- Boot your phone it fastboot by holding Back and Power.
- Once in FASTBOOT USB, type in these commands, hitting enter after each one.
Code:
fastboot flash radio radio.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-hero-v1.3.2.img
- Once it's finished, turn off your phone by pressing MENU.
- Start up your phone into recovery mode by holding Home and pressing Power.
- Apply the update-hboot-1.76.2007-signed.zip update.
- NOTE THAT THE RECOVERY REQUIRES YOU TO PRESS THE HOME KEY TO SELECT AN OPTION.
- Reboot your phone using the recovery option. Your phone will reboot back into recovery, and will format the CACHE. Don't worry about this, it's supposed to happen. If it doesn't boot back into recovery after a few minutes, pull the battery and power it on while holding the HOME key.
- Once it's booted into recovery mode, shut off your phone by pulling the battery.
- Start it back up into FASTBOOT mode by holding Back and pressing Power.
- You should now see the following on the screen:
Code:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.76.2007
CPLD-12
RADIO-6.35.07.29
Aug 21 2009,18:19:15
If your phone doesn't display exactly this information, then you might have made a mistake along the way and should consider yourself lucky that your phone boots at all. Try again from the beginning.
At this point, you can enter the recovery menu and run the CursorSense update.zip from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592856
This was probably the closest I came to bricking my phone, but I'm sure it works now.
Good luck and happy rooting!
That won't work because if you Flashed via RUU it'll say that your version is older.
If you only flashed SPL/radio and not rest of the ROM i guess it could work.
it can break the Perfected SPL?
When i was flashed the sense-ui by htc?

Quite tempting to try, as I did flash via the RUU. Will look into it.

I've tried it, didn't work, but again who knows it might work for someone. There was a guy who said he got s-off SPL from a regular RUU so you never know.

Main Version is older
I tried it on HBOOT-1.76.0007 (SAPP10000)
Hong Kong Sense Update from 17/11/09
Same problem NOTHING NEW:
Main Version is older
main version is older, flashed with RUU
i know 2.53.707 sappimg.zip file saved a few people, they also flashed official ruu, but get spl info like this: 1.76.0007(SAPP*****), and s-off.
but for most of us, we get this: 1.76.0007(SAPP10000), and s-on. therefore, we trying to use 2.53.707 sappimg.zip file and get "main version is older, update failed". and, if we use fastboot, it says "remote: not allow".
the only difference is the SAPP model text following 1.76.0007. if it's *****(all "*" symbols, not means any key), security is off, no version check, and it work! if it's 10000(maybe 50000 is also the same but i'm not sure), we stucked at version check.
so, what can we do...

yes, i also found some person get this: spl info like this: 1.76.0007(SAPP*****), and s-off, if in this state, they can flash any rom/spl/radio.
can anybody find how to go to this state? if we can, we can do anything.
I dont know any thing further other than I got 0007 and s-on
so, all I can do is bump...
I have SAP***** for some time, even before i flashed 1.76 SPL but it's s-on, so i think it's not directly related.
P.S. I think i got SAP**** by playing around with different radios and all i can say is *don't* change (especially downgrade) radio unless you're sure what you're doing and/or have a matching SPL.
still no luck searching for a root cure for 1.76.0007
I accidentaly posted this to another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5196720&postcount=7) although it was meant to be posted here:
I was missing the Android Market wich didnt come with the Singapore RUU so just downloaded the the HK RUU, ran it with a gold card (dont know if thats really neccesary) and got Market.
The point being - if people are on the Singapore official update, would it be somehow possible to "patch" the HK RUU files from the temporary folders where it stores the files for the update? To say, replace the original HBOOT with an ENG HBOOT (possibly *.2007?)?
Since Singapore rom version is lower than the HK one..:
Singapore: ROM Version: 3.03.728.4(For Indonesia, Malaysia& Vietnam only)
HK-E: ROM Version: 3.03.990.6
..possibly it would skip the "wrong main version" or whatever it says during the update..?
Am I onto something here?
No because the (zip) files are signed and perfect SPL won't accept flashing them if they are modified.
so is there a newer spl yet?

nobody, help we. amon_ra, and all the developers.. because don't help us??? we need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We need either kernel exploit to get root, or HTC signed RUU with 3.x ROM and s-off SPL. period.
Okay my phones info is as follows:
UK Vodafone running Donut 1.6
Code:
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0007 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.261
Jul 31 2009, 15:49:25
Now is this or is this not a perfected SPL "1.33.0007" as I cant do jack with it nor can I get any computer to recognize it when it's in fastboot connected to a PC...*sigh* (although it will when it's turned on)
Now assuming the above is correct and it is a perfected spl will the below work:
Step 1
Flash the phone with the 32A ROM v2.53.707.2 (Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010) this being a higher rom version than my own from Amon_RA's thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218)
Step 2
Change the radio (any recommendations?) back to that of a 32B HTC Magic device and install CyanogenMod using the info again from a different Amon_RA thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4314039&postcount=1)
Step 3
Sit back and bathe in the glory of my finally rooted HTC Magic?
Thanks in advance for any and all help even if it's just a quick reply to tell me I'm off my trolley and it's a sure fire way to brick my phone
Has anyone managed to get anywhere with this hardware. I have exactly the same version of hardware and have not been able to get it to connect to the pc in fastboot.
I would imagine that a lot of people are in the same position, with the same hardware so could someone point us in the right direction please.

Yes, 1.33.0007 is a perfected SPL, but nevertheless you should get fastboot to recognize your phone. Did you properly install the Android SDK USB drivers?

I had the same perfected SPL on my 32B but (luckily) with Android 1.5 CRC24.
I think it should work if you flash a "official" vodafone 1.5 CRC24 1.33.0007 image, then install flashrec on Android, change the recovery Image, boot into recovery mode and flash an engineering spl. Thats basically what I did, except for the downgrade to 1.5.
AFAIK on 1.33.0007 you should be able to downgrade without a goldcard.
Same Version
Hello everybody,
i have the same phone with the same SPL, too.
My Problem is when i try to flash the sappimg.zip with the POWER on and Volume down methode, everything wents fine.
But after reading the Update File i end up with an error like:
"Main Version is older".
Don't know what to do...
Phone HTC Sapphire (Magic) 32B Ship S-ON G
SPL(hboot): 1.33.0007 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
I already tryed a Goldcard, but no luck at all
Any Ideas.
I readed 2 Threads, they got a problem with theire devices,
it also was an 32B Magic and they wanted to do an update, too.
And they ended up with the same error message, so they tryed
to flash a 32A Image, and then the 32B, and it worked.
But i am worried, don't want to brick my device.
Anybody out there, with an idea?
Greeting
ZabbensX
i got the exact same problem. waiting for answers...
If you are running Donut Rom DRC92 then at the moment you are stuck. We need to wait until a higher firmware with a non-perfected SPL is released. If you are running a Cupcake Rom (starts with a C) then you can upgrade fine. I'm in the same situation after bricking my first phone using a RUU (they are for 32As only). Luckily Vodafone replaced it under warranty but I have ended up with the perfected SPL.
After having root and now unable to get root I can't say I miss it much. It makes you think what do you need root for? One of the reasons was the ability to flash custom roms but no disrespect to all the Hero Rom developers but NONE of them run well on a 32B Magic. Cyanogens software is good but what does it do that stock firmware doesn't? Any way hopefully Eclair won't be long, a new Rom will be released and we can all change to an engineering SPL and all will be jolly again.
what's ur OS ? Can HTC sync read ur device ?
No HTC Sync doesn't recognize my phone

Thats the reason I want to use the 32A rom as it's newer then my current rom and so it *should* hopefully flash the phone including the spl and then I can change the radio back to that of a 32B device
also what do you mean about being able to change to an engineering spl in Eclair?
Also I've never been able to get HTC Sync to work ever =[ in both xp or vista, and never been able to get the drivers working properly however I am yet to try with Ubuntu

You should be able to get both fastboot and adb to recognise your phone although you won't be able to do anything. That sounds like a driver issue. If you go to the HTC website and download the latest drivers (pick the ones for the HTC branded magic) you should be ok. Try the link below.
http://www.htc.com/uk/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=267&act=sd&cat=all
As for flashing a 32a rom then changing the radio, good luck with that after already bricking one phone I haven't got the balls to try. If you do try and it works please post here exactly what you done as many people will thank you.
Lastly what I'm waiting for is a higher rom version which will probably be eclair (Android 2.0) which comes with a non-perfected SPL. Then the devs on here can get the relentless rooter to work on our phones.

u cant access it unless u enable USB debugging. If u cant pass activation, then ur screwed until u activate it with 3G
hacker1 suggested this:
Okay I post this as a private message because I don't know if I can post the links to the images on an official board.
There are basically 2 methods for flashing/rooting the 1.33.0007.
Method 1:
1.Download Android 1.5 CRC24 NBH
2. rename to sappimg.nbh and copy to sdcard
3. start magic with volume down+power
4. confirm with trackball
5. If everything works ok, follow 8. on method 2
If this fails with "Main version older" then copy sappimg.nbh to a goldcard and try again. (Some brands of SD-Cards are known to be incompatible with a goldcard, so you might need to try some different ones)
If it fails to flash with a goldcard you need method 2:
1. Download Android 1.5 CRC24 NBH (if you don't have it already)
2. Download 32A Image
3. rename 2.53.707.2_-_sappimg.zip to sappimg.zip and copy to goldcard
4. start magic with volume down+power and confirm flashing with trackball
5. turn off phone
6. delete sappimg.zip from goldcard and copy the "Android 1.5 CRC24 NBH" as sappimg.nbh to sdcard
7. start magic with volume down+power and confirm flashing with trackball
8. after restarting you should now be at Android 1.5 CRC24, install flashrec.apk to phone, change recovery image, boot into recovery and flash engineering spl.
Hope this will help you.

Not yet and the fact that none of the senior members are bragging any where they can do it I think we are pretty much stuck. In fact no-one is talking about trying to hack this so I think it maybe in the too difficult bin! Time to save up and get a Nexus One
nooooooooooo

*IF* you load the 32A radio and SPL and ROM on your 32B, you may only succeed in bricking your phone.
They are different devices. You can try it if you like, but be ready to throw the phone away.

Okay my phones info is as follows:

I do not know if this helps you guys.http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/15/how-to-root-a-donut-phone-android-1-6/
All phones are diffrent I have perfect spl too and I manage to flash in fastboot.
I've found something which I think might help on a German android forum and it looks like the guy succeeded in doing something similar to what I posted originally in this thread from what I can gather from google translate
http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-hacking-modding-htc-magic/11285-flashen-mit-1-33-0007-spl.html
can anyone help me out and post a translation for me? (I mean someone who can give a translation not from a website unless it's blindingly better then google)
Current translation via google...
edit -
it should be called "flashed with SPL 1.33.0007"

Hello, nice forum you have here
I have the following problem:
Recently I wanted to flash my Vodafone Magic (Android 1.6 SPL 1.33.0007) with Cyanogenic Mod.
Since I have a "perfect" SPL, I've tried it with a gold card. Everything went well so far. Only apparently I had made a version for the 32A, then stood for in fastboot Ship S-OFF H and I could only make recovery for the HTC version of RA, rather than the Google version. I had taken here -> ROM v2.53.707.2 (SPL engineering had v1.33.2010) the rom but works as well and booted normally.
anyway I wanted to be the recovery of RA have wrote -> HTC_ADP_1.6_DRC83_rooted_base.zip CM 4.2.5 and later.
The flash itself went well, but I stayed in the HTC bootscreen Magic hang himself and it did nothing more.
In another forum I was told that what I have by gold card (power + vol down) flashed (the sappimg.zip) was just for the 32A, and it therefore did not go.
Jetz, I wanted to ask what am I then can take the 32B, then to flash it to the cyanogenic mod? Because irgednwie I'm a little confused at the 10,000 versions at XDA dev .....
I hope someone can help me there. I'm just glad that the phone because I did not have gebricked garkeine backup (duchzufall had found it here in the forum, the firmware vodafone stock and re-flashed)
thank you in advance
-edit -
ah, I'm stupid.
The stock firmware I had was re-flashed V1.5 .. have then by Flashrecovery the CMrecovery flashed and book now funzt everything.
no offense
